I’m sorry, is he ill or just super chillin’?
They were a huge hit, so without outing my benefactor (unless it’s okay with you, then I’ll happily sing your praises! You know who you are … ) know that a bunch of random pizza workers were randomly made quite happy today.
They make electric dog beds (similar idea to electric blankets & heating pads) those might be more efficient - being localized heat instead of diffused through the air - and thus easier on the bills.
Well, that does it. You’ll just hafta change your identity now.
Tossing Monkey a few treats - the little fucker adorable gentleman has me thoroughly trained. Otherwise I can’t sit down to decompress in peace.
Sending you many peaceful dreams.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 25 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 53 and N.O.S. Hopefully the remains of the evil white stuff will go away today. I woke up thinkin’ about the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet place so I will suggest that for today’s main need to feed. I don’t foresee any objections. Of course we will engage in the usual RDOS inactivities.
JtC yay for hubs doin’ so well. However he does need to understand that Jolene believes “ all your water glass are belong to me.
CupCakes OYKW likes to loll in the bed and watch teevee. I figure he earned that right. I like to loll in my recliner and look at teh intartoobz. Everybody needs loll time I believe.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Sure it could be fucking warmer outside, but you could also have snakes in your fucking toilet. Count your fucking blessings.” No snecks in my loo, thank you very much, and it’s sunny out there too.
I hope not! The points are the bits that move the track so the train goes on the correct route and doesn’t end up in the arse end of nowhere.
Yay for successful stents! I hope they can get him awake and functioning soon. Just tell them, Jolene has needs! And I see from a later post that all’s well with Hubs. Very good news, you can breathe again.
Neither do I, mum said she used to read to me and I’d follow the words on the page but I don’t remember actually learning to read. We always had books and magazines around at home so it was a natural outcome of my environment
nellie I’m sorry to hear about the dog, she sounds like a little sweetie. Also sorry to hear about Maintenance Guy, I hope he’s ok too.
Yesterday was a busy work day for me, delivered a training session in the afternoon for a complete newbie too. She was very nice, asked intelligent questions and seemed pretty sensible so I think she’ll do ok. After irk, I got over-excited and ran the rollsuck around the place before settling on the sofa for some slothage while 'im indoors made dinner.
I was up early today, went to the gym and burned 654 cals on the pushme-pullyou before I did Biplav’s kettlebells class. He does a mix of intervals and circuits in his class and said we need a light, medium and heavy kettlebell. Then he gave me a kettlebell that was 4kgs heavier than the one I was going to use as my heavy one…I told him I could go off him really quick.
Home for some restorative tea, then a shower before we head out for lunch and errands. I need to get more cat litter so we’ll drive up there and park on the little retail park where the pet store is (2hrs free parking) and walk into town from there. Back home for an early dinner (leftover chilli) before we head out to see Magnum tonight. May have to buy a t-shirt as the tour is tribute to the recently-deceased guitarist from the band. The singer wasn’t going to do this, because he said he couldn’t face being on stage without his friend, and couldn’t face singing songs they’d written together over the last 50 years. But he was persuaded otherwise, and has two sold-out nights at our favourite local venue.
Time to get on with stuff!
Yoiks! I sure hope someone, somewhere didn’t get yours.
Which reminds me of a perplexment (is too a word) - how the heck does a piece of paper many decades old prove who you are? I understand nowadays one’s SS# is assigned at birth and printed on the cert, but why should anyone believe the piece of paper saying I was 6#8oz and born in the San Diego Naval Hospital 71 years ago? It always struck me as odd.
I sure did - close to 10 hours of sleep. Well, except for the part where I woke with a sore throat - FCD said there was some snorage. I don’t care - good buddy Mel took care of my fatigue.
Me, too. I can’t recall the last time the TV in our room was on. I’d get rid of it, but it’s a good way to get the grands out of our hair, when it works. Plus if I took it down, the wall behind it would be scarred from the mounting hardware. So it stays.
