Brown Shoes: Term for Naval Aviation folks
Black Shoes: Used to be for Battleship people, now used for all regular, non aviation-related sailors
Div Off: Division Officer, kinda a mid-level bureaucrat in uniform.
I trust ‘noobs’ and ‘hot mess’ are fairly well-known.
These days I write checks for donations and household expenses (like my water problems) but that’s all. When I make a large (car-like) purchase I’ll usually get a bank check issued directly from the bank. But that’s all.
Soccer has been practiced, I have one kid who is a headache, he doesn’t listen, won’t do what I ask, and while practicing will push and trip the other players while trying to get to the ball. He obviously has some issues, I am trying positive reinforcement along with some discipline and teaching by example, but he doesn’t seem to get it. Will keep working at it, kids can be a handful when you’re 72…
And getting later into the evening so will be heading off to bed soon. Have an 8:25am appointment with the Hearing center tomorrow to check out my 2-week progress with the hearing aids, then we’ll see from there. Catch all y’all tomorrow.
He called me one day and said “Uh, Chief, if you don’t mind, could you come over to my office to talk about some things?” I replied: "Goddamn it, Ensign, you’re the officer and I’m the enlisted man. When you need to talk to me you call and say “Chief, get your ass over here!” He sort of chuckled nervously and said “Okay, uh. . .Chief, get your ass over here.” My reply: “Nah, I’m busy” and I hung up on him.
Waves at you. Air Force, I spent three of my four years in Asia back in the 70’s and choose to be discharged in Hawaii because I could use my GI bill anywhere. I got my useless MLS there.
I was a happy floozy until AIDs became a thing so I got married to someone I met from a swinger magazine thirty five years ago. I was raised a Catholic so divorce was never a choice…murder? Well…
Retirement is wonderful. I looked forward to it for years and it is even better than I had thought it would be.
Now…ask me about our cats, LOL!!!
I think you should spend some extra time in your recliner with a trashy novel, but who am I???
Oh you know it! Especially because I’m fairly sure she’s going to go back into heat before she gets re-spayed. The local vet is really encouraging us to take her back to the operating surgeon which tells me that he’s not comfortable with the idea of cutting her open and poking around.
Le sigh.
When you have a motivated young man in hand, anything is possible.
Always look at the bright side!
I’m glad he wasn’t hurt, grrrrs at inattentive drivers.
You are a good DIL.
I’m so cracking up right now. Hubs was a USMC Gunny Sgt, he was large and in charge as well
Speaking of large and in charge a fly got in the house. GG and Jolene were both chasing it around when suddenly Jolene ran up GG’s back and then used him to launch high in the air. All four legs were slashing with claws out, her tail whipping for balance.
I’m sure the only reason she missed the fly was because I distracted her by laughing so hard.
Her sunflower e-collar arrived today and while it looks super cute on her, I’m not convinced that it will stop her from going after her stitches. I guess we will let the vet make that decision.
Hubs thinks we should go to Virginia for weed because I can buy more there. I still want to go to Ohio because I’ve never bought weed in OH before. Hubs is probably right though, there is no reason to risk making another trip in the winter because I’ve run out before my card was approved.
I don’t know what winters are like here. I don’t know how bad the roads will be so I’m being very cautious about planning for it. Things will be different next winter, I’ll know what to expect.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot is being a bitey insane snot since we let people into the apartment.
@Bob_Blaylock A friend got caught in the middle of a 3 car pileup in a JK. The Jeep was undamaged. The two cars looked like they had been crushed by a monster truck.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and mostly N.O.S. TWPTB say we will get rain tomorrow, Firday, and Sattidy. We shall see. Today I shall accomplish mowage whilst OYKW takes care of laundry. It’s a thrill a minute at da cave! We shall accomplish all this mornin’ and then spend the afternoon in RDOS inactivities. Sup shall be grilled poke chops, baby lima beans, Spanish rice, and rolls. Easy to make and tasty,
Bob glad that you were not hurt and that the damage to the Jeep is minor.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
It’s a brisk 53° in my back yard and probably close to that in our bedroom since I opened both windows last night. But the cool is good - especially today as our HVAC guy is coming to service both the house and the shop. The mini-splits in the shop are in the attic there - cool is better than hot in the attic.
I’m thinking I need to launder the curtains in the dining room and in this room, and maybe the ones in the living room, too. They’re probably all cruddier than I realize since I have no idea the last time I took them down. So that’s my big plan for the day.
Well that and straightening out things with Motor Vehicles. They’re about to fine us for canceling the insurance on the vehicle that was totaled. I don’t have the paperwork from the police or from GEICO, so once FCD is up, I’ll have to get him to dig it out. Otherwise, I’ll need to contact GEICO for a copy. For some reason, I can’t find the relevant email. Dammit. Or maybe it came via snail mail?
