(Old) Another lost great idea in the MMP

Youse were all with me in spirit~tater’s post really fired me up-no way I wasn’t going and standing right in front.

Mi Esposa pointed out that not everyone there was from Bellingham. Fair point; we’re in Birch Bay. Close enough though, and still a good turnout.

Home to stay for the night, The 4pm game was not well-organized, but we worked though it and the kids got their 60 minutes of soccer and I got exercised. Have eaten the usual Big Bowl Fettuccine and some carrots and pudding for dessert and am settling in to do some serious slothing. The rain is due here between 8-10pm and will stick around almost all night and into Sunday morning. At least it will cool down the temperatures some.

FCM. the bimini looks bitc… real, real good.

Thanks to all who represented at various protests today; I was doing my thing with the kids at soccer so couldn’t go, but glad we had a good representation from the MMP.

And that’s all for now.

I was at work till just now, but I did promise BOO I’d share two more of her pictures.

This was early on, the crowd doubled by the time I left (when my oxygen battery was running out). Next time I’m gonna bring my cane to lean on and help me up and down the curb. Then there’ll be Jane the Cane and Boo the Cane womanning the barricades.

The face of courage:

… plus et. al. companionship:

Honeys, I’m home! Oh, my, my, my, my! I was STUNNED at how many people attended. The estimates I heard were 10,000. The woman sitting next to me on the capital steps came drove 75 miles. There was one in her area (Hood Canal), but she thought it’d be small. I confess I choked up when I got there because I was so relieved by how many of us were there, including veterans groups and Republicans.

Some of the signs: “We veterans are NOT suckers and losers!”
“Pro America, anti-Trump.”[A photo of a disgusted-looking cat]: “Elon Musk is a hairball.” “I’ve seen smarter cabinets at IKEA!” [On a large dog]: “Pet me, not billionaires!” “I can’t fit all my rage on this sign!”

The speakers were good, and the Baptist minister was GREAT!

The march, itself was somewhat disorganized. Olympia seldom gives marches permission to march in the streets, and some marchers went north, some south, etc. LOTS of cars honking in support, though!

I thought of all of you while I was there, plus my parents. (Dad was a compassionate conservative who voted GOP 98% of the time. Trump would have sickened him.) I’m very glad I went and grateful that I live in a country with the right to assemble peacefully. My daughter went to the march in Spokane.

Saluting all patriotic Americans who marched, even in spirit, especially flyboy, Boo and JtC.
Taters, sending you huge hugs. I’ve been wondering how you’re doing. I’m so, so sorry about your situation. Boo said what I would have but so eloquently! I can’t help thinking that any reasonably intelligent person knows your worth and appreciates it. We Mumpers do love you VERY much. {{{{{Taters}}}}}

Oopsie, you’re clearly the Queen of Greater Legoland!

I keep all the stuff my kids will need in a red folder in my desk drawer: phone number for donating my body to science (which kids also have in their phones), living will, medical POA, will, funeral plans, etc. The kids know all this. They don’t know about the notes I left in the folder thanking them. I admit that I cried as I did the funeral plans because I kept thinking how hard this will be on my kids emotionally. You’re not alone in how you’re thinking, FCM. I don’t know if that helps.

Couple of empanadas in the oven, plus one (1) garlic knot.
Cuz Korean/Spanish fusion plus a bit of highly Americanized Italian is, really, the kind of “come-together” spirit I think we need.

My favorite so far.

Gonna need a bit of aloe vera for that burn, tho.

You go too! Thanks for showing up. I’m hearing that we have been noticed a little.

Coffee. Flock, we’ve forgotten to stock up on that. Life will really suck with out it so thanks for the reminder.

Exercise those kids, make them learn how to get along with others. We need healthy cooperative young people to take care of us in our dotage, thanks for taking one for the team.

The most amazing part of this is that despite what king ketamine says, this whole movement is all organic. Everything is kinda unorganized when it is just a whole bunch of fed up people agreeing to show up because their online friends suggested it. Ain’t none of us getting paid to be there.

