(Old) Alexa, start the MMP

I recycled. I had soup for lunch. I played games on the Atari 2600+(5900 on Yar’s Revenge, 249 on Pac-Man). I took a nap. Hockey will be on in a bit.

We appreciate that.

This is mine
(I’ve got an uneven number(7 tea cup and saucer sets, but just 2 small plates, plus 6-7 of everything else)

GESUNDHEIT!

I can’t imagine why :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Nearly peed myself laughing.

Went to the CAA to get the batteries replaced in three key fobs, plus a remote start. Told the guy in the battery shop that they were all dead/not working in the cold, so needed them all replaced.

He opened the first one, took it over to the back counter, and tested it. “Yep, it’s dead", he said. Then he opened a package, took out a battery, and replaced it, snapping the fob back together.

Then he opened the second one, took out the battery, went to the back counter, and tested it. “Yep, it’s dead.” Opened package and replaced battery.

And then the third; « Yep, it’s dead. »

And the fourth. « Yep, it’s dead. »

You couldn’t have just taken my word for it, that they were all dead, and that’s why I was there, trying to give you money?

Over 100 posts for a Monday; probably not a record, but not bad. Got out for a bit and decided to pile on some calories, so a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a large fry from the Arches took care of that. If I don’t watch it I’ll lose all the gains in made losing weight in 2024, I may try going to the gym and just doing some light walking (slow and no elevation) so that I am getting some exercise. Just don’t want to overdo it. Do to 20F now and heading to a brisk15F. They are calling for near-record low temperatures for Tuesday night so will definitely want to stay in tomorrow.

BBBoo, you’re welcome; also listened to the Doobie Brothers “Old Black Water” that they recorded during COVID (it might be my most favorite song ever) before going over to the politics part of the board.

Cookie, 97 is a life long-lived. And apparently he still was functioning well. Falls are the bane of us older folks.

Piper, maybe that’s the company/store rules, or maybe he was just very careful (especially if some customer had given him crap about not testing them…). At least you are batteried.

And time to go watch some College tackleball and read another section of the Sunday NY Times. See y’all 2sDay.

I’m sorry to read that,

I caught up!

And I’m awake. Woke up around 1:25, and now it’s after 2 in the morning. Shouldn’t be on the computer, but I am.

Having rosehip tea and some nuts. For a long time I didn’t understand the appeal for rosehip tea, but that changed in the last year. It seems that part of it was due to the brand.

We don’t have an Alexa or Firestick, but we have some smart plugs for lights and our dishwasher, washer and dryer talk with an app, so our phones and tablets tell us when the appliances want attention.

Glad to see people are getting healthier. Do please continue this trend.

We just have normal coolness - so hovering around the freezing point. Later this week it’s going to get warmer. I hope that’s temporary because we need some better freezes to kill off the bugs in winter.

All of the above is silly & unnecessary concern.

Every Bluetooth device constantly broadcasts "My name is [whatever] and I’m a [whatever kind of device] & I’d like to connect if you’re willing. It takes human action on both devices to actually connect = “pair”. There is no security risk until / unless the other device is told by the other person to connect with yours and yours is told by you to connect to theirs.

The mere fact you can see other devices is simply a matter of the range of the Bluetooth transmitters. Sitting here in my easy chair in my big apartment building I can see (I just checked) over 25 devices ranging from other people’s TVs to beds to Alexas to headphones to telephones.

None of which I can actually connect to until their human intervenes.

I can also see 15 people’s WiFis and 3 more from nearby businesses. None of which I can use without their password. And even with their password I might be blocked from access by other aspects of their WiFi set-up.

All this is completely normal in the modern era.

I mostly had soup today for easy digestion. I’m skipping my night med. :crossed_fingers:

@LSLGuy Thank you. I am familiar with different wifi addresses showing up but don’t have much experience with Bluetooth.

Howdy Y’all! We had a good crowd tonight and as usual, solved all the world’s problems. Not that anyone ever listens to us. We now have a WINTER STORM WARNING in effect from tomorrow afternoon into Wednesday mornin’. We are told it will be French toast weather. Good thing we have milk, bread and aigs on hand. Weather can do as it will. We intend to be inside and warm. I’m pretty sure we won’t lose power, but devices will be fully charged. Who knows what TWPTB will be sayin’ tomorrow, however.

