(Old) Be-Labor-ing a Point. An End of (Meteorological) Summer MMP

Regarding Army-Navy stuff, meh. Just like when I was at Purdue - in the whole time I was there, I attended one half of one football game. Just don’t much care.

On the other hand, my stairwell is looking fine!! The 99% dust-free cat littler must measure by weight, because there were 3 shelves, one window, and many bottles covered with dust. The Hospice aide recommended some pellet-type litter from Tractor Supply, so I’m going to try that.

I’m also cleaning under the sink and putting some of the extras in the stairwell since I’ve got space now. That should make it easier to find cleaning supplies, at least in theory. Also curtains are laundered, dried, and hanging in their respective windows.

FCD just left to check out the boat again. When I’m done with the last of the cleaning supplies, I shall assume the chill position for a while.

I also still write a few checks. Mostly for car repair and plumbing/medical bills but also a couple routine monthly payments. I carry my checkbook in my purse in case I do bills at work or get my car repaired.

I am not paying the extra credit card fees and I am loathe to set up phone payments as I tend to mess stuff up on small screens (bad vision/fat fingers).

Can’t believe your hospital won’t accept checks.

I’ve been known to make an unholy mess of setting up payments even on my desktop. A few months ago I tried to set up some auto pay settings and forgot about it and then wrote out checks. So I paid 3 separate bills twice that month. It’s mostly cleared up but there are still some quirks I managed to input. I’m working on it somewhat.

so maybe next year you’ll be able to actually sail in the boat? hopefully?

By next year, I hope all the boat work will be done. And assuming MIL doesn’t live that long, we might actually make the trip to Maine that we’ve discussed. Maybe. I dare not predict.

Stairwell and under-sink are organized and half a can of garbage has been dispatched. Curtains are rehung. Ice maker is making good ice. MIL is sleeping. I’m reclining. I think supper will be ham steak and cabbage.

But time for mid-day chillage.

lol you need a slow trip to one of the islands or even cuba …

I saw a crash yesterday on the commute home from Burien.

Mrs. L.A. says I take to long to tell a story, but I want to provide the details.

There was an RV towing a car that was camping out in the left lane for – I don’t know – seven miles or so. In Bellingham, he finally decided to move over. Between me and the RV/car, there was a full-sized pickup with a motorcycle in the back. I couldn’t see the actual crash because I couldn’t see around the RV. I heard it though, and I could see that it hit a black car. Everyone stopped, and then the pickup pulled around to the left. I followed.

There was a white car parked on the left side of the freeway. The shoulder narrows because the support for a large road sign on the southbound side of the freeway is in the middle of the freeway, and there’s a metal rail around it. (I forget what those rails are called.) The freeway itself doesn’t narrow, but you know how drivers are. Complicating the traffic is that there’s an onramp right there. It’s a popular place for crashing.

Anyway, the right-rear corner of the white car had been hit. The black car was rotated 90 degrees, with the front partially in the left lane. The RV hit it broadside. I did not see any airbags deployed.

As I said, I didn’t see what caused the crash. My first assumption was that the RV hit the black car as it tried to merge right. But after I saw the white car, I thought maybe the black car hit the right car, stopped, and then was hit by the RV. Another scenario might be that the RV hit the black car, and then the black car hit the white car. Given the part of the freeway where this happened, I’m leaning without evidence toward black car hits white car, then gets hit by the RV.

They won’t screw up the move back to their assigned stalls. The order is Red Wonder, Ariel, Bugsy. She is between her two boyfriends.

I just saw a commercial for a drain-cleaning company called Mr. Rooter.

Would Australians find that name amusing?

Huh? I have no idea what this means. I prefer math.

My only problem is Prisoner. “I am not a number. I am a free man.”

She’s quite the resourceful one. I think she’ll need to be sewn into a cat recovery suit. Hope you can get her spayed soonish.

That is definitely good news. How long was she displaced?

Nothing much exciting going on here. I was so deeply involved in work that I ended up going home on the train 30 minutes later. Hubby didn’t notice the time either - busy times.

Got warm-ish today, but it’s cooling down. Some sort of bug is making noise. Seems that I haven’t heard too many bugs, except for the whine of a mosquito.

Time to do some sort of exercise. Having my butt planted in a chair all day is not good for my back.

