(Old) Day Trips planned in the MMP

I’m glad that the storm didn’t last longer wet one.

It sounds like your daughter has a plan Moooooom.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll get a few things done in the studio before I go to the DopeFest in the 'Boro this afternoon.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That sounds fun!

That’s such a sweet story!

We’re going to Admiralty Head Lighthouse tomorrow.

That sounds fun!

That’s such a sweet story!

A farm wife with little interest in daily chores, grandma was a disinterested cook at best, and possibly a dangerous one as she ignored any signs of aging food. Apparently, she would just fry all the food on a large stovetop grill. First the meat, and would push it to the back when it was done, then the vegetables, so the meat would be overly cooked when everything was finished.

My aunt said it wasn’t until she had dinner at a high school friend’s home that she realized food could be delicious. While my mother wasn’t as bad as her mom, let’s just say that Hamburger Helper really improved the cuisine in our house.

I still remember the typical meal as a child, instant mashed potatoes, canned cream corn, artificial cheese for the protein and skim milk from powder. My father hated pepper or any other type of seasonings.

My wife wonders why I have a high tolerance for bland food.

I am trying to learn how to cook better, and not inflict the same fate on my kids.

Oh boy. Glad it’s getting sorted out.

My son is getting married here in seven hours. It’s beyond a little crazy here. Lots of other crises just to make it interesting, nonstop since June 14 and I do mean nonstop and unmerciful. (My health is unchanged, it’s not me, it’s the near and dear to me, which makes it worse).

They have the license, his sister is the officiant, so they’ll be married by dinner, no matter what, even if it’s in the backyard under a sprinkler. Supposed to be at least 90 here and of course Midwestern humid, with an air quality alert. Beer and wine got iced down yesterday afternoon. I refuse to ask “what could go wrong?”. The fates have been very clear about that the past month.

They leave on their honeymoon mid-day Sunday, then I intend to do my sacred Grandma day with the grandkidlets. I’m hoping to expect next to nothing of myself through Monday (pajama days) until I have to surface to adult again Tuesday. At some point then I hope to have the bandwidth and momentum to tell you all the tale of my last month. I may have to recuperate a few more days first. I read the MMP every day~you all are my tenuous grip on reality.

Carry on,

Mother of the groom, Boo.

Congrats!

Thank you:confetti_ball::partying_face::clinking_glasses::champagne::tada:. We all love the bride and we’re thrilled for them.

They’ve leased a house in Denver where his new job is, next is to find a rescue golden receiver to adopt them. After the honeymoon of course. Or maybe the real honeymoon doesn’t start until they have that golden receiver, st least for the dog. My new DIL works from home and has already installed a couch in her home office for said puppy. I like her priorities.

Good morning!

It’s 57F and clear outside, and the expected high is 92F with clear, sunny skies. It’s going to be a hot one! Yesterday, I saw a high temperature of 88, and I definitely felt the heat.

I never made it out for the errands, but I did wash my Jeep. I really need to get it in for a detail job so it can get a proper coat of wax. I guess they’re using ceramic nowadays, so that’s the route I’ll probably take.

Other than that, I watered my flowers and the front lawn and took care of some minor chores. It felt good to relax a bit.

We’re heading out to our friends’ place this afternoon and they live in a lakeside community. They messaged yesterday and said to bring swimsuits if we wanted to cool off in the lake. I doubt we’ll do that. Ain’t no one seeing me in a swimsuit right now! Still it’s going to be warm, so I’ll find the coolest clothes I have.

Congrats, Boo! I hope things go smoothly today and the past drama is just that, past!

FCM, I’m glad your daughter got the board sorted and that things are progressing. Change is hard, especially when it’s being instituted by the new kid on the block. I’m glad the rest of the board and the students appreciate the changes.

We did a lot of scratch cooking growing up, and a lot of it was German food. My mother, however, was not averse to the occasional HH or Rice-a-Roni side dish. My mother didn’t have much money, so we grew our vegetables too. However, she also had canned veggies, and I hated them. Still, I learned to cook independently and pulled out recipe books (both savory and baking) to learn. I used both German and American English cookbooks and used to bake German cakes and tortes from scratch using German books. While we were little, my mother didn’t work or attended dental assistant school. Once we got older, she got a retail job, so I often had to cook dinner for my sister and me.

