It’s now past eleven at night and you WOULD go and make me hungry.
I’ve never encountered this before tonight, but that sentence hit me on all the feels.
I see what you did there.
I was wondering the same thing.
Shysters can put whatever the hell they want in a contract, even illegally, as long as nobody calls them out on it (or chats with a lawyer).
So a “few” things turned into … well, let’s just say I’m stocked up for a while.
Lotsa rat food (bran flakes, oatmeal, brown rice) and a few more thingies of assorted gooshy-fud for the local House Panther.
I like to get different stuff for him, cuz I’ve heard many stories about the wailing & gnashing of teeth that ensues when a cat gets fixated on 1 particular kind of food and then it’s discontinued.
So he gets a variety, and so far no complaints have been lodged with management.
Also got the fixin’s for my weird “chicken salad” concoction (shredded bird, slices of brie, generous dollops of chili crisp and Chick-fil-A sauce, plus cilantro and green onion so it has been in contact with vegetables & therefore counts as “salad” and is totally healthy) so I have a nice, tasty, protein-rich meal for tomorrow’s Long Night shift.
Plus soooooouuuuuuup cuz it’s colder than brass monkey balls out there, and The Oracles state that it will remain so - daytime high temps under freezing, at best - for the foreseeable future.
Finally, thanks to SuntanLotion putting the suggestion in my brain, I got spinach & pie crusts to make quiche. The eggs in my fridge are - like me - not getting any younger.
Except I couldn’t remember if it needs milk or not - man, it has been too dang long since I baked a quiche - so I gotta go back & get that.
'Sfine, it’s not like the quiche will happen tonight, and certainly not tomorrow.
Speaking of lovable house panthers, I came back to walk into … let’s say olfactory evidence of what evil that Monkey had just wrought upon his litter box.
Damn, dude, what are people feeding you?
Oh … yeah.
Our work “holiday” party is next Monday (we always do it after the actual holidays, cuz that’s such a busy time for everyone) and we’re having a Taco Bar!
I’m so excited. (And I just can’t hide it!)
Grumpy Oven Master (the one with buttloads of culinary experience) promised to make birria, and Special Co-worker is super excited to make us cookies, and to bring her boyfriend.
I’m lazy, so I signed up to bring sour cream (which I got today, in one of those squeeze-type containers for easier & more hygienic sharing) plus guacamole, which I’ll buy fresh the day-of. (And also, apparently, milk for my quiche!)
Oh, shit!! There’s an optional gift exchange. I oughta get something fun for that … IDEAS PLZ, MUMPERS??
There will also be bowling, which I doubt I’ll partake in, cuz I don’t enjoy it at all … but S.M. has promised to play me a game of pool.
Damn, it has been a HOT MINUTE since I twitched a pool cue, though; I’m sure I’ll make a complete ass of myself.
Oh, and for the first time, there will be a cash bar, so maybe I won’t feel so embarrassed after all. A lil’ liquid courage always lubricates a party, even if some of the partiers are underage/don’t drink.
ETA @teelabrown and @Baker yeah, that DOES sound good!
Miz Used-to-be-a-Budrista-Extraordinaire and who lives in a state where it is all legal, asks us, marooned in no-fun-at-all states, for ideas for a gift exchange? A tester flight of edibles or even a gift certificate for a store you trust. Wrap it with a king size Snickers or Reese’s and they’ll be happy.
Some of my co-workers are underage. And a few others do not parktake (the little weirdos) so nah, it’s gotta be family friendly.
For the underage thing I was gonna suggest a box of fun colored condoms but you edited it to family-friendly and ruined all my fun.
A gift basket of the different Spam flavors? Everybody’s gotta eat.
Not enough time for FCM to crochet you a set of cat butt coasters and mail them to you.
I’m back to snickers and Reese’s peanut butter cups, a big bag. Or twizzlers or gourmet gummy bears (Albanese brand)-their gummy worms are great too and Walmart carries them.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a balmy 29 degrees ferret height(-1.67 Centipedes).
Yeah, Maggie Wonderbeagle didn’t poop for 2 days because the 20" of snow were up to her shoulder.
Fingers crossed for the museum gig.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 31 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 56 and N.O.S. The big items on today’s agenda are to make cheese thangs and attend the Epiphany partay over to the church house. It’s from three until six p.m. I like the idea of socializin’ for a couple of hours and bein’ home before dark. Any need to feed will be via partay snackage and/or forage.
CupCakes if cheese straws are not served at a southern weddin’ reception, the validity of the weddin’ may be called to question. Cheese thangs are usually partay and not reception fare cause they ain’t fancy like cheese straws.
VanGo great news about the museum gig! Hope it turns into a steady one.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
I apologize in advance for what I’m about to sing:
SMURFBERRY CRUNCH IS FUN TO EAT!
A SMURFY, FRUITY BREAKFAST TREAT!
