Nothing much done, a few things cleaned and digital coupons clipped, will check water usage again in a minute, still running at 13 gallons/hour with no use by me. Call will go out to the leak detectors tomorrow..
I can honestly say I absolutely don’t remember that, but it sounds like something I’d do because I’m nice, dammit! And you’d only get fat from crab cakes if you happen to be a millionaire - them suckers are $$$$. At a local restaurant, the crab cake platter used to be about $15. Last time we went, it was $25. Now they don’t even put a price on the menu - it just says Market. So you dodged a bullet there.
Good to know. And who knows what miracles they’ll have in 3 years when he thinks I’ll need the surgery.
We have several 2 and 3 step “ladders” that have handles. That’s what I use. I have one I throw in the back of the truck when I take a load to the convenience center, in case I have to climb into the truck bed. Very handy devices.
Kitchen has been tidied. Carpets have been rollsucked. And the spot where Ziva peed in our bedroom has been carpet-cleaned pretty thoroughly. I think I made 4 or 5 passes over the area with a solution that cleans and deodorizes.
I chain-sawed around the path, going a bit farther into the trees than necessary, but some of the growth includes thorns, which is not fun when you’re driving thru. Or walking thru, for that matter. I also chain-sawed a little outside the fence, but I really need to do that with FCD and his big-ass chainsaw, which won’t come back from servicing till Tues.
Speaking of whom, he’s home with about 400# of lead ingots. Now we just need to decide how to distribute them in the bilge. That’s a chore for another day.
The sun is out and it’s mid-50s - looks like we’ll have a nice afternoon. I may go ahead and run some errands now that my sweetie is home. Well, in a little bit. I’ve earned a rest.
Heat men stayed 2 hours, used a blowtorch. Got it running. The thermostat is not going above 69 and it feels not very warm if you put your hand in front of the vents ( which are on the ceiling) but I feel warm and ok.
I had a phone interview for a teller position at a small credit union in town. I’ve been invited to come in for an in-person interview Monday at 10:30.
I’ve paid my property taxes and insurance premium for the year. I also payed my $273 cable/internet/VOIP bill on one credit card, and a small charge on another credit card. I have almost $12 left in my checking account! (I still have a credit card bill for the storage unit.)
I assume we’re going to Paso del Norte tonight. I’ll probably have my usual shredded beef taco salad, unless Mi Esposa wants to split an order of fajitas. (There’ plenty for both of us, and no leftovers to take home.) Either way, I’ll have to get a side order of fried jalapeños. (Why not, for a buck and a half?)
Mrs. L.A. discovered a charge on her debit card from a place called ‘declinefix[dot]com’. She called her credit union, and there were recurring charges for ‘vernskin’/’vernshop’. Not a lot – enough that people might miss them – but not nothing. The CU cancelled her card, and she’s supposed to get a new one printed while she waits at a CU branch.
I’ve got the dishwasher running.
As I mentioned in my layoff thread, my logins have been shut down, and I am now officially gone from my previous job.
Harry says they like green grapes so I procured a small bunch and put some loose grapes in a bowl by the back gate.
Possum probably isn’t that hungry, there are lots of bugs here. I saw it heading into the gully but did some looking things up and learned that possum probably doesn’t live there. I’m wondering if it lives in the unused sheds in our cat-sitter’s back yard.
They have two little dogs, but they are house dogs. When put outside, they run down the steps and round the side of the house (where the fence is still down), do their business and run back to the door and bark to be let back in. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them nosing around the sheds.
I almost always brought my lunch, but I would eat it in my car. Which got moved to somewhere that wasn’t the work parking lot. I wanted to get totally away from work and I also wanted to smoke as much weed as I could before I had to go back. My last job was across the street from a park which made it very handy.
Indeed! It always makes me happy to see that many birds flocking around.
Have you heard anything more about scheduling his cataract surgery? I had to wait almost 6 weeks for my first one and cataract surgeries are a big business here. (Makes sense, FL is the only state with more old farts than WV.)
You are a most excellent roomie and friend to take time off work and pay for a motel room like this. Do you have someone checking on Spot or have you left him alone for the first time since he enslaved you? Either way, he’s not going to be pleased by your AWOL.
I’m not worried about haters. I’ve just been on this board for twenty-two years as Maus, and change is hard. I also remember the whole Mr Sixx/Kaitlyn thing, which is something I’d rather not draw comparisons to.
You answered some questions about College Park, and (I believe) you’d recommended a waterfront restaurant.
I think I had heard that. They also eat a lot of ticks, so they’re good to have around.
We learned today of the tragic death of a young woman who we knew when she was a child in Portland. She lived next door with her mother and and grandmother and spent a lot of time with us. I think she was starved for a male presence in her life and liked to sit next to me and chatter away. The three of us would play games and chat. Acacia was her name and she was a precocious girl, very smart and very vocal. When they moved back east, she left her cat with us. We missed her.
Today, my wife was prowling the internet, randomly looking up the names of people that we have known, when she came across the notice of her death at age 18. Some shitheel either gave or sold her something laced with fentanyl, and she overdosed. A bright light in the world snuffed out by drugs. And while the asshole was arrested with two others for reckless homicide, no punishment will bring her back. Goodbye little friend. We loved you.
FCD wanted salad for supper, so we went to Olive Garden for soup and salad since I didn’t feel like going out to procure salad stuff (no, I don’t keep in in the house because it often ends up going bad.) Anyway, for my soup, I decided to try the Pasta e Fagioli - FCD said it was more like chili than soup. I didn’t much like it - I’ll stick with Minestrone in the future. Anyway, we’re home now. It seems we can trust Otis in the house for a few hours without crating him. So that’s good to know.
