So I suppose the moral of your story for today, anniversary aside is
When life hands you cat vomit, make a feast. Hmmm?
FYI I slept for shit too, and with no particular identifiable cause.
Today is packing day for me, and early to bed to arise tomorrow at 0330 to launch off for Mazatlán. So as much as I’d like a nap to recover from last night, here at 11am it’s already probably too late for that.
Cheers all; let’s hope the world doesn’t play too many unfunny pranks on us all today.
Yay for happy Fishy! Hope the collar removal goes well.
FCM I’m looking forward to hearing about more boat trips. Can’t believe somebody parked in your slip. Sheesh.
Sticky_Buns, glad to hear your side/hip/back is feeeling better and Annie won’t starve.
I’ve never had a dog of my own, but I have the impression that anything called dog training is equally divided between the dog and the owner. Sounds like there’s a lot of progress.
Cookie, I wish you and your beloved a very happy anniversary and hope the dinner goes well.
I think someone changed my named to Joe Btfsplk. For the second time in two weeks, we got hailed on during our walk. Looking at the weather forecast in the morning isn’t enough - we need to look at the weather radar just before setting out. That’s what we get for living near mountains.
At least we don’t have the Sahara dust in our area. There’s some wild pictures of orange skies in other parts of Switzerland.
And due to yesterday’s time change (Europe changes at the end of March), I slept in until 7:45. Not good, since tomorrow’s a work day and I have to get up two hours earlier. I do like the evening light, though.
A happy anniversary to cookie and a tricksy Moanday to all!
Real_Fish, it’s good to see a positive update about your dad and your own recovery! I’m glad he’s in a safe place while you all decide what the future will look like. And while I don’t know how your specific kid is, when my own perfect and capable younger daughter was 15, she was busy not doing homework and just scraping by in her classes. Nagging and micromanaging did nothing for us except make life more unpleasant, so we turned and she did make it through fine in the end. Talking to her now about that time, I’ve realized that the health crises of grandparents and parents had more effect on her than we realized and at the same time her older sister had just moved away for college. Your son may be more affected than you think by all the things you’ve been going through. Maybe he’ll decide to turn it around for himself once he sees you’re giving him the responsibility.
It’s kind of nice you’re not in charge of them as well, isn’t it? I keep making plans for unrealistic trips and then backing out of them when it becomes obvious how much of a pain they would be. Maybe Aunt will do the same.
I hope the fence installation goes smoothly, Taters. It’s not fair that you should have to bear the burden of keeping other people’s dogs in their own yards, but it’s a small price to pay for not having to deal with the crappy neighbors!
It’s amazing how good the pros are at it! Theory is one thing, but a challenging dog needs a trainer who is at an expert level to start. We had a border collie who was too smart for anyone’s good, and the trainer we found was a godsend.
It’s a rainy, overcast day here in the desert, and we’re planning to take full advantage of it by doing nothing! I might bake something, since it’s a great day to have the oven on.
Afternoon (well, it will be when I’m done with this). Only two things to pick up from the store so got to Jersey Mike’s about 5 minutes after they were due to open…and they weren’t and didn’t look organized enough to be opening soon, so went to another of their stores that opened recently which is actually closer to my house, service was so-so but the sammich was good, so we’ll see. the 40-something lady who was a fixture at my regular place has been missing for a couple of weeks, which might explain why the youngn’s didn’t open on time.
So I overdid had TWO bags of chips and a large REGULAR PEPSI (with refill), so we’ll see the results on the scale in a few hours, I imagine. Then came home and checked my annunities, glad to say both increased in value despite the monthly payouts, so that was cheery news. Sometime this week I need go get my planned vacation done (Looks like trains, planes and automobiles, may be in some of you folks neck of the woods in June).
Need now to digest and then see how the new swimming trunks fit before heading off to my backstroking.
rocky, real cloudy here too, rain isn’t expected until tomorrow though.
Coppertone, I had to try logging in a couple times until it started for me, so guess there was a hiccup.
Pilot, happy travel.
Dicey getting caught in the rain is supposed to be romantic (if you believe the Pina Colada song), but being caught in the hailstorm is just plain awful.
Legend, good advice from one who’s lived it.
OK, need to do a couple things around the house and then head for the swimming place. Good afternoon all…
It sounds like things are getting better for many Mumpers which is great to hear.
Currently we are at the ER vet with VBC. She has lost two pounds and can’t breathe when she is laying down. The poor girl is exhausted and dehydrated. I’m so worried.
Cookie, Happy Anniversary!! Cats really do know how to celebrate, don’t they?
