Yes I called off. After, I would’ve had to be outside with no shelter before the bus came, so outside maybe 10 min.
Just had some spaghetti, put the rest in the fridge.
Today seems to be Friendly People Day. Everyone I met, even passing on the sidewalk, said hello. A very polite young guy on the bus told me I had a beautiful smile and then spent ten minutes telling me his life story, which included 30 doctors out to get him, the parallelism of political parties, and Barack Obama saving the day even though he won’t get true wisdom until age 70. If you’re not sure how those things are connected, my answer would be “punctuation.” On the way back, I had a nice conversation with a sane woman who also loves dogs.
I walked 5.3 miles.
I’m so very sorry for everyone affected.
Coppertone, I hope it warmed up there! Are there no bus stop shelters there? Some stops here have them and some don’t. Was your boss understanding about why you couldn’t make it in?
Believe it or not, we have some palm trees here in western Washington state. They’re not the tall ones, though.
I wish you lived closer. I love to bake but have nobody to bake for, as all my friends either have dietary restrictions or are picky eaters. Maybe I can ESP an apple cake to you in your dreams. If e a nekkid Captain Morgan shows up in my dreams, I’ll send him your way.
I’d love a pair, but I have bunions, and shoe makers seem to think I don’t need cool footwear and should be grateful they make wide shoes at all.
Squeeee! They’re adorable!
The lease just says tenants are entitled to “quiet enjoyment” of their apartments, and that noise that impedes that is not allowed. Also, Quiet Hours are from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m…It seems excessive to me, too.
And a good late afternoon to all. Ended up going to my regular Doctor this afternoon, the area right below the incision does not have any feeling and after 5-6 days I was a little concerned about it. According to the Doc, they had to cut one of the nerves that run from the spine to that location, but it will grow back and feeling should return within a couple of months. He also said the stitches looked good. So mind set at ease, I came on home and had the weekly Chee-Burger, an now will contemplate going to the gym and sitting in and out of the sauna for a little while, but nothing strenuous.
Shoe, those are quite a pair of shoes, given my age they would have fit in well at Woodstock or any commune, but if they are great for your feet, well, wear them anytime!
Cupcakes, the suggestion to ask the church is a good one, might she (or her friend) have a Facebook or other social media page?
I actually prefer celery, but the little ‘nibble’ bags they sell usually have a short ‘use by’ date so I’d rather go with the carrots.
Cat Glove, can’t you get the Kroger information from their website; it usually contains the weekly ad and their coupons (digital).
JtC, never thought about visiting a shelter just to treat the pooches and kitties…may have to see if that’s doable here. And Bernese Mountain Dogs are so beautiful…
nellie, there are a couple folks at the gym who are like that, if they corner you you have to listen to them for 10 minutes on a variety of topics. I’ve learned to duck around them, except when they corner a bunch of us in the sauna…
And it’s almost evening (for me, the dividing line between afternoon and evening is 6:00pm; don’t know if that standard or just my preference). Will finish up here and then maybe go to the gym for some real warmth. Take care all.
Howdy Y’all! It’s still white and ick out. I do not like snow. Not a lot of meltage today and with low overnight temps it’s likely to be icy in the mornin’. French toast made with cinnamon raisin bread is tres yum. That for breakfast any then taco soup for sup made for happy tummies. Nappage and day drinkin’ were also accomplished. The cold makes us want to hibernate, so I foresee an early bedtime.
When I had radiators and cats, that tended to be their favorite warm space.
I got a replacement last weekend. My car had the original battery (2018 with 60K miles) and tested OK during my last oil change, but I wanted to get it done without having to call AAA for a jump.
The news coverage gives me chills.
Yay! It got above freezing (33F, but I’ll take it) this afternoon for the first time since Sunday. The irk week is 3/4 over and the weekend should be much warmer, maybe even warm enough for the dog park.
I have been scolded and schooled! They are NOT Bernese Mountain Dogs, they are BerMese Mountain Dogs.
I knew you guys would love them no matter how I speeled their name. The first one is a young boy, the second one is their grand champion, mega trophy winner and catwalk strutter. I’m serious, when one of her people tells her to show her stuff, she struts like Jolene, tail in the air, grace and total confidence in every step.
You don’t gotta bring treats, Hubs just likes feeding critters and I will only let him give ours treats once a day.
I’m sure your local shelters would love to have you come and help keep their critters sweet. Dogs always need walking and socialization and cats tend to get shy if they don’t see people on a regular basis. Our shelter has regular visiting hours but we weren’t sure they would have enough staff to let us in today.
Did you ask your doctor about the sauna? That sounds like the sort of place that would encourage bacteria to thrive in a wound. (Do not follow any medical advice I give you, always ask your doctor or our beloved night nurse first.)
