(Old) Be-Laboring A Point- An End Of Summer MMP

I love bean soup. Do you put a ham hock in to simmer with it?

Didn’t have a ham hock this time, but there’s a bunch of cubed ham in there. And onions and carrots and celery. It’s a very yum recipe!

Is that what they’re calling them now?

Take care of yourself! I know you are, but we really don’t need any more debility in the Mumper community nor in the Yanker extended household. There’s quite enough already.

With my dwindling patience for the soap opera-style sports coverage that’s all about off-field drama not what’s going on in the game, and the actual game commentation being soooo dumbed-down stupid I’d rather watch the game when I can’t hear anything except the roar of the drunks. That at least is in sync with the ebb & flow of the game.

Then I take out my hearing aids and the drunk roaring subsides too. Win Win. Ima gonna be Hell in a bar once I need a stick to hobble around. Whack! Whack! :wrinkly grin: :geezer:

Yeah. Take no chances young lady. As folks know I’m not a COVID scaredy-cat, but some people really are behind the 8-ball for URI & LRIs, and you’re one of them. Here’s hoping Yanker doesn’t join that exclusive club.

Speaking of COVID, we learned today that Her Ladyship’s daughter “thinks” she has COVID. If so it’ll be her first infection with it. As always, the details that filter out to me are sketchy. I’m suspecting she’s symptomatic, and had a known COVID-positive recent close contact, but isn’t testing positive yet, or can’t / won’t /hasn’t yet gotten out of the house to get any testing kits. We shall see. The only thing harder than herding 5 kids solo would be doing that with a raging case of late-model COVID. Gonna be interesting.

The correct response to this is to say nothing, and walk even slower.

It’s been a fairly quiet week here at Casa de Wheelz. We procured provisions this morning, while temperatures were still in the double digits. Also got flu shots and DTaP over at the CVS. Slothing in the AC now; day drinkin’ may commence soonish.

I’ve read all but don’t have much to add to the conversation. Just imagine me nodding my head and and saying “mm-hmm” now and then.

That’s the best part of my iPad radio scheme. It’s the local radio station broadcast that has been the voice of the Huskers literally for generations and they are great respecters of tradition, so it avoids that soap opera drama that I would get if I was watching it on TV. It’s like time travel back to to sounds of the ‘good ‘ol days’. I’m a genuine old fart when it comes to my football spectating.

Covid sensibility seals the deal. So far, so good. I’ll spend my Covid stranger danger coins on the grocery store, my literacy/library volunteering and, of course, Grandma Sundays with the grands and their collective two schools worth of kid germs. Life on the edge!

pilot, I’m :crossed_fingers:t3:her ladyship’s daughter illness turns out to not be Covid but some mucusy version of snotty kid nose virus. Heaven know, that would be bad enough with the number of kids she’s making a good life possible for.

Afternoon all. Managed to coach two games, referee one, and get two team pictures taken all in about 5 1/2 hours. However, I did forget my cap, so my forehead will be in the ‘glow in the dark’ mode for a couple of days. Got home to find a $400 deposit refund for the fence that was never repaired (neighbors patched it before the company I had the deposit with could get there), so have some extra loot on hand. But not planning on anything more strenuous than microwaving some food and doing some reading.

Hippy, sounds like you had a wonderful experience. Looking forward to pictures.

Herald, Ouch!! Hope it heals up soon. And happy Anniversary! Sounds like a creative way to get around your injury.

Cookie, hope the antibiotics help.

Boo fae, sounds like a good road trip and if you’ve ever heard of Spike Jones, maybe Grandpa would appreciate him…

BBBoo, sorry for the final score. Apparently Deion magic is real.

yanker, so sorry your trip was spoiled. Get well soon and I don’t think the National Parks will be going anywhere. And good on ya for being a good Samaritan.

OK, have hydrated some more and am considering nappage. Take care all.

Ditto from me on all of this. Here’s hoping that you get to embark on a glorious Fall RV tour in the next few weeks.