JtC - do you have to stay in night nurse mode to keep him in line, or is he a more or less cooperative patient? Anyway, more good vibes for quick healing coming in the general direction of WV.
What does one do in a kettleball class? I suppose I could google it, but I’m sure your description would have more personality.
Ziva has apparently forgiven me for abandoning her for 3 days. She’s pacing around my chair yelling at me. She doesn’t want my lap - just occasional skritches.
I woke to 16° in our back yard - I’m going to beg FCD to resist going to the marina till it warms up a tad. I tried to convince him to wait till tomorrow when the high will be in the 40s, but that failed spectacularly. We’ll see how it goes.
Oh, and his vehicle - turns out the techs at the local Hyundai service had to call the Mothership for help. They replaced the module that’s associated with the fuse box - apparently it was draining the battery. We’ll see in the coming days whether it’s truly a fix or not. At least it’s all happened under warranty. And FCD is happy to have his wheels back - he doesn’t like to drive the Sonata. I don’t like him to drive it, either - he moves my seat and mirrors!!
Apart from going to the boat and getting measurements, I have no plans, but I’m sure things will come up. And as nice as our days at the beach were, I’m glad to be home.
Happy Saturday!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall sloth, and watch handegg and hockey. It’s also Burns Night, so don’t forget to address the haggis. Preferably addressed to go back to the hell from which it was spawned.
They never live long enough.

Because it’s on official paper, and because it’s tradition.*
Spackle?(I love that word)
*Tradition: peer pressure from dead people
I saw an article in the NYTimes about how they did 132 hours of testing on clitoral stimulators. The Panasonic Magic Wand was their top pick, in case you aren’t a subscriber. This morning, I woke up thinking about that article. I reached over to shut off the clock, and I saw it was an hour before my get-up time. I went back to sleep. 40 minutes later, I woke up with a cramp in my leg. T’ell with it. I got up and shut off the alarm.
I went to my doctor yesterday about my rattle-cough. She Rx’d an antibiotic and prednisone. She asked me how often I have taken my albuterol emergency inhaler. I also take a twice-a-day Advair for my asthma, but I’ve not used the Albuterol, though I always carry it. She told me I had to redefine “emergency.” She said, “If you are wheezing, if you are rattle-coughing, that’s an emergency. If you wait 'til you can’t breathe at all, you won’t be able to use an inhaler.” I don’t know why I never figured that out. Duh.
I opened my phone to see the temp, but it said it’s time for an update instead. Ah, technology! Grr.
I learned to read along with my older brother. Mom taught us, because she objected to the school’s see-say method. We learned phonics, before they called it that.
My phone’s back, and it’s 24F outdoors, on the way to a high of 36F. Occasional sunshine. Yippee, I guess.
Good morning all, just finished a quick breakfast (Carnation Instant and a banana) and will probably go out and watch some youth soccer this morning. Normally I would be refereeing some games but in deference to my healing hernia I will just watch and grin some. 26F now and due to get to 52F, so not too bad a way to reach the last few days of the month. Might make it into the 60’s by next week according to the Weather Wizards. we’ll just have to see.
nellie, sorry about the passing of your son’s dog and hope maintenance guy is ok…wasn’t a good day for man or beast… And Happy Wikipedia day!! (nice catch Piper).
Sure we’re not related?
lily, that’s a bit confusing; was the name anywhere close to yours? Or is someone else somewhere wondering who you are?
boo fae, I miss my exercising but I have no wish to be back in the hospital anytime soon so except (maybe) for some treadmill walking I’ll be taking it easy. Enjoy the night out.
FCM, hope FCD listened to you, pneumonia is not something to try and catch…
Knotty, hope you get to doing better on the breathing stuff.
Its going to be 30 doug reese today!
Off to the library and hoping for new magazines.
But the walls aren’t white, so there’s the whole trying-to-match-the-paint thing.
They called it phonics when I started school in the early 60s - exactly how old are you??
