(Old) Alexa, start the MMP

Whatever that might be…

We, for some reason, have two Corelle bowls – different sizes and shapes, and both plain white.

Playing my backgammon game that I downloaded. I’m bearing my pieces off, and there are two opponent pieces in position 1. One of the dice I rolled was a 1… Five times in a row! A swear the game cheats.

Wouldn’t surprise me. I’m convinced the version of Hearts that comes with at least some version of Windows cheats by ganging up on the human.

My outside porch light is on a motion sensor which picks up the truck when I drive into the garage. It occasionally will turn on to a passing bunny/squirrel, but not very often.

It gets you TV over the Internet, instead of cable or on air.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/36f with a predicted high of 5c/40f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Calm down, weirdo. It’s not that fucking cold out.” I know it isn’t, I’ve been outside already.

It’s always nice to be recognised  I did some proofreading for a friend’s book of short stories. In the acknowledgements, he credited me with the 187 commas I’d added to it!

My old satnav had a small number of “celebrity” voices. Naturally, I started off with Ozzy Osbourne, always gave me a smile when he said I’d “reached my foookin’ destination”.

Lily I hope you can get the dosage evened out and you lose the nasty side-effects quickly.

That is sad news, but as you say, he had a good long life and must have had plenty of tales to tell.

The noisy neighbour is clearly an idiot. Sadly those who want to play the victim in these scenarios rarely understand the concept of common decency.

Yesterday afternoon’s meeting was long and tedious, but the minutes should be pretty easy to write up, that’s a job for later this morning. I was awake when the binmen came round, good thing I hauled the biiiiiig bin out to the kerb last night.

I got up a little later than usual, fed and medicated the cats, cleaned the litter tray and vacuumed up all the litter Cherry redistributed over the floor. Then I went outside to haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives. Now I’m having a cuppa and some breakfast before I look at the inbox skip fires.

This morning I’m off to the vet with Shadow for his arthritis shot, I have a couple of meetings, and I’ve blocked out some time this afternoon to do a job that requires peace and quiet (no chance of getting either of those things for the rest of the week in the office). I also need to prep campus food for the next three days but that will happen after I’ve logged out of irk.

I might just be able to squeeze in another cup of tea before I head to the vet though!

Very specific!! I love it!

We never use the spoken instructions - just the map. And for me, it’s just a reminder. Before we go anywhere new, I look up the route and get it in the map portion of my brain.

Like for today (from memory) after we cross the Bay Bridge, we’ll get on 404 (I’m pretty sure that’s the route number - maybe 414?) that will cut the southwest corner of Delaware, then turn on 13 south where we’ll come to the diner for lunch, then continue south to 90 east which will deposit us on Coastal Highway about 6 blocks from our hotel. I’ll still pull up the GPS but this is what my brain map is telling me.

My day has started off just after 5 and my email held a surprise - in the account where I mostly get junk mail, I saw a familiar sender’s name - a girl (is that the right term at 70?) who was in my first squadron in the Navy. I’d actually met her while we were going thru training in Millington in late 1983. She’s living in Arlington or Alexandria - one of those A cities outside DC - and I haven’t seen her in ages! We will definitely be getting together soon. Nice morning surprise!

Nicer than the 13° outside (and still falling!!) So glad we have a garage - no ice to scrape and a relatively warm car awaiting us. I don’t think temps in the garage have ever gotten below 40°.

I’ve fed my face and caffeination continues. Once my computer time is done, I’ll start gathering the foodstuffs for the trip. When FCD gets up, it will be shower, dress, and pack time. I’m hoping we’re on the road shortly after 9. It’ll take about 3 hours to get to the diner for lunch, then another 20 minutes to the hotel. I asked for an early check-in - it could be as early as 1:30. And if we have a substantial enough lunch, we won’t want any supper. So that should be my day.

Time to surf on! Happy Tuesday!

ETA - it’s 113, not 13 south. Glad I checked.

Sounds technical and necessary. I like it!

Do these two sentences go together??

That sucks. I hope there’s a real resolution in the future.

It’s -6F here this morning and poor MusicMan is out working in this weather. The most exciting thing to start was when he put the window down in the truck and it took several minutes to get it to go back up again! Sunday I had him go to the store and buy some warmer clothes, so hopefully they do help. No matter the weather, at least 6 times per day he has to climb the ladder up the side of the trailer and fasten/unfasten the tarp covering it. :disappointed:

I am so darn tired of coughing at this point. Just when I think that it’s gone away, it comes back, fresh and new. Regardless, I have to go out and run some errands today.

Oh, and Annie is totally over my coughing. She’ll be laying here snoozing on my lap and then it scares her every time I start to cough. Hopefully this ends soon.

Ok, everybody, have a great day and stay warm! And FCM, hope you have a great trip!

Good morning all! Just to chime in about the weather, it is -11f, (-24c) here this morning. I have not checked on the wind chill but I am sure it is brutal. I give some thanks to being retired and having groceries, including coffee and hot chocolate, in the house so we do not have to go out in this nastiness.

Good morning.