RealFish, I’m both glad that your dad is out of the horsepistol, and sorry for your burden of having to be a caregiver. I know many people don’t consider it a “burden,” but in all honesty - even when taken on lovingly and willingly - that’s what it is.
My brothers and I took care of our dad at the end, and the emotional and physical toll was significant. I advocated for bringing in hospice sooner, but was outvoted. When everyone else finally got on that page and we called them, he passed away before their first visit.
I guess my point is, don’t feel bad about getting help. It doesn’t mean you love him any less.
BtY kind of sounds like me at that age. I drove my parents nuts with my lackadaisical attitude toward schoolwork. Hell, even as an adult I made plenty of mistakes. I survived and he will too.
Yanker, your dad sounds like a good-hearted person. Tough to see him get taken advantage of. It’s possible his housekeeper’s family’s financial issues are not merely self-inflicted, but entirely fabricated. You might be wise to do a little investigating.
I’m not retired yet, but due to changing life circumstances, it’s not always necessary to know the date all the time. I knew March was ending and a new month beginning, but wasn’t sure which day it was falling on. And somehow, April 1 just didn’t register as “April Fools Day” when I did look. Just another day. I suppose I should be on the lookout for fake news stories and such, but I doubt anybody’s going to try to prank me.
I got offered a two-week job in Indianapolis later this month. And the Indians (AAA baseball team) will be in town over the weekend, so I’ve already got plans for Saturday night! If it were a week earlier I’d be able to see the eclipse, but oh well. I wasn’t planning on seeing it anyway.
JtC prayers offered for VBC. Please keep us posted.
I’m having a bit of a one sided tiff with Ariel’s barn. They do not know I am peeved. I cannot get to my tack trunk because they have allowed people to store all matters of cr@p in the room. I am going to put my emergency backup trunk in front of her stall which we technically aren’t supposed to do but nobody pays attention to that rule.
Boat is moved. But we gave an electrical problem on the AC side - when I plugged into shore power, it tripped the breaker. So we’ll be chasing ground after we install a galvanic isolator. Always something…
By the time we finished at the marina and grabbed a burger, it was drizzling and ick out so I won’t be gardening today. MIL had leftover pizza for lunch and she’s napping again. I’ll be taking her to get a haircut on Weds. So I have that to look forward to.
I did put my spider plants outside so Mother Nature will water them. I guess that counts as getting something done.
Happy Monday! May all the toffee you’re offered be candy and not “snakes”.
My plan yesterday was to spend Easter on my balcony to enjoy the dappled shade and the birds. However, the people who are working on the fence around the property were hammering all day. Yes, on Easter Sunday. It was the same recumbent section of fence they’d hammered all of Saturday, and very near my balcony. I was tempted to shout The Book of Armaments at them: “O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.”
I’d say intervene a lot. It’s his money, but it sounds like he’s just beginning to realize–thanks to you–that he’s basically getting scammed.
Congrats on the dog training! It sounds like it’s well worth the money. A well-trained dog is such a joy!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, COOKIE!
I like this but have no idea what it means. “Carole’s ascot” sounds like a nice cocktail, though.
Real Fish, congrats to your daughter! Is she done with school now? I hope she won’t have to contend with issues there.
Wow, just saw photos, and you’re not kidding! It’s surreal.
JtC, my fingers are crossed for VBC. I hope it’s something easily treatable.
Thank you, 3 hours and 1500 dollars later…and we still don’t know what is wrong, just that something serious is going on. Cats aren’t meant to stay awake all night panting and they get really sick if they don’t eat or drink. She’s getting IV fluids and a full body x-ray now. Nobody really thinks her lungs are involved but if we don’t figure something out, she won’t be coming home. She is suffering and we won’t bring her home to suffer until she dies at home, that just wouldn’t be good for anyone.
GG is very subdued. When we got home he was very small on our bed so I brought him into my room and he is being very small on that bed too.
Happy Anniversary, Cookie! I hope your kittie is doing better today and that you have a great dinner.
It is rainy here as well, we both are laughing a little about having dry roads all the way back east, but having weather issues here in the desert! My baby mulberries are starting to sprout leaves, the lavender bush is greening up and the pomegranate is growing red leaves.
Our yard is greener than I’ve ever seen it, but that’s not a good thing, the weeds are trying to take over and it’s too wet to swing my hoop rake around. I’m super stressed, killing weeds would probably be very therapeutic. (I speeled that right the first time! Go me!)
Oh yeah, I get that. The thing that really upset people was that I am excellent at taking tests that don’t include spelling so passed with low A’s. Pissed many folks off back then.
She has a large mass pressing against her heart. Much more involved, but we are heading back to tell her goodby. I’m so glad I have hubs to drive, he won’t start crying until we get home