I’m starting to see things show up on my media feeds, nothing on Fox yet, but that isn’t terrible surprising.

nellie I’ve got tears in my eyes at what you all did today. I can only hope our dolts in charge take heed of what the scary women with canes, and the rest of us, want.

Longish day. Between getting out late, being the first hot hot day of the work year, and being mostly on the table, I was exhausted, so I skipped the protest this time. Short nap, but up having a Sazarac, and watching the Canes get blown out.

Lego has this kit, and since I have my old Tyco slot car track, I might order it and combine them. After I buy a table for them.

I take great comfort in knowing for one in my life, it’ll be somebody else’s problem.

:+1:

They stopped showing the stock ticker. Ignorance is bliss.

Bless you. Oo! I forgot! One of the events at the rally was a group called The Raging Grannies. They wore hats with flowers on them and got the crowd singing along with their enraged song. The best speaker was the minister of a Baptist church. He really got the crowd whipped up.

I’m so encouraged by what I see on the news. The NYT said the protest in NYC filled 20 blocks. This is what democracy looks like!

I wish I’d read the MMP before going. I’d have carried Taters in my heart. I was in a rush because I wanted to walk to the garden center to get fuchsia. It’s changed owner. It used to be the Bark & Garden. The first time I went there–and sorry if I’ve said this before–I really thought it was a combo garden store and dog rescue. I was disappointed to discover the truth.

Altogether, I walked over 7 miles today plus cheered my lungs out. I’m wiped.

I know you miss your gleaning program back in AZ, but another way to help keep food out of landfills is checking out grocery outlets. You do have to check dates on things and rotate your stock at home more regularly, but the beans were $9.99 for 24 oz and a decent name brand.

Hooray for our Mumper protesters! I am going to take cue from JtC and BBBoo and take my cane or hiking stick next time (I’m having hip issues that make walking far painful right now).

It’s storming to beat the band out right now. A couple of thunderclaps were violent enough to rattle the walls and set off car alarms. The hall closet is cleared and a folding chair, flashlight and harness / leash for Nelson at the ready just in case.

nellie, thanks for the story.

And that’s about all the energy I have left. Need to make the final athroom stop and head off to bed, the rest of the you tubes can wait for tomorrow.

Catch y’all then.

It’s days like today that make me wish Discourse had a “like” button. To all the amazing Mumpers who got out and made your voices heard, THANK YOU!!

I only hope someone is listening.

I’m really pissed at myself. It was cold, windy, and my hip is hurting. So I neglected showing up at the Capitol rally in Topeka. Turns out that tons of people were not weak like me and did protest. If and when there is another rally I will be there. I hope fellow Dopers who were strong will pardon me. Here is a link to the Topeka rally.

Be pissed at those who deserve it. You do not. Take care of yourself first.

I saw pictures of the protests close to my parents home - it’s impressive to see how widespread the protests were.

I’m always happy when I find coffee beans at the grocery outlet. At least here they are usually months out from the best used by date.

Woke up this morning feeling achy and been getting worse as the day goes on. I seem to have a cold. No fun. Need to get some things done, but I don’t have a lot of energy, so I’ll hold down the couch for a bit.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 85 mostly cloudy and windy. Rain is expected late tonight and tomorrow. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Chalice duty, followed by first Sunday brunch. The poke roast in the slow cooker is smellin’ nummy. The afternoon will be devoted to high RDOS Inactivities.

Thanks to all who protested yesterday. If nothin’ else maybe this will make some of the congresscritters take note.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Great job, protestors!

I hope you’re not one who tosses items at the “best by” date. My sister thinks it’s an expiration date. As I understand it, that date means the manufacturer will only guarantee that by that date, it’s still “perfect” or whatever the term is, but it’s only because that’s how far their testing extended. For all they know, it could be years after that, but they didn’t bother testing to see when it degrades. I’ve used canned goods 2 years past that date and they were fine. Yes, I did a serious sniff test first and checked for furry growths. But not my sister. Into the trash it goes. Which gives me grrrrrrrrs.

