(Old) Buddying With Allies in the MMP

I’ve said it mentally.

I’ve said it out loud.

I still don’t get it. :frowning: Lil’ help, anyone?

Cuz that recipe sucks and I’m sure humanity can do better?

I have another one tacked up, to hold my eyeliner.

Useful little things, those doob tubes. @JaneDoe42 the clear ones (I absolutely hoard those when I get 'em) are great for tiny fiddly things like seed beads.

they did the presser on the parade. huge swath will be blocked off. about 7 miles. some places are blocked off now. there will be 15 jumbotrons that will play the winning game until the parade starts. officially it will run from 11 am to 3:30pm. unofficially people will start gathering in the wee hours of the morning and go to late in the night.

i picked up items from the yarn store so i can catch up for the next lesson. i totally forgot how to long tail cast on. after 3 you tube videos and at least 10 start overs, i have about a half inch of ribbing done. the cats were not happy, they felt i should be paying attention to them and not yarn. they were the cause of a few start overs. once they settled down and napped i was able to get going.

no snow as yet. i am fully prepared to once again be disappointed by snow.

My only verbal tic of that sort is that whenever we drive past a sign that says STEEL PLATE IN ROAD, I must respond, “STEEL PLATE IN HEAD.”

Me too.

“If you can’t behave, bedeck,” means, “If you can be good, look good.”

Ah. Well, I can handle that.

(She says, in her grubbiest PJs, having finally washed off the remainder of her slept-in eyeliner from 2 days ago … )

We’ve gotten something over 2" so far and it’s coming down steadily. Various estimates for accumulation - up to 9", tho that forecast is more north and west of us. But we might see 5-7" before it stops. Alexa said it will turn to freezing rain tonight, but no other forecasts agree with that. So I guess we’ll see what we see.

I’ve assembled the cottage pie and it’ll go in the oven in about 20 minutes. Warning - use the All Recipes website with some caution. The cottage pie recipe that popped up first called for italian seasoning. Um, I think not. All other times I’ve made it, you use thyme and rosemary, but no oregano or basil.

This is the same website that had a “teriyaki” recipe that was just soy sauce and mayo. I did find a better recipe on another site (yeah, I have a couple in my file, but I like to look for others occasionally) and it smells quite good. I just wish I’d made more mashed spuds - I was afraid I’d have too much, but it was not as thick a layer as I’d hoped.

Oh, yeah, and thanks to threats of tariffs on aluminum, the materials cost for our fuel tanks shot up 50%!!! That’s as close as I’ll get to political commentary, but I’m not happy.

OK, recliner beckons. Off I go.

We are supposed to get snow starting late this evening, predicted 6-9". We got 14" not quite a month ago, and still have some piles of that in the corner of parking lots and such. I was at the grocery store yesterday and people were packing the aisles again. Oddly it seemed like folks were more into bottled water, not just bread, eggs and milk.

Well, I went to the meeting and it was as deadly boring as I had feared. I mean gun to the head after ten minutes boring. I’m pretty sure I’ll be ducking these people for the foreseeable future. They’re talking about doing haiku, for god’s sake. And sing-alongs. Yeah, nope.

I can pit Haiku
Slow so awkward way to write
Confuse me and you

Buddy is getting very territorial lately. He was curled in my lap when a maintenance worker started doing something with a parking space roof outside our patio window. He started growling, and headed for the door like he wanted to go defend his turf. No puffed fur, though.

We agree that this is a good recipe. With slight alterations. I cooked the potatoes with a beef bouillon cube and I skipped the parm because we were out. And I went heavy on onion because YUM, plus I like using frozen mixed vegetables instead of separate additions of each. So I guess not exactly the same recipe, but I don’t think those were major changes. The gravy it made was very tasty and we both decided this is a keeper - certainly better than other recipes I’ve used in the past.

Too bad we don’t have a chocolate cake to finish off the meal. Dammit.

Daughter said they closed the base at noon, so she had a short day. She’s waiting to hear if the kids (and she) have off tomorrow. It’s still falling briskly here. Glad I have the number of someone to clear the driveway. I saw an updated forecast that mentioned 12" accumulation. Dammit.

Our snow is expected at about 1:00PM tomorrow, with a predicted 1 to 3 inches.

But I like haiku
Pisses people off so much
I like doing that

Recipe, please. :slightly_smiling_face:

My daughter, involved with Public Relations for governmental types and entities, says we should call our Senators.

The part came in for Hubs car so he left shortly after noon to drop it off and I followed shortly after to pick him up and drive to the Stem Cell Clinic. He only had to get 3 boosters for the vaccinations he had in January. I gave a box of chocolate covered toffee wrapped in pink paper covered in multi-colored hearts to our favorite nurse. Put a note on top of the box wishing her a Happy Valentine’s Day and thanking her for the great care she gave Hubs and all the knowledge that she shared with us over the past 2-1/2 years. We both signed it. She thanked us at least a dozen times. I guess there’s not a lot of positive feedback over how great she is with the stem cell transplant patients. But I really didn’t want any thanks; I wanted her to understand how grateful we were to her. Her personality is so awesome!

When we got home, it was so nice, most snow has melted, sunny and above freezing 33* (felt like a heat wave), that I asked Hubs if he was up to taking down the nativity set since it’s supposed to snow tomorrow. So, the Holy family, donkey and sheep are boxed up and back in the garage, lighted star is down and back in basement.

