(Old) Be-Laboring A Point- An End Of Summer MMP

It’s been holding at about -5 all day.

I didn’t have to move stuff out of the fridge freezer today, but yeah; I had to. (‘That’s why I plugged it in. It’s OK, I can unplug it. Unless you want to waste electricity…’)

SWMBO is amazed at how little the fridge’s freezer is. It’s ⅔ empty now, and the ‘new’ freezer is pretty much empty. (The basket has stuff in it, three steaks are on a ledge, and a box of 16 mm film is in the bottom.)

I fear the rodents have compromised the gas line to my oven. I get a faint whiff of gas when I’m near it. I know I’ve got mice and squirrels in the house, it’s from 1885, with a stacked stone basement, so there ain’t no keeping them all out. I do have one of those gas sniffer thingies, and it says I’m fine. But I prolly should pull the stove out from the wall before winter shut in.

nellie Oh, yeah, the itching from incisions. Better that than the alternative.

A friend lost their dog yesterday, and she’s now going to have to break the news to her daughter, who was away. Shit that the furballs don’t last longer.

Quick, go look at the moon. Do you know that if someone put a catapult up there they could probably shoot themselves in the back if they stood still long enough?

For now. It won’t take long until the new one will be too small.

Late to the party today because I woke up, then rolled over and went back to sleep. Then got up and went shopping at Trader Joe’s, came home, fixed brunch, then went shopping at Target. Wow, I think I like this long weekend stuff. Except the part where I don’t get paid for hours not worked. I don’t like the high 90s heat, but that’s about to come to an abrupt end.

In the past, I’ve often been very busy because Labor Day weekend meant race weekend, at least for the Saturday/Sunday portion, which left Monday for doing all the normal weekend shopping and housecleaning. This year, we finally got a break and our event was moved to a different weekend. So I spent Saturday making my from-scratch spaghetti sauce, which is now all approportioned and in the freezer or in my belly. Sunday was cleaning and lazing around, and today was shopping. What I should have done, and didn’t, was update my resume. Gotta get out of that job and into something better. Or at least without the cranky boss.

Fun fact. I was born on Labor Day. My mother found it highly appropriate as I was her most difficult birth (4 kids, 2 miscarriages). The result for me was always school clothes for my birthday.

Nellie, I’m glad you and your daughter were able to have a heart-to-heart, and then she and her brother. Open communication lines are so important.

@pullin Glad you are getting that respiratory infection checked out. At least get a puffer to help you breathe. I’ve noted a few retirees are heading off on their vacations starting Tuesday. One told me it’s a fantastic way to avoid the crowds and still get that lovely end-of-summer time at a cabin or on a hike.

Brownie, what’s a squash-o-gram?

Cookie, we’re as worried about your knee as you. I hope it resolves easily.

I’d have claimed that right away too. I have a tiny one in my apartment now. A backup freezer is a wonderful thing to have at the end of summer here. Mine currently houses much of the spaghetti sauce I made this weekend, plus a bunch of berries and meat. It allows me to cut back on grocery shopping in winter when the sidewalks are icy and the weather not fun.

FCM, excellent job on the woodpile. Good on ya!

Bedtime for me. Bummer that after sleeping late, I feel wide awake. But I know better than to push my limits. Onward to tomorrow.

Oh. The freezer is a Kenmore, which is nice.

About 99% certain that refers to a mammogram.

Are you making pemmican?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave

All y’all feel better, and {{{{hugs}}}}

And that they run off.

or beef gin.

Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies.

… band name?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/70f with a predicted high of 27c/80f, and sunny. Weather app is feeling much better today and says “It’s a perfect day to fucking piss in the pool.” I am nowhere near a pool and wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing!

After the excitement of Board of Examiners yesterday, we have to release al the marks/results/decisions/feedback etc at midday so we’re getting ourselves ready for that, and bracing ourselves for the inevitable bunch of disgruntled students who didn’t get what they expected. Fortunately the one whose mother rang to scream and shout at us after the summer marks release managed to get through without incident so hopefully she (and her mother) will keep quiet this time.

Other than that, nice quiet day at home although it’s far too hot. I’ve got the windows open despite the racket from next door’s demolition still going on, guess we’ll just have to put up with the disturbance for the sake of some cooler air.