I’m a pretty good cook, but since my husband has taken over most of the cooking duties, I haven’t cooked all that much. I still cook the holidays and most of the meals when guests or family come over. However, I sometimes miss my cooking and will make a meal even when it’s just my husband and I. I was a mostly from-scratch cook, but there were times Rice a Roni or Hamburger Helper made it into the rotation mainly because it was quick, I was tired, and I’d worked all day. Nowadays, I really dislike most processed food, all I taste is SALT, and there is some weird chemical aftertaste. Since I quit smoking over four years ago, my tastebuds have returned with a vengeance.

I already have the sprinkler going and plan to hop in the shower very shortly. I need to run to the store to pick up noshing stuff, a six-pack of Space Dust beer for the hubby, a bottle of wine as a gift, and some sort of adult libation for me. I still haven’t decided what I want.

I need to cook up some chicken for Polar in a while too so we can feed him before we leave. Poor guy is not going to be happy, but we can’t really back out of these plans now. I plan to leave fans going for Polar, and will put one of the box fans on a bucket with ice to help keep Polar cool.

On with the day!

Morniing all. Woke up to raindrops falling on my grass, but it went away a little while ago and we’ll see how long it stays dry. In about 3-4 hours I’ll head out to the MMP meetup up North, will try and remember camera. That should pretty much take care of the day.

FCM, sounds like daughter was able to face down the ‘old guard’ with facts and figures. I wish her well for the new school year.

Taters, enjoy the lake and stay cool.

BBBoo, my congrats to Son and his soon-to-be wife. Hope all goes well and Murphy does not put in an appearance.

Flyboy, not sure if I’m more impressed by the Lighthouse or the breakfast…enjoy both.

You describe my…internal functions…perfectly. Can drive 5-6 hours without a problem, but get within a few minutes of home…and then at the door…

Cat Glove, our clippings pickup is on Monday, so I always try to schedule my mowage based on that. Fortunatley I have no shrubbery so that is not an issue.

OK, rain has returned. Need to do a little more internettin’ and then get ready for the DopeFest this afternoon. Take care.all.

Admiralty Head Lighthouse is nice. (Here’s a TripAdviser page with more pics than the preceding historical link.) Realistically, it’s small; but it has some interesting artefacts. And there’s a good view from the top. There’s also the shore batteries with a couple of the ‘disappearing guns’. (More pics if you right-arrow on the guy’s page.)

But sometimes it’s good to have an evil, unhealthy breakfast.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 18c/64f and mostly cloudy here today. Weather app says “Shame shit, different fucking day.” That’s about right, it was much the same for the last couple of days - warm, humid, sticky, sunny, rainy, bit of everything. Today’s been mostly sunny with showers, some have been quite heavy.

Yesterday I left irk and came home with 'im indoors as we had arranged to meet at our home railway station and share a cab home. He was back from visiting his family in Scotland, and his southbound train arrived about 10 minutes after my northbound one so I didn’t have to wait too long for him. It was my turn to make dinner so we had spagbol because I had mince and mushrooms to use up.

Today I’s been a busy little bee. I was up early to feed the cats, change water bowls and clean the litter trays. Shadow decided he would accept his Thyronorm if it was on a spoonful of spring water tuna. I didn’t give him much fish, and he scoffed it all, so he got an unmedicated helping afterwards. Cats tended to, I went to the gym for my usual three classes. Came home and got changed, then went into town with 'im indoors for an early lunch at the Good Chinese Place (nice chappie gave us some free spring rolls today), then did essential errands, came back via home to drop him off, and went to the hairdressers.

My usual hairdresser was there for her own appointment but wasn’t working as she’s recently had surgery for potential breast cancer so I was allowed  to see a different stylist. Hair was washed, cut and dried perfectly well, and I had a chat with my usual lady on the way out. She’s hoping to be back at work properly by the time I have my next scheduled appointment and is happy that her recovery from surgery has been much better than expected.