Even if they notice, will they have sufficient spines to stand up to the Orange Menace and the Man with the Money? Then again, only a few have to align themselves with the side of sanity.

We’re meeting Daughter et al at IHOP for breakfast before heading to their house to install the mini-split. I don’t really like IHOP - they do Pepsi instead of Coke, so I’m having my Diet Coke now and I’ll drink water there. And I’m taking the pot o’ sloppy joes for our lunch. And that’s the big plan of the day. Rain promised this afternoon, so with luck, the outside installation will be done before it starts falling.

Onward! Happy Sunday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and sunny. Weather app says “If this weather was ice cream, it would be fucking Cherry Butthole Surprise. Might be delicious, or not. The fucking verdict is still out.” Looks nice out there, and it was quite pleasant when I went out to put a bag of rubbish in the bin.

{{{{{Taters}}}}} I am so sorry, it hurts my heart to read so much pain in your posts. You have done, and continue to do, an amazing job in such awful circumstances. I hope your planner can offer some crumbs of hope and a bit of brightness for you. Please remember to take care of yourself, we need you!

Good for you! I hope you and all the protestors have/had a safe and productive day.

Hurrah! I’m glad it was an easy process once you’d unblocked the international transaction thing

Thank you for sharing, it is heartening to see and hear that so many are turning out to protest.

Fabulous! Must be a good week for finally getting the kitties to realise we are not the enemy!

Yes, you deserved a reward for being productive. That and the preventative measures for scurvy and malaria sound like a great way to finish the day. Hope you both enjoy brunch Sunday.

Don’t be - you need to take care of yourself so that you’re fit for the next protest, and the one after that. I’m sure you were with them in spirit, and people are still bombarding their representatives with emails and calls, if you’re doing any of that, then you’re still making your voice heard.

Busy but fun day yesterday for me - we tended to the needs of the Small Egyptian Gods, then headed into town for food before going to KK’s for round 2 of Mayor’s Fest. It was a great afternoon/evening of music, we caught up with some friends, had a long discussion with a guy who’d come over from Dublin for the festival, and even got to meet the Mayor herself!

We dipped out in the evening and went over the road to Jack’s for some food. The guy who seated us said the wait would be around an hour but we were ok with that. We’d picked a part of the night with a band neither of us cares for, and the auction part that we weren’t interested in so we knew we’d got plenty of time. Food was delicious, and the guy who came to clear the table apologised again for the wait and said he was really pleased we hadn’t been bothered by it - apparently someone else had been there earlier and made a proper fuss about having to wait 20 minutes.

Fortified with curry, we were back just in time for the headline band who are off the scale energetic. Afterwards we decided to stick to our plan of coming straight home rather than going to the Giffard because we all know how that ends…so we were home by midnight. Gave the cats food and treats, gave Muffin an extra helping of treats so we can be sure she’s eaten something.

She is still in her corner, still hissing and growling. Today I moved some stuff out from that area and pulled the small shelf unit back a bit so there’s more room behind it. She wasn’t happy about that, but it means I can sit on the floor there and fuss her without leaning over her. We moved the carrier that she arrived in and replaced that with a cat bed and the blanket from the carrier as that came from her home. So far, she’s still not moved out of the corner but I’m hoping she will venture out for food at some point.

Quiet afternoon in the house for us, then the last part of Mayor’s Fest tonight at the Giffard. I’m driving us into town this time so it’ll be a soft drinks night for me. 'im indoors is back at work tomorrow, I sensibly took the day off as I’ve got stuff I need to do. I’m sure irk can survive without me for another day. And I’ve just bought our early bird tickets for next year!

Good morning. Up-ish. Caffeine acquired. 43 and soggy outside. Guess what? It might rain later! Yay.

After coffee and breakfast, I’ll be off to sing for Jesus (choir #3). Then home for lunch and maybe a quick nap before off to a concert with choir #1.

Older cat spent the whole night either on me or next to me. She doesn’t usually do that. She never got along all that well with her brother, but I think she’s feeling lonely.
