(Old) Day Trips planned in the MMP

Afternoon all. Skies are rumbling like my belly after not eating all day but no rain falling yet, still about 90F. Have swum and sauna’ed so no reason to head outdoors outside of retrieving the mail sometime in the future. Did do some bathroom cleaning and putting stuff at one place over in another place, so that’s enough of that. Planning for the trip up to the MMP/Doper get-together tomorrow, debating on just taking a paper map I draw myself or deploying my Garmin device.

Flyboy, very impressive–both the walk and the attire. And yea! for the raise and 401k boost.

Cupcakes, stay safe out there. Just looked at the national map and yeah, it looks pretty nasty.

Oopsie, thanks for the review of 1776, sounds like it was a success. And glad Bailey is fine and there are some good docs close to you if needed…and  for the folks that came while you were there.

nellie, sounds like you Docs all have good news; hope it stays that way.

Sensei, good luck on the extra job.

Taters, enjoy the hiking.

Pilot, enjoy your time, both with family and on your own.

wet one, Yikes! :astonished: :astonished: Glad you are OK and apparently power wasn’t knocked out.

OK, think I’m about caught up, need to watch some TV and think about dinner, so all y’all take care.

I worded the 401k company contribution poorly, but I think everyone understood. But just to be clear: The 401k match is up to 2% of your salary, not 2% of our 5% (or whatever) personal contribution. As a non-profit, the company only matches (up to a percentage) 401k contributions when it reaches certain income thresholds. Don’t reach the threshold, no company 401k matching. El Jefe says he’s been trying for 11 years (Has he been here that long?) to have company contributions regardless of in the income. (Also, we went through a spell where there were no raises for seven years.)

Howdy Y’all! The things got did and brunch got et. Then it was back to da cave for major sloth. Nappage and day drinkin’ have also been accomplished. All in all a pretty happy day here.

Congrats flyboy for the raise, 401k match, Magnum PI shirt & sorta-shorts, and all the high speed walking. Definitely easier to keep it than to lose it then work to get it back. You’re doing far more and far better than I am in that regard.

After I got done w y’all this morning I unboxed and assembled a couple of deliveries, got rid of the all packaging downstairs, sorted out a mini shopping list, then set off for a lunch in the next town over, about 10 miles up the beach. In the midst of a renovated 1950s downtown full of galleries & eateries there’s a fun fancy food court with all “gourmet” casual food and no chains or franchises. Think 20 food trucks, but each a fixed kiosk in a converted old warehouse. Sounds yum. It’s been over a year since I last ate there. A nice drive to an interesting destination. What could go wrong?

Upon arrival I learn it shut down 6 months ago. Oh well. A nearby rustic bar & grille served a very nice two-mojito lunch with a spicy Mexican-themed burger. A fine consolation prize.

Meandered home including a quick groc stop for some toiletries and a car wash. The wimmin folks had just arrived home when I did. Kidlet was more than ready for nap, but spent a long enough time howling in the dark instead of sleeping that Mom gave up & more Elmo was watched.

Walked to dinner at a nearby Korean BBQ place. Small, family-owned, & pretty darn good. Kidlet was in full meltdown mode by then, so we ate quickly & went home. Bath was next, and now more Elmo (surprise!). I predict bedtime is a) soon, and b) traumatic. We shall see.

One is tired. And so ends Day 3 of daughter & kidlet. Fun, energetic, and silly.

Cheers all!

Thankfully, that’s the one thing that Nelson has spit back out. The coffee grinder is just a few steps from his place setting and a whole bean looks kind of like a piece of kibble, doncha know?

I would go with the Garmin or GoogleMaps metal mouse. The turn off for the venue is easy to miss.

My mom generally either worked from home (child care) or part time, meaning that she had plenty of time in the kitchen. I never ate Kraft mac & cheese or Rice-a-roni until I was out on my own and Hamburger Helper only at someone else’s house. Mom, however, didn’t really teach us kids to cook. As an adolescent, my invalid granny lived with us. We had no washer / dryer at home, but did have a dad who got dirty for a living, a whole mess of kids and an invalid granny in the home. Mom would go to the laundromat on Monday and Thursday, leaving me to cook supper as the oldest at home (I was ~10 or 11). Granny would toodle out to the kitchen and sit at the table to tell me how to cook whatever was left out for supper. I didn’t learn very fancy cooking, but did learn to fry chicken (the first time was a legendary failure) and make gravy among other things. It was a solid basis for later learning.

