Howdy Y’all! Laundry got did and put away where it stays until it’s dirty again. I decided on baby lima beans for vegetative sup matter. Sup got cooked and et, then OYKW cleanded up. I make good chikin ‘n dumplin’s if’n I do say so myself. Martinis were had for day drinkin’ as we were feelin’ all suave, sophisticated, and couth this afternoon.
MOOOOOOM sorry about the news on FCD’s mom. It’s a tough thing to deal with and maybe at her age and with her current health surgery wouldn’t be the best option. Also, go see your mom, especially if you have concerns for her health and so forth. I learned that about my own mom. On the phone she wouldn’t say much, but in person she would open up a whole lot more. YMMV, of course.
Coppertone glad the tooth didn’t need to be yanked. Did they give you any advice on what you can do to take care of it?
OK, all is not lost. I have arranged to move my web browsing time to after my work gets done. I don’t even get to do productive online things other than work before I start work. That plan worked this morning. I just went down the list of items in my morning routine until I got to the last one, and then went straight to work. Tomorrow I’ll be in office at meetings.
I am just planning on being useless between the hours of 2-5pm for at least the next month.
It felt good to get some work done today. Both of the big tasks on my list are complete. We have an upcoming state audit I’m gonna have to do some stuff for, including an interview where I, a painfully honest person (not by choice, I’m just a terrible liar), will have to talk about my job without mentioning the aspects that make me want to throw things. There is a part of me that feels like I’m failing at my job, and I have to find some constructive way to deal with those emotions. The important thing, I keep telling myself, is that I am taking steps to correct the problem and prevent problems from occurring in the future.
One fun thing, though, I got to write a job description for a grant intern. I’m so excited to have an intern! (Maybe two!) I love teaching people things, especially grants. I have so many ideas. It comes at a good time, as I am about to take on more work responsibilities.
My son had FOUR potty successes today at therapy! WOOT!
And I’m finally excited about his birthday party in March. All the cousins and their parents are going so we will have a full house. They all seem genuinely excited to come. What this means practically is I will kinda go a little crazy trying to make it great. My son is becoming more engaged and participatory in every aspect of life so I think this will be a meaningful experience for him.
No, actually. They said I should get my 5 bottom teeth pulled and get a denture. I wish they would put a crown on that one so it wouldn’t feel sensitive if I press on it.
I go in to do my 4 hours tomorrow. All 3 interviewers turned me down.
A place I had forgotten I applied e mailed me and want an interview tomorrow. Funnily, its across thr street my 4hour job.
Things are getting screwy at irk now. Those of us who have had limitations and restrictions long term are now being required to get them updated annually. It would have been nice had they mentioned this when the policy went into effect in September. Now, I have to go through the motions with both my PCP and the retinopathist to tell them that I can’t see low contrast stuff (the reason that I can’t do inspections) and be on my feet for more than an hour at a time. I’ve been planning retirement when I hit 20 years there, but I could, with a bit of effort, retire in 11 months. We’ll see.
It’s been a rough day, so I’ve pretty much skimmed. rosie’s sig to all.
If anyone remembers my post a bit ago about the cat that followed me and my neighbor to and from the store, my next door neighbor took the boy in. He checked and he wasn’t chipped or reported lost. Hes black and small for a cat.
Thank you for the hopeful thought, but it just got worse from there. Waited for another hour for Lyft to send a replacement driver…which they kept updating the text to say they were doing, but never did send a car (or never did in the 3+ hours this cluster you-know-what took). My train arrived at 3:15am. I got home home at 7am, oxygen long ago run out. I live 1.7 miles from the station, a 10 minute ride at most. A more traditional cab finally got me home, after 2 phone calls. That driver got a big tip. A tip more than twice the fare on the meter.
True. For years, until now, my Uber or Lyft trips have been just fine. Except Amtrak arrives once a day, at 3:15am, no choice as to when a ride home is needed. [to depart on Amtrak the time is 12:15am, which is probably safe since bars are still open and giving drunks home is Lyft’s bread and butter and the Amtrak station is right in the middle of the entertainment district, so wasn’t a problem at my departure hour since they knew they could pick up their next fare paying customer 50 yards and 30 seconds away[.
Absolutely true.
But, as a 74 year old disabled divorced person who lives alone, who has friends who you can ask to give you a ride at 3:30 in the morning? Not everyone my age even still has a car or drives, especially at night. Much easier said than done.
Until you get a driver who is… it’s illegal to accept a rider and than strand them because when you pull up you see your fare is disabled and are using a walker or wheelchair or a portable oxygen concentrator. It’s against federal law to discriminate because of disability. Hopefully I can make Lyft regret they did that so they are less likely to do it to the next person.
I intend to spend tomorrow filing official complaints with the approximate state offices and the county public service commission. I won’t be the first time I’ve filed ADA discrimination complaints.