Back at home now, got a restorative cuppa and am now waiting for the laundry to finish. Once that’s done and hung up to dry, we’ll head out to the supermarket as I need to make sure we have adequate stocks of cat food for the lady from Kitty Angels who’s coming to feed the mogs while we’re away.

Moooom Yay for Daughter! She went into battle fully prepared with fact, figures and a list of positives. She’s obviously learned from her previous experience and she’s come out on top again. Sounds like a proper case of sour grapes from the Old Guard so she’s well rid of them.

flyboy I am amused at the “banger sausage” since as far as I’m concerned, a banger is a sausage  Thus you have ordered a sausage sausage.

BBBoo congrats on the wedding! I hope it all goes well and the Gods of Murphy are looking the other way.

Taters enjoy the trip, and hope you keep cool! I’ve been looking at temperatures for the places we’ll be visiting in OR next week, I think I’ll just stay in the car with the aircon running!

Red and JtC Shadow had a dose of his meds without incident this morning so I’m hopeful that his favourite fish is the way to go. I’ll see what happens with this evening’s dose. He doesn’t have one that goes directly onto his skin, I wish he did! I haven’t tried peanut butter either, I think it might be a bit too claggy for him but it’s always worth a go.

Right…time to make another cuppa, deal with the laundry and contemplate the supermarket.

I didn’t notice that. But hey, it’s Washington. Gotta make it clear for the locals. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m more ‘amused’ that they split them lengthwise and grill them. Before the last time we were there, I’d never had a banger cooked that way.

vroom I’m so happy for you; new job, new apartment. :star_struck:

When I returned from TX, I rented the upper flat in my grandparents’ home from my aunt who owned it at the time. I painted one of the rooms orange. When you’re in your 20’s, it looked good.

BBBoo Blessings to the happy couple :clinking_glasses:

Note to nellie Since it’s a 1-3/4 hour drive up to Bay City and the weather was very iffy, we didn’t go to attempt to see the Northern Lights. Wondering if shoe was able to see anything on her side of the mitten.

Watched the Women’s Championship match at Wimbledon. I was rooting for Ons Jabeur; she didn’t seem to have the energy to get over the finish line today. Her second year in a row in the final without a win. Best wishes to her in the future.

Need to get sheveled and get to work. May go to the Fitness Center later today. Supposed to rain most of the day.

Hooray for Boo’s nooz. That is so exciting.

Sounds like except for the occasional tornado, bothersome hip, and pill-hating critters, it’s been a good day in MumperLand.

My today is … different than expected.

Last night kidlet went easily and quietly to bed. Surprise! Daughter has turned Mom = Her Ladyship onto a Netflix (?) series Suits. It’s about a bunch of angry unethical hypercompetitive lawyers competing to be the biggest assholes in each and every scene. I almost cannot imagine a worse set of personalities, emotions, and behaviors to welcome into one’s home or head. Yet both my sweet wimmins is eating that garbage up. Oh well.

Anyhow we make plans for leisurely beach breakfast tomorrow, and I go to bed to get the scheming lawyers outta my head. Yaay snoozing. Until just before 3am.

The phone rings the alarm noise from HQ. The good news is it’s overtime. Yaay money! The bad news is it’s suddenly [get vertical and hustle ass to work] time. Yipes.

Anyhow launch off into my pre-dawn silent prep, my predawn drive, and my pre-dawn park-the-car. Get to the gate and all sorts of novel crap is going wrong. This flight was supposed to have happened at 7pm, it’s now 5:45am, and it’s as star-crossed as it ever was. We finally drag its sorry carcass off the gate at 7:45 almost 5 hours after I was awoken, and we’re into the sky not long thereafter. Finally! Sigh.

Had a nice ride up to Hartford CT. Then problems with transportation to the hotel in beautiful downtown Springfield Mass, then mild issues with rooms for us. Now, shortly after noon I’m about to head out for light lunch. Dinner’s at 5 (probably Mideastern) and bedtime is around 7pm to get up and do the same tomorrow heading home. I expect to “sleep in” to about 330am. I should get home around noon Sun, and that’s not far from when Daughter & kidlet will be packing up to return to their normal lives.