Shorthand for “Captain’s mast”, which is when a sailor has committed a misdemeanor (non-judicial) offense, such as being AWOL, disobeying an order, etc. The commanding officer hears evidence and can mete out punishment in varying degrees, usually a fine, forfeiture of pay, restriction to base/quarters, reduction in rank, or any combination of those things. Courts martial are reserved for serious offenses.

While this seems like it’s a stereotype, it’s really not, in my experience. My first duty assignment was with a detachment of Seabees on a Marine Corps base. While I liked some of the Marines, they weren’t people you’d want dating your sister. That perception never changed in my 23 years. I’ve advised a couple of my grandkids who have expressed thoughts about going into the Army to rethink their choice, as they’ll likely end up as grunts and come out of it knowing no more than when they went in. One ignored it, went in the Army and hated every minute of it.

The medieval torture known as dental work went fine this morning. The cavity didn’t go all the way to the nerve, so it was a simple filling. No idea what sort of horror it would have been otherwise.

Daughter texted to ask me to pick up the kids at 4. She was in a meeting at 2:30 when she said “we’re on slide 9 of 53”

I so don’t miss that!

OMG how true. Those endless meetings/trainings. At least with Zoom meetings I could claim my camera broke (it did) and surf the interwebz.

One more year for me…actually 10 months now!

@JaneDoe42

Military life could be fun at times.

Sounds like you had an interesting time for sure!

I was a bit of a flooze myself.
Details will go with me to my grave.
There was a time when I was simply unhinged.

I had a hard time with all of the acronyms and different language used. Took me awhile to get used to it. Gedunk was candy. Bathrooms were heads. The cafeteria was a mess hall. It was exhausting.

When I went to Cuba I thought bunkers were beds.

During a tour of the island upon my arrival the Marine guide was pointing out all the Cubans with guns in the bunkers across the no man’s land border. He was giving us all warning not to try to cross the area or we would be shot.

I was so confused. I was desperately looking for Cubans in beds lined up at the fence. Finally I said something (mistake). The poor guy collapsed so hard with laughter his hat fell off. I was soooo embarrassed but I did learn the meaning of what a bunker was.

Mind you I went to the Navy AFTER I had already graduated from college.

With a degree in English.

There have been (and still remain) many pockets of life that elude me. Military and otherwise.

Injuries kept me out, but…

‘I miss the Navy. I enjoy missing the Navy’ – Mustang LT Dad

I don’t regret any of my time in the service. I also don’t regret retiring when I did, and I never look back at it with nostalgia.

Well my dad was actually on a faster-than-normal promotion line at Fort Ord despite a could have only happened in the '60s/70s blip or two they wanted him to be an officer in Hawaii and possibly Asia (an area my dad loved)

What stopped him? My grandparents… they campaigned for him to leave and move back to the hometown because I was already here and bro 2 was in the oven and the next war was coming any day (so the grand believed)… mom didn’t want to go and Dad knew if he did he’d get into trouble …

well, they did and he did they were divorced in less than 18 months he found his old gang of friends and a few still single former girls … grandma said it was one of her biggest regrets …

Howdy Y’all! Mowage and laundry were accomplished. Then two tired bears needed nappage followed by day drinkin’. We were hongry, so an early sup got fixed and et. Such is life in swampland. Up next, Netflix, chill, and popcorn.

MOOOOOOM you are royalty in the MMP. Also, now I must listen to Queen, the band, as Killer Queen is now stuck in my haid.

WetOne hope you feel better soonest. Yay for Ariel goin’ back to her home!

Lucky love me a peach crisp and a peach cobbler! Hope Mr. B is feelin’ better by now. I’m like that as well after a covid or flu vaccine. We must soon make appointments for both as well.

Cookie sorry for all the family woes. I feel most especially for the son goin’ through the divorce.

MetalMouse GLAD THE HEARIN’ AID APPOINTMENT WENT WELL!!!

Coppertone I bet your hair looks luxurious and fabulous!

I am SO jealous of people who manage to get vids of their pets doing adorable things!

I put Jolene’s e-collar on her last night to check for fit (and to squee at how cute she looked) and I am lucky to have survived the dagger eyes. I’ll try to get pics when she comes home after her spay, she did look adorable.