Thank you~I got home 4 hours after the train pulled in 1.7miles from my house. In my much younger years I would have just walked home but that’s hard to do with a suitcase and two oxygen concentrators, in the dark. My kitty was glad to see me and has almost forgiven me.
This fairly describes my abusive driver, with an extra dash of ignorant and rude in how he did it. My son drove me to the Denver station in a Suburu Impreza 8 hours prior so obviously it could be done.
Trust me , it will be. Not my first rodeo as a person with disabilities. They pissed off the wrong gimpy grandma.
She’d be safe at my house. Then ‘bangers and mash’ could be on the menu for lunch.
I’m holding all of you in the light
Sadly, so true. I’ll be hoping that the best possible outcome can be made to happen.
Me too! I just had to go look that up and I want some too, to go with the bangers and mash and the bubble and squeak.

Glad to hear you didn’t need it pulled. I’ve had a touchy, sensitive tooth like that. A few weeks of brushing with a sensitivity toothpaste brought a big improvement for me. The added ingredient in sensitive toothpaste can make a big difference in just a few weeks of brushing with it.
… The active ingredients in desensitizing toothpaste are what improves dental sensitivity and makes these products effective: Potassium nitrate . This ingredient helps block the transmission of messages of pain from the nerves within the tooth to the brain…
All the major toothpaste brands make a version of it and it only costs a dollar or less more a tube. My favorite brand of sensitivity toothpaste is Arm and Hammer but then I like baking soda toothpaste. Sensodyne is the most famous brand of sensitive toothpaste but Crest and Colgate each do one too. Hope that works for you, give it a couple of weeks to work its magic and keep using it.
Ah, yes. I know that tiny mallet well.
So sorry to hear that. I know what a good housekeeper she has been for you for years. Good ones are hard to find-I’m hoping big time she is able to refer you to someone just as good to replace her.
Evening all. Finally got around to downloading Turbo Tax and doing the tax thing. E-filed with the IRS so i should get a fairly nice refund in a few weeks. The Alabama taxes got stuck on something that Turbo Tax couldn’t explain (at least on-line and I’m not sitting on a phone for a couple of hours), so I printed them out and will mail them off tomorrow; fairly small amount on that refund so not in any big hurry. Pedaling was done, soccer was watched and I sorted some papers that have been sitting on my breakfast table (that I never use) for forever, so I guess I had some moderate accomplishments.
nellie, those are quite the adventures in cabbing; haven’t had anything that close. Couple have been unhappy with the tips, but it’s a little different when you are a 6’2" male paying them.
IL, happy that the new bed seems to be working out, but tonight will be the real test.
That is some sound advice IMHO, FCM. Might want to check on that.
JtC, can’t say I blame your housekeeper for getting out while the getting’s good, Hope you can locate someone just as good as she was.
FCM, hang in there; now you have two 90+ ladies to worry about. Oh, and {{{hugs}}}
Spicy, welcome back. And taking those first steps are always the most important ones; you’ll do fine. And congrats to Wee Weasel on the 4-for-4 day!
Coppertone, I hope the job situation gets better soon. And good news of the little lost feline.
I am glad you made it home, and reading your message I am reminded of a favorite quote from John Dryden (slightly paraphrased here): “Beware the Fury of a Patient Woman”. Go get 'em.
red, are the bosses at your workplace deliberately trying to P.O. everyone? Sure sounds like it,
OK, have put the dishes away, water is off, and life is good. Catch y’all tomorrow.
MetalMouse, I am very excited. I got a flyer in the mail saying that Jersey Mike’s Subs has arrived in my city–and it’s not all that far from me! We’ll be sub buddies!
Boo, after reading your latest post, I’m incensed. That driver should be blackballed, and Lyft owes you more than an apology.
Spicy, so glad we’re not losing you again, and hip-hip-hooray for Wee Weasel’s trifecta of potty successes!
I got to wondering how much they cost. Naturally, Amazon has them, starting at under $10. Do they have any other uses besides dentistry? Tenderizing minuscule steaks? Calling an insect court to order? As a prop in the Teeny Chiweenie and The Chompettes version of “Maxwell’s Hammer”? The possibilities are…well, limited.
I think you should go and visit as soon as possible, at her age you never know when things might change.
I’m sorry things are so not good with MIL. Do remember to contact your local hospice, they are super helpful during the end days.
WhooHooo!!!
I have heard from others how hard potty training can be, I’ve also heard that once they get the idea, they usually figure out quickly how much better it is to be dry than wet. Peer pressure also helps…only babies wet their pants.
I had to do that when I worked for the state. My doctor would roll her eyes and make a copy of my first set of forms that she had not dated or signed. After a couple of times, I would stop making an appointment and just call the office to ask for an updated copy.
So…maybe you can just call your doctors’ offices and tell them your sad story? It is possible they have heard it so often they also know just what to do.
