74f at 1100. We’ll be hitting mid-to-high 80s all week.
Exercised and puzzled for the day. I came across my exercise bands, so I’m going to start using those on off-session days.
Dragged the wife to the grocery because there were several heavy items we needed (juice, milk, etc.). Picked up a nice pork shoulder to make green chili stew. That’s some seriously good stuff and a pot will feed us for days.
Niece is supposed to visit today, but we haven’t heard from her, so we’ll see. The wife is determined to go to a presentation on downsizing this afternoon, which is fairly amusing to me, as she never wants to get rid of anything, not to mention printing out anything on the internet that she finds interesting. The piles of paper in that room are crazy. She’s deaf to my pleas, but perhaps will be motivated by someone else.
True. One nice thing about practicing nursing in this town for 42 years is I know which ones the bad ones are.
Orthopods tend to be ex jocks, reliving their glory days in the same university town they were football stars in, like Lincoln, NE. Never have met a female orthopod, it’s such a boys club.
At least my osteoporosis doc is a girl, I’m grateful for small favors. Probably gonna need steroid injection in this hip, knee and all the leg in between in a few weeks so I’ll have no choice but to get that done by a good ol’ boy jock doc who’d MUCH rather be treating a sports injury.
I had a bit of an afternoon skive; I borrowed a pressure washer off my former landlady, but she needed it back, requiring a trip to drop it off. I only just dodged the parking warden at her house; He was lurking less than 50 meters away having a smoke before presumably sticking a fine on my car. Apparently they normally leave 10 minutes grace before ticketing; I’d paid for an hour and had been 67 minutes. He had an expression like a cheetah that had been dodged by an antelope at the last second.
As it happens, I have a membership that gives me free entry to my favourite garden on Wednesdays, and it’s very near former landlady’s house, so I squeezed in a quick trip. It’s definitely starting to look autumnal. I just dodged the rain.
This means I have not done much writing today. Just the morning.
In other news, my supervisors have now, after I sent the last chapter out, decided I don’t need an extension, so the deadline is exactly 1 (one) month today.
It will be close. Too close, IMO. I’m not all that happy about that decision. I think they’re thinking it will be one of those things that expands to fit the space available, but I have a bunch of stuff left to do.
On the plus side, they have all agreed that it makes more sense to treat the viva as internal to the place I’m actually based, rather’n the university I’m registered at, which is 6+ hours drive away and actually far closer to BooFae’s place than mine. Doing it where I’ve been working means I don’t have to travel, I get to either commiserate or celebrate with my friends here, and as the viva requires one internal examiner and one external, that at least means I should be vaguely acquainted with one of them, as intended.
Injections can be weird, though. I had a wonderful lady doctor that I trusted with my life, but not to give me a flu shot. She was really horrible at it, I suspect because she hesitated out of fear of hurting folks. I always had her assistant, a male, give me my shots instead because he had no patience with it. Arm, needle, shot, done.
I missed my torture session yesterday and will miss tomorrows as well. Yesterday I woke up in horrible intestinal distress and spent most of the day on the toilet or sleeping or trying to puke in my trash can and puking all over the corner of the bedroom instead. Good times. The fever broke early this morning and I’m feeling much better but I still don’t want to risk getting folks sick.
Well, had to leave the house anyway, one of my hearing aids ‘pods’ the protect the in-ear parts popped off in my ear and I could not fish it out, so had to go to the ENT to let them get it and since I was out I’m now at the gym for a little while–at least I’m early enough to get some swimming in.
More of the same chaos, with 3 bonus carts of Irregs for me to clerk at the end of the sort. Random people kept bringing me stuff, so I was out at 2p.m. today.
And TIL the newest malady of the age is scromiting. Which is an actually illness, and not Tide Pod Eating 2.0.
chicken, peppers, onions, and chilies stir fried, with a tamato sauce(ketchup, red wine, smoked paprika, chipotle powder).
Golden Calf! Our steaks are sacrilicious!
Spot is not amused when I am late. He’s not amused when I’m on time, either.
The overhead camera sometimes flags my hat as an unscanned product. Like people around here would steal brains.
Wood burning stoves do. Ahh, I see Nut has clarified.
This is eggzacly right. But that’s what the Equinoxes are all about.
Mollie, glad your creatinine levels have improved!
Congrats, cupcakes!! That’s great work! May it long continue to be so.
Ugh. I hate when stuff like that happens. I’m relieved you didn’t hurt yourself. And another beautiful card, I see! I hope these next 2 weeks pass quickly for you and you can put this ordeal behind you once and for all.
Thank you for explaining! I did Goggle it and Stouffer’s was the only thing that came up, so I figured that’s what you meant. But now I have it from the horse’s mouth!
Funniest story I’ve read in awhile. Thanks so much for sharing it! I’m still chuckling!
Hope everything goes decently well with the new system today, fly boy.
Thanks for the update, BBBbooo. I wish all this could be easier on you. I admire your tenacity to stick with the PT in the face of so much pain. JtC’s, too. Safe travels to Denver.
You’re a good friend.
