(Old) Face Off Against Moanday: A Start Of Hockey MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Best fucking day ever. Oh wait. I was remembering another fucking day. Forget I fucking said anything.”

I am glad to hear there are pathways specifically for kids like him, and that people do realise that college/university isn’t the be-all and end-all of things. Vocational courses are just as good, and he has strong ambitions in that direction. Good for him!

Good to see you back - replying to all and sundry isn’t a requirement, we just want to know what’s happening with you! And happy birthday to Izzy, hope she feels better soon and has a fab weekend celebrating.

I can’t work that one out - and which of your time zones would they use? It’s early afternoon here and as far as I can tell, nobody around here’s been raptured. The idiot neighbours are still here, more’s the pity. I don’t like this Rapture, can I get a refund?

I am off irk today, I had some annual leave to use before the end of September due to the change in our leave year to move it in line with academic staff. Caused a whole lot of bother, and left me with 10 days to use in a very short time. I can carry over five days to the next leave year (which will cover most of our November trip to Scotland), and I’m using the rest for two days off this week, and two days next week.

My day has been productive - I got up and tended to the needs of cats, washed my hair and dried it, tidied the laundry out of the bathroom, then took the car to the garage for new tyres. Naturally, they also found something in the tracking that’s not right so added an extra £75 to the bill to get that fixed. Fortunately should be all sorted now. The tyre check report says the tyres are 3 years and 7 months old which is odd because I’ve had the car nearly 5 years and haven’t bought new tyres for it!

Anyway, no other big plans for the day, might go to the gym this afternoon, might do some cooking instead. And I am off to the pub tonight with friends for our usual Wednesday trip.

I keep trying to pound this into FCD’s head. He tried to “encourage” Daughter’s ex and current SIL to enroll. Yeah, education is good, but higher education isn’t for everyone, and there’s no shame in trade work or manual labor. You have a job and you do it well - good for you!!

Speaking of manual labor - it’s time for me to go…

Morning all. Woke up just before 6am to rainfall and the urging of my bladder, so not quite my usual ration of sleep. Rain looks to be around most of the day and into tomorrow, so soccer practice(s) look shaky, just hope we can get the games in on Saturday. At least it is cooling down, 71F now and only making it to 81F later today. Might try to catch up with my newspaper reading (have 4-5 papers strewn about the house in varying degrees of reading) and probably head to the gym as usual. Soup and Sammich will be my primary meal about noontime but may sneak in some breakfast pancakes for variety.

Oh, and not raptured yet…

VanGo, guess the road work folks have more important things to do in slack season..now, what those things are I have no idea, but I am sure they will tell you they are very important…

FCM, I have had the ‘stuck eyelids’ happen once or twice, but not enough to think about it. And Daughter is going to Akron as in Ohio? That’s a pretty good drive.

boo fae, happy Non-Work day! And guess you haven’t been abusing the tyres enough for the past five years…

And pancakes and bacon are sounding better and better…take care all.

Yeah, he’s smart enough to know his limitations and to know what he wants. He’s been tearing things apart and fixing them ever since I can remember, from toys to pickup trucks.

It’s a bit of a drive to Akron, for certain. I think she’s marginally insane, but what ya gonna do?

We’re at the boat and I have a somewhat comfy in a director’s chair. I have wifi so what more could I ask?

:+1:

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 52°F, mostly clear, and sunrise is still over an hour away. We’ll have plenty of sunshine today, with an expected high of 76°F.

Yeah, no rapture here either. My husband was jokingly commenting on it, and I told him he should check the end of everyone’s driveway to see if there are piles of clothes on them.

I want to drive to Missouri, and I recall discussing it earlier this summer. It’ll probably have to wait until next summer, now. That’s a 27-hour drive according to Google Maps, and I’m up for it. I could see some of the country, and could take my time, if I wanted. Breaking it down, it’s probably three days driving, with overnight stops.

FCM, I don’t think I’ve ever woken with eyelids glued shut, but I’ve woken several times with the outside corners of my eyes crusty, like I’d been crying overnight or something.

I, too, believe there is nothing wrong with trade school. We need people skilled in the trades, and if someone is happy working with their hands, all the better.