If anyone felt a slight shudder in The Force, I did a quick sorta-dust this morning. By that I mean I used one of those generic swiffer wand thingies and waved it around the most visible areas. I even moved a few things, but it wasn’t a proper dusting. Still, the field of white under the TV and on the piano is gone.
I also loaded the dishwasher and wiped down some counters. And put some stuff away. No roll-suck yet, but I may have a go at it. I’m also showered and dressed, but FCD has been and gone to the boat - he didn’t want to wait for the temps to get out of the teens because reasons.
I’m going to try to finish my last blanket this weekend, then call Jessica and see if she’ll come fetch them. Otherwise, I’ll make the trek down to Callaway myself. But I’d rather be lazy.
We’re promised close to 60° on Weds, before it drops back into the 30s for highs, but no major precip in the extended forecast, as least for now. So we’ll see.
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 26F and clear outside. It will remain clear all day, and the expected high temperature is 46F.
Nellie, I’m sorry about the pup. It sounds like she had a wonderful life once she was rescued. I hope the maintenance guy recovers, too.
I’m with you on the whole piece of paper proving who you are a thing, FCM. Ironically, an official birth certificate from a military installation is not proof of who you are; it must be the county-issued birth certificate. I discovered this when I had to obtain a secret clearance. It was good enough to go to work for federal service but not good enough for a higher level clearance. Go figure.
Laundry, chores, and perhaps walkies for the pups shall fill the day.
Happy Saturday!
It was 12, feels like 6, degrees this morning.
I thought it was supposed to be getting warmer.
It’s been a crappy morning, although nothing too horrible.
It took me well over an hour to order groceries because the website kept getting stuck, and the power went out several times.
I loaded the dishwasher, and it wouldn’t run. I got a PF code which stands for Power Failure. I went back to ordering groceries and asked my son to look at the dishwasher. Whatever the problem was, it fixed itself.
I don’t know what is up with the power, but there are more than a few messages on the Ring message board about it.
So groceries are ordered, and dishes are washing, and the pups have gotten their morning treats. We were going to stop by B/H house for a puppy playdate on the way to the store, but her Hubbie isn’t feeling well. We rescheduled for tomorrow. It will be warmer too.
I’ve made the sad decision that I have to toss my favorite sweat shirt. I know it’s at least 15 years old. It is the most comfortable shirt, the fabric is heavier than a t-shirt, but lighter than the usual sweat shirt. It’s very soft and warm. It started with a little hole on the elbow, and wearing thin on the cuffs. Now there are holes appearing along the seams.
I wish I could find another one like it.
You’d think tossing an old shirt wouldn’t be such a big deal.
I don’t know when I started reading. I got in trouble in first grade though because I was bored with the reading books we had in class.
I need to get busy around here, and get something to eat.
I’m getting a hungry headache.
Still trying to get over this cold. Mrs. L.A. bought pizza last night. It was smaller than the ones we normally get, and she got thin crust so that saves me a few carbs. She also got me a Caesar salad. She got fettuccine alfredo for herself, but she didn’t have any. Anyway, I had two slices of pizza and she had three.
I’ve just put a bone-in pork roast into the oven. I’m guessing it will be done around 13:30 to 15:30.
I should probably eat something, but I’ll probably wait until we get through the first pot of coffee.
Paintcharge hopefully the museum bosses recognize how useful you are and get you an offer of employment soon.
Great news JtC!
So what are the tanks for and why is the design so complicated? It seems like he’s been working on this for weeks (I know nothing about boats btw, so apologies if this is a stupid question)
I think the Magic Wand is made by Hitachi. And nope, absolutely no reason at all I would know that…
Another reading story.
When I was in second grade I was ln a story from our reading book. There was a two syllable word I didn’t know. So I did like we were supposed to and sounded out the letters. I did recognize “cup” The word was “hiccup” and I was so pleased at myself I trotted up to the teacher’s desk to show her. She told me “We’re not supposed to be up to that yet” and told me to sit back down. Way to encourage learning, huh?
