(Old) Every Girl Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed MMP

Fixed the weather cloths - we’ll (I hope) install them tomorrow. No tidying, tho. The basement is a mess but I’m done.

The Alexa speaker down there is going deaf. Not sure if it’s failing or if it needs a reboot. It’s the oldest of the lot - the one we bought the in-laws for Christmas 2019 when they lived in Ocala and before the dementia was evident. It’s one of the tall ones, so probably close to the end of its sad little life. The only recommendations I could find are power off for 30 secs, then plug it back in, or do a factory reset, which is a bit of a pain. Not now, tho. Later.

Time for a break.

I’ve tried stabbing the mole. I’ve tried setting traps for the mole. This year, Mrs. L.A. tried poisoned worms to kill the mole. (We’ve avoided poison in case a cat catches it.) The mole endures. So today she spread grub killer over the lawn, with the idea of starving it out.

I ordered the DVD complete series of My Favorite Martian today.

Well, it’s 9 pm here as well sail down the Southern coast of England heading towards the English Channel. Train got there fine, but some friends I were with trusted Google maps instead of their eyes so we walked about 40 minutes to get there. Check-in was easy but this is one BFS {Big F******g Ship) so finding my way around took what remained of my energy. Good dinner and renewed some old acquaintances but will be off to bed soon, tomorrow is a 'sea day’s so will be taking it easy. But still limited to my phone so hard to keep up, but welcome back Godbod, glad the news is mostly good. And all the rras or you take care too.

What a great guy and how awesome was it that you could enjoy your treat!

I’m also glad you figured out your tumbler before replacing instead o fafter!

We do and they are delightful! The closest I came to them before coming to WV the first time was at Disneyland. They are nothing like the ones in the Pirates of the Caribbean, LOL! I like to go out at dusk and look down at the gully to watch the fireflies flash and the deer graze while the sky turns black.

I’ve seen a couple of water beetles in the house but mostly we get flies. GG and Jolene have NO idea what to do once they’ve caught something, they usually just let it go again. Steve, the best cat in the world, ate bugs to survive while he was living the feral life. Bugs didn’t have a chance around him.

Watching hot-air balloons is just fun, I don’t care where you live. I’m glad you got to enjoy it.

While you know your husband better than anyone else after all these years and normally I’d start worrying too…but you have been stressing over this trip for weeks. I hope you are wrong.

You are retired. As long as everyone is fed and nobody is living in squalor, your time is yours to do with as you please. This is why you worked so hard for so long, enjoy it!

I’ll bet that comes with some good bread, I’d enjoy it as well.

Indeed, we are all human here!

Our cat with leaky eyes would get worse when she was stressed. Poor Sadie has had a few stressful days of late, here’s hoping that is the only issue.

Happy birthday! It sounds like all is going well, thanks for updating us.

Does OT help your retirement fund? Are you seeing fewer packages being shipped still? Our UPS guy was here after 2100 the other night which I thought was just insane.

I’ve started freezing the water bottles I put out for them, I’m comfortable at 80F, folks out this way just aren’t that used to it.

It sounds like you will need it after all the walking you did today! I’m so glad you are enjoying your trip despite all the minor issues.

So we are now under the heat dome. It was up to 94F earlier, but we know that the temp will start dropping as soon as the sun sets.

I’m so happy we had all of that work done to the house, last year the heat pump was struggling to keep the house at 78 and we couldn’t open the windows at night. It was not fun.

I’ve been putting ice cubes in my fuchsia plant’s pot but today I gave up and put it on the porch, out of the sun. I’ll put it back out when it cools down again.

That poor suffering tomato plant is dead. While I agree that slugs caused some of the damage, I’m blaming the plastic grow bag for the root rot. The soil was way too wet, which tells me that it wasn’t draining properly. I’ve got my lemon tree in a felt bag and that soil reacts very differently.

This evening, I’m going to plant radishes in that bag and see how they do.

Every new garden is a learning experience, this one is just taking me longer because I’m not used to magical sky water falling on a regular basis.

Went in and filled out the application completely. Now I await the e mail offer of employment.
I go in tues so she can make copies of my i.d.s

True enough. She’s gone back to hiding under the bed or in my closet, poor thing. Youngest son and his brood are coming tomorrow, which may stress her out again. We’ll see.

Windy as :angry_face_with_horns: here in western Mitten State.
Did you know a small cheese pizza can get loft? Not ezzactly blow away, but you can feel the impending takeoff.

Howdy Y’all! Jo Ann’s funeral, while sad, was also a joyful time. Great memories were shared and the attendance was good. The brunch was nuttin’ short of fantastic! I mean Sunday after church dinner at granny’s good! The person who coordinated it did an awesome job. When I complimented her on her hard work, she told me she actually called folks and told them what to bring, because while first Sunday brunch bein’ a potluck is fine, this had to be special. We have not wanted anything else to eat today cause we had such a serious chow down. Needless to say nappage was needed upon arrival back at da cave.

Rocker happy doperversary!

GodBod glad everything is goin’ so well. Seems you are enjoyin’ the gig and yay for bein’ almost done with kolledge.

Coppertone appropriate/inappropriate appendages are crossed.

And now this…

I’m glad Jo Ann’s funeral was meaningful.

A friend of mine died today, having been diagnosed with CJD last month. It puts minor grievances in perspective.

If we don’t wake up vaporized in the morning, the Fourth of July is the next call to protest. Be there or be square.

