(Old) Every Girl Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/69f with a predicted high of 21c/70f and rain showers. Weather app says “Fucking rain. Again.” What? We haven’t had any rain for ages and I need the heat to go away!

:champagne::partying_face::birthday:Belated happy birthday, Sticky Buns!!!:birthday::partying_face::champagne:

Happy Doperversay, Rocking Chair

No need to apologise, we are always here to listen when anyone needs to vent. I’m sorry your neighbour had issues with dog visits though, did she say exactly what the problem was?

Yay! Well done to you, and all of the volunteers, that is a lot of food to pack up for those in need.

Oopsie that is a beatiful pic, I’m glad you made it home unscathed.

VanGo sounds like you have a lot of interesting projects there!

We don’t typically have window screens in our houses, but this window is so big and we have it open a lot in the summer so we invested in a fly screen. It’s really just a big sheet of very fine mesh that fixes over the window and is secured with magnets. The window opens outwards so you have to open it and then secure the screen on the inside. Bit of a faff, but it works just fine.

The new drapes were fitted a while ago, they are beautiful! Thick purple fabric, with double pinch pleat headers, and blackout linings. Ridiculously expensive, but they do make me happy. This is the shade and style: Lyon Plum

I’m glad you made it to the train and it’s going in the right direction - probably the most traumatic part of the journey!

{{{{{swampy}}}}} I hope all goes well today and Jo Ann gets the send-off she deserves.

{{{{{lily}}}}} I am sorry for your loss

My weekend turned out not the way I’d planned! I was up at my usual time on Saturday, tended to the mogs, then had a cuppa and a banana before heading to the gym. I wasn’t feeling quite “right” but couldn’t really say what was wrong. Anyway, I couldn’t complete the class I’d intended to do, and had to go home again. It turns out the feeling of not being quite right was the onset of gastroenteritis. I spent 24hrs in bed, mostly dozing, and am now kind of back in the land of the living.

It’s been 28hrs since my last cup of tea…

I slept a full 7 hours. It sounds great, but now I must wait a half hour to eat after my levothyroxine.
I will be off to church, then cillage inside.

And, surprise surprise, I was wrong about having my sewing finished. I was in bed reading and suddenly realized the stupid mistake I’d made on the weather cloths. We’re talking major dumb!! I’ve been mulling it over and I don’t know if there’s a quick fix. Must think… It’ll be a miracle if I get it fixed today. Dammit.

I told Daughter she needs to come over today to learn how our new mower works - they’re going to keep our lawn in check while we’re gone. Well, that turned into a family dinner. I’ll order Chinese delivery.

It’s so weird - our cruise has been all about the planning so long, it’s unreal that we’ll finally be going this week. It doesn’t seem right. Just weird. And I need to move all our luggage and stuff out of the guest room before Casey gets here. She’s spent the last 2 nights at Daughter’s but tonight she’ll be here.

I actually downloaded a book from the library last night. I haven’t read in ages. I need to see how many are on my tablet in case I get a reading urge while we’re away.

And so the day begins. Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth. Emphasis on afternoon sloth, since today’s high is gonna be 97 degrees Ferret Height(36 Centipedes). Which is going to be the coolest day for the week.

The sell those on the As Seen On TV aisle in stores here.

:scream:

I’m glad you’re beginning to feel better.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, dinner in the crock and fixing to do KP. I need to vacuum and bathe Nelson today. Other than that, sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Belated happy birthday, godbod! :birthday_cake:

Today begins our heat wave (it’s already 80°F); even the overnight lows will be high. Ironically, it won’t break until early July:

My preferred indoor temp simply won’t be possible to maintain for a while, so I’ve upped the thermostat setting in an effort to help the heat pump not have to work quite as hard. Running the fan in whatever room I’m in will help, as will keeping the blinds/front door closed in the afternoons. And I’ll definitely be using my “sunbrella”: for a few hours every afternoon there’s no shade on my patio, and it can be brutal in the warmer months, so last year – after only 10 years here :woman_facepalming: – I got a UV protection travel umbrella to use when I’m outside with Bailey. It makes a huge difference! In fact, I should have brought it to the outdoor arts festival I went to with my BFFs last month.

Dinner with my dad and brother went well. Apparently traffic was kind of bad for them (they drove separately), but somehow we each arrived at the same time – I actually followed my dad’s car into the parking lot, and while parking I got a text from my bro that he was also there – and got there 10 min early. I’d been planning to order spaghetti marinara, but when the waiter told us the specials my brother and I both decided to get the gnocchi in bolognese sauce. Yum! The dumplings were quite filling, so I’m looking forward to having the leftovers for lunch. The only issue was that the restaurant got extremely noisy as the dining room filled up: put a room rull of people 50+ in a space with absolutely no sound baffling, and it quickly gets loud. My father has some hearing issues, and conversation became so challenging for him that he skipped dessert…I’d never seen that happen before! LOL! The only other time we’d been there was on Christmas, and it wasn’t nearly that loud (we were also in a different part of the restaurant in December). Afterwards we stood outside and chatted for a bit, but then they were both ready to head home. We’ll see each other again in the fall for Dad’s/my birthdays (3 weeks apart), and we made loose plans to see 1776 at Ford’s Theatre in the spring for my brother’s birthday. It’s one of the few shows that all three of us love; I’ll remind them and buy the tickets in 6 months.