Big excitement of the day will be grocery shopping tonight then.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 90 and mostly N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I am overwhelmed with excitatement. We shall also sloth and indulge in general overall uselessness as is our wont. Sup shall be a hunk o’ roast beast in the slow cooker, baby lima beans, roasted baby carrots, rice ‘n gravy, and cornbread. The need for some down home cookin’ is strong.

VanGo sorry about your friend’s doggie. They never do live long enough.

doggio I take it Spot had early mornin’ zoomies.

BooFae may the drama be minor.

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR VVVRRROOOOOOMMM!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Since it’s with Consumer Cellular, and Target apparently has a link with them, we hoped that’s what we could do. But their CC rep wasn’t in yesterday, alas! We were able to get the phone and I probably could have activated it on line, but we had so many things to do with CC, I decided to call. And the rep we got was aces! Plus the call dropped twice and he called me back right away. For all that it took long, it really was an amazing customer service experience!

… with an umbrella - don’t forget the little umbrella!

I was at a Navy training command when my mom had our dog put down - yeah, it was tough to get the news…

From the cake by your name, I assume it’s today? Which also happens to be my daughter’s b-day!

Happy Happy !!! :confetti_ball: :sparkler: :birthday: :champagne:

Lots of little chores today, but no biggies. I need to empty the dishwasher and tidy the kitchen. I’m going to haul the dirties downstairs and maybe do a load of laundry. I’m going to try to tidy the basement despite Tobias being here wanting to play. And there’s probably other chores I’m forgetting.

When I take the kids home, we’ll wait for their mom, then I’ll take them all to Cracker Barrel where we’re going to meet FCD and MIL for a birthday supper for my baby girl. Can’t believe she’s 38 already!!

I had a semi-weird night. I kept waking up thinking it was later than it actually was. I bet I woke 4 or 5 times. But despite that, I feel mostly rested. And so begins today, with the MMP and caffeination.

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning.

It’s 53F and mostly cloudy outside. It’s also still dark. The expected high is 71F and mostly cloudy skies will change to partly cloudy by afternoon.

JtC, your NF sounds like a wonderful person and I’m sorry that your other friend was hurt in an accident. Good on you for helping to take care of insurance and hide stuff for her.

I’m sorry about your friend’s dog, Van Gogh. You’re right, they don’t get to stay with us long enough.

Happy birthday, carnut!

Happy Birthday to FCdaughter, FCM!

sari, dang it. Rest your body. It’ll all still be there when you can physically handle it.

Once in a great while, I think it would be cool to have a pool, although not at this house. The yard is too small for that. Then, sanity steps in. Pools are a lot of work and expensive, and I’m sure swampy would know better than me. Heated pools are really expensive, even up here where energy costs can be lower than other parts of the country.

It’s back to the salt mines today. I’m not looking forward to it. Tomorrow will be an in-office day and I’d much rather not go.

nellie, I’m glad your visit with the kids’ was nice, but yeah, the sheets could have waited a day or two so you could give the knee a break.

Yesterday, I took care of the minor chores, regular laundry, changing out the bed linens, roll-sucking, cooking a batch of chicken thighs for Polar, and other little things. I couldn’t get to the lawn because it rained for much of the morning yesterday and was pretty wet. Perhaps I can take care of it today or tomorrow after work.

Alrighty. It’s time to get the last of the dishes in the dishwasher (a couple of glasses and my coffee cup) and run it before I start my day.

Mornin’ all. Just now sunrise as I start this magnum opus and I’ve been balconatin’ and caffinatin’ about an hour now. No beach for me today, I need to let yesterday’s UV dose soak in a bit more. A few puffy clouds lit from from below are now transitioning to being lit from beside and soon from above. Temp’s 83/28 and the breeze was wonderful, but as usual has died just as the Sun comes up. It’ll be back in an hour or so.

My late first wife had some scissors like that where the goldtone-plated handles formed a feathered bird’s head and the shiny silver blades were a long hummingbird-like beak. Ideal for thread or yarn-craft. Best of all they made this cute squeaking noise with every snip. With a hint of imagination that was the sound of the bird happily chirping its way through the snippery.

Nellie I’m sorry you’re itching so much; are you sure there’s nothing topical you can safely put on it?