Spot moved, so the bed is finally made. I’m having a gin&tonic and doing laundry.
They do, and they also make excavators. So if you need to dig a foundation, then relive some 19th Century style nervous hysteria, Hitachi has you covered.

I must have been more tired last night than I realized: my eyes opened at ~6:30am and after seeing the time I figured I’d go back to sleep for another 30-60 minutes, but I didn’t wake up again until 8:15! After taking care of the doggy and performing my own morning ablutions, I briefly logged into work to approve my employees’ timesheets and then set about paying my bills (yesterday was payday). I also placed an order with Chewy, and bought a ticket for a Lego event next month. Now it’s time to pop in here, before relocating to the living room for lunch.
This won’t come as a galloping shock to anyone who knows me, but I’ve decided to skip this afternoon’s local Lego show. Although we’re in a warming trend it’s still cold out there (currently 32°F with an expected high of 38), and in this weather I can quite easily talk myself out of going somewhere when I haven’t made plans with anyone or spent any money on a ticket. Lego is a motivator, but all morning I’ve been feeling “naaaah.” So, a day of sloth it shall be. (I’m definitely still going to DC tomorrow evening for Freda Payne, though.)
In between watching new episodes of current shows and re-watching Downtown Abbey, I recently started watching Love It or List It: Australia. I can’t stand the stars of the original show but I’ve always liked the concept, and I’m low-key curious about the houses/markets in various parts of Australia. Happily, the Australian stars are much easier to watch. Anyway, I’d had no idea that houses there are often sold via public auctions! Private sales – like we have in the States – aren’t out of the question, but auctions are more common. I’m about five episodes in, and finally got curious after repeated mentions of price guides. The show has an American “narrator” and takes the time to convert the currency and translate certain terms for an American audience, but so far they haven’t mentioned the auction thing at all. I figured I’d share, just in case anyone else finds this mildly interesting. Any Mumpers ever bought/sold a house Down Under?
I guess I should start thinking about what I want for lunch. A small chicken pot pie might be just the thing today…but often I’ll make a decision before I walk down the hall, then change my mind once I get to the kitchen.
Nope: like I said, I hadn’t been able to watch any of it yet. I also wound up not watching any of it yesterday. Whether I tune in to any of today’s events will depend on how I feel after I eat lunch and watch the newest episode of Shark Tank.
That is so great to hear! Sometimes new jobs start strong but then the bloom quickly comes off the rose. I’m glad you’re still enjoying it, and that they’ll be able to keep you busy for the foreseeable future.
My dad – who’s 76 – was a Russian linguist in the Army, and for the past decade he’s had a friend in Russia who’s 24 years younger and who he has regular video calls with: he practices his Russian, and Yevgeny practices his English. The other day, he was telling me about how during their most recent video chat the two of them were comparing age-related ailments. He said something like “it’s tough to be old [him] and middle-aged [Yevgeny],” and I had to remind him that I’m a year older than Yevgeny.
Excellent!
Oh, I’m so sorry!
Part of me hopes that Bailey makes it to 18, but only if her physical condition doesn’t get much worse.
I really appreciate the suggestion, but I’ve already tried something like that: Bailey won’t use it. She also doesn’t like blankets. (She’s definitely not always the smartest dog.) It was much easier to just run the oil heater 24/7 for a few days. I won’t know the power bill damage for another month, but I’ll be alright.
spring is just two months away…spring is just two months away…spring is just two months away…
Oh man, I totally understand his reluctance: years and years ago I was in a band that performed some originals, and the guitar player was my songwriting partner (and band co-founder). I’m glad he wound up doing it, but I can’t imagine how hard those shows are.
I swear, every time you write “marina” I read “marinara”…
Not at all close. I assume mine is in someone else’s mitts. I suppose I will now have to be very alert to identity theft.
nellie, I’m sorry about the dog.
Excellent!
That was my thought as well. Probably best if you retrun the one you got right away, with a letter asking them to find out where yours went. Document, document, document.