My late sweetie’s granny was an old West Tennessee farm woman with both an electric range and a wood cookstove in her kitchen (and a drop down quilt frame in the parlor!). When we would go down for Mike to deer hunt, I’d hang out with Granny Sarah and learn to cook on a wood stove and a little about hand quilting. I am a fortunate person to have had both of these women in my life.

Houseirk is done, comestibles procured, 'maters and sweet corn picked up from the pop up produce tent down the street, a trip to the dog park made and supper et (a nice garden salad with some fake crab meat and 'maters and cottage cheese). Now to chill.

We walk the perimeter of a large shopping mall. There is a Top Golf location and a dozen medical buildings across from the mall. We walk a path through all of the parking lots. There is some up and down hills. We found the stairs while trying to extend our walk to 4 miles. There is a vacant office building built into a hill.

When the weather is bad we walk laps inside the shopping mall. Ten laps makes 3 miles.

I got my bread order the next day!
If anyone was following the fascinatingly interesting story of my bread order, haha.

We remember, MG…and glad you have your bread.

Hippy, that’s a pretty fair amount of walking.

Red, sounds good, you know the territory better than I do.

Pilot, sounds like the visit is going well.

Got some rain in the early evening, not a huge amount but the grass will be happy to take it. Looks like a good chance for rain tomorrow both here and up in Tennessee (hope the meetup place is indoors…). Got the dishwasher running, when it finishes I suspect I’ll be done for the night too.

Take care all.

Amen.

That is so funny. I loved that when he asked if you’d taken it before, you just said no without alerting him at that time it was for your cat. HAHA!

That’s the first thing I thought of (except not ax murderer, I was thinking more burglar or rapist) with the second being the need to relieve self immediately, if not sooner.

Hubs wanted me to mow the lawn yesterday so that the clippings would be picked up today. I’m best in the mornings so I didn’t do it.
This morning I popped out of bed and went out and mowed the front yard shortly after 9am. When I was done, the truck that picks up the yard waste hadn’t come so I got out the hedge trimmer and went at it on an evergreen bush/shrub that was next to the neighbor’s driveway and was close to encroaching because I don’t think it had been trimmed in at least 2 or 3 years. Picked up all the branches I’d cut down and stowed in the yard waste container and dragged said container to the curb, I was beat after that. Came in and drank a tall glass of water then upstairs for a shower. Felt more human after that shower.

Hubs decided he could drive self to chemo today. Afterward he sat in the parking lot for about 10 minutes. While he was doing that, I went Krogering. After I brought everything in, it started raining 2 minutes later so dodged the precip.

Hubs and I made chicken tacos together. He cut the chicken up while I cut up the bell peppers and onion. Then he sauteed it all with his own recipe taco seasoning. Unfortunately he was feeling very nauseated right when the food was done so went and laid down. He did end up throwing up and just recently came back down and asked me to heat up some beef barley soup.
The chicken tacos were delish and I ate some leftover potato salad with it. I’m hoping to make peach banana orange shakes a little later.

They were born here and we moved when SenGirl was four and SenSon was two. SenWife and I always speak Japanese to each other, and she kept up speaking Japanese to the kids. I would always speak English to them. They became native Chinese speaker and used that in school and with friends.

Both Japanese and English are definitely second languages for them but their Japanese Is good enough to talk to friends. They struggle in school, but they will get better as time goes on.

Learning lines is definitely helpful for them!! SenBoy has learned some new grammar from this play.

here on the Dope?

And had you read even the last dozen you would have found I hadn’t, either.

We had Caprese salads for dinner, but the lazy kind. Instead of slicing everything and arranging it nicely on plates, I just chopped some Roma tomatoes, quartered slices of fresh mozzarella cheese, did chiffonade on the freshely-picked basil, added kosher salt, and mixed it all tagedda in a bowl. After dishing it out into bowls, we put on our own California Olive Ranch olive oil and Trader Joe’s Balsamic Vinegar.