Hubs complained that one of his nipples was numb after his open heart surgery. He didn’t really care that it was numb, he hated that both of them didn’t feel the same way anymore. The feeling came back a year or so later.
You are bears after all!
I do feel sorry for Nelson. The Bermies were loving it, but they were bred for that sort of weather, not like your short-haired house dog. I’ll bet he was all BRRRR!!! when he had to go out.
BerMese. So the M must be capitalized.
Had to call a dr. and ask for a scrip, a YI ( men, don’t bother looking it up). Had one last year.
Called 8 peeps to see if they could pick it up for me ( too cold to bus). No one was available.
I was thrilled, those 14 years ago when I went thru menopause. Now I would take the pain and mess back in exchange for uti’s and yi’s.
Anyway, the deep freeze has passed ( but for how long?).
Went to lab and gave blood and saliva samples for the norovirus study I’m doing. Too much aggravation for the ‘compensation’, which their lowest bid app always screws up and now I’ll have to spend hours tomorrow chasing down a real live human who can straighten it out. Grrrrr…
Drove over to my tutee’s apt to drive her to the local food pantry distribution so she and her husband have food for the week ahead. What I gather myself I drop off to my lawn guy who is near homeless and has no way to get to a pantry. He lives across the alley a block south of me. He hadn’t responded to my text so his two bags are in my car, staying cold-who am I kidding, staying frozen hard. There’s a 1.5lb slab of thick cut cherrywood smoked bacon which I arranged enticingly on top of the bag covering up the generic instant potato packages and mac and cheese. I must confess to considering for a few minutes this afternoon to coveting that bacon for myself but I shook it off. Hopefully it’ll give him a couple of pleasurable meals that’ll stick to his ribs.
Then back to my tutee’s apt for a 90 conversational English exercise. She’d invited over a new friend from Sri Lanka so we went round robin introducing ourselves, asking and answering questions in English. The discussion between the two of them was interesting re their respective marriages. One has a ‘love’ match as she calls it, the other is in a traditional South Asian marriage arranged by their families. One of them appears much happier than the other.
Class over, I scuttled over to the library, what passes for a place of worship for me. Picked up my hold book, my #1 favorite author’s (Craig Johnson) latest and a stack of books for each grand kidlet, grandma curated to their interests. Spent a goodly amount of time chatting with the circulation librarian who I’ve gotten to know well over my 2 years of teaching literacy classes there. She and I solved many of the worlds problem but couldn’t get the right people’s attention to pass on our solutions.
Picked up Harriet from school, dropping off a stack of books for her to have in her special Ed monastic isolation cell, opps-I meant classroom. Seeing a new stack of books she didn’t want to leave them there so we took most of them home. She’s reading at least 4 years ahead of her grade level but the school librarian will only let her check out 2 books at a time and only books deemed at her grade level. Harriet does not have a good opinion of the school librarian, neither do I, so we connive to circumvent her. Ever the rabble rouser is Grandma Boo. Her actual teachers are grateful because they can’t buck the librarian but I can and do, repeatedly and regularly.
Then home, jiggedty-jig, to my robe, slippers, jammies, electric oil radiator, afghan and Velcro lap cat. In an hour or so I’ll go turn on the electric blankie to preheat my bed for a few hours. Such is an scintillating electric evening at Chez Boo.
Two short episodes of snow/pellet sleet this afternoon and gray skies but once you have a cat purring and snoozing contently on your lap, who cares? Made my Jerry-rigged ersatz Captain Morgan hot chocolate / rum mug o’day drinking delight and am about to lose myself in that Craig Johnson novel. Good guy hero fiction based in Wyoming beats reality any day, especially lately. Good will triumph over evil and both life long hero buddies will dispense witty and erudite clever repartee while doing so. Literary escapism works for me, as it has for the last 70 years or so.
We haven’t been to Olive Garden in donkeys’ years, and the commercials look tasty. The Spousal Unit suggested we go there Friday. I thought that if we’re going there Friday, maybe we should go to the newly-reopened Paso del Norte today; which we did. She said she didn’t realise how much she missed it. Anyway, now she wants to go to Olive Garden next Friday.
HA! I knew I hadn’t misspelled the name, I hear it so often.
Off I go to have a pointless argument with an internet stranger over nothing. Cause that’s one of the three reasons the interwebs were invented. (Porn and cats pics are the other two uses)
I have one piece of now-outmoded university electronic equipment that I’m permitted to have at home because I could teach a class again. I figure they’ll tell me if they inventory and want it back. And I did buy a stapler with a long throat so I could repair or create small perfect-bound chapbooks.
I’m just sorry I wasn’t around when schools got Xerox machines and trashed their Gestetner offset printers. I could have run a publishing empire from the garage!