I leave the house tomorrow at 5:30 a.m., so this is my last full day home for a week. I need to go out and get some travel-sized toothpaste, because I’m out. I’ll probably spring for a pedicure since I’ll be in the same shopping center as the grocery store. Other than packing, I’m ready to go. I’ve got most of the toiletries packed; I’ll pack my clothes tonight, and hair implements tomorrow morning.

I’ve been struggling to decide which shirts to pack. I had planned on packing some long-sleeved shirts, but now that the temperatures are projected to be in the 80s, I have to rethink that. Maybe I’ll go to Kohl’s today, too.

I ordered a new pair of jeans online, and when they arrived, I tried them on. They fit, but look horrible, so I’m going to send them back. Maybe I’ll look for a new pair of jeans at Kohl’s, too.

Alrighty, I need to finish my coffee and get my day started. Please take care of yourselves. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post from Missouri. I’m debating taking my tablet, but we’ll see.

Another drive-by post. I’d apologize, but everyone says not to.

We are feeling better. SenBoy got an infection from his allergies that got worse. He had a mild fever on Sunday and body ache. I wasn’t feeling well either and thought that maybe it came from sailing / race management in the rain on Saturday.

I called in sick on Monday and had him stay home. We went to the doctor who said that the infection had gotten into his lymp nodes in his neck. Antibiotics were given and rest was ordered.

SenBoy supposed to have a soccer game on Tuesday, and wasn’t thrilled about being made to miss it, but ya gotta get better first.

Not only that, but who would you rather have take care of a catastrophic leak in your plumbing, someone with a PhD in Fine Arts or someone who went to trade school to be a plumber? Education appropriate to the job can be pretty important.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis should be here sometime around noon and we’ll do our grocery / girls’ day out. Maintenance will be here sometime to reverse the hinges on the fridge, so if they haven’t been by the time we leave, I’ll put Nelson in the bedroom. Otherwise, RDOS activity.

I finished up the anniversary card yesterday morning. I hope Denise and her hubby like it.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So I was loading 200 Bottom White because of call offs. A lot of last minute stuff, 2 100 lbs crates, and a truck leaf spring that was waaayyyy more than 95lbs. I’m sore but showered, now it’s naptime.

Tire gnomes changed them when you weren’t looking?

[Phil Coulson]Tahiti, it’s a magical place[/Phil Coulson]

Glad you’re listening. and hope SenBoy gets better quick.

Shiny!

Well, the wife cancelled us for the apple picking. This has become a pattern, I’m afraid, and I know she’s going to regret not going when we’ve got snow on the ground. It’s a beautiful fall day wasted. Well, at least I was able to go to exercise.

My ENT appointment finally arrives tomorrow, so hopefully I can get this hearing problem taken care of.

I’m working from home today – all day – and happily the landscaping guys were able to finally finish that work this morning. When I walked the crew leader around to confirm what still needed to be done, he was surprised to see the bags of mulch stacked up at the side of the house. I was like “um, you guys left them here last week!” Anyway, everything has been done and now the place looks purty. My father and brother are coming here on Sunday, to take me to a belated birthday lunch, and I’m glad the property will look nice…and that the cleaners will be here on Friday…the guys won’t notice/care, but I will.

At the moment, both UPS and FedEx are saying that my items will be delivered today! :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: (FedEx apparently resolved the address issue.) Neither ETA is more specific than “sometime before 9pm,” but I have nowhere else to be for the next 20 hours and nothing to do but wait (well, and work). It would really be great if they both actually arrive today: I’ll be happy/relieved to have the items, but also it’s still kind of hard to be home alone and at the moment I prefer working in the office (and commuting).

Since I’m home, I had some Wegman’s delivered via Instacart: bananas, a great turkey sandwich that their deli makes, and a few things I’ve had trouble finding at my local Safeway while they’re in the process of rearranging everything (and that Giant doesn’t carry). I was down to just two bags of PopSecret Homestyle microwave popcorn…the horror!! :open_mouth:

:waving_hand: !

And thanks for the belated birthday wishes!

Oooooo, I like those colors.

:crossed_fingers: !

Hey everyone. We did some parts swapping between his comp and mine and are happy to say that it is indeed a hardware issue. The part is ordered and I’ll be back to yammering everyone’s ears off in a couple of days.