Have I ever mentioned that my brain goes strange places? It sure did this morning. I was on my tablet and came across an ad that included the word queen - not in reference to Freddy Mercury’s little band. Anyway, it reminded me of a guy I dated waaaaaay back in '73/'74 - I think I last saw him in '76 before I left San Diego. For whatever reason, he decided to refer to me as “my queen” - I don’t know if he was being flirty but I found it to be weird, bordering on disturbing. Why that should come back to me nearly half a century after I last saw him? For all I know, he’s died…
So, curtain cleaning, HVAC service, and maybe a run to the grocery store. Excitement abounds!
Morning all. Have a 8:30am appointment with the ENT folks, so of course was up by 6am. did my first Fall Season thing, turned the AC off when I went to bed last night and opened up the windows (they are screened) to keep the bedroom cool, this will remain the habit until it cools off enough outside to dispense completely with the AC. Except for the Ear Doc appointment, nothing much on the schedule, some swim time probably but we’ll see how the session goes.
Bob-B, that’s one impressive vehicle you have.
JtC, thanks for the continuing GG and Jolene stories, the catapulting Jolene is one for the memory books. And probably VA is the best weed choice, Ohio can wait. Winter will probably depend on how high up the hills you are, shouldn’t be that severe but the roads could get tricky.
Reminds me of an old joke, “If you have one large green ball in one hand and one large green ball in the other hand, what do you have?” Answer: complete mastery of the Jolly Green Giant
swampy, happy mowage day. Looks like Sunday may be my time for mowage.
FCM, good luck with the DMV. Gwico does most of their work with me over e-mail these days, so hopefully you can find the missing paper-irk. Ands it is amazing the things our brains hold onto, isn’t it?
Well, need to get tidied up and dressed appropriately for an office visit, so take care all and have a good Hump Day.
HVAC had to reschedule due to lack or technicians, so next Thurs. I’m showered and dressed and about to head to Food Lion for a few things. Curtains have been taken down - they’ll get washed when I get back.
I still write checks. At least one a week. I refuse to pay a 3-4% charge to use a credit card. On the flip side, my hospital doesn’t take checks as payment.
My headache left but the stomach thing still persists. I call it colic. I’ll get a random stomach ache for a day or so. Took CBD oil this morning so hopefully that will make it go away. In good news, it appears horses will be moved back to their own stalls. Ariel and I will be very happy.
Our local stone fruit orchard is awash in peaches, and I had several in the fridge. This morning I peeled and diced up four or five of them and am baking them in a casserole dish topped with a nice mixture of oats, brown sugar, flour, butter, and walnuts. It’s a peach crisp, and it’s starting to smell really good. I love a dribble of almond extract in stone fruit desserts.
Mr. brown is still abed. He had his flu and Covid vaxx yesterday and I expect he’s feeling like poop. We finally learned to not get our jabs on the same day, so that one of us can be sickly and the other one can function and take care of business. I laid in some Rao soup so he can have some for lunch if he’s still feeling feeble at noon.
I must do some grocery shopping today, so it’s time to make a list. I hope they have some small-sized chickens, because the last one I bought was too big and it was tough. I like them to be under three pounds, if possible. So I guess Trader Joe’s will be my target today.
Exhausting talks with my two sons yesterday. The eldest needed money so his son can finish his degree in mechanical engineering. The classes are so crammed that it’s almost impossible for a kid to finish in four years, and his scholarship won’t cover a 5th year. Because of other recent expenses, my son couldn’t cover the cost.
Youngest son is going through a nasty divorce. His wife, who left him to play house with someone else is really taking him to the cleaners. He has to come up with a large sum of money to placate her and her lawyer or they’ll take it to court where he will be anally raped by the state’s no fault laws. This means he has to clean out his 401, and try to find a bank that will give him a line of credit for some $80K. In the meantime, he’s got $77 in his checking account. I’ll be writing him a check next weekend.
Add all this to my daughter’s tax woes, and you’ve got a trifecta. Fuck!
And back from the NT, was a short visit, they asked how the hearing aids were working and I said great but the crumpling of paper is pretty loud so they made an adjustment and downloaded updates and that was that. Will see them in several more weeks for a checkup and then on a six-month schedule. So home and relaxing until first meal time and then will start getting organized for swimmin’ time.
wet one, hope they remember to put Ariel next to her BFF when they make the move. Hope Mr. Brown feels better, I’ve never had a poor reaction to shots, just a sore arm, but wise of both of you to spread them out among yourselves.
Cookie, I know you love them dearly, but there are times that being a life-long bachelor is not a bad thing IMHO.
Well, it seems the conditioner I’ve been using is actually shampoo. But its intensive repair so it actually worked like a conditioner. Weird. Nothing gets by me!
Not much today, bible study later.
normally it doesn’t get cold here til Thanksgiving
go army! its funny tho my dad a vet of 2 tours himself once told me if I decided to join (in order of his preference) I could join the USAF, army, and navy but not the Marines and if I tried or was talked into doing so to do so hed use every connection he had left to stop me from doing so
because while he respected their combat abilities most of the ones he came across were well crappy human beings, to say the least, although he blamed their training methods and the fact they were forced to have to take in some less-than-stellar people in the first place (edited and cleaned up version…)