Happy birthday to vroom and FCDaughter. Yaay!!!

Flyboy: the only then better than a Kenmore chest fridge is a free Kenmore chest fridge . Quite the score.

Possible. It’s also possible the valve to one of the burners or the oven is slightly leaky. Gas is really stinky and just a teeny bit gives that faint whiff. For ~$20 Amazon will sell you a sensitive detector you can pass around the stove and plumbing to isolate the source.

If the problem is inside the walls that’s a big deal needing urgent action. The amount of gas in that confined space could be a lot more than you’re smelling leaking out into the room. An earth-shattering Ka-Boom is a lousy thing to wake up to. Although gas explosions tend to sound more like a house-shattering WHUMP!!1! than a Ka-Boom. Either way, it’s the “shattering” part you’d like to avoid. Good luck for a cheap easy fix!!

Back to me:
Today Her Ladyship will have a major hair appointment and tonight a dessert-only food truck will grace our building. They apparently make their own extra yummy ice cream. But not while you wait; that’d be a very long wait.

Administrivia for work or for personal has been a large part of my life for decades. Between increasing automation, more email and less snail mail, and the impending cessation of all irk-related stuff, I wonder what the heck I’ll do to fill the free time or scratch the itch to organize or file?

Probably just stop having the itch; there was a lot of record-keeping and note-taking over the years that experience has proven was unnecessary. Now to learn from that experience and change the habits. Like the transition from mailing paper checks for bills to having it all managed automatically by the bank, at first it feels scary and out-of-control, but later it just feels effortlessly freeing.

Another mental milestone being processed.

For me this day shall be high sloth and perhaps a mini-adventure around town. Or overtime, but that’s not the way to bet. Sigh.

Cheers all!!

Aaaaand back to positive, argh! I figured I would do one more test before going back to the office to be sure. It was positive. Dang it, I mist have boomeranged.

Aargh!

Waiting for the floor installers. Today is gonna be mass chaos at casa de Peedin. I put gabapentin in Ursala Kitteh’s ears hoping it makes her sleepy enough that I can relocate her upstairs to the bedroom. We’ll spend the day up there. Today is the last day of 90 degree weather. Thank og.

purplehorseshoe had it right; it’s a mammogram. Mr. brown will accompany me, because the lab is near good restaurants and we’ll go out afterwards for lunch. I want to hit a good Thai place, as we haven’t had Thai food in an age.

Today all the working stiffs return to work and free up the shops and roadways. I can hear the roar of the morning commute on the distant freeway already, at 5 a.m., and I’m so happy I don’t have to participate in it anymore.

This tinnitus/vertigo thing is forming a distinct pattern, which I’ll mention to the ENT. The tinnitus and pressure get worse and worse over the course of a week, then I get a bout of vertigo. Afterwards, the tinnitus and pressure are gone and stay away for about a day, and then it starts all over again. Huh. It has to mean something. But at least today is a tinnitus-free day, as I had an episode of vertigo yesterday afternoon. I’m savoring the blissful silence.

Morning all. Up around 6am, we’ll see it that was enough sleep or not. Gym and soccer are on the schedule, there is a little rain right now but it’s supposed to go away in a little but and the temperature will be close to 90F again.

{{hugs}} to all the sickies, pain sufferers and itchy folks out there; so far good health seems to be following me, but you never know what the day will bring…

Wet one, hope you and Ursala’s calm isn’t too badly destroyed.

lucky, hope the Doc can help.

rocky, bad luck! Maybe that was a false positive? When can you try again?

Hippo-birdies to FCM daughter and vroom.

Boo fae, hope the Ides of Marks isn’t to unpleasant.

VanGo, would get a professional to double-check if your search is unsuccessful. Gas is one thing I wouldn’t fool around with.

Sari, hope the medications work for you, take care of yourself first and have someone else (Sah-son, friends) get the measurements…delegate while you recuperate.

OK, fast has been broken and the day awaits. All y’all take care and have a good 2sDay.

They were very specific about NO LOTIONS, and no soaking in a tub. The surgeon said that lotions are basically a waste of money, and ill-advised for post-surgery.

The pharmacy is delivering new tests today. It was quite the surprize to see such a definite line this morning after it fading for the last few tests.

No symptoms, just cabin fever. Cats are happy I’m home.
