(Old) Be-Laboring A Point- An End Of Summer MMP

At my last gig at the Zoo, I usually worked holidays, unless they fell on one of my regular days off, which were Thursday and Friday. But thanks to the Teamsters Union, I got paid double and a half for working on a holiday, and four hours straight pay for not working on a holiday. So I wasn’t complaining.

These days, I’m hardly working at all, which ought to change soon. Things seem to be about to pick up for the inventory company I contract with, so I hope to start getting some more assignments. And I’m going to start bidding for paying proofreading jobs this week. Not sure what to expect there, but my fingers are crossed.

My government gigs always had holidays off which was nice. Now that I’ve been retired for a while we forget about holidays until they smack us in the face. When we do remember that a long weekend is coming up, we make plans to stay home. We never were big fans of crowds and traffic, so now that we don’t have to be out in them, we don’t go out.

Today I did go out, though. NF had a ton of peaches blow down during the last storm and I went over and got some of the deadfall for people’s chickens and some nice peaches for us to eat. She’s going out of town tomorrow but has asked me to come over in a few days and pick more peaches. It is good that I like peaches, cause it looks like I’m going to be getting lots.

Last week, when NF and I went to buy the fudge to help that homeless woman out, the store owner mentioned that Heidi still needed 300 dollars to be able to get her keys and to tell all of our friends about the fudge. Today NF gave me 300 bucks to be sure that those kids got to sleep in an apartment. Her kindness and generosity is amazing, she doesn’t live in this community and has never met the women or children but still wanted to help.

In other news, NF has an Asian Pear tree and I brought some of those home as well. They look so much like apples that you get a little taste shock when you put the apple looking thing in your mouth and get pear instead.

nellie, I’m sorry your kids are gone, but so happy they were able to visit. You don’t HAVE to wash their sheets and remake the bed today, you can let it wait for a few days so you don’t overwork your poor knee.

The “hiding” of stuff was probably pretty unnecessary, her parents didn’t impress me as the sort who were going to spend their free time going through their daughter’s underware drawer, but you never know. But yeah, people don’t recover well when they are stressed and it didn’t hurt us to do it, so whatever.

I talked to her mom today and hurt friend has recovered enough to be super pissed off over the whole thing. It’s a good thing the driver went to a different hospital, the community hospital isn’t the best hospital in the state, but it is safer for him than being in the same hospital as her.

I napped. I took a walk. I skritched Spot a few dozen times. Time for an Old Fashioned and some cheeseburgers.

What, are they worried you’ll go full Tex Johnson on your last approach?

I enjoy it, too.

I got that. Which is nice.

Since he’s breaking into places he’s not supposed to be, not breaking out, I think he’s more of a cat burglar.

Better that than being a cat bugler.

Cats are annoying enough at 2am when they want to play without adding horns to their repertoire.

DH’s snoring has the horn section covered. Lately, he sounds like a tuba.

Have you considered separate houses? I’ve never had to contend with noisy snoring, nor do I do it, but I’d sure be tempted to move somebody out.

The checking account finds that concept hilarious.

Well, that was fun. We got MIL a new flip phone and added her to our Consumer Cellular account. We ordered a new phone for FCD which should get here tomorrow or the next day. And we ordered a SIM card for BIL - he’s going to get FCD’s old phone and his own Consumer Cellular account. It’ll save them a few bucks over Verizon and by having MIL’s account on ours, when she dies, it’ll be one less thing to worry about. When BIL gets his SIM, I’ll help him set up his account and transfer service. I was on the phone well over an hour trying to get it all done, but we finally got it taken care of. Whew!

They stayed for supper - luckily, I had 2 packs of sketty sauce in the freezer so it was a quick and easy meal. We just took them back to their apartment so chillage can commence here. I’ve got the dishwasher sloshing and shortly, I’ll plop down in my recliner.

I’m beat! I should sleep well tonight.

I’m glad that you and your kids got a few things out in the open, nellie

Irked, came home, et and am now plopped in front of the desktop with a small, reddish doggy in my arms. OT has been cancelled for tomorrow, so I may begin to catch up on my rest now.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Evening all. Swimming and sauna have been done, only one player came out to the ‘voluntary’ practice so we kicked it around for about 30 minutes and then I returned him to his parents and went to Mickey D’s for the evening meal, which I’ve just finished. Nothing else on the agenda except internettin’ and readin’.

Pilot, sounds like a perfect Labor Day to me.

