There was a commercial, I think it was back in the '80s, touting the virtues of a certain brand of beer. I remember this: They claimed ale was too heavy, and they depicted this with what sounded like monks chanting to the tune of The Volga Boatman ‘A-le, ale, ale! A-le, ale, ale!’
I might (or might not) have depicted light beer with a twangy, upbeat ‘country’ tune. (I have the ‘Jersey Maid’ jingle in my head: ‘Beer, beer beer! Beer, beer, beer!’. But I’m not certain that’s remotely correct.)
Does anyone remember what brand of beer this commercial was advertising?
While I’m waiting, here’s a jingle for those of you who were in the San Diego area in the '70s:
*King Snedley’s
It’s a real beer!
And a real beer
Is a Snedley’s beer
He’s in our hearts, you know
We really love him so
The king [you know?] is Snedley!*
The Lucky Lager Brewing Company introduced King Snedley’s Beer early in the 1970 to appeal to younger drinkers as they didn’t like the taste of Lucky Lager. Even though it did well in the taste tests, King Snedley’s flopped commercially. People could not agree if King Snedley was a new beer or Lucky Lager rebranded.
I can’t help you with the beer commercial from the 1980s.
