(Old) Every Girl Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed MMP

Hey, Tugig! I was just thinking about you the other day. Dunno what prompted it, tho… how are things? How are your kids? You still doing cool news stuff?

Casey is holed up in her room and Ziva is staring at me, not quite sure what’s going on in her house. It’s quiet, which is a relief after invasion of the grandspawn. I’ve checked out a couple more e-books, which is a nice break from tablet games. Other than that, nothing much going on. I’m thinking early bedtime tonight.

Cheeseburgers on the barbie for dinner tonight; Mrs. L.A.'s with sharp cheddar, and mine with American. She had mayo, Dijon mustard, and tomatoes on hers. I had mayo, Dijon mustard, jalapeños, tomatoes, and avocado on mine. We both had some Trader Joe’s kimchi. (I’ve made kimchee before. I might have to make some again. But I’m not overly fond of the dried shrimps.)

Been doing okay - busy! I’m sitting down the shore waiting for the dishwasher to finish up before heading back to Bowie for the week.

Younger daughter just graduated Frostburg with an Electrical Engineering degree, will wed her fiancee in November. Older daughter graduated aircraft maintenance school and worked a job for about six months before her health turned on her and became unable to work; she’ll be moving back home next month while we regroup. We’ll get it sorted.

Work - well I have reached the stage where I am contemplating when I want to retire. I hit 59 next month; if I can make it to Medicare age (assuming it will still be there) I’ll probably drop out at 65. No pension but I have some money in the bank and this house was my parent’s, now mine free of mortgage. I’ll sell Bowie house at a profit so that will help.

Otherwise just plugging along hoping the world doesn’t crash around us. That dumbass parade last week was a joke to watch, and now that we bombed Iran I half wonder if something stupid will happen in DC this week.

Whatever, I inventoried our gas masks and helmets last week. Spoiler - we don’t have enough.

Anyway looks like the dishwasher has finished so I’m about to hit the road.

Nice reading up on everyone! I hope to stick around a bit more this time.

Notifications says it’s my SDMB anniversary, but I don’t see no stinking cake.

It says joined July 12th on your profile.

That’s my recollection, but I got an “anniversary badge” notice today.

Welcome back!

The apartment is vacuumed, Nelson bathed, Sunday dinner et and a load of laundry done. Now just riding it out until bedtime.

I did, too: if you read the notice closely, it’s for posting at least once in a 1-year period. You likely have several (as do I). Definitely one of the dumber badges, which is saying something.

Oh, how sad for her and everyone involved. Good news on the daughter front.

I retired at 62 and the insurance was eating most of my state pension payments. No kids and other sources of income, but it was still a bit of a hit.

I have never watched the entire parade, just the squeaky tank bit. I am a rabid hater of him and do all I can to avoid seeing his face or hearing his voice.

Now that summer has really hit, I’m almost regretting my choice of protest garb. (Handmaid outfit) Long flowing cotton clothing is cooling in the AZ desert, not so much in the humidity soaked semi-tropical rain forest we are living in now. The next big protest will be on July 4th, but if you in the mood, I’m sure there are people waving signs around somewhere local to you as well. (The capital is close and has trees growing around it. It is also very close to the Ohio River so it comes well equipped with skeeters too.)

Huh…don’t know what happened to the rest of my post but please know that attention was given and replies happened if needed.

I know I finished up with rambling on about how much fun it is to be able to read again and that I’m almost finished with the wool project I was struggling so badly with. I’m really looking forward to getting my final prescription so I can get some proper readers cut.

I like not looking at the world through glass, but I don’t like juggling readers and sunglasses. I’m used to just putting my photo-brown glasses on my face in the morning and taking them off when I go to bed, so that’s my plan for the future.

Got my sixth one as well. I presume most mmpers got one recently.

Doing the Swiss AC shuffle this morning- open all the windows wide to cool the interior and then shut in the cooler air while we toddle off to the office, which has adequate AC.

I own this book:

As a (very lapsed) Catholic, I read this in the “confessional” mode.

Been there, done that. Can be quite confusing upon “re-arrival.”

Ah, perimopause.

Me, too.

… and picking up their pizzas half nekkid. I have seen so much old man titties and fat lady side boob of our glorious rainbow of customers lately … some quite sunburnt.

Oops, pressed the wrong button and apparently deleted my last message. Having breakfast as we approach the Shetland Islands for our first adventure. Weather looks a lot like boo faes phone description and am glad I packed an umbrella.

2gig, nice to see you around the place.

FCM, when does your cruise sail and for where first? We are due back in Southampton early on the 21st.

And that is all my feeble brain can remember. Thanks for the good wishes.

Yes, the little winged annoyances are common, but they’re generally attracted to lights and I don’t have lights on in areas of the house that I’m not using so the hall/stairs/landing area is generally in darkness all the time. There are no non-feline obstacles so I don’t really need a light to see my way.

The cats haven’t shown any inclination to go outside, Blossom and Cherry have been indoor cats all their lives, and from the landing window it is a long way down to the next nearest landing point so they haven’t braved it yet. Muffin hasn’t left the room she’s living in, and won’t go near the big window when I’m in the room because she’d have to walk past me to get to it.

JtC - the glass is in the window frame, like a real window! The screen fixes with magnets onto the window frame inside the house. Something like this!

Thanks for the clarification on the odd badge.

Me, too.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave and be roasted alive.

“Welcome to The Straight Dope Message Board, here’s your participation trophy.”

It does sound like a CoE type Confession, though.

Also good for fighting off rabid puffins.

Despite being an ex feral Spot has no desire to go outside. Or at least not till I sweep up all the dirt and leave on the floor of that room.

Holy Father, how I have sinned.

My last pizza was a week ago.

chanting Three hail mary, my child. And a small pepperoni, but you must add jalapeño peppers for your atonement.

Oh, honey, that’s WHY.

“Things are good here, and I’ve nearly trained this weird hairless ape to do my bidding. Dafuq would I go back out in the rain?”