Would you consider adopting me?

swampy, sometimes I wonder what life would be like with a backyard pool. I do enough swimming at the gym to get by, and my yard is not big enough for a good-sized pool, but sometimes…

Wheelie, fingers crossed that the workload (and income) picks up for you.

JtC, so glad NF is such a sweetheart. And also glad hurt friend is recovering.

I bow to your superior knowledge of felines.

FCM, you make me glad I only have to worry about one phone. And chillage is definielty on the agenda after the day you put in.

OK, on to the rest of the evening. All y’all take care.

'Twas mostly a joke, so I’m glad you laughed.

Though people have gotten separated or divorced over uncontrolled snoring and the ensuing sleep deprivation. I’m sure someone has been murdered over it too, although I don’t know how many juries would convict. You might have to settle for banishing him to another room.

Maybe you can train the cats to bug him whenever he’s noisy. They’re up at night anyhow, so they may as well do something useful. You’ll get well-deserved quiet, and be free of cats playing with your feet at 2am because they’ll be occupied bugging him instead of you. Win-win!

Dinner here was a ham sandwich. Some cheese and crackers may make a snack. Tomorrow might be more beach, or maybe not; I’ll need to assess my UV dosing from today after it’s had 20+ hours to soak in.

I’m sorry, have you ever met a cat? (laughing)

He made a funny, LOLOLOL!!!

To be fair, if you tried to train Buddy to NOT bother Hubs, it might work. Or he might to reverse your reverse psychology. 50/50.

Happy Moonday!

It’s hot outside. I haven’t been out but I can tell by the way the dogs smell when they come in.

I’m stuck upstairs for another day.
I knew I did too much Wednesday and I was feeling it Thursday.
I took it easy Thursday and Friday, Saturday was a pretty painful day.
As the day went on the pain got worse and I could barely stand up at bedtime.
I made it upstairs and my son had to help me into bed. I couldn’t lift my legs up.
Yesterday, I could barely move, I couldn’t even sit up without help.
I called the doctor even though it’s a holiday weekend and got the doctor on call. She said it was from doing too much Wednesday and it aggravated the nerves.
The pain started in my back, circled around and into my hip and down both legs, front and back. I also have weakness in both legs. The doctor said that is what happens if you overdo it.
She prescribed gabapentin, celecoxib, and tizanidine, which the pharmacy delivered. There was no way I could go get them.
I slept all day yesterday and all night last night.
I feel better today, but not better enough to brave the stairs.
I don’t need help getting in and out of bed anymore. I’m sure that makes my son happy.
It still hurts, but it’s bearable pain.
He has been good about helping me.

We have yet to go to the new house, and I need measurements from there. I called the seller’s friend and he knew how high the garage doors are. I need to know how much space there is for the washer/dryer. The ones I want are 27", which seems to be the standard width. The seller’s washer and dryer looked big to me.
Never mind on that one, I’m getting a two-in-one washer dryer combo. I thought it might be inconvenient because you can’t wash another load while the first one is drying, but it’s 4.8 cu. ft., it will hold a lot and there may not be a need to wash a second load while the first is drying. It will take up less space in the laundry room.
I’m holding off on the garage door opener, I need to talk to somebody, I think there are no outlets close enough.

And what a pain to check out. I got a new HD card but it wouldn’t let me change it to the new number. I got a very nice associate on the phone though and she got everything to go through.
I hope I haven’t made a mistake. The washer/dryer combo was pretty pricy. I was going to get one that was the same price as a washer+dryer but the reviews were bad. I got the one with better reviews and 4.8 cu. ft. I also went for a new stove, very expensive too, but it comes with two ovens and you can adjust the burner size to the size of the pot, has frozen bake technology and convection.
Perfect for two people who never cook.

Nellie, you did what you did when you had to do it. Staying together for the kids or splitting up, everybody gets hurt either way. When my sister and her husband split, my older niece was happy about it, my younger niece was devastated. Same situation for both, but their individual personalities processed it in different ways.
The only family I have cut off is my sister. There are others who are a bit obnoxious, but I don’t have to deal with them often.

FCM, nice house but way too much for me. At least this one doesn’t look like somebody with multiple personalities decorated it.
My current house is 1525 sq ft, which at times has felt too big. The new one is 1584 sq ft and it feels kind of small. Different layouts.
The bedrooms are small and there isn’t as much closet space.
I’m still not sure what is going where, or who is taking which bedroom.
No matter, I am going to miss this bedroom. It’s a nice size and has three big windows that get the morning sun. I know most people wouldn’t like that, but I do.
The master bedroom at the new place has one small window.

