(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

Most people who know her will believe her anyhow, it’s the ones in the grocery store and the library and Angela in accounting who won’t believe her and will deserve any lie she makes up.

It’s definitely a thing here in Ohio. Autumn is the busiest time of the year in Hocking Hills, primarily due to the influx of leaf watchers.

I suggest she try this line:

See these stiches? I got ‘em killin’ the last chick who suggested I was beaten by some stupid man. Not a chance.

Wanna be next, Sweetie?

Evening all. Swimming was done (1200 yards today) and soccer coached, then attended a Bored, I mean Board meeting for the soccer region, so the Whataburger was not procured for dinner until 7:45pm. It has been assimilated and I am catching up on my notes here and soon will retire to the bedroom with the NY Times to await sleepage.

Oh, one more thing; got a envelope in the mail with a survey from the “Faith and Freedom Coalition” who are trying to register 9,000,000 new “Christian” voters to toss out those evil and sinful Bidenites. I usually ignore these (the ACLU will send me some surveys too) as they are all weighted to bring about the answers they want, but…I couldn’t resist. Filled in all the ‘wrong’ answers (even when I was a bit ambivalent on the question) and in the donation area I put $0.00 and the comment “Not one red cent, ya idiots”. Rather doubt I will get anymore correspondence from them…

Pilot, saw your retirement notes in the Aviation Thread, welcome officially to the club. Enjoy it, but do find some activity to keep you busy, or lovely wife may consider homicide after a few months of having you constantly underfoot…

FCM, a naked toddler running through the halls laughing is one of the joys a lifelong bachelor like me will never have…enjoy it while you can

JtC, enjoy the trees wherever they end up at.

Hippy, glad younger daughter is not hurt too badly and appropriate appendages crossed that no scarring occurs. She can always say “you should see the three muggers…”, but I also like Pilot’s comeback.

nellie, glad no permanent damage was done, but I’ll say what shoe would be saying, which is “BE CAREFUL, DAMMIT”. We’d kinda like you healthy and whole with us here on the MMP. Please?

I trust in that case we would have been taking up a collection for Bail money??

OK, have to finish up the evening internettin’ then me and the NY Times will head off to bed. Take care all.

I live the closest~about an hour away. I volunteer!

You’all can Venmo or Zelle me money and I’ll wisk it up to The Big O (Omaha).

thanks all
;o)

FCM, gotta agree with MetalMouse on the naked toddler marathon being a joy. Plus he’s adorbs! I’m so impressed that he then tries to dress himself!

I’m so embarrassed. I looked in the mirror just now and realized I must have had a bloody nose earlier. Gross. MetalMouse, I’m still kicking myself for not being more careful. SO stooooooopit.

I’m really sick of talking about my knee so much on here. My goal for tomorrow is to be a Knight Who Doesn’t Say Knee.

Napped iwth Spot, had a cheeseburger with an Old Fashioned. Watching the Syfy Dune.

Spot is a he. But I think the neighbors would prefer I not wear my birthday suit again.

Glad the kid’s gonna be OK, hippie

Sounds appropriate for a first retirement day.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

It does crack me up - the look on his face sells it. And as an aside, I’ve been changing this boy’s diapers since he was born, and I have yet to experience a shower. In the early days, I kept a cloth at the ready, but then I just didn’t bother. Gotta wonder if it’s because he’s not circumcised or if he’s got incredible self control. Yeah, I know, TMI blah blah blah

SIL got word last night that his dad died. His dad was abusive and his mom divorced him long ago. Daughter met the man once and SIL has never had anything good to say about him. I think he was really conflicted because he wanted a father he could look up to and admire, and he didn’t get anything close. He doesn’t have much of a relationship with his stepfather either (FCD says the man is a bit of a jerk.) And now he’s gone, not too long after SIL’s grandmother died. Daughter said last night, he just escaped into his video basketball game.

I managed to hack another big mat off Ziva last evening. I have to sneak up on her with the scissors, then get a firm grip on the mat (they’re pretty big) and hold on while I cut as close to her body as I dare. She doesn’t try to bite, but she pulls away and yells the whole time. The pulling away is good - it keeps the mat and the scissors clear of her skin. Then as soon as it breaks free, she’ll run away, then turn around and come back. Weird cat.

We’ve got a cooler front coming thru tonight/tomorrow, then temps seems to settle in the 70s for highs and 50s overnight - I foresee windows being opened. I may even wash the outsides! Despite the yard filling with leaves, YAY for AUTUMN!!!

Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for later this afternoon. We shall see. The big items on today’s agenda are another doc appointment at ten a.m., and the bug guy is comin’ at one-thirty this afternoon. Oh, and It’s laundry day. The fun of it all just never ends today at da cave! It’ll take some plannin’ to squeeze in the appropriate amount of sloth, but I shall perservere. Sup shall be, well, I don’t know what to call it 'zactly. It’s cabbage, onions, rotel 'maters, and ground beast all cooked together. I can’t remember the name of it and there is a recipe, but I don’t use it anymore, so who knows where it even is. Anywho that and cornbread are tonight’s sup.

Are they still talkin’ about that? I would’ve thought they would have long been over it, especially after the incident with the duck and the skate board at Waffle House.

Pilot I’m glad you made it home safe. No doubt you were quite happy to see yourself home, safe and sound.

Nellie YIKES! Glad the knee was not badly injured. Hope you’re feelin’ better today. I buy Stouffer’s frozen lasagna. It tastes the most like for real lasagna of all the others imo. I used to make my own, but since I am now a retired drain on society, I just don’t anymore.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother once again, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Two days in a row! Why is life bein’ so cruel!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Glad the knee is okay!

Mornin’ all. Up pre-dawn and balconatin’ in the warm & still. I’m dressed for the beach. Working through my coffee now and as soon as the sun gets high enough, like after a couple more posts, I’ll be off for my dose of vitamins UV & SW. Her Ladyship yet slumbers.

{{Nellie}} I’m real glad you’re as uninjured as you are. Coulda been worse. Not great luck, but good-enough luck I suppose we can say. Why are you embarrassed about a bloody nose that nobody but the cats saw? The furry ingrates weren’t even polite enough to tell you.

Just think: in 20 years when he joins the Dope, those of us still compos mentis enough to post can tell him all about his excellent self-control. Like sharing infant bear rug pix with the high school BF/GF, it’s a rite of passage. Or a hazing; not sure which.

Good morning!

It’s 52F, dark and cloudy outside at the moment. The expected high is 72F, and it’ll be mostly cloudy. Sunrise is at 6:42 a.m. and sunset is at 7:26 p.m., and that is just another sign that fall and winter are approaching.

hippie, I’m so sorry to read about your daughter’s injury. I’m glad she’s okay and hope there isn’t any scarring.

nellie, I’m glad you’re okay too! But geeze woman! I worry about you. Please take care of yourself.

I don’t specifically go on trips for leaf peeping. We have lots of trees around here and I can enjoy their beauty at any time. It is often nice to take a drive round these parts, or up in the mountains to watch the color changing up on the slopes. Hiking and look for the larches is a big thing among hikers in these parts. Western Larch They look really nice with the huckleberry and blueberry bushes that are turning red on the hillsides.

As I reported on Sunday, my son’s move to the new place went well. He reported yesterday that he was already feeling less stressed and sleeping well. Besides the druggy transients wandering around the street at his former residence, he had a crazy next-door neighbor who screamed obscenities at everyone and always seemed to be on meth. I’m so glad this source of stress is gone for my son. I swear, my descriptions make it sound like he lived in some tenement area, but he didn’t. He just had the misfortune to live across the freeway from the old brewery, which the homeless used to camp out in. Behind my son’s former rental house was a residential area, a mix of very nice to middle-class homes. So, very weird.

Back to the salt mines today; I had yesterday off. I’m sure my email will be endless today, especially since I was out on Friday for my RDO.

I suppose I should finish my coffee and get the dishwasher running. It’s mostly loaded, need to add a couple of things and then I can run it.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a delicious 16c/61f with a predicted high of 17c/62f, and cloudy. Weather app is displeased and reports that “It is fucking overcast and shitty outside.” To be fair, it’s definitely overcast but so much cooler and pleasant. I had to go and haul the biiiiiiig bin out for collection (it was raining), and then haul it back again after it was empty (not raining). That’s as much going outside as I plan on doing today.

Groceries were acquired last night, and the few bits I forgot aren’t that important so they can stay forgotten until the weekend when I am next likely to be near a grocery shop. My uni friend was complaining today that the trains have heating on (and no windows open) so I’m hoping that’s not the case when I have to trek to campus tomorrow. Even worse, we’re all being asked to do four days on site instead of three for the next couple of weeks as it’s Welcome Week and first week of teaching.

nellie hope the knee is looking a bit better today, it’s good to know that you survived relatively unscathed though.