Meanwhile here, minor adventure awaits. Not as cool as flyboy’s trip to Admiralty Head light, but this might be a fun enough weekend getaway for me.

It’s a lovely warm / hot day here. “Hot” meaning the locals are sweltering and I’m exulting. There’s apparently a Pokemon-themed ComicCon taking place at the adjacent convention center. That can be one of those “the odds are good but the goods are odd” environments. We shall see.

Cheers all!

While we were at the school this morning, we were talking to one of the parents (she’s the one directing the cleaning and repainting efforts) and she said the last headmistress was essentially a dictator - her way or the highway. The board merely existed to do her bidding. Now the board is involved with decisions and stuff - what a concept! This parent at least is happy.

We’re trying to figure out the programming for the new bell system The instructions are not particularly clear - both FCD and I have had a go at them. Next step will probably be tech support. At least we got the internet working at the school again before we left.

Dreary day, and it doesn’t help that I’m tired.

Being the suspicious type I tend to be, I hope some serious financial auditing has been or will be done. HM the Deposed sounds like the type who might well have considered school funds her cookie jar, and I wonder how much involvement the other three of the Gang of Four might have had there as well.

There will be a new accounting firm on board in short order so it will all be looked at. But I doubt if they were siphoning any cash out - it’s just not the big an organization. They’ve had between 35-40 students each year for the last 4 years - hardly a financial bonanza of tuition.

Nah, I didn’t see jack.

The power is out, and I do not haz a happy. Electric company confirmed they received my payment yesterday (I initially thought it had been shut off, but it’s definitely a case of “it’s not me, it’s you”) and the still air in my home is getting oppressive fast.

Good thing Gentleman Caller left a little while ago. He came over early enough for me to cook us dinner AND could stay long enough for us to have a leisurely morning and go out for breakfast.

I did tell him I wasn’t pleased about him going AWOL on me. He seemed to accept that, and the rest of the date was extremely pleasant.

Had a nice drive up the lake, one of my pieces at the gift store got some sun damage in the window, but it was an easy fix. Turns out the proprietor of said shop is on the board of a museum that is thinking about getting some exhibits made. I’ll need to make the drive again tomorrow as the person I need to talk to was out today.

pilot One of the Suits stars is now a princess of England.

I am the youngest of my siblings by eight years. After Rosemary married and moved to Tennessee it was just Mom and I at home. At age ten I got interested in cooking. Mom and I cooked together a bit and then it was the first one home would start supper.

Not long after that I had my first major cooking eureka moment. I was a Scout. On my first camping trip we were to bring a sack lunch from home to be the evening meal the first night. A man named Leo B. one of the troop dads, went out ahead of everyone and had started a big pot of venison stew on the camp fire so every one could have a little hot food to go with the sandwiches from home. It was delicious. This was sixty years ago and I can still remember exactly what it tasted like. I became Mr. B’s kitchen helper after that.

I have loved cooking ever since. My kitchen apron has my Cooking Merit Badge sewn on it. Mr. B was my counselor for that.

I spent my teen years working in restaurants and never lost my passion for cooking

Dinner, breakfast, and extreme pleas… in between. Sounds like a home run. At home no less. You go Girl!

Mazel tov, BBBoo!

In addition to attending to my lovely wife’s every need, including meds every few hours, I have run 45 gallons of 50 year-old rotted paint from under the house to the waste management yard, and stopped at the PO to pick up her passport. Nice to know that she can flee to Canada if necessary, and from there negotiate on my behalf. New chatty neighbor over and we traded some stuff.

I hated home ec and escaped to shop as soon as possible. My mother is a gourmet-quality cook. She didn’t teach us kids how to cook at all. When I went to college, I started asking her for particular recipes. She went from French to Japanese cooking as her go-to over time, and I mostly asked for the Asian-ish recipes. She still serms a little floored that I can cook.

My.lovely wife is going to remove the bandage and shower.
