(Old) Can You Hear that Cranberry "Schloop"? - A Thanksgiving MMP

Looks like a lot of happy Mumper tummies tonight. YAY! We did not accomplish nappage today, so we be tahrd! I foresee bedtime in the very near future. Should be a good sleep.

While I was gone, Mrs W procured a 2-pound chunk o’ turkey breast, pre-made containers of gravy, stuffing, and mashed potatoes, and some excellent croissant rolls. It was all delicious. A nice feast for two with very little work.

The meal has been eaten. The turkey took longer than expected, but it was moist and a beautiful golden brown color. The stuffing and dressing were delicious, as was the gravy. The taters were good too. Finally, the asparagus was steamed perfectly and helped cut the richness of rest of the meal.

Now, I am going to take a little breather, then I’ll start putting leftovers away and pack up food for my son too.

So we had a nice little feast, got to meet C’s newest grandkid, and got some puppy snuggles from LuLu the Pom. They had homemade cranberry relish, instead of my preferred jellied unholy fruit obelisk, but it was at least tasty.

I made Spot a mini plate when I got home. He appreciated it.

Well, I’d do Bojangles and Yuengling(and Camel Filters back when I smoked).

Happy Thanksgiving Night! The feast was nummy. Everything turned out well, and Costco makes a mean pumpkin pie. My DIL was so tired, she fell asleep before dinner and then again after dinner. The dogs also had a long snooze. My daughter called while we were walking the pups–or they were walking us. I’m so glad son and DIL and dogs could make it down here.

I got an ocular migraine, my third this week. I hope this isn’t the start of a trend. I used to get them every 24-48 hours. It didn’t ruin the holiday, though.

It sounds like everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I think the English should celebrate Thanksgiving, as I’m sure they’re thankful they don’t have to deal with the fractious hordes this side of the pond.

Big hugs to all–but gentle hugs, so I don’t dislodge any turkey.

9pm here at Casa LSL. Yesterday Her Ladyship prepped a bunch of stuff. This morning we loaded the prepped but uncooked feast into the car and drove to Daughter’s in the morning, arriving a bit before 10am.

The Horde of 5 kidlets was in fine form. I spent much of the day with 3 of them sitting on me, or being carried, or just hugging me madly. Nothing more satisfying than arms around a gaggle of happy munchkins on the couch. Daughter cares deeply for each of them, but she’s simply spread too thin to give each the amount of personal attention they crave.

While there we had a simple kid lunch of sandwiches, then the feast at around 4pm, and dessert for them right after, and for the adults a bit later. The feast was turkey with stuffing, gravy, scratch made cranberry / orange / something compote, mashed pots, appallingly sugared sweet pot casserole with marshmallow topping (Daughter’s only must-have dish), garlicked green beans, salad, and whomp crescent rolls. Store-bought pecan & pumpkin pie were dessert. We left around 8pm (so 10(!) hours on-site) and just got home & put away our share of leftovers & stowed the various dirty cooking / serving ware to dishwasherize later.

The kids’ eating varied, with bread and mashed potatoes (no gravy) being the big hits. As expected. And the pumpkin pie. We did have an adorable amount of food in hair, on foreheads, and generally near, but not in, their respective pieholes. And lots of gleeful grinning, fork-waving, and squealing.

Her Ladyship labored almost nonstop that ten hours making it happen or cleaning up the wreckage. She did get a couple of breaks to play with kids or commune with Daughter.

In all a great success and much to be thankful about. Greatly thankful for the silence at home right now too.

*oof* Feastage accomplished, and leftovers put into containers. I had a glass of wine before dinner and one with dinner. Now I’m on #3. I wish I had some bourbon. Or akvavit. Or ouzo.

That is so kind of you, thank you so much! I always like to try things first and will be sending you my address in PM. Do be aware that I keep addresses and try to return favors so a random thank you package might arrive sometime in the next year.

My grandmother had a special dish for canned cranberry sauce, it was rectangle shaped and was wide enough for the jelly cylinder to be sliced and split down the middle to allow whipped cream to be piped into the center V. Very classy looking

I’ve found that store brands are usually pretty good but every once in a while, only the name brand will do.

My cranberry sauce was a hit, but that’s possibly because it was too cold to let the grandkids outside to run and they were super happy and wanting to play with each other.