Heh, at least this week we made a touchdown in the last seconds, instead of giving up a score with one second left. Little steps, Huskers, little steps. 5 of the next 6 games are home games so that makes it a little more likely that we might win just by virtue of home crowd momentum, plus I’ll hear the touchdown fireworks close up (a mile from the stadium). There’s also the fun frisson all around town for home games. Hope springs eternal, don’tjaknow?

Sounds like my split pea recipe.

So I was in the Mezz today. Then over to the 200 Slide. There was less chaos than the last 2 days, even with the thunderstorm. It stopped raining when I was leaving, started once I was outside, and stopped when I got home. At least me and my clothes were going in the wash anyways.

One of the corrections I had to do today was someone who had rendered “12305 Capital Blvd” as 1230 S Captail" :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It’s not paranoia if the are out to get you

:champagne: :cake:HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! :cake: :champagne:

Matt Rhule gonna Matt Rhule. I’m sorry.

I’m people. But my roommate is the one screaming at an episode of Dr. Pimple Popper “DAMMIT, I WANT AN EPISODE WITH CYSTS! I WANT GOO!”

.

So when did Spot learn to speak English?

Suggest bedsore or staging pressure ulcers videos~gives gross pus and goo a new definition.

Howdy Y’all! We had some really nice quality cee-mint pond time today. I even had nappage for a bit whilst upon my float. Kinda nice to snooze while driftin’ around the cee-mint pond. We have showered and had sup, so it’s inside and chill time for the rest of the day.

Yay (again) on a negative test rocker!

Happy anniversary herald! I hope that you heal nicely.

I’ve messed around here at home most of the day, then took Nelson with me to go get gas. I’d forgotten that the intersection at the end of my street (where the gas stations are) had had construction resumed on it, totally effing up traffic. It’s going to be a while before the intersection and that end of the street are improved. The bad part about it is that there is pretty limited access to the rest of town without having to deal with it.

Well, back to watching a documentary about Scots-Irish influence on American music and fooling around in the studio some more.

Good batch of soup. MIL will get some of the leftovers.

No more crocheting tonight. Chillage till bedtime.

Mi esposa made queso dip (Velveeta and Pace picante sauce) yesterday. Today I couldn’t resist dipping some Baken-ets in it. I heated up some Trader Joe’s Beef Birria and had two burritos with shredded cheddar and sour cream on low-carb tortillas. Mi esposa had one. I’m stuffed. I’m on my third glass of Sazerac rye. Ant it’s only 17 o’clock.

We went out in the kayaks today. I did more floating than paddling, since 'Yakwife is slow. But we were out for three hours including loading and unloading.

Hooray for negative tests!

It feels that way now at nearly 8pm.

So last night I learned I was doing this less-than-desirable thing. Ok. They had almost 24 hours to sell it to somebody else, but they were in an all-fired hurry to dump the hot potato and I was right there. Luck of the draw.

So it kinda dominates my day. Once Her Ladyship is finally awake & we’re sheveled we go out for nice breakfast then get back and there’s sorta 90 minutes until I need to nap until I need to get up & dressed dressed until I need to leave early enough to be sure to get there by about 6:30pm on what’ll probably be a rainy afternoon/evening, to then irk until 10pm to get to bed at 11:30pm. 2 hours productive labor and the day from 9am to midnight is shot.

Nappage is nice, I get up and am half dressed when HQ beeps. Flight delayed 1 hour. Was supposed to be 8pm, now 9pm. At least I’m still at home. We’re supposed to show up on time anyhow in case they want to shanghai us for something else, or plans change, but I’m not exactly feelin’ it. I’ll compromise and leave in time to be a little late, and also skip most of my traffic padding. It is Sat night, not Fri night.

Check into the situation; greater NYC is beset with thunderstorms. Lotsa delays from everywhere. FAA says they’re running 3-1/2 hour delays to EWR and we’ve been delayed just one hour. Which my experience says is a giant flashing “SO FAR; JUST YOU WAIT, SUCKER!!” sign. These delays often shorten up late at night as the storms die off and as all the airlines cancel flights. If 10 lbs of shit won’t fit into tonight’s shrunken 5 lb bag, maybe 7 lbs will.

Meanwhile, it’s been thunderstormy here at home and more so down at MIA. The wheels are falling off both ends; the center cannot hold.