My only plans for the rest of today are to do laundry (just one load), and maybe get some reading in.

I’m jealous: I also had to take a summer class my senior year, and wasn’t allowed to walk with my class in May! That sucked almost as much as failing a class my last semester did. I could have walked in the December ceremony, but it wouldn’t have felt right (not to mention I would have needed to drive to Philly from Baltimore for it). When I finished my master’s degree and walked in that ceremony, it was a little more special.

Ha! :joy:

Whatever goes on behind the scenes, I’ve always found the tracking to be mostly reliable. Not that deliveries don’t ever get delayed, or that the tracking info isn’t ever undecipherable, but when I finally see “expected on x date by y time” it’s usually pretty good.

 …but when I think about it, I’m not surprised!

Oh, no…I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

A more reliable indicator of illness than any other symptom!

Have you been able to have The Talk with FCD to ensure he’s not hiding something that might get him airlifted off the ship?

I’m trying to get myself in gear and go to the local Walmart. It’s the last day to pick up a prescription refill and I’m dangerously low on TP and Diet Coke so I have to go, I’m just finding motivation difficult to find.

I’ll be going to a watch party at my sister’s house later this evening. It’s the final game between the Thunder & Pacers and the winner will be the NBA champs. Neither team has ever won the national championship before, and while I obviously hope the Thunder wins, the Pacers have proven to be a heck of a team and they certainly deserve it if they win.

What does that mean/stand for?

Sorry but I find this fascinating for some reason. Are flies, mosquitos, gnats and other small winged annoyances not common there in the evenings/overnights when you need to open the windows to cool off the house? And how do you keep the cats inside?

Beautiful curtains, btw and sorry you had a distressing day…

I hate this so much - I keep hoping the “industrial” trend will finally die for restaurants and they go back to having decor, etc. that helps keep the sound from building to deafening levels.

Oh, it wasn’t “industrial” decor at all: it’s an old-school-Italian restaurant, with linen tablecloths and napkins and plenty of crap on the walls. The room just had terrible, terrible acoustics when it was full.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 59°F and cloudy. It’ll remain cloudy throughout the day, with an expected high temperature of 72°F. Not much of a summer day, but that’s fine.

Lily, I’m very sorry about your friend.

Happy Belated Birthday, GodBod.

Re: the industrial trend in restaurants. I really miss quiet dining. Everything becomes so loud and I can’t hear what the people I’m with are saying.

I was right about my friend cancelling on going to the wildlife refuge due to rain, but we opted to meet for lunch downtown. Parking was a hassle because not only was something going on at the fairgrounds nearby, but it was also Farmer’s Market Day. Nevertheless, I found a spot, walked a couple of blocks, and eventually met up with my friend at the park. We walked to a diner not far from there, ordered food, and chatted for 2.5 hours. Still, it was nice. No worries about occupying a needed table, there were plenty available.

We caught each other up on our lives, chatted about our pets, and made plans to try to get together every month. I’m not positive it’ll happen every month, but maybe it’ll work out.

Laundry is definitely on today’s agenda. I’ll have to dust and probably roll-suck, too. If the dusting and roll-sucking don’t occur, I need to get out to the yard and do some tree trimming. My neighbor’s hazelnut tree branches have grown out of control and are now covering my entire backyard area. For perspective, the bed is about 10 feet wide. One corner of my yard is now a very dark cave, so I need to trim the bushes back.

Time to get on with the day.

We’ve talked. I think what’s most reassuring is that he won’t be able to do any physical work for 4 weeks, apart from some walking. Most of our excursions are sightseeing via bus. But no manual labor in a workshop. I’m not going to pursue it any further - we don’t need to fight.

They have arrived. Laterz!

Same.

It’s “popsicle season” for me!

All these assholes lovely people are enjoying the Lakeshore, going “Wheeeee! It’s summmmmmmmmer!” and I’m huddled in the walk-in, making out with a popsicle, whimpering, “It’ll snow again .. right?”

Good evening all (well, it’s after 9pm where I am, somewhere east of England heading for the Shetland Islands tomorrow), where we will see ponies, puffins, and scenery…but all in the rain. Today was catch-up day with my old friends and alsp nappage as the last few days have been exhausting. Also managed to get to the gym and worked out some and after dinner I visited the Casino and won 50 British pounds, so that made for a good day. Much cooler here, high was about 58F and probably is not going to get any warmer.