Sirens went off again around 9pm. I took my iPad into the powder room. No touch downs here and the tornado warning was cancelled after 10 minutes. There is still a risk of severe storms, but it is just garden variety rain and lightning now.

Well, I survived another week of irk and went off to the apartment complex to sign that pesky last document. I had been planning to pop into my place to measure for things like shower curtains but I found I was just too doggone tired to go out to the car and then back in, so I just drove on to my temporary home to eat and vegitate for a bit. I’ll go back to the apt tomorrow. But first, a good night’s sleep.

He darn well better appreciate that. His students won’t even notice. Mind you, I said it can be fun, not that it would be. I was thinking of teams of two or three tackling a room together. Silly me. But still, good on you.

What a purrfect description, consider it to be stolen!

Oh yeah, I always love dosing our jerkfaces, which is why I’m such a big fan of the stuff you rub into their skin. It tends to be much easier on MY skin. Good luck to you and Shadow.

If the landlord doesn’t mind, I can see no reason to not have lime green walls in your own home. You are decorating it for you, not anyone else. We have a hunter green wall in the living/dining area and our bathroom is has rose paint. My room is light green and I’m thinking about painting the doors and windowsill peach.

I haven’t been able to get up without using furniture for years, dang hip. That’s why I tried it in my room, because there is a sturdy desk and bed close to hand. I’ve been worried about falling in our back yard (privacy fence and deaf husband) so it’s good to know that if it does happen, I will be able to get myself up without resorting to calling 911. That would be so embarrassing that I would probably wait until I was having some serious heat stroke symptoms, tho, so it’s good that I will be able to avoid that happening.

Those sound like fine weekend plans, I hope you enjoy!

Gasps and finds fainting couch.

We got Rice-a roni because Dad really liked a certain flavor (I can’t remember which one). Of course, Dad thought that fried Spam was da bom so you can take that recommendation for what it is worth.

Despite Mom sewing and Home Ec classes, I never really got into sewing. I was competent, not inspired. I was allowed into shop the first year boys were allowed in Home Ec and learned how to cast old pistons into molds. We all pounded our molds into damp sand and then poured in the molten metal.

We were also allowed to play with explosives in science class.

It’s a wonder more children didn’t kill themselves doing routine class work.

Gasps and pulls fainting couch back out. What is it with all you folks forgetting that the MMP is the most important part of your day? It’s almost like you have lives or something, LOL!

I only brag about my successes, but a cooking failure thread would probably be pretty entertaining. I have a few stories of my own

I was able to see the label on the bottle clearly said FELINE, so every time he would look at the bottle and back at my body I had to struggle to not laugh and give it away.

This was the first thing I thought of (of course it was the first thing I though of when hearing about the Titan not having a toilet for the 8 hour dive). My bladder will allow me to drive home without urgency, but once I am on my road, it wakes up. When I get out of the car, I already have my keys in my hand (they live on my hip when not in use) and my body memory can get me through the door and over the welcoming committee in no time at all. That zombie az murderer won’t have a chance to get close to me!

So, after that epic victory last night…I celebrated by taking a salt shaker outside with me and feasting on tomatoes. Today I am remembering once again that yes, it is possible to eat too many tomatoes. The cherries are just going nutz and now the romas are ripening. Our year old pomegranate has flower buds but I don’t think I’m going to let it have fruit this year. Maybe next year, when it is better established.

I didn’t get my COVID booster yesterday because when they were running my insurance, it was denied because I had other insurance. After a very long time on the phone, I learned that apparently I had employer paid secondary insurance that started June 1. Happily, they believed me that I have been a retired drain on society for years so said they were able to fix the problem. Tomorrow I will call the pharmacy and ask them to rerun my insurance before I waste everyone’s time by making another appointment.

I really do want to get it before I go to Boise, I don’t want to show up sick. I’d really like to get the RSV vax but I can’t find anywhere to get one. As there is an outbreak of Whooping Cough happening locally, I will get that done when I can get my booster.

