(Old) An Air of Finality in the last 2024 MMP

Oh my - and here I was getting salty about the fact that I have to go into the office on Monday and it won’t get above freezing! Having never lived anywhere far north, I just can’t comprehend trying to function in that kind of cold.

nellie good news on the reprieve!

Today must be the Day of the Dishwasher, as I am also about to start mine. About down with work for the day, and then a few errands to run, but otherwise today should be pretty relaxed.

I hope JtC and husband are okay - I think his heart procedure was scheduled for this week?

No, not alone in that at all. I’ve spent my whole life trying to survive those demons or get rid of them. My track record is better at surviving than chasing the demons out of my life. I’m mostly grateful for the surviving, although that can be exhausting some years mid-November to mid January.

The rest of your paragraph is the utter truth and vastly more eloquent and succinct than I could manage. Thank you.

It certainly does for me, about all kinds of things.

Thank you~I have to get through the pre-surgery interview at the hospital first and then a pre-op physical with my regular doc first. Chest x-ray and ekg, all that nonsense. That part should really be ok, I really like her and I’m picky about doctoring. Our hippie has been encouraging to me about the cataract surgeries, as has nellie, which is helping me be calmer about it.

Shopping is completed, except for a couple of 2-Liter Pepsi Zero’s, I was pretty well-stocked from the Pre-Xmas trip, so ‘only’ spent about $100 today. Will head off to swimming here in a moment then sloth is the only other ‘activity’ planned on.

I don’t have a bread maker or the inclination to get one, but that combination sounds so good…

Press on.

Just back from Aldi - OMG - you’d think a blizzard was on the way instead if a possible 5-6" (but probably less by Moanday, especially if it’s mixed with rain.) I only needed/wanted a few things and when I was done, there was an empty self-check register, so I was out in no time. Had it not been so crowded, I’d have looked at a few other things, but it just wasn’t worth the hassle. And even if we get that much snow, I’ve got plenty in the fridge and freezers and pantry to get us thru the day or two we might avoid driving.

Last load in the dryer is probably done - I’ll head down there in a minute. Meanwhile, it’s smelling really yum from the bread. I haven’t made this particular kind in ages, but I seem to recall that it was really good. Heck, all homemade bread is usually really good.

yes, monday as i remember. now i’m a bit worried.

It started like an ordinary day, even having the regular closed stuff and some school closed stuff on the 100 Slide. Remember m telling you about Surepost, where Brown pays the USPS to deliver a lot of packages? Well the contract expired yesterday. So every Surepost package that had a good physical address was gonna be delivered by Brown, and anybody getting it sent to the Post Office/P.O. Box, and didn’t have a good address on file got it sent back to the sender. Of course that meant thousands of extra packages that would just automatically rout to the trucks going to the Post Office now had to have data entry for us to deliver. So I got sent to the Mez to help, since it was a disaster. Of course out of ten work stations only 4 were fully working, one had everything working but the printer, and one had everything working but the scanners. So I wasted 20min just finding the semi working station, and spent more time breaking jams than tying in all the tracking numbers. Then I got sent back to the slide, because there was no one there, so it went FUBAR, and the Senior Clerk had to come help me get it down. And just when I got it down, they sent hundreds of packages to the 100 and 200 slide to correct. Long story it was such a mess, I get to work tomorrow. Yay me!.

Frozen solid.

Well well well. So Meijers has strawberries on sale. 99 cents. This works.:strawberry::strawberry::strawberry:

So what? It’s not like you have a life or anything, right? I bet it still beats your retail jobs.

FCD just got back from the dermatologist. He was given a referral to an infectious disease doctor for his MRSA - seems strange the other derm he saw didn’t do the same. He also found out the “things” on his face were nothing to worry about - just “things” that start cropping up after you’re 40-ish. I kinda guessed that but now we know for sure.

Guess who’s getting a haircut today?

I didn’t realize it was so long, but the curls are deceptive. Daughter says Roxy is really excited - she got shampooed and everything!

Laundry done. Bread almost done. Time to read.

It’s cold as hell here in western Mitten State, snow still twinkling down (we have full-blown lake effect snow now) but I have brushed off my car & even ventured forth earlier to the old-people diner up the street, for some chicken corn chowder & a hot turkey sammich with mashed N.O.T. and gravy.

So much beige. (Okay, the corn & minute carrot bits added the tiniest bit of nutrition color.)

So much starchy goodness.

So delicious. (My car smelled SO GOOD on the way home.)

Gotta pull on clean socks’n’undies now, scoop up Car(e)less Co-worker from up the block, and head the fuck on in for another day of fun and joy.

So that’s what’s happening to my stuff?

She hasn’t posted in a while. I sent her a P.M. but nothing back, yet.

My assumption is that she’s overwhelmed … but by what - caregiving, or worse - I do not know.

