(Old) An Air of Finality in the last 2024 MMP

I’m always surprised at how “moderate” (albeit rainy and otherwise miserable) Scotland’s weather is given how far north it is. I would have expected a much lower record low.

Looks like the record low here in OKC was -17f/-27c way back in 1899. It did get down to -14f/-25c in 2021 and that was ABC (ass bitin’ cold). The dang Canadians sent an Arctic blast that kept everyone in their house for over a week, because no one here is really equipped to deal with that.

The snow is flying in philly, it is not accumulating, sadly. It is in the melt when it lands stage.

No snow here in N. Ali-bama but it is 42F and will be dropping to 24F tonight, so just as well no precipitation is scheduled (at least until Sunday). Got my 2 miles of swimming in but the scale told me I had gained 2lbs, so I had some bacon sammiches and cookies because if I’m going to gain weight anyway, I’ll damn well enjoy it. Have to leave to help get the gym ready for indoor soccer tomorrow, mostly putting blue tape on the floor and assembling the goals, shouldn’t take too long. Then Big Bowl O’Sallit to finish off the day.

FCM, she didn’t look real happy in the pic, but that’s quite a bit of hair up there once it’s left free to roam. Hope the snow doesn’t pile up too high.

shoe, have fun going crazy; and while it may not be my business (never stopped me before), does Car-less Cow-Orker provide you any gas money for your transportation services?

Cat Glove, enjoy the Hungarian Hot Dogs.

Herald, never got into the John Grimes series, may have to give it a look once I’m caught up on these.

And time to put my jacklet on and head over to the gym. Catch y’all later.

  • Did a load of laundry.
  • Hand-washed the dishes (because why not?).
  • Cleaned the stove.
  • Cleaned the toilet.
  • Went to Rite-Aid to pick up a prescription.

The prescription was supposed to be ready by 13:00, so I showed up around 14:50… only to be told it’s not in stock and I’ll have to wait until Monday.

Wifey, RN came home. She had some blood drawn in the morning, then had two patients. One gave her a card with a nice tip in it. The other patient gave her a card, and a gift bag containing tea and a jar of apricot spread.

Friday is data night, but she took us out the other day. I asked what she wanted to do for dinner, and she said we could have some beans’n’greens. Works for me!

ETA: A half-hour or so ago, Rite-Aid called to tell me (this time by recording) that my prescription is out of stock. A few minutes ago I got another robo-call saying it’s ready to pick up.

I made us chicken kara age for lunch. That’s Japanese fried chicken, if you didn’t know. Chunks of boneless chicken are marinated in soy, sake, ginger, and garlic, then coated with potato starch and deep-fried, and it makes an awesome fried chicken. We had it with a side of fresh spinach in ponzu sauce and fresh cucumber pickles with red pepper paste and sesame oil.

It’ll be hard to top that for dinner. Probably some plain grilled cheese sammies.

We’ve had a nice little bit of rain, but not enough to satisfy me. It’s going to be dry for the next week, according to the weather.

Close to the same here in the Nashvegas 'burbs. It’s down to 36F, so I’m glad I took Nelson to the dog park when it was still in the low forties this afternoon.

Got some mending done, did laundry, made a couple of quarts of veggie broth and have a couple of quarts of chicken broth ready to decant for the freezer. I also got the spice rack replenished and wiped down. After KP, I’ll mess around in the studio for a bit.

Howdy Y’all! As I said earlier, today has been a day of high RDOS inactivities. Intartoobz, readin’, nappage, and day drinkin’ passed the time. Sup got nuked and et. We shall attend the Epiphany partay over at the church house tomorrow, so I set out butter and cheese to soften and will make a batch of cheese thangs to take.

Home from a day at the office. Have to go out tomorrow for some errands that can’t be put off. Big Piper Mutt keeps wanting out, then back in, staring at me reproachfully for letting ti get so cold out.

He’s a big dog who would be quite at home on a farm. He often just goes out and sits, doing dog-philosophising about stuff for 20 minutes. Seems to be missing his moment of zen.

I also had the skinny half of a slab o’ prime rib that was leftover from Christmas dinner.

Considering I make about the same on fewer hours, the company pays 100% of my (non UHC)healthcare premium, and I don’t get stuck on hour long conference calls, yep.