Have continued to follow everyone but just can’t manage to get myself to respond, but thinking about you all.

Take care now.

Happy Sunday, chums! Today is my day of rest. I really need it as for some reason I didn’t sleep much last night. Maybe I was overtired from walking to the falls yesterday.

Speaking of which, when I arrived at the falls, I was oddly disinclined to go to the big (upper) falls, so turned the other way and went on a bridge near the lower falls. Just ahead of me was a family of mom, dad, bambino, and curly-mopped 3- or 4-year-old. She was a few steps behind the parents. I thought, “Boy, it’d be awful if she climbed up on the bridge rails,” and instantly, she did just that and leaned way over. I gasped loudly and started running toward her, but the dad heard me, turned, lunged, and scooped her up, scolding her in a panic. Whew! That was a close one! I don’t know if I’d have reached her in time. Why didn’t I shout instead of gasp?

The kids will be calling soon. Which one will win this week? We’ve had a mock competition going. The first one to call gets to be line leader for the week. If you remember your grade school days, it’s a prestigious position. True, they live several hundred miles apart. I tell them to line up their respective spouses and critters and have a little parade around the block. I like to imagine party hats and kazoos.

GodBod! Happy Birthday! Hey, every day’s a birthday: there’s no rule saying you can only celebrate every 365/366 days, right? I hope this year brings you much joy.

BooFae, I’m glad you’re back to the land of the living. Whew! I would also like to know about the no-screens situation.

FCM, I’m getting excited about the cruise coming up so soon! Wouldn’t it be fun if you and MetalMouse were on ships that passed in the night? I wish we had a decent Chinese restaurant that delivers around here. I’d have to keep it a secret from my DIL, who shudders at westernized Chinese takeout like my mother did at canned spaghetti.

MetalMouse, I hope you get a chance to snap photos of the puffins despite the rain. Thanks so much for letting us travel with you. And congrats on the $67 dollars American. (I THINK I converted that right.)

I hope you made it buy you dinner first.

Wait, what? Where does the big piece of glass go?

Right? Enquiringly minds want to know!

Lovely curtains!

:people_hugging:

Well, at least it counts. I hope you get more!

Oh no, I’m so sorry. I’m jealous of your fireflies. I’ll bet its because you don’t mow as often as my obsessed husband. I know that’s why most of the fireflies are in the unmowed gully.

I’m hoping to get a couple of tomatoes out of it. I refuse to add up the costs of getting everything set up, I don’t think I could eat a five hundred dollar tomato.

Should we contact your emergency services for you?

I just know you are going to have a great trip and come home all relaxed and refreshed!

It’s not supposed to get that hot here, but the nights will be pretty warm as well.

We will be able to keep the place cool enough that hubs won’t melt, but I’m not looking forward to our electric bill next month.

Been there, done that. Often.

I wonder if waterbeds might be something for you hot folks to think about. I’ve pulled the thermal mattress pad off his side of the bed and he is happily sleeping on a very cold mattress. That’s too cold for me so I have a medium pad and my side is just cool, not cold.

Waterbeds are not that spendy anymore and we have never had a cat put a hole in one.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and I verged. No one got hurt and the place didn’t burn down, so it was a win. Sammich lunch and nappage were greatly appreciated. We were glad to be inside in the a/c. It’s definitely summer. I need to accomplish mowage tomorrow. I do not want to. However it would not be a good idea to put it off as tomorrow will be the coolest day of the week with a high temp of only 93 ferret heights.

I laid down, accidentally taking a nap. Right now I’m doing laundry. Tomorrow I will get up early to go get groceries before its too hot out.

Watching Jaws for about the 45th time. I watch it anytime it’s running on tv, don’t know why. It was in the 90s for the second day, more of the same tomorrow. Went to the barn at 12:30, brought in Ariel and her next door neighbor. They got hay, fresh water, fans blowing on them. They peed, and took naps. Will repeat tomorrow. Came home and made taco salad. Yum.

Howdy everybody!

Just happened to check in to see how everyone is doing.

Nice to see so many familiar names still around.

We’re mostly good. Stick around!

Spot’s Terrible, Not So Great day
So I decided to weigh the butterball, which meant picking him up and holding him while we both were on the scale. He hates being picked up. Then when I was vacuuming my room, I didn’t know he was under the bed, so I spooked him when I cranked the rollsuck supreme, and he ran around in terror for a minute till I opened my bedroom door. But after some sulking and smiting me a few times, he’s back to normal(for cat values of normal). I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and poke loin, as usual.

Update: Spot has noticed a flickering sunbeam on the carpet, and declare jihad on photons.

The sort tables are 50’x50’(or so) inclined tables that the belt system feeds boxes into, then the sorters take the boxes and toss them into the train of giant cages.

You, too.

They could throw the Secret Mumper Hand Signs at each other.

I also did this.