Pilot good to know that your airline was just as happy to take fake-you home as real-you! And now retirement is peeking over your horizon, I hope you’re prepared for an adequate amount of sloth once you join the retired drains on society.

hippie glad to hear your daughter’s going to be ok, and hopefully the scarring won’t be too bad or too obvious.

Apparently it’s lunchtime, I have two cats giving me looks that say they need to be fed before I am the next menu item. Then this afternoon I have to update student hubs on our virtual learning site so I can publish bits of them later. Better get on and sort out mogs, otherwise they’ll all be complaining to 'im indoors when he gets back from being ’ im 'oop norf.

If I knew you better, I’d yell at you. I hope they put you on an antibiotic course. Be more carefuller!

Except even the nicest neighborhoods can have certain “elements” residing therein. We lived in a small waterfront community in FL where, 5 or 6 houses down from us, a woman paid two guys to kill her husband and make it look like a home invasion. They were all caught, especially when anyone with half a brain could see that someone intent on home invasion could have gone across the street to the house that sat alone on a large lot rather than the victim’s home which was tucked between two other houses almost within spitting distance. (The victim was boinking one of his daughter’s friends, which is why the wife sought revenge. In the end, the daughter lost both parents. Mom may still be in jail…)

Just back from a quick run to Food Lion. We needed 'nanners. I scored some poke in the used meat pile and it’s now in the crock pot with Sonny’s sweet BBQ sauce, soon to become pulled poke. SIL just texted that he’s on the way, so Tobias will be here soon. I need to do some laundry, but I might wait till tomorrow when it’s rainy, and take him outside today. Or not. We shall see.

For some reason, MIL is purging her pantry and freezer. Yesterday, she sent me a big tray of chicken legs. They could have made half a dozen meals for her and BIL. Her freezer isn’t overloaded. I don’t understand. And the other day she was offering me canned goods. As if they’d go bad. Also, the pantry is half empty. I think she’s starting to lose it.

Morning all. Got a little too much reading done last night, didn’t go lights out until after midnight so the 6:45am wakeup may presage nappage later. Not much on the agenda today, need to pedal off some calories this afternoon and coach the 7-year olds, might take a drive past the garage my car is at and see if it is in the service bays or not (they promised it would be). 73F heading to 85F with a 40% chance of tunder-boomers this evening.

FCM, not glad that SIL lost his Dad, but am glad that he did apparently get raised ‘right’ and makes your daughter a good husband (probably not a perfect one, but hey, you’ve adapted to FCD foibles… ) And Yeah! for cooler weather…we could use some of that down here.

Well, quit kicking yourself, you could fall again doing that and you’re having enough trouble as it is…

Taters, glad son is settling in, I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood (except for the )(*^&^ squirrels running across my roof) and it should help him out.

OK, need to check the usual morning sites and be about the day. All y’all take care.

I love how cool it’s getting at night. There are few things as delicious as snuggling under warm covers on a chilly evening. I’ve been lying here watching the sky lighten and listening to the birds start their day.

I read this as a mat had fallen on her.
My condolences to poor SIL. Grief must be more complicated when your parent was abusive. And it does sound like MIL is losing a marble or two. Also, what a story about that murder in FL!

I see your cats attended the Hannibal Lector School of Charm. I don’t want to know what they serve at class reunions.

hippie, I hope your daughter feels better today. You must be so glad her sister was/is there for her. You obviously raised those gals right!

OMG, I’ve walked through that neighborhood! I’m so glad your son is feeling less stressed. And I hope work isn’t too crazy after your day off.

I read a similar recipe in a church cookbook. It went by the unappetizing name of Garbage Casserole. I bet yours had a more enticing name.

Imaginary cats are rude like that. (I don’t have real cats. OK, I don’t have imaginary cats, either.) And alas, plenty of people saw my icky nose and Bride of Frankenstein hair: Uber drivers, waiting room denizens, bus riders. But thank you for the kind thoughts! Also, has it fully sunk in yet that you’re retired?

Oh, believe me, I’ve been yelling at myself. No antibiotics, just told to use rubbing alcohol on it after showering. Looking forward to it. The neighbors will think I have a cat that sings Wagner.

Ha! My sister has bad arthritis in both knees. I told her we should team up for a one-legged race. Here’s her exact reaction:  My other sister says it’s a good thing I laugh at my own jokes. People don’t appreciate us comedians, MM, so good thing we appreciate each other.

Thank you! You’re so sweet!