I really tried to convince Mom to move in with us because she eats when I feed her. If she’s left to herself, she will eat if she gets really hungry and feels like bothering with something. I sure do hope you can change your MIL’s mind, eating is important.

Well, damn on the downer. I’ve been having more lately as well. I blame the artificial light this time of the year, I rarely get them in the summer. I’m glad you enjoyed your family feast despite the bother.

Our dinner was very good, one of the daughters made potato empanadas which were new to everyone, but very tasty. None of the littles wanted gravy until after Grandpa sat down and started complimenting BFF on the gravy. Then they all took their plates back to the serving area for gravy as well.

Hubs asked me to not bring cookies home, so the daughters all volunteered to take the leftovers. The oldest started divvying them up and declared that she got the extra chocolate because she was the oldest. Much laughter happened

I have two out of three. Grab the missus and come on down!

That’s an interesting theory. I’m going to have to see if that’s true for me, too.

I’m soooo tired. As my granny used to say, “I wish I were in bed without going there.”

Though some among us chose the tandoori turkey plate with subcontinental fixin’s, I had a delightful chicken tikka masala and my lovely wife had a lamb shank. Our more or less nuclear family plus spouses was joined by the kinda step-parent’s oldest and his partner, with a phone call with the other sorta step-siblings, one spouse, and two more or less step-nephews. Another set of calls to sister-in-law and the nephew and spouse. MIA was a step-sibbish’s spouse, who stayed home with the pets. My family celebrates the winter holiday at Thanksgiving, so I am richer by a pair of earrings, a scarf, a pin with Huginn and Muninn from Etsy, a couple of REI cards, and other gifts.

Deviled eggs, corn casserole/pudding thing, gravy I could have happily drank as a beverage …
Sweet Manager said I ate more food than she’s ever seen me eat before

I agreed.

After a brief smoke break, I went back for seconds AND then had a slice of turtle pie. Watched the O.G. “Miracle on 34th St.” in black and white with her & her momma - had a hard time convincing them I’d legit never seen it before.

They have two dogs, so upon returning I was sniffed very thoroughly by an extremely un-amused Monkey who finally sat back on his haunches, meowed very loudly once, then hopped into my lap to remind me by whom I am owned.

They also have a fantastic chicken pot pie. It’s better than what I make.

The gravy turned out well, as usual. You can’t really screw it up. Just put the drippings into a pot and whisk in flour to thicken. Heart and liver included.

Guests finally left. The fridge is full of leftovers. My BIL and my college friend’s partner got along really well, so that was nice.

Chocolate cake was great, as always. Cranberry apple pie was fabulous, as usual. So the crimson crisp apples worked okay. I’ll have apple pie for breakfast.

Coming up on two hours after stuffing and turkey. Once again, no sign of salmonella. :stuck_out_tongue:

I found myself napping on the couch at 11:30. Was clever enough to do clean up after eating, so that was a nice treat. Current VanGo thanks earlier VanGo for the effort. Now to real sleeps.

the mess they leave for you to clean up …

are you sure its not getting too hot ? sometimes if it is they’ll turn off by themselves…could’ve short too

the ood was pretty good my aunt was more obnoxious than the visitors this year and ot to mention I caught her cold so the next few days gonna be bad as we descend into xmas hell

ooohh my cousin-in-law turkey is pretty great when she applies herself .. but I wouldn’t of minded having that instead

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Happy(?) Black Friday!

Spot seemed OK with me smelling of Pomeranian. As opposed to Alex Catt, who slashed me hard enough to make me bleed through my pants, or Nelly K. Beagle, who took one sniff of the 15+ pets I petted, and said “WHORE.

Not if you refuse to pay your bail.

This year we had a can, first in maybe a decade, as we had a guest, He went home with 80% of it.

We love leftovers. Then, my famous turkey carcass soup.

This year mine was okay but not great, not enuf drippings.

Turkey, stuffing etc all turned out great. I got to cook it all. (My wife had to work until Dinnertime, the guest helped by chopping things etc).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a pedicted high of 67 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today shall be a day of the highest sloth and general overall uselessness. Nowhere we need or want to be and definitely not doin’ Black Firday. ICK! Nappage, day drinkin’, Netflix bingin’, and bein’ retired drains on society are on the schedule. Leftovers for when the need to feed arises.

So glad everyone had a good Turkey Day.

Nellie sorry about the migraine, but glad it was all good otherwise.

Lily yay for the loot haul!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!