If you’d like, you can blame MusicMan for that! I had just about gotten it out of my head and then he started singing it again this morning.
VanGo, great news about the job!
Fellow humans with mental health issues, thank you.
I have declared it to be arts and crafts day here. As soon as my mom gets up, I’m going to get out the leather that I bought awhile back and see what I can come up with. Has anyone here ever used Sugru? I bought some on Amazon and it showed up yesterday. And it was $26 for the world’s tiniest box! I hope it’s worth it.
I also have to make it to the one art store that had my stuff for sale. My year contract is over and I am definitely not renewing. I don’t think that I made more than $100 the whole year. Fortunately, I do have the other space at the mall - which I have to get in there, too, and take down my Christmas stuff. I just bought a (purple) collapsible wagon to bring groceries up the ramp and it will certainly come in handy for moving all of that stuff around, too!
I can’t believe it took this long for someone to make that observation! Gold star for you!
Shoulder length. Daughter is much braver than I - had her hair been like Roxy’s, it would have been very short till she was old enough to deal with it herself. Luckily for me, both FCD and I have very straight, relatively fine hair so the most complex thing I did for Daughter was French braids on very very rare occasions.
Same here, especially since I like it lots better than FCD. Usually, I’ll make 2, then slice them up and freeze meal-size portions for future quick-zap meals. It makes an excellent breakfast. Of lunch. Or supper. Dammit, now I need to make some quiche.
I always found these to be fun.
Here, too!
It was another night of weird dreamage - yet again taking place in my last Fed workplace. I was there for some kind of training - not as an employee, but whoever conducted the training rented the auditorium. (No, that building didn’t have an auditorium.) While I was waiting, there were lions walking around inside the building - a male and 2 females - and we were under strict instructions not to touch them - just ignore them and they’ll go away! Then a woman who worked there came up to me and said she wanted me for the lead in their production of Romeo and Juliet. Then I woke up.
I retired from that job in 2011 and have never gone back to the building except in weird dreams. I don’t act - I’ve never acted, so I don’t know where that bit came from. Oh, and I was wearing the ID badge I got when I worked at the Pentagon in the early 80s. I still have it - a laminated badge with my picture and name - It’s a really cheap badge and absolutely nothing like the ones used these days. Just weird.
It apparently snowed a little bit more last night, but we’re not supposed to get any more till Sunday night into most of Moanday - unless the forecast has changed since last night.
Speaking of last night, Daughter reported that while Tobias was on the terlit for his evening poop, he was singing Jingle Bells. Most people sing in the shower - he sings on the can!
I’m not sure what the plan of attack for today is. I’m pretty sure it won’t involve going outside!
Happy Saturday!!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 1c/34f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “What a fucking craptastic day.” I agree with that, it was cold when I went out this morning, but not as frosty as yesterday so I didn’t spend long scraping stuff off the car so I could see to drive. We have a weather warning for snow, ice, freezing rain and sub-zero temperatures - the warning covers the entirety of England with some extra/different warnings for Wales and Scotland. Weather app suggests we’ll get snow from 9pm onwards so we’ll see.
My regular visits to my hairdresser are a proper treat - I always thought if I had a big lottery win, I’d spend some of it paying to get my hair washed and styled properly all the time. Plus my hairdresser’s salon has massage chairs so that’s an added bonus.
BBBoo I’ll be keeping all my appendages crossed for your pre-op stuff and your surgeries too. I am sure it will all go well and you’ll be happy with the result.
Hurrah! That’s very good news, I hope it does turn into something more permanent for you.
Today I was up reasonably early to do feline tums and bums, then had a cup of tea and a banana before heading to the gym. Burned 600 cals on the elliptical trainer, and then did a half-hour kettlebells class. Biplav decided we should do circuits in his kettlebells class, so that’s what we did. There were only 3 of us in the class, but it was still fun to do, and a bit of a change from the usual routine.
Back home again for a shower before we head into town for lunch and errands. I don’t have much that I need to do apart from getting some cash from the ATM and replenishing the stock of birthday cards and postage stamps at home. After that, we’ll come back and sloth for a while before we work out tonight’s plans.
We should be out at a local gig but with severe weather warnings, we don’t know whether it will happen, or it will all happen, or some of it might. It’s for a friend’s 40th birthday, there are due to be 4 bands playing - the headline act is very local to us so they should not have problems getting here. As far as I know from farcebook updates, the birthday girl and one of the bands from just north of London are already on their way. That leaves the two other bands to sort themselves out, and our friends from up north who need to make a decision on whether they’re travelling or not.
Also, 'im indoors should be leaving tomorrow to go down to Bristol as he starts a new contract on Monday so he needs to be on-site for 9am. It’s a 2hr train journey to Bristol, then he’d need to get another train out to Filton and then get himself to the place he’ll be working. Definitely best to head down to Bristol tomorrow, but again that’s weather-dependant because the rail service he’d need starts further north. Another “wait and see” kind of thing.