45 minutes later I’m long since dressed and ready to go, and my planned departure from the house is fast approaching. At least the rain has quit here & looks decent down towards MIA. HQ chimes again: my flight is cancelled. But just the one to EWR, not tomorrow’s irk back to home. That still has my name on it. There’s a whole crew at HQ that try to fix this kind of crap. Maybe they’ll just drop the whole thing & I can change back to civvies & we’ll go eat. Maybe they’ll make the silly assumption I’m almost at irk and stick me in another flight. Maybe maybe. Maybe. Meantime I’m disinclined to get out of my chair and stick my head in the lion’s mouth.

A few minutes later HQ chimes again. Show up to deadhead to EWR tonight leaving at 9 to arrive at midnight & get to bed at about 1:30am. And irk back tomorrow as planned. Great; just great. Sigh.

Eventually I hop in the car as the sun is setting, the sky is freshly washed and driving westbound a mere 3 miles is blinding with direct sun plus light reflecting off the wet pavement. But very pretty. Get southbound on the freeway and the sun problem is over. See two rainbows on the way down. And a 7-car pileup.

Just now I’m finishing eating a pretty decent Irish beef stew at the airport’s fake Irish pub. Soon I’ll pay up and wander over to the gate for my ride. The FA’s irking this are mine tomorrow, so that’ll be nice.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is not much different. I wonder how much fun we’ll have leaving EWR? Which requires of course somebody bringing us an airplane timely. Oh yeah, the sent my FO someplace else tonight. So they need to find some NY-based person to fill in with me tomorrow night. Fortunately they have 24 hours to work that problem. Sound familiar?

And thus does the great Wheel of Chaos oh so slowly churn, crushing the travel plans of oh so many. Lots of dispirited folks here in the terminal this evening. And not just a few demoralized or disoriented crewfolks. I’m seeing lots of thousand-yard stares. But I’m well-rested and well-fed and battle is about to be joined for real.

Cheers all!! Enjoy your lazy evenings at home. Or in doggio’s case, good luck with the evening heave.

Please listen to nellie’s wise words and also think about how your rl friends would feel knowing that you needed help, but didn’t want to bother them.

If I knew that one of my friends couldn’t get up to pee and just laid there with their legs crossed while their phone was at hand, I would be so hurt.

You are always so sweet.

I hope your knee continues to do as well as possible.

Good for you, keep it up!!!

I wonder where he gets that from…

I hope the move goes smoothly.

Thanks all for the good wishes for VBC. Now that I’ve twigged to her not doing right, I’m paying better attention and I am thinking that she has teeth issues again. She is our lil snarf and barf girl, she pukes at least three times a week and the stomach acid washing up and over her teeth certainly can’t be a good thing. (She’s had several very comprehensive (read: expensive) vet exams over this and the vet finally just diagnosed her as a competitive eater.)

VBC says she does NOT need to go to the vet, she is just FINE, thank you very much…but she hasn’t been to the vet in three years, it’s time anyhow.

Oh yes, trying to keep weight on elderly pets is quite the challenge. I wouldn’t really worry except this has happened more quickly than usual. But, like you say, it’s best to let a vet give her a good look over and see what’s going on.

I am so glad you were able to go to such a perfect for you event! I would never want to be a judge at something like that, how is it even possible to choose between all of the masterpieces?

Hurray! I’m so glad your only aftereffects are just boredom while waiting for freedom. Plus, kittah fud is important.

OWIE! I’m sorry you missed going out for dinner, but thank goodness for plan B.

DANG! I’m so sorry. I’m glad you were able to get your most of your money back, but the disappointment must sting.

Get lots of rest and drink more water than you usually do. It will help with the antibiotic stoppage that sometimes happens.

So I stayed up to watch the NCSU game. Which wasn’t bad until the 4th quarter. Oy. So I’m back up, having dinner and a Sazarac.

It’s my Friday night, so I will only be heaving if I drink too much whiskey tonight.

This how I ended up with an 8 hour layover in Cincinnati(delayed JFK flight). Which in 2007 had enough good fake Irish pubs to make an 8 hour pub crawl worthwhile.