It’s 28F and partly cloudy outside. The day will consist of clouds and sun at various times, and the expected daytime high temperature is 42F.

Nellie, I’m annoyed for you. Like…seriously annoyed. There has to be something they can do, like record the extreme noise during quiet hours, etc. My noisy neighbors tried to play the race card, too, but once the sheriff heard about everything that had happened, they were basically told to stow it and be quit being jerks.

Yes, a Firestick is a digital streaming device for TVs. Firestick. I have the older version, which is the Fire TV Stick 4K.

I cut the cable cord almost a year ago. Wait, maybe two years ago, I can’t remember, other than it was in February. I miss some aspects of cable TV, but I do not miss the bill.

I’m not looking forward to work today. People were upset due to an Executive Order, and my messages blew up. There is nothing we can do but hang on and wait for direction from much higher-up leadership to trickle down. Suffice it to say, I will be in the office much, much more, and I’m not even sure I’ll get a single telework day. We shall see.

My son did not come up yesterday either because he had to prepare for a meeting with the state legislature.

Welp, it’s time for more coffee. You all take care of yourselves and stay warm. While it’s a bit nippy in the mornings out here, it’s nothing like some of the lows you are all experiencing.

Sticky, I’m sorry you’re still feeling poorly.

FCM, I hope you have a wonderful trip. I’m much like you regarding road-tripping; I make a list, even if it’s just a few days. I also look at maps before the trip and download them to my phone to familiarize myself with my route. It does make a difference.

Lily, I hope the side effects go away as soon as possible or that you can work out a dosage that doesn’t physically affect you and in the pocketbook.

Same here. We got YouTubeTV so we could get local news, and that’s lots cheaper than the cost of cable, plus the cable boxes, plus whatever other fees Breezeline sticks in there.

OK, I’m fed and caffeinated, I answered my friend’s email, I updated Outlook - guess I should start packing and stuff. I’ll be back once we hit our hotel room and log into their WiFi! TTFN!

I read your story and felt sad. What a memorable man to have known.

:slightly_frowning_face:
I’m so sorry.

Sorry to hear that.

Such madness for all us in varying degrees.

I wish you well with your work struggles.

I am trying to stay on the angry side lest I sink into despair.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 27 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 36 around eleven a.m. and then the temp drops and TWPTB say we will get two to four inches of snow through the afternoon and evenin’. We shall see. I guess it will be for real as my phone will not shut up with the weather notifications. No matter to us as we have nowhere we need or want to be. We can sit on the back porch, watch the snow and day drink. Today is also laundry day. I am so excited. I made taco soup yestiddy so that will be sup. I will be nice and warm in up even.

Cookie so sorry about your friend. He had a long run, however and was active right up till the end.

MOOOOOOM y’all have a safe trip!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

60 miles away from hippie I’m at minus 13, wind chill is minus 19 degrees. Schools have canceled because of the danger so I’m off in a few minutes to do Grandma grandkid wrangling at my daughter’s. I’ve got a cup of coffee in my hand and a Siamese draped across my shoulder purring meezer jazz in my ear. They will have the fireplace going there and there’s be a fair bit of watching kid movies with a bucket of popcorn in our lap, wrapped up in afghans in Grandma Basement School today. Hot chocolate is in my future today too.

Keep warm everyone, keep a mug of something hot and bracing nearby at all times and stay the heck inside cuddled up with your doggies, kittehs and assorted humans. Indulge yourself with comforting food and hang out here ass much as possible.

Chats, be safe on your adventure, throw a couple of extra blankets in the backseat of the car just in case and have a high old time.

-18F this morning and the heating system is doing its usual crappy job. I’ve turned the oven on to generate some level of comfort, along with the space heater. I looked at buying a second space heater, but they all get iffy reviews and by the time it gets here we’ll be back in warmer weather.

We’ll likely continue to clean out the refrigerator today, although that much excitement may cause palpitations. Did the bottom shelf drawers yesterday and discovered that something very goopy leaked down from a higher level. We’ve really been negligent in keeping that thing cleaned out.

Otherwise, we’re just hunkering down until this system blows on through. A good day for hashbrowns and eggs, I think.

We’ve been pretty happy with this: Amazon.com: Presto Heat Dish Plus Parabolic Electric Heater : Home & Kitchen. Cats deeply love it. Ours was from Costco.

Good morning all. Watched the Buckeyes win the College tackleball championship and also finished the Sunday NY Times and got to bed before 11pm so a good night. Nothing much on the schedule today, it’s currently 17F heading to 29F but supposed to drop to 5F Tuesday night, so staying inside and slothful will probably be my main purpose in life today.

FCM, safe travels and a happy (and quiet) getaway.

And back later after a big bowl of Rice Krispies.

Heat wave! Temps have rocketed up ~20* C overnight. We’re now at a more seasonal -12C.

Emptied dishwasher from last night’s load, and filled it with dishes from yesterday. I often just don’t feel like loading it up in the evening, so I try to load it in the morning, then turn it on as soon as I get home in the evening. (Don’t like running it when I’m not home, so I don’t turn it on in the morning.)

Critters all fed and content.

Stopped at a Tim’s on the way to work.