Afternoon.
We currently have no snowpocalypse warnings for today- I feel cheated. What was the point of moving further North if the South gets all the snow and we don’t? Or is that the prediction? I’m never quite sure with these warnings; I mean, does it scale across the country? I can say for sure that Cornwall goes into a meltdown over a quantity of snow where the Scots would still be out in shorts and a t-shirt. They even grit the tiny residential street I live on, which never happened down South.
Having a day of catching up with stuff today- after spending most of what should have been a lovely long break down with some lurgy my friend gave me in Spain (I told him chocolates or similar is a more traditional gift, not germs, but he just had to be different). Finally getting over it enough to go into town today- on the bus, cos I still haven’t got the car situation sorted out. I had to get some stuff done before irk starts back up on the 6th. Luckily the bus route from here isn’t bad- every 15 minutes during the day and there’s a stop right outside the supermarket to just across the park.
I’m hoping the weather is either fine or we get so much snow they just tell everyone not to come in on Monday… I’ll take either option, but anything in the middle leaves me with a really annoying commute.
Congratulations!!! That is quite a way to say goodbye to the old year and ring in the new!
I’m baaaaack. Surgery was a success. Pretty minor - the twin was just about 2 cm in diameter, but super close to my spine, so they made a cut about double that into my back to make sure they got any margins if needed. The prep took maybe two hours; actual surgery not even an hour. Honestly, I was so comfy after the sedation I was a little annoyed they made me get up.
Got home yesterday afternoon. ate something, slept for 12 hours. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the cocktail of drugs you’re given in advance of surgery in the U.S. Between the antianxiety meds and benadryl, I was dissociating well before they wheeled me back, then they did twilight sedation and local and sent me home with narcotics. I’m hopeful will all those wind up in a safe disposal dropbox somewhere because this is so far totally manageable with Tylenol.
I’m hoping everyone has a fabulous weekend. scareyfaerie, you’ve already been ridiculously productive - how do you like your kettlebell class?
Good morning.
It’s 40F and raining. We’ll have periods of rain throughout the day, with a high temperature of 49F. In other words, it’s gonna be another soggy one. I’m jealous of the folks getting some snow. I’d like to see some lowland snow. The mountains are getting plenty, though.
FCM, Roxy is such a cutie. I’m betting that even at shoulder length, her hair would be quite long if they used a straight iron.
BBBoo, I hope all goes well with pre-op and the procedures.
VanGo, I am glad to see you have a chance for some work. I hope it becomes permanent.
I am also worried about JtC.
Today is my daughter’s 35th birthday. Jesus, how do I have a daughter who is 35? I used to make her a cheesecake for her birthday, and we’d all get together to celebrate. I miss that.
Polar loved the snow. I couldn’t get that dog to come inside if there was snow outside. I have many pictures of him lying in the snow.
I officially ran out of dog food this morning, so I have no choice but to make myself presentable for public viewing and go out and get some. The pups have an appointment for another round of shots on the 13th, plus nail trimming and an exam for Buster because I noticed some funny lesion-type things on his underside. I’m not sure if it’s from licking or if he has something else going on. Usually, that would be an in-office day, but I will take the whole day off. I’ll also need to give Maisie some calming meds a couple of hours before the appointment.
Okay, I suppose I should get the day started. Take care, everyone.
I remember when my mother was marveling that all three of her daughters were over 50.
FCD claims before one of my surgeries, I was saying “Hey, let’s sing some show tunes!” That’d be pretty relaxed for me, for certain!
My baby girl turns 40 this year!! How is that possible?? Yeah, I know what you mean.
And my youngest sister will be 60 in May - she was 8 when I left home and now she and I are both grandmothers.
Well, after thinking and talking about it for the last 2 or 3 weeks (I lost track) I finally deep-cleaned both bathrooms upstairs. I’ll ignore the one downstairs (except for the terlit and sink) unless I’ve got someone staying here who will use that bathroom. Highly unlikely in the near future.
The sun is shining and it’s still not hit 30°. And neither of us has ventured outside. Not sure if we will, either.
Thank you~when I agreed to it a few months ago it seemed like no big deal but as it creeps closer the worry gremlin likes to claw their way up onto my shoulder and natter dire things in my ear.
Thank you @Kitten_Mitten and nellie too and everybody else, swampie and hippie, just everybody.
Wordy my ex used to say I was the only person who looked forward to surgery. He11yes. Sedation is involved. Pass the Versed.
Shoe, a bottle of Poo Pourri and a pack of TP makes an excellent grab bag gift.
Today is my nephew’s 52nd birthday. That cannot be possible.
WetOne that is an excellent suggestion!!
We will absolutely be thinking of you. And ready to help you give the gremlin the smackdown.