I’m sorry for your loss. Dementia sucks.

How? I didn’t think CJD still happened.

The cases caused by eating the wrong meat (bovine usually) have become very rare in North America and Europe.

There are multiple other causes unrelated to that:

CJD is caused by a protein called a prion. A prion causes normal proteins to fold abnormally. This affects other proteins’ ability to function.

CJD is very rare. There are several types. The classic types of CJD are:

Sporadic CJD makes up most cases. It occurs for no known reason. It starts on average at age 65 years.

Familial CJD occurs when a person inherits the abnormal prion from a parent (this form of CJD is rare).

Acquired CJD includes variant CJD (vCJD), the form related to mad cow disease.

  • Variant CJD is caused by eating infected meat. The infection that causes the disease in cows is thought to be the same one that causes vCJD in humans.
  • Variant CJD causes less than 1% of all CJD cases. It tends to affect younger people. Fewer than 200 people worldwide have had this disease. Almost all cases occurred in England and France.
  • Iatrogenic CJD is also an acquired form of the disease. Iatrogenic CJD is sometimes passed through a blood product transfusion, transplant, or contaminated surgical instruments…

From MountSinai.org

I was a student nurse at Mass General Hospital 44+ years ago. The most harrowing patient I took care of in those years was a man with CJD. I cared for him and his family in his last weeks. Never before and never since have I seen a disease as cruel and devastating.

I will hold good thoughts for you and your friend’s loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.

Are you thinking of mad cow disease? That’s vCJD (variant). CJD is rare, but not gone. There’s likely a genetic component to some cases, and the cause of most cases isn’t known but isn’t from eating contaminated animals.

The incidence of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a universally fatal prion disease that progresses rapidly, rose consistently from 2007 to 2020, a study of death certificates showed.

CJD codes on death certificates totaled 5,882 during that period, with 51.2% of cases occurring among women, according to John Probasco, MD, and Matthew Crane, BS, both of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, and co-authors.

From 2007 to 2020, the incidence climbed from 1.06 to 1.58 per million in women (P<0.001) and from 1.05 to 1.47 per million in men (P=0.001).

After adjusting for age, the increase in incidence was not significant for men (P=0.25) but remained significant for women (P=0.045), Probasco and colleagues reported in a JAMA Neurology research letter.

CJD is the most common form of human prion disease. Approximately 85% of cases are sporadic and 15% are genetic. About 70% of people with CJD die within 1 year.

I’ve only heard of CJD coming from cattle and sheep.

Kind of up and down napping, frickin’ Daywalkers were up and frolicking today, as was Spot. Having a La Lousiane, and the usual Asian BBQ stirfry

[Carl Spackler]Have you tried C4?[/Carl Spackler]

Pension is calculated by hours worked in a year, so sorta. and we are seeing fewer packages now. the 100 and 200 Tables are mostly empty on Saturday now.

[Homer]Mmmmmm…edible Frisbee…mmmmmmmm[/Homer]

Nah, we just end up in another 20 year unwinable war. Although anybody in Tel Aviv or Tehran should stock up on canned goods and iodine pill tomorrow.

The subject didcome up…

Happy to help.

I get fireflies. They fill up the whole volume of my back yard. It’s pretty cool.

The back is not doing well today. I think I need some rest, unfortunately I need to mow before going out of town for a week. And also the museum is getting a 900 lb fish tank on monday. Plus its little brother at only 450.

Attempting to pack for my trip to Michigan with tools. I think I have it properly sorted as to what I must check and what I have to carry on. Talked to a very nice Delta rep the other day to clarify

Happy burp-day, god-bod!.

Darn work ethic. Keeping up with pups is already a lot of work and they probably enjoyed you spending time with them.

Now I want spaghetti and meatballs. And if I want it, I have to make it myself. Not doing that until it cools down.

Definitely. After making pizza yesterday, which included a lot of prep, I told hubby we’re having pizza again today, because we already have the ingredients prepped. Dough is easy, as it’s a mix, and the grill is outside. Which is the most important part. Gotta avoid warming up the house.

Happy birthday Godbod.

I read the first sentence thinking about a mole that one might find on one’s arm. Was confused. Good luck!

My parents have been gardening all their lives, and they are still learning new tricks, especially after the rabbit population exploded and they have to protect the young plants from rabbits. You might get frustrated, but not bored.

I’m sorry. :people_hugging:

Because I live close to a nuclear power plant, and I live in Switzerland, I have iodine pills. Not sharing, sorry.

I don’t remember if you went to the doctor about your back yet. Either way, please go, or go back, or find a new doctor. Probably there is something to be done that will help.

No shopping today, so there will be cleaning (already dusted under the bed), laundry, and exercises with weights. Yesterday I finished “Girl with a Pearl Earing” which I started months ago. So I’ll try starting another physical book, which will help with the doomscrolling and eventually get me more open space on the bookshelves. I have a lot of books that I’m keeping, and I have about 20-30 physical books that I haven’t read. And most of those will be read and then discarded, unless I find a new favorite.

Stay cool!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and sunny. That’s official summer weather especially when you throw in the humidity which makes it feel closer to a hunnert ferretheights. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have verger duty. Then it will be home for a sammich lunch and nappage. Any need to feed today will be via forage.

{{{Lily}}} so sorry for your loss. CJD is an awful disease.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization will commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!