Spot’s gotten comfortable enough he doesn’t totally freak out when I pick him up. Which will be important when he goes for his first yearly check up in the next few months.

: takes notes :

Dude. Good luck!

Do you have room to put the carrier in front of the glass doors? Spot likes spending time there so maybe it will help him get comfortable with the idea. Or not. Cats are cats.

VBC is trying very hard to tell me that she is just fine and doesn’t need her temp taken. She has brought me sock monkey, piggy and a REAL mongo grasshopper that she didn’t bother to cripple first. GG was very entertained, we are not happy about the mini blinds in the hobby room, but I was planning on getting insulated drapes for that room anyhow. Guess I’d better get on it.

Happy Saturday!

The weather wasn’t too bad today. I want to sit outside more, but the mosquitoes are horrible.
I should find a spray for myself, but most of them smell awful or are oily on my skin.

The GR are making me crazy. They will get the zoomies in the house, then when I put them outside, they stand on the deck and do nothing.
There is not enough room in the house for zoomies.

We were supposed to go over to the new house today. The guy who is friends with the seller said he’d meet us over there and help my son put the lawn mower together and show him a few things around the house. I overslept and wasn’t feeling up to it, and my son just wanted to sleep. However, since the seller friend offered to do us a favor, I felt we couldn’t turn him down.
We didn’t need to. He is a maintenance man for an apartment complex and one of the tenants set their kitchen on fire.
We’re going to meet tomorrow instead.
I hope the rest of the stuff I ordered shows up. He’s going to put in the outlets for the garage door opener.
He is the one who wants to work out a rent to own deal for my old house.

I’ve made a list of stuff to take. TP heads the list. I have no idea if she left any behind or not. For all I know, she could have taken all the light bulbs too. I doubt it, but you never know.
When I leave here, I plan to leave an extra roll of TP in each bathroom, hand soap at each sink, a roll of paper towels, a pack of paper plates, and some dishwasher tabs. Maybe some bottled water in the fridge. People have enough to deal with moving in. If I can make it a little easier for them, why not?

I didn’t contact the realtor today; I didn’t do anything today. Well, I irked for a few hours, and it was mostly easy calls today.

Nellie, Uber is a much better service, but it is $33.50 for an Uber to take my son to irk, or to bring him home. With the tip, it’s $40. The cab is $10.50, with the tip $15. Big difference. Uber is easier to work with, more professional, and takes credit cards. However, the Uber around here wants several hours’ notice of needing a ride. That works for a ride to irk, but not for coming home as he is never sure when he will get off.
I have told him there will be no more nighttime rides.
At least not until I feel steadier on my feet.

{{{JtC and VBC}}}
You are right in that my rl friends would be offended if I didn’t ask for help.
Barky/Humpy mom offered to take my laundry to her house today to do for me.
I’m okay to do a bit of laundry though. My son carries it for me, I just sit next to the washer and put it in, then take it out and carry it across the kitchen to the dryer. He’ll carry it upstairs for me.
He’s going to put it in the dryer for me tonight though. I fell asleep halfway through this post and will be putting the last load in the washer before I go to bed.

I hope there will be n oheaving tonight Doggio

When we take Adam to the vet, we build the carrier around him. He doesn’t like it, but it’s easier than getting him into it.

Congrats on weight loss FCM
I will remember FCD whenever I think I don’t need to take it easy.

{{{Yankers}}}. I’m sorry about your URI and the canceled trip.

{{{Herald}}} that hurts.
Happy Anniversary

I hope you stay negative Rocky.
I have a very low opinion of covid tests kits.

Shoe and Pilot, the way you put it, it is rather stupid to not pee to keep from getting the dogs up. I didn’t want them to get excited. I felt horrible for them that they couldn’t go.
FWIW though, I have never in my life had an UTI. I know they are common for a lot of women, but never for me. No yeast infections either.

This is how Rayleigh sleeps. Right hip and left shoulder. Or rather left hip and right shoulder.
It looks uncomfortable. You can see where Misiu took a bite out of the molding. Little brat.

Now off to bed, it is almost 1am.