Retirement is great as long as you have the money to enjoy it, so look hard and long at early retirement.
I love black cats, they grow up to look like mini panthers. Kittens need lots of food to grow up into proper cats. Stray cats often don’t eat well, so are often small. I’m glad your neighbor is taking care of the little guy.
That is horrible, just horrible! I do hope sanctions do happen.
I’m glad kitty has almost forgiven you!!!
(I wanna make Toads in a Hole, but hubs is not at all interested. I guess I’ll do it like I did scotch eggs, make it, serve it and then tell him what it is.)
Thank you, she really is a treasure. She has already said she can’t recommend anyone, she’s always worked alone and the only time she hears about other housekeepers was when someone called her when their housekeeper flaked.
I was kinda joking about a lasagna fueled break up because I sure don’t want NF to react the same way. She’s my eclipse roomie, I really don’t want to experience it alone.
Oh, I totally get it. She has been wanting her old life back for years and I really hope she gets it. It just sucks for us, but we will survive!
Hi there! I thought I’d just jump in and say hello and maybe stick around awhile this time. What’s new with everyone? Things are a bit loony here. More on that later. Well, anyways, HI!
Chilly morning at the park, it was 24 feels like 18.
B/H mom went, but she was on her good behavior. I think she knows I was getting more than irritated with her.
The dogs loved it, and were much better behaved today. Misiu checks in once in a while, I never see Rayleigh, he hits the ground running and never stops.
My son has been working with them to use the doggie door. We’ll keep it closed until it warms up a little, you can feel cold air coming through. Rayleigh has it down and when he comes in, he has the biggest smile on his face. Echo is still a little cautious. The door has slapped her in the face a few times. Misiu wants nothing to do with it. It takes a lot of encouragement still.
I hope by spring all of them will be comfortable with it
I called the vet today to schedule their neutering. Next Wednesday is the big day. I thought it best to get it done while my son is laid off. And while it’s cold, so they will be healed to go to the park when it gets warmer.
Now the anxiety has hit me, I worry about anesthesia. I know neutering is a simple procedure, relatively speaking.
I called to schedule a gel shot for my knee. It just started to hurt, but I should have called sooner. I forgot it takes 4-6 weeks to get approval from the insurance company.
I was fortunate that one of my aunts married a man from Sicily, and his mother taught my aunt how to make spaghetti sauce and meatballs. Maybe other stuff too, but those two recipes got shared with my mother and then passed on to me.
I haven’t made either in a long time though, but I’m sure they are written down somewhere.
My uncle refused to eat Italian food though.
My son’s father was Italian, all of his grandparents were immigrants. He wouldn’t eat garlic, peppers, or onions, and he was raised to believe that tomatoes were bad for you. When I made lasagna for me, I would make a pan of either cubed ham with Swiss cheese, or ground beef with cheddar cheese in a cream sauce for him. I layered it just like lasagna, and he loved it.
I thought it was edible.
I’m sorry for you and FCD and your MIL, FCM.
Coppertone, you may want to try FoliGrowth for your hair. I take that as well as ThickHair vitamins.
Not only do they help with hair growth, but I feel better when I take them.
I get both of them from Amazon.
Homea bit early. Was supposed to close, but a few hours ago I started to feel … I dunno, just off. I put my head down for just a second (it felt soooooooooo good to do that) but when I very gently lifted my head back up, I felt even more woozy than before.
Plus my rib has been bothering me today. I cracked/broke one a few years ago, and now, every once in a while - usually right after I cough - I get a very sharp pain in the same spot.
It feels almost like some muscle or something is “sticking” to the bone. Nurse BBBoo can you shed any light on what may be happening?
On top of it all, my left elbow is sore as hell for some mysterious reason. Wahh!
Anyway, I wasn’t sick sick, but I just felt like crap and wanted to go to sleep early. I almost never do this, so I felt O.K. about asking. I only “lost” about three hours’ work/pay anyway, so it’s fine, it’s fine.
Plus we got tipped out today, so I have ca$h to take to the dispo tomorrow; that prospect cheered me up a bit!
Those intercostals muscles can be cranky. An old healed injury might mean a muscle is shortened or miss-attached because of old scar tissue, only to be irritated occasionally, like by a cough or big sneeze, thence to punish you with some pain.
If it doesn’t go away as quickly as it came on, some ibuprofen, or ice (like a bag of frozen peas from your freezer) for 20 minutes at a time. Or see if Monkey will cuddle with you in the papa san, purring on that spot like a heating pad. Kitty love can fix anything.
shoe, is there a county health department where you live? That is a super low cost health care alternative and the medical workers do care. I’m kinda worried about you.
Yes, thanky, but I need to know whats causing it. It looks awful and I feel awful about it. Since I restarted the D saturday, my fatigue has gone but hair follicles may take longer.