Tomorrow is, of course, Laundry Day, but I’m going to make an early run to the Mart of Wal to return some t-shirts, then to Aldi since it’s on the way back home. Nothing else planned so far. Chillage tonight.
That inspires me to do more research so I can attract them to our yard. Miss Peach’s Dad got bit by a tick and shared his journey with lyme disease. It sounded horrible and I am a wimp.
That is so sad, I’m so sorry. Fent kills so quickly and is a true scourge on the world.
It is a serious problem all over, its so bad that I had to be drug tested to get my MMJ card. I haven’t ever been drug screened before. I knew I couldn’t pass one so that ruled out most service jobs…government work it was.
Knowing that I could pass the test this time and wanting my card, I peed in the cup. The medical assistance showed me how the test strips worked and pointed out where it showed that I did indeed indulge in the Devils Lettuce.
It was a lovely warm day, so Hubs rode his bike to Huntington and then visited Ohio and Kentucky just because he could.
I did my errands and went for Mexican. I successfully parallel parked between two cars today. I’ve never done that before either. I didn’t learn it in school and (very long story) have never taken a driving test, so just avoided doing it unless there was enough open space that I could just pull up behind the front car. Parallel parking wasn’t really a thing in AZ, but it is big here. I got it figured out without hitting anything or stopping traffic so I’m kinda proud of that.
I ate tacos, drank a Margarita and then went to the patisserie and had a foo-foo coffee and a slice of German Chocolate cake.
Now I’m ready to resume our regular diet of boring and bland, LOL!
They left the Nashville area 15-20 years ago, so it had been forever for me. For Sis, the last time that she was at one was when her first husband’s grandmother passed because they’ve been greatly reduced in Houston. We both had their fish, fried okra and jalapeño cornbread, I had a side of cabbage and she had one of mac and cheese, so pretty much comfort food. The music playing was all from the eighties. When they’re playing your teen and young adult soundtrack at Luby’s, you’re getting old.
Me too! Hope roomie’s recovery is smooth.
I’m sorry for your loss, cookie. Even if you hadn’t seen her for a while, to lose someone so young to something so preventable is sad.
For me too. I’m a day behind and have three loads this week, so it will be stretched to two days.
In the now four states where I’ve been a licensed driver, I’ve never taken a road test either. In Indiana, where I got licensed at 16, if you had taken driver’s ed, you didn’t have to and every other state just transferred from the last state assuming that I knew what I was doing behind the wheel.
Speaking of driver’s licenses, Sis was renewed today by twenty minutes before her appointment. Me, not so much. The desk where you got your number approved both my proofs of residence (lease and a bill sent to me). When I was called to the second desk, she kicked back the bill, saying that a hospital bill was unacceptable. She asked if I had anything else with me that would work. I let her know that I wasn’t in the habit of carrying my mail around on my person. Then she asked about online bill pay and I told her that those don’t have the physical address on them. I wound up pulling up a statement on my CU app that did and emailing it. I got my temp license and will receive the real one in the mail in a couple of weeks. I am also now registered to vote in Texas. In a couple of months, I’ll have to go to the inspection station and courthouse to get the car tagged here. Joy!
Howdy Y’all! We brunched and then went on a nice ramble down some backroads. I drove and was kinda sure about where we were. OYKW said he was kinda sure as well. We got to one point where both of us recognized the name of the road and got excitated. Sure enough it led us into large and in charge Pelham, Jawja home to an ice cream shop with nummy homemade stuff. I had peach and he had strawberry. We took the main road back to da cave because we knew nappage would be needed after that. The temp got up to 82 Ferrets this afternoon so we had beerverages out at the gazebo.
Cookie so sorry for your loss. An OD is always sad, but even more so at that vrty young age.
FlyBoy appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the interview.
JtC that sounds like a most excellent day out!
doggio hope roomie’s surgery went well and that she has good drugs.
red glad you survived the DL ordeal. Glad sis and you enjoyed her bday lunch.
Oof. Thursday Date Night. Mexican food this week. I had a shredded beef taco salad, three fried jalapeños (that I cut up and put into the salad), and two grande Cadillac margaritas. Mi Esposa had two pork street tacos, beans, rice, and a couple of mojitos. Stuffed like a daemon.
SWMBO seems supportive over the potential credit union teller position over the USPS position. I was worried I might not find a job. Now I’m worried I’ll have to choose. Why can’t I just win millions in a lottery? That would be better.
FCMom, I have dry eyes and glaucoma, so I must use eye drops every day. Here’s what I do. With the fingers of one hand, I pull down slightly on the cheek to hold open the bottom eyelid. I look up while leaning against something, so I can’t stagger off to one side. I brace the other hand against my forehead, so it won’t wobble. When I see the dropper directly above my eye, I squeeze out the drop. It took some practice before I could reliably get it right. Remember, they give you more drops than you need because they know you’re going to miss some of the time.
Nobody has ever suggested pulling my bottom eye lid down like that before. I just used my lubricating eye drops and wow, what a difference! Thank you SO much!
That certainly would simplify things!
While I like the idea of you getting a USPS pension, I was wondering about your joints and the constant getting in and out of the truck.
Someone, I think it was Rocky, brought up DSL. I had no idea it was going to happen this weekend, how do you guys hear about it? Or are you just so used to it that you always know when it will happen? When will someone every stop this foolishness?
George starts whining about half an hour before gooshy fud time, hopefully this will make him happy