What happens to horses during tornados? /worries about Arial/

Glad to hear you are safe. Tornado warnings were a part of my childhood, and drills in school.

We’re going to Admiralty Head Lighthouse tomorrow. (I did get the Discover Pass today.) We’re going to Shawn O’Donnell’s Farmhouse Restaurant for breakfast. I’m having the Farmer’s Omelet and a side of bangers. (I’ll share the bangers.)

Omelet and the Bangers.

Band name!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s my Firday

Well, bread is important.

You didn’t take the ruby slippers? But glad it’s downgraded to just storms.

Slacker!

Boy, howdy did we have a toad-soaker last night! Booming and deluging just before sunset, but luckily, it doesn’t look as if it knocked any branches loose. Still, quite a little storm!

But I had a lousy night. Bladder woke me at 2:30, and it was well after 4 before I dozed off again, only to be roused less than an hour later by the unmistakable sound of a cat horking in the hallway. So I’m up. Hork has been cleaned up. Hard boiled egg on a tortilla has been ingested, as caffeination continues. So begins my day.

FCD and I are going to Daughter’s school today to test the soon-to-be-installed PA system. We’ll set up in the mess hall and hook up a few speakers to the amplifier. So that’ll be fun!

Lots of drama at the school the culminated with a board meeting last night. I won’t go into all the details, tho I’ve mentioned a few things over the last few months. Stepping back a year, Daughter quit because even as a full-time teacher, she wasn’t making even $30K, so she got a job with a local car dealership. While there, the former headmistress called her and asked if she wanted to interview for the headmistress job (after 27 years, she decided to take another job.) I don’t think the position was ever advertised and no one else was interviewed, and with three whole weeks of turn-over, Daughter took the reins. Old headmistress remained on the board.

It didn’t take too long for things to sour. I’m guessing it started when Daughter painted her office and didn’t re-hang all the photos her predecessor had on the walls. Then, it turned out she wasn’t going to do things the way they’d been done for the last 27 years, which pissed off the old boss as well as the #2 guy. Most of the board and the students liked a lot of the changes, but the old guard was not happy.

In the end, old headmistress quit the board, Daughter didn’t renew #2’s contract, one teacher quit, and just this week, the bookkeeper quit. Apparently the 4 of them were pretty tight. There were a bunch of accusations, most bogus but some accurate due to Daughter’s inexperience, which led to last night’s meeting. But Daughter showed up prepared to address what she’s accomplished, what her plans are, and in the end, the board was satisfied. Here’s hoping the foursome will just disappear.

Meanwhile, the whole school is getting new LED lights to replace the ancient fluorescent fixtures. They’re working on replacing the old boiler and the decrepit a/c units with mini-splits. FCD has designed and will direct the installation of the replacement PA system and a new computer network. The old network is a cobbled-together nightmare that will go away. And, of course, the big paint-and-clean-up is underway. Next on the agenda is purging a lot of accumulated crap that the old boss couldn’t seem to let go.

Oh, and Daughter hired a new #2 who has stepped right in with both feet - I think the two of them will work together really well. And next week, she’s got 2 interviews for replacing the teacher who quit. Things are looking up. Now, if they can just get their enrollment up… and get a gigantic endowment…

Sorry for blathering on - as you might guess, it’s been a big part of our lives these days.

Happy Saturday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 92 and mostly cloudy for the day. No rain is predicted, however. This will be a day of high sloth and general overall uselessness as we have nowhere we need or want to be. Perhaps we will go to the little bar up the road for a burger and a beer. Or not. I don’t see quality cee-mint pond time as happenin’, but nappage, day drinkin’, and bein’ slugs is a definite.

JtC I got a TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) booster from my PCP, so maybe you can ask your PCP about gettin’ one. I did not have to pay out of pocket because apparently this is covered by Medicare. Thus it qualifies as an olde farte thing.

MG glad you got your bread order.

MOOOOOOM good for your daughter. She was well-prepared to let the board know what her plans are. Plus most of the board and the students like the changes, so that’s a big positive. Hope she finds the replacement teacher soonest.

Y’all that are or have been in the path of tornados and such, glad you’re safe!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!
