The local temps went up by twenty degrees, and at least one customer (granted, cocooned in their car) was in a tank top the other day, so … probably, yeah, shorts.
Maybe not flip-flops. It’s still a bit icy.

The younger kids these days have earbuds. Turns out, they don’t hafta pipe music or whatever; can just be white noise, or even simply act as earplugs.
It was 3F when I got up, its 8F now and sunny and bright. I’ve figured out that I can’t do white-work during the morning, but afternoons when the sun is behind the house are good.
We are thinking about going to the pet rescue place and petting cats, but we haven’t gotten an answer on the phone yet. They might just be feeding and cleaning, but not open for visits so we will wait to be sure that they want us.
I will go out and start both cars this morning. I haven’t driven mine for a week or so and the battery probably needs some charge.
I went to bed early and caught up on sleep. I dreamed that I made whiskey apple cake with a caramel filling and a cream cheese frosting. Apparently my subconscious thinks clogged arteries might be fun. Then I dreamed I was trying to get a student to pay attention while his own group was reporting, and he said he refused to conform because “Conformation is the ploy of autocrats.” I told him to rebel by sitting down and taking the F. He rebelled against that by electing to pay attention. It was more fun dreaming about apple cake.
I’m trying to decide whether I should walk to the bus station or take the bus. We have freezing fog this morning, so the latter would be safer, but I need the exercise. Maybe the fog will burn off by then.

It has stopped snowing. We didn’t get much. The temp is up to +11F, with a Winchell of -4F. Rawwther chilly! NP, is a guy who deals in batteries a batterist? A batterier?
My trip to the dentist ended up being a two hour ordeal. The molar that the crown came off of is in bad shape and the tooth next to it is cracked. He gave me the option of crowns for both, or extraction of the one (which has a marginal chance of success) and a crown for the other. I chose crowns for both, as extracting that molar would be arduous and painful. So after two hours of grinding and drilling and injections and fussing and photos, etc., I’m now at home sipping my coffee through a straw and waiting for the numbing agent to subside. I go back in two weeks for the permanents and a $3500 bill. Wheeee!
I’m processing right now. The high school that my kids are zoned for, though thankfully not attending, had a shooting today. One student shot two others then turned the gun on himself. My mama heart is breaking.
Wow! I assumed they were potted palms that were brought in just for the summer, to make the place feel tropical and replaced every season. Palm trees in merrylande?
Bought 4 lbs. of baby carrots to snack on and have a 4 Feb follow-up appointment with the surgeon on 4 February booked, so things are progressing nicely. Lunch was soup and sammiches, and have been internetting since then. Will watch some Champions League soccer and work on the NY TIme X-word to polish off the afternoon.

We’re back from running around and probably in for the rest of the day. We stopped at Wockenfuss and I bought a couple of pieces of fudge. EIGHTEEN FREEKIN’ DOLLARS A POUND! And it wasn’t really that good. But I just got $6 worth, so there’s that.
I think I’ll go ride the bike in the fitness center for a while.

I just got what I’m assuming is a scam caller about Medicare benefits. Thick Asian accented guy named “John” But he wasn’t asking for me, he was asking for a person that, before I sold my house, was my tenant. This gal was very sweet but kind of emotionally fragile, and her husband had died. She has a good friend, a guy who doesn’t live with her and I’ve seen them several times visiting at my church. I make sure to talk with them, but haven’t seen them lately. I’m afraid that if a scammer would get hold of her she could get hurt, although I’m sure she doesn’t have much. Her eyesight is also poor. I don’t have contact information for her though. Can someone advise me on how to find her to give her a warning. I liked the woman and her husband, and her new friend is good too.
Reminds me of when we visited Hubs’ sister in Roanoke. Stayed in a Quality Inn that was overrun with kids that were in a ?Quidditch? tournament.

My heart goes out to everyone involved, including the shooter. They must have been in so much pain to feel the need to lash out like that. Suicide is never painless, especially when you feel the need to take others with you.
Scammers are bad, scammers who target the elderly are the very worse. Do you know their friend? Does she sit next to certain people at your church? Would your priest maybe know? It’s good of you to want to warn her.

So we went to the shelter today and hubs gave all of the homeless dogs milkbones and we both petted cats for a while. Hubs and GG took a nap when we got home and Jolene has been “hunting” flying fuds.
It has gotten up to 27F and I dragged the big bin back to where it waits to be filled. Traffic seems normal except for the lack of school busses. The regular bus hasn’t stopped running, I should write a letter commending them.
We heard from Hub’s cousin who lives in Virginia Beach. It snowed. The Bernies approved.
