Today, our yard will be lumberjacked. Last night, a guy knocked on our door. The company he works for is from Virginia, and they’re doing some work for a neighbor. They were asking if anyone else needed tree stuff done while they’re here, and as it happens, we had some that needed doing. We’ve got 3 dead trees near the fence and if they fall the wrong way, they could end up in the street - not good. Then 2 other trees we wanted gone. We’ve also got several large branches that hang way too low. Just last week, FCD and I were talking about contacting someone to take care of it all, and as it happened, someone contacted us.
They didn’t want a deposit - just a check when they’re done. And since a couple of the trees are hardwood, they’ll cut them into log-sized hunks that we can use for firewood. They’ve got a chipper to deal with the little stuff, and all the debris will be dumped in our woods to rot, so no haulage fee. So, for 5 trees and 3 branches, it’ll be $3K. Definitely worth dipping into savings, especially because of the fence/road proximity. All I have to do is keep Otis contained while they work. That’ll be fun.
They’ll be here around lunchtime, when they finish the neighbor’s job. Before then, I’ll make a run to Food Lion for a few things. Truly an exciting day ahead…
The forecast for today is upper 80s with possible t-boomers tonight. The heat wave prediction is no longer as dire as it was, tho it’s still warmer than I like. But the triple-digit heat indices have disappeared, so yay!
FCD’s last surviving aunt called last night. Assuming we can arrange to board Otis, we’ll be heading to Indianapolis (actually Avon) the week of Oct 5. She wants us to stay for a week - even tempting us with a trip to Costco!!! We’re thinking more in terms of 2 or 3 days. She’s a very sweet lady, but OMG can she TALK!!! Plus Uncle J is in late-stage Parkinson’s and he’s very hard to understand, so conversation with him, at least for me, is next to impossible. No offense to either of them, but sitting around with them all day…
We will probably drive to West Lafayette - I am curious to see Purdue after all these years - so that will kill one day. Plus one of FCD’s cousins lives there - I suppose we could meet him for lunch. But since it’s his family, I’m just going along for the ride - I’ll let him make the decisions about what we do and how long we stay.
Aunt B said we can bring Otis - there’s a big NOPE! They don’t have a fenced yard but they do have a very active airedale mix. Otis and Sadie would totally trash the house in record time. So FCD needs to arrange to board our goofball. Plus 10 anna half hours in the car for Otis - not sure I want to try that.
Yep, exciting day/days ahead. I’ll try to keep whining to a minimum.
Happy Wednesday!!! (I was sure it was Tuesday…)