So stay safe and have a great day.

I still can’t watch Jimmy Kimmel because the local ABC station is part of a grouping that is still going to not show it. I am pissed.

Our ABC affiliate (KOMO-TV) is owned by Sinclair, so they did not show it. (Not that I was awake at the time, anyway.) Someone in P&E posted a YouTube link.

Morning all. Sunny and crisp here, so mowage is likely. I have a Dinner Thing where a local poet is speaking, and some house tasks. I hope to get an hour for writing–I resent not being able to just sit and do it.

I removed a number of people from my Facebook friends because they seem to have left, or never respond with more than a like and rarely even that, or I don’t even recognize them other than as friends of friends. I’ll do another round of it in spring.

There’s 4 of them? Sheesh.

Hmph. As I am recovering from surgery, and taking pain relievers, I am abstaining from alcohol. There’s a partial bottle of single malt that is mocking me.

Have you changed (or did they change the formula) laundry detergent or facial soap? Any other symptoms? My eyes are really intolerant of perfumes and if I don’t clean my face and eyelids at night, I can have gooky eyes in the morning.

Very nice. How do you mail the cards you make? Special envelopes with cushioning?

Took the outer bandages off, so now I just have steri-strips and stitches. Found some rather long ends that have been trimmed. Shouldn’t have left them on so long, and now my skin’s not so happy, plus the adhesive wants to stay with me.

Went for a slightly longer walk and got mixed frozen berries. Didn’t realize that they also included red currants, which I’m not fond of. Anyway, put some of those berries, plus some frozen raspberries, oats and yogurt, so tomorrow I’ll have berry müesli for breakfast. Might include a banana as well. Excitement abounds.

Well, FedEx can officially bite me. I just got a “sorry we missed you” email – when no one had tried to deliver – so I called them: turns out they do still have the wrong address. Someone there transposed the last two digits of my ZIP code, and now my item is on its way back to the sender. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: Their communication is horrible!!

I contacted the sender, who will track the return and let me know when the item is on its way to me again (and who confirmed that they have the correct address on file for me; this was definitely FedEx’s error). I asked that they use UPS* as the carrier when the item goes back out, since I dread dealing with the FedEx circus again; the customer service rep said he thinks that should be doable. But now there will be a random day next week when I have to be home again…I really hope it’s not Tuesday, as I have a dentist appointment that morning.

MEH.

*I’m still waiting for Brown, but am more confident/still optimistic about them.

I guess the cat litter was too heavy for FedEx. They left the two, 35-pound, boxes at the corner of the house instead of bringing them to the door.

Oh, well. SWMBO wants me to put the A/C away, and I’ll have to get the hand truck out anyway to do it. (After years of lifting the bloody thing out of the tote (which is used to collect water that doesn’t make it into the bucket – just in case), maneuvering it across the deck, hefting it off the deck, and putting it into the canopy shed, I learned that just using the hand truck is much less strenuous.)

There are a few on my list who I obviously knew when I added them but no longer know their online identity. One recently identified herself, so that was nice. I few others I think I know from the Dope but I’m not positive. Doesn’t keep me awake at night, but it can be perplexing.

Nope - no changes. I’m pretty set in my ways. Other than the sticking eyelids and occasional gritty feeling (which has occurred for decades when I’m really tired) I don’t have any of the other symptoms listed. I’ll try to remember to ask my eye doc next time I see him.

You and me both. FCD got a delivery, but it wasn’t everything he ordered. So either there were multiple boxes and FedEx couldn’t be bothered, or they got separated after leaving the seller and the rest will show up tomorrow? Hope so - it was over $1k of parts.

Were they in a place where they could be run over? That’s how it works here…

We’re home. Apparently I did my tool and parts handing very well. Anything to save my poor sweetie from having to climb in and out of the engine room multiple times. After he wrapped up what he was doing today, we went to Salsa’s in Lusby for lunch, which yielded enough leftovers for supper. I’ve heard a couple of rumbles of thunder - sounds like our timing was good.

I’ve got the good ice maker going and I’m about to have a little recliner time. Waiting for rain.

No, they’re on the new(-ish) concrete walkway that T’s into the driveway.