Lots of posts today! I sorta read all, but as y’all know my ability to read, comprehend and remember is low due to the fact that I have only two functionin’ brain cells.

Now it’s sleepy time. Night y’all!

gee Thomas Edison was alive thousands of years ago? that would be news to the people at Greenfield Village. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hubs and daughter are back from Tony Packo’s and I’ve eaten my coney dog. They also stopped at a place called Schmuckers and bought a caramel apple dutch pie. Had a slice and YUM!

because you’re an engineer; it’s part of the logical discipline part of your brain.

gee, when we went to Mardi Gras in Nawlins in 2019, there was absolutely NO cleansing of anyone’s souls; kind of a lot of debauchery.
Pazcki Day is similar in that all sugar, lard, etc is to be eaten/disposed of before Lent starts. We start doing penance on Ash Wednesday.

We don’t have Alexa either. Former SIL wired their apartment for Siri. I HATED having to say “Siri, turn on the lights in xxx”. Apparently the version of Iphone that Hubs has, he addresses it as Siri when he asks questions. I do ask my Iphone questions, generally what the temperature is, how old various people are or ask it to set timers, but I don’t address it by name. Doing so is too weird to me.

Although it was only 12F, I took Bella for a walk so she could do her business. As soon as she did, we headed for home so only out about 15 minutes.

Wear/get a balaclava.

I don’t know either

did your opthamologist not give you one of those ‘darkeners’ to put over the bridge of your nosepiece or even a pair of non-prescription sunglasses that can be worn over your glasses?

oooooooh, I’m so sorry to hear that! but glad that you found the electric blanket last night. How often do you have to get an injection? Can you let the doc know about the side effect so perhaps s/he can address it?

[giggling]

Ok, I’ve made it through post 59 and you folks have already posted 111 posts total. I need a break and also I just found out Cecile Richards passed this morning.

Have a nice evening.

Blame it on Alexa.

Skip this if you’re sick unto death of the Noisy Neighbor saga. I heard back from the manager. The noisy neighbor is claiming discrimination is behind the noise complaints, so the manager has backed off of the eviction threat and is hoping the noise issue will decrease as she “teaches them” what’s appropriate and what’s not. I’m going to the office to talk to her tomorrow, but it sounds like the rest of us are going to be suffering for the foreseeable future.

I so wish he’d said, “It’s dead, Jim.”

When emptying my dishwasher, I inventoried my dishes. Apparently, I bought two 8 place setting sets. I got rid of the saucers and coffee cups ages ago as I don’t drink coffee, and I prefer mugs for tea. Anyway, I have 16 dinner plates and 15 bowls, but only 12 dessert plates, which suggests I bought them separately. No clue why I bought service for 16 - even when we do entertain, it’s never for that many people. At least not for a sit-down dinner. Maybe for a cookout. So anyway, now we all know my corelle situation.

And as it’s approaching 9:30, I think I’ll mosey back to bed and try to get some sleep. :sleeping_bed:

Thanks. It will probably pass. Compared to being nauseated every minute of every day, I’m feeling pretty good most of the time. The injection is weekly. I can’t do anything until Friday night–it’s in my system. With Ozempic, you can “click” in a lower amount than the prescribed dose, but not with Mounjaro, which uses a different type of injector. I could ask my doc for a lower dose, but insurance isn’t going to cover that until I’m due for a refill in 3.5 weeks.* I’ll see how I am on Friday. Having been through chemo and 2 years of Ozempic, plus having bad motion sickness, I know everything my doc knows about nausea and vomiting management. This is very likely to abate after my body gets used to the higher dose.

*ETA: That would be $1,057 out of pocket.

Because they’re in a protected class that you and others magically inferred by their noise? With your x-ray vision? Do keep us posted, and sorry.

QFT. Players of the “I’m always the victim” card seem to believe that being expected to abide by the same rules as everyone else is somehow discriminatory, based on my observation.

Having a cheeseburger and an Old Fashioned. It’s getting a wee bit chilly outside.

Also being ex-Navy, gotta make sure you adhere to the TO&E.

Amazon Interweb TV stick.

Dammit Jim, I’m a battery salesman, not a doctor!

In addition to Swampy’s comprehensive answer, why would an English church use French terminology?

Vada retro me, Pierre!