Right around 5pm, the shop called and told Hubs his car was ready and they would lock it in garage overnight so we could pick it up tomorrow. I’d like to go at least by mid-morning so I could get another chocolate :croissant:

Supposed to start snowing by mid-afternoon tomorrow and all through Thursday so we will have an accumulation of ~6-8" by Friday morning. Hubs started up the snowblower to ensure it was ready to take on the job of clearing the snow away.

I wasn’t able to get on the computer yesterday after noon and not today until late afternoon so there were 57 posts to read. I’ve read 20 and now there are 51 more to read. Heck. Oh well, I need to take care of some tasks so maybe I can catch up later today or perhaps tomorrow.

Haiku wars are on
MMP so very sad
Shoe’s turn: she is it

My grand daughter Harriet is doing better with her influenza A with Tamiflu on board-no more racing fever spikes. Did a grandma sleepover with her last night so her parents could each get a full night”s sleep and my 8 month pregnant daughter could have a little more distance from the Flu A virus. Her ob has her taking an adult dose of Tamiflu prophylactically to protect the baby.

Went to the endodontist with my excruciating molar at 1pm. It’s unsalvageable (infected and huge cavity under the existing crown). That will be extracted Thursday by a periodontist-evidently it’s a complicated extraction because the infected roots might extend into the maxillary sinus. A implant would require a bone graft and I’m just not willing to go through that. The molar next to it has a small area old cay under the crown but that can be fixed in a month or so after the bone and gums heal from the molar extraction. I have a pain medication schedule of a whopper dose of ibuprofen and a whopper dose of Tylenol to be taken together every 6 hours for pain. Supposedly they act synergistically together. If not I now have a 24 hour emergency number I can call.

I haz a sad because I had a silly life bucket list goal of dying at 94 with all my teeth but it’s not to be. I’ll have to come up with a new dental bucket list goal.

Anyone know the rules for the tooth fairy and 75 year old crotchety old ladies?

Dry ingredients (whisk together in a large mixing bowl):

2 cups all-purpose or baking flour (240 grams)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp kosher salt
1 heaping tsp of Baking Spice (Penzeys: www.penzeys.com)

Wet ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar (198 g)
1 cup brown sugar (dark or light) 200g
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla (not imitation)

Cream the wet ingredients with a hand mixer until light. Add dry ingredients until just well combined. It’s important not to overwork it.

Add the following:

3 cups oats (not instant) 270g
1 cup golden raisins, or ½ cup raisins and ½ cup diced dried apricots (or substitute other dried fruit like sour cherries, if desired)
1 cup walnut pieces

Heat oven to 350F. If refrigerated, allow dough to come to room temperature. Using a spoon or a cookie/ice cream scoop, form the dough into 2” diameter balls, taking care not to compress the dough too much. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet or on parchment paper on a sheet, allowing enough room for expansion (about nine cookies per sheet). Bake for 10-13 minutes, or until golden.

The exchange rate is 1 year per tooth. One less tooth = one more year. So the new goal is 95 years and all but 1 tooth.

  1. Put a fragment, or a representative token if the perio won’t give you a hunk, under your pillow.
  2. Tell the MMP about it.
  3. Await the magic apparition of a gift. Or maybe a dozen if the various fairies don’t get their collective stories straight before clicking [Buy].

There are links to the three major credit companies. They will try to get you to sign up for a paid service but you probably don’t need that.

I’ll bet the card meant much more than the candy, what a lovely thing for you to do.

Heheh

Ain’t nobody messing with his lap! What a good kittah

That’s so pretty! I’m so happy to live somewhere with winter, it was lovely here too. I think we got four inches, maybe five because it was snowing while it was melting off.

We know how tariffs work and got stuff done (except the insulation) and bought before he was sworn in. Today hubs told me that his windshield washer switch finally gave up the ghost. I had been on him to get it replaced since June and the estimate back then was just over 600. Today it will be just under a grand. Murderizing is getting closer.

Well, at least you only say it in front of your long suffering wife, Hubs and HusbandBFF say it to people who have heard those “jokes” a dozen times a day for most of their lives. No haid smack for you.

And they are all the same size so you can sort needles into them and then group them in order. Yeah, never woulda thought that I could legally buy good flower but can’t legally smoke it, LOL!

Shots of good booze in exchange for the teeth.

I’m sorry that you are going through this. Dental pain is the worse.

I’m glad Harriet is feeling better, and hope you start feeling better as well.

So I didn’t go to the waterbed store today, the interstate was closed and they got 9 inches of snow in Charleston. I called them instead, which was the better idea because they didn’t stock what we need in the store. If all goes according to plan, I/we will be filling the bed on Friday.

Cousin’s husband is still not responding well to treatment and I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is, but of course won’t say anything to them. Hubs didn’t grow up in a vacuum, all of his family are anti-vax and believe that doctors are quacks who are just out for your money.

They are the sort of people who take antibiotics until they feel better and then save the rest of them in case they need them later. Cousin hubs is 82 years old, that’s a lot of time to build up some crazy antibiotic resistances and now that he really needs them to work…well things aren’t going well.

While I am not spending money for anything but necessities for a while, I’ve managed to justify buying a new kit from my favorite designer because that is supporting a small business (LLC?). This one doesn’t have nearly as many silks as she usually uses, I suspect she might be having problems sourcing them in this current environment.