All y’alls cats make Adam look good. Well, he is a good cat, he doesn’t get into things, and rarely jumps on counters and stuff. He will jump on one table in the living room where my son displays his 3D puzzles and he rarely knocks anything over. Which is good, because those 3D puzzles kind of explode on impact. The biggest annoyances are when he comes in the back door just to go out the front door. He also gets a bit demanding about treats. He sounds like a herd of elephants when he runs through the house. He has never meowed, and he does a weird kind of chirp.

I’m sorry about your friend JtC. I hope she will be okay, and you are sweet to take care of things as you did.

I’m glad you are negative Rocky

I get no holidays, no sick time, no vacation. Of course, I can irk whenever I want for as long as I want, and I can take all the time off that I want, I just don’t get paid if I don’t irk. There are some rules about how many hours we have to irk each week (12?) and how many days in a row we can take off (30?), but I’d have to look it up to be sure.
I remember when family would get together on the holiday, but it’s been a long time since that happened. Labor Day was usually a picnic or a cook out, last time to get in the pool before it was closed for the season.

The otters are cute, Flyboy

I hope your infection clears up soon, Yankers

Congrats on weight loss Herald

I can’t believe it is 830 already. To be honest, I’m a little f’d up from the drugs so I have to keep fixing this post. If I sound a little loopy, it’s because I am.

Congrats on almost retied, Pilot

What about a swim spa?

I may fall asleep any time now. Tahred!! Hoping for an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

I forgot to mention one very important item about my day. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Actually, I am proud of myself for rememberin’ since it’s a day later this week. Go Me!

JtC you are a good friend and I am glad your friend is feelin’ better. NF is also a very good person for doin’ what she did. I don’t know her, but I already love her. I am sure she’d be glad to know a grumpy ol’ gay man in Jawja thinks she’s good people. :

sari glad to know you feel some better. You won’t regret the stove. I have that stove and really, really like it. Then again, we do cook a lot. Took some doin’ to understand/learn all the features, but it’s worth it. That washer/dryer combo intrigues me. Next time I am in need I will look into one of those. My current washer and dryer are only four years old, so I am actually hopin’ I never need to buy another of either, but one never knows.

MOOOOOOM nice of y’all to help MIL and BIL take care of phone stuff. I am not that patient with that kind of stuff. I’m a go to the phone place and get it done as quick as possible. All I want is a dang phone dagnabbit!

Dinner is cleaned up and posies are watered, so I have time to pay proper attention.

Well that sucks. I hope you are able to go on your trip, I know you have been looking forward to it.

I’m also hoping that you are wrong because hearing loss isolates people so much.

The latest Covid booster is available here, but I got my last jab in August so I can’t get another one until next month. I plan to get the new RSV shot at the same time, I live a very low risk lifestyle, but I also live in anti-vax country.

Sweet! Do be sure to put a thermometer in it to be sure it goes to the right temp. I’d also suggest filling a dixie cup with water, freezing it and then putting a penny on top and adding that to the new freezer so you can be sure the freezer is holding the correct temp.

I agree with the yogurt suggestions. I hope you are feeling better soon. Sinus infections just suck. I would be crabby too.

I’m so glad Koritza won’t have to resort to chewing on you in your sleep!

Super impressed. There is a very good reason we live in the desert, LOL!!!

Good job and congrats!!!

I saw one of those 10-15 years ago and can still see it in my mind’s eye. I’m super happy you got to see one too.

Oh how nice. Sharp pointy scissors are great, but cute scissors seem to cut better than plain ones do. I suspect it’s the same principle as drinks tasting better in fancy glasses.

:people_hugging:

We once had an orange smartass figure out how to defeat the baby locks we put on our cabinets.

Even just the pic you shared showed what looked like a very good cat. Be sure and keep him in for at least a week after you move so he doesn’t try to go home. And please start taking better care of yourself. I know you have a whole lot to do, but if you are doing something and it hurts, please don’t do it.

She will be thrilled. Except for the part that she asked me to not tell anyone where the money came from…

I talked to hurt friend’s mom again tonight, HF will be going back into more surgery tomorrow and mom appreciated my very good notes as to insurance and car and will be taking over which is good. I can only lie for so long before someone asks me for something I can’t BS my way around.

If I had a brush with metal bristles, I woul attack my incision, and to hell with the consquences. The itching is unbearable.