Seeing the pic of the jeep reminded me to ask if you have considered a seat harness? When four wheeling, the driver has the steering wheel to hold onto but the passenger gets bounced around. I used to be so sore after a long day in the desert until Hubs installed them for me. It was not that pricey and made a big difference in our comfort levels.

Well, I guess you know the answer to that! Don’t let people in his apartment anymore.

Hubs decided that we should go to Ohio because I hadn’t ever bought weed there before. Holy Sticker Shock, Budman! The prices were much higher and the quality not nearly as good as I’m used to. Of course I bought an ounce but wow.

Apparently the permits to open a dispensary run 150G and have to be renewed yearly at 130G. That’s a big operating expense on top of all the other normal expenses.

Weed is cheaper and better quality here, I just made the mistake of getting an ethical doctor involved in getting my medical card. He wants to have proof of my disability hence the scheduled x-rays of my back and hip. It amused me that medicare was paying for it until today.

If there are any more delays on my doctor’s part, I’ll just use an online doctor. They will sign off on anything as long as they get paid first.

I’m happy for you, she didn’t need the stress and you seem to be showing the effects of it as well. I hope you both feel better soon.

Oh, that sounds wonderful. Do you drown it in heavy cream? That helps make it healthier ya know? Balances out the food pyramid by adding protein to the dish.

Ouch! There are certain financial advantages to being DINKS.

Maybe I’ll ask the vet to do that while she’s sedated!

The vet called today and seemed pretty upset about the mistake. She wants to fix it and agrees that it is best for the original surgeon to go back in because she knows what she did last time. She was also pretty firm that there would not be a charge, but as we have already decided that Jolene is our responsibility, we have already called the office and learned how much a normal spay would be. That will be our starting point depending on how complicated this spay is.

The office works with rescues. While I’m sure they get paid, I’m also positive they give the rescues reduced costs and don’t charge for things they should.

I’m going to have to start going to the gym. I’ve found Tai Chi classes online, but they aren’t the same. Something needs to happen because I’ve also been spending way too much time on my ever expanding ass.

I actually didn’t floozy that much while I was in Asia, they had us all terrified of some sort of horrible VD that rotted your whoo-haw off, graphic pics on the slide projector and all. I got fixed while I was there and was primed and ready when I was discharged in Hawaii.

I have more regrets about mistakes I made during cat rescue than I do about my floozy days, but we all make mistakes.

So besides spending too much at the dispensary, today was nice. The drive was beautiful, the trees are turning colors and the weather is perfect. We had lunch with a couple of cousins in Charleston and got home in time for Hubs to give the furrfaces an afternoon nap.

Afternoon all. Got about 1.25 miles backstroked, was going to go for the mile and a half but the pool got filled up while I was taking a break. The heater for the whirlpool is busted and sitting in swirling, tepid/cool water isn’t as much fun as being in warmer water. No soccer tonight, so I plan to finish my Sunday NY Times this evening, outside of that should be a quiet one.

shady, since I worked for the US Army Aviation and Missile Command for 30+ years, I should be an Army backer, but really don’t care much for college tackleball anymore; will watch the NFL on Sundays (and half the days of the rest of the week it seems). Before I got my government job I looked into enlisting, probably would have gone to the US Navy if it had come to that.

Six, until last year I also paid most of my monthly bills by check, but have switched over to direct billing for all of them and so far it has worked very well for me.

FCM, a trip up the coast of Maine sounds like a wonderful outing. And it’s not just the quantity of slides, it’s who is presenting them. We’ve all had the presenter who simply reads everything that is on the slide, word-for-word, no extra comments… :scream:

flyboy, looks like quite a crash, glad you were an observer and not a participant.

wet one, since I presume all three of them have been fixed, it’s a nice platonic triangle…

Cookie, glad you survived the visit to the D.D.S. (which stands for “Dey Died Screaming”)

Six, IIRC, bunker was also used to describe a (relatively poor quality) of shipboard fuel. The military gets full use out of a word.

WHAT!?!?!?

JtC, glad the trip went well, even with the high prices. Hope they have a compatible gym somewhere close to you; I have 7-8 gyms within 10 miles of my house.

And need to finish up some things and then consider dinner time. Take care all.