If we have an actual physical address for you, you’ll get it. Depending on how long your local Post Office took to sort it and put it on trucks, maybe even faster.

That photo makes me want to run out for eggs, bread, and milk. Even thought I have plenty of eggs, bread, and milk.
And it was apparently snowing on I40 earlier.

Because you took the last of the stock?

MetalMouse, she was actually very excited about getting her hair done. Daughter just caught that expression randomly. And both kids got to enjoy the wee bit of snow before it all melted. Much more on the way on Moanday. Theoretically.

We finished with The Tudors this evening. Henry was not a nice man. Nor was his eldest child, Bloody Mary. Now we need to find another series to watch. I expect there’s a few things on BritBox that will appeal.

But no more TV tonight. Read a bit then sleepy time.

It was a point of pride for Victoria that she was not descended from Henry VIII.

Yeah, that bloodline ended pretty abruptly.

Went grocery shopping yesterday and I thought it was busy. There’s a winter storm predicted. Forgot a couple items and went back today, and OMG it was hard to find a spot in the parking lot. Snow is supposed to start tomorrow evening and I keep hoping it won’t be as bad as it is predicted.
Walking a dachshund in 6" snow is not really possible. I’ll get a shovel, go out the back way and shovel a spot for yellow snow and for poo. Hope Mauser takes the hint. This afternoon I topped off the bird feeders outside my kitchen window.

You once said you didn’t think a Southern wedding was valid if it didn’t have cheese curls at the reception. I stilll have the recipe.

FCM, our ice is supposed to start tomorrow afternoon, and a lot of snow later.

We had to do this for Higgs one year. Pugs aren’t designed for navigating 12" deep snow. This time we just need to shovel our driveway, maybe. We’ll see what develops.

OK, time for sleepy-bye.

Nah, he’s even more broke than I am. Besides, he lives approx. 95 seconds away from me & we’re going to the same place anyway.

I’ve asked him for a coupla bucks when I drive him somewhere else, for one of his own errands…

He does plenty of little favors for me, too, when he can.

Gonna decompress for just a few more scant minutes, then I wanna head back out to Wal-Mart for a few things.
I’ll never get over them closing at 11 p.m. instead of being 24 hrs. :frowning: So inconvenient!

My house now looks like a wood shop exploded into it, which it basically did. I got routers and saws and sanders on all available surfaces, with one more bag o’ crap to unload. Plus all the stuff in the garage. Unfortunately, the garage needs a new roof, so I don’t want to store too much out there.

But good news, the local science museum is bringing me on for at least some temp work next week, with the possibility of it turning into something more permanent.

Hell, I had to do that for Cin a couple of times, and he was nearly 3’ tall. We occasionally get much snow up here.

I have to do this for Nelson too. Even though he’s a little taller than Mauser or Higgs, he’s still not cut out for more than a couple of inches of snow.

Yay!

I took one look at the puddling rain and noped out of my oncologist appointment. I go next Friday instead. She wants to do an additional blood test because she didn’t like the lab results. I’m trying not to be nervous.

My sister said maybe TPTB finally got alarmed at all the vacancies and authorized the manager to offer the 3% deal to anyone threatening to leave. That’d explain it.

After the first one, I found myself squinting against the lights in my bathroom, my kitchen, my classroom. And honestly, it was the easiest and least painful of all my eye surgeries. I can’t wait to see how well you see!

Ditto. After the sexual assault, I started getting panic attacks. I was in 9th grade and felt like a weirdo. Nobody ELSE looked like they were panicking. Then I realized two things: I didn’t look like I was panicking either, and if even 1 out of 100 other kids had panic attacks (and it was likely more like 1 out of 10), that meant there were 39 panicky others walking the halls. I wish I’d known the old Yiddish saying, “Never compare your inside to other people’s outsides.” Sticky, you are definitely not alone.

That’s why they’re called the wee hours.

Thanks for explaining about your BIL. His story is even sadder than I realized. As worried as you are about FCD, you must be proud of the brother he is and the son he was. {{{FCM and FCD}}}

Also, Roxy looks so grown-up in that photo! How short is her hair now?

Stay warm. We don’t want frozen Pipers!

Taters, thanks for the explanation. It’s still a fascinating story.

I’m glad you have!

That’s awful! Is it even legal? It’s not here in WA.

Me, too. I’ve been worried.

Yum!