BBBoooo I’ll be  for you and all the medical personnel involved in your cataract surgeries for successful outcomes.

The Marsalis family are outstanding jazz musicians. I first became aware of Branford when he was the musical director for the Tonight Show. And of course, Wynton has many accomplishments, not the least among them that he was recognized as among the most gifted musicians at Juilliard, won a Pulitzer prize and was awarded the national Medal of Arts in 2005 and the National Humanities Medal in 2015.
Here’s more on this talented family:

Hubs had another bone marrow biopsy this morning; either the eigth or ninth, not even sure, I’ve lost track. After he’d been back for over an hour and a half, I asked for an update. The nurse came to get me a few minutes later. I asked him if there had been any issue since it took so long (longer than the other times). He said, No, we’ve just been chatting for the last 20 minutes or so. So, I had been getting a little worried in the waiting room while ‘the boys’ were having a couple of yucks.

Afterward we stopped at a place that looked inviting that had BREAKFAST and OPEN lighted signage. Went in at 12:10 and was told breakfast was over, the staff was prepping for lunch. We took a glance at the lunch menu and nothing spoke to Hubs so we went to Rhapsody which is a Hungarian restaurant. I had chicken paprikash with dumplings and when the waitress told us the specials, I knew immediately that Hubs would be having the perch.

A lot left to do today: laundry, dishes, Krogering, NuStepping but I want to finish watching my first soap and finish my cup of lemon zinger tea.

Aack, daughter called and said she’s sick so we have to postpone Hubs BD celebration. Oh well, he received a Birthday certificate from Tony Packo’s so I told him to take her once she’s well. I’ve been a number of times and besides, he’ll bring back a half dozen coneys and a bucket of chicken chili.

Thanks shoe. Being new to the MMP, I wasn’t sure what proper etiquette was, if it was okay to @ her, etc.

Got back from the supermarket. Jumbo eggs are $7.39/dozen.

I always save the pig skins from the ham hocks I use for New Year’s dinner (the meat goes into the beans and the greens). I’ve sliced them up, and am frying them for chicharrones.

IMO, the Fairy Chats should put down their feet and very firmly say NO to any such suggestion.

Couldn’t have said this any better myself.

And now I really need to get busy with chores, etc. TTYL and stay warm!

I sent her a message as well. I am hoping for the best possible outcome.

Currently I am waiting for my sautéed veggies to cool down so that I can continue making my (vile and disgusting) meatloaf. Er, rather, I mean my delicious meatloaf that I am making for MusicMan to enjoy whilst I enjoy something else! I don’t mind making foods for him that he’ll eat and I won’t since I am so very picky!

I’m pretty sure no one can force us to take him in - he’s 65, fercryinoutloud, and FCD is his emergency contact, not his keeper. But, no, he will not be living with us. He and his caseworkers can figure it out if it comes to that.

Supper tonight is forage. We’ve got the yummy bread I made, leftover meatloaf, sammich makin’s, eggs for scrambling - we’ll figure something out, together or separately.

I just finished de-ashing the pellet stove. It’s a lot easier to do if I do it frequently, and I’ve cleaned it often enough that it just takes 10 minutes or so. It’s already fired up again and the room will be warmer shortly.

FCD and I will make the trek across the bay some day after Moanday. I’m glad he saw the sanity in not trying to drive in snow and sleet. I know he’s a Detroit and Indianapolis boy and has driven in worse, but the other people on the roads around here are not necessarily so skilled. We don’t need anyone else hitting our new car… again… Whew!

I know. That’s half the reason I was asking. I was actually wondering about the -30 figure.

An excellent series! I’ve read them all. I do wish he’d written one more, though. My favourite SF series is the John Grimes stories, by A Bertram Chandler, and he “borrowed” Flandry for one of them; I’d like to see the story from Flandry’s viewpoint. It’s a parallel worlds story, with Grimes and his wife, a second Grimes with his wife (a woman who’d been his love interest in some of the earlier books), and Flandry all meeting up together.

I spent almost three years in Scotland, which is pretty far north – if I’d travelled due west from Dunoon I’d have ended up in Hudson Bay – but its weather is affected by the Gulf Stream; Wiki says the record low for Glasgow is only 5.4F/-14.8C.

I went out to the Midwest two years ago for my 50-year high-school reunions (one in Michigan, one in Illinois, conveniently sked one week apart). Saw most of the people I wanted to see and none of those I least wanted to see, and was surprised by how few remembered me.

Currently 35F/2C here. Predicted highs in the mid 30s, lows in the low 20s, and lots of clouds through Tuesday night, with a 30% chance of snow Wednesday. Not planning to go outside except to feed/water the rabbit and maybe make an urgent trip to the store, if needed, before then.

It has begun:

In just time time it took me to get these posted, the amount on the ground appears to have doubled. But I don’t care - we don’t have anywhere to go tonight.