Ohh, how I relate. May all your upcoming tasks go smoothly – or at least, as smoothly as possible!
Hope you get some relief from the eye issues soon, Coppertone. Sounds like a lot to sort out.
Now, all of you, just stop this nonsense, oregano have to give out some swats!
Well done, you! Best to keep on top of this stuff.
Ugh. I think you work in the Seventh Circle. I’m sorry.
Good luck with yahd maintenance, swampy! I like your aspirations with respect to the neighborhood pecking order!
FCM, that is a good deal on the tree-felling! Always smart to be proactive about these things, as much as possible. I hope it goes well. Safe travels to Indiana, when you go.
Knots, a friend of mine had a Cochlear implant. He was so grateful for it. This was long ago and he has since died, but there have been nothing but improvements for them since. I hope this can work out for you.
metal mouse, good news that the potential bug let go of you quickly! You’re astonishingly well for someone who works so much with kids. Yikes on the hearing aid part getting stuck, but at least you were quick to get to the ENT and it resolved easily.
< chortle! > Be the best parents you can be! Sounds like a fine time was had by all except Squeaky, briefly.
taters, so happy to hear Zeus is doing well! Lucky dog, that one. And yes; isn’t the rain wonderful? We’ve had it steadily for most of today, with even more in tomorrow’s forecast. I feel like I can breathe again with happy wet trees.
Hope the niece made it, cookie!
Nice job dodging the ticket and the rain, Nut!
So yesterday turned into a busy one. Ollie nails first thing yesterday morning after a crap night’s sleep. For me. Ollie snored the night away as usual.
Got back from that and then had a lengthy phone discussion with Pond Guy about Ways Forward. We are on the same page, so further remediation efforts will continue when the rain gives way.
After that, His Nibs needed fresh green beans for his daily gruel mixture, so I ran out to fetch some of those at the farm store. They had a nice looking cantaloupe, corn, and a couple of pears jumped into my bag, too. My wonderful Bartlett tree produced none this year, since the blossoms dropped before pollination could happen. That’s a rare occurrence, thankfully.
Was an early night last night and a nice sleep-in this morning. I feel much better today.
Most of my morning was taken up with organizing a trip later in the month to visit my parents. What a cluster! An hour and a half! It’s done, though. I don’t much care for traveling these days, especially when planes are involved. I did plenty of traveling in my younger years, and now I prefer being more of a homebody.
Breakfast was a burrito made with eggs, cheese, sauteed onions and peppers and a couple sausage patties chopped into it. And a pear. Can’t think what to make for dinner, but no rush on that. I thought I had bought mushrooms, but apparently I didn’t, so the recipe I was thinking of will have to wait another day or two. I have plenty of pre-made meals in the freezer, though, so pretty sure starvation isn’t in the offing.
I’m still watching One Step From Heaven on PBS whenever I have a stretch of time. I’d say the series well and truly jumped the shark in Season 5, but that’s ok. Still with the very nice scenery of all kinds.
Howdy Y’all! OYKW got and stowed provisions. I accomplished mowage. Then it was shower and nap time for me. We day drank and heated up the lasagna. Life is just so excitatin’ in da cave!
BooFae hope the yahd problems get worked out without you bein’ grumbled at more. Also, readin’ about the changes afoot at irk for you and FlyBoy made me think of a joke.
How many Episcopalians does it take to change a lightbulb.
CHANGE!?!? why should we CHANGE! Why, my great grandmother gave that lightbulb to this church!
MOOOOOOM I had the yahd lumberjacked way back when I put in the cee-mint pond. That was in 2003. WOW! Also, that price ain’t bad. That trip sounds ummm… entertainin’. However, it’s a good thing y’all are goin’ while FCD can have a good visit with them. The sidetrip sounds like a good idea. You would not steal green beans. I am sure you’d save your thievin for aigs, tp, and diamond tiaras.
Knotty GC = Golden Corral. Also, MetalMouse is in north Alibama. I am in southwest Jawja. I see MetalMouse ninjaed me on the explanation.
rocker glad you had a good time with your friends, but ICK on the rain.
MetalMouse hope you’re feelin’ better now. I see now that you are, indeed, feelin’ better.
Mollie love the pic of sis and you in that most groovy of places Record Bar! A good dinner, ice cream plus y’all got to embarrass Squeaky in public. Could y’all have had a better anniversary!
Taters glad Zeus had a good time at the doggy park.
JtC glad you’re feelin’ better today.
BrightTree I strive to not have the worst yahd in da 'hood. Second worst I’m fine with.
And back from the gym, cheese dogs were the mid-day snackage and a Chee-Burger will be consumed later this evening. Soccer practice for the kids was cancelled for today due to the high temperature/wet bulb reading (98F, feels like 111F). Looks like it’ll remain about the same next week so looking to water the lawn later this week, since Mother Nature apparently isn’t going to help.
cookie, if the wife wants a pile of NY Times to go with the other paperwork, just let me know… Hope niece made it over.
BBBoo, my Dentist is a woman, my Doc is Black, and the eye doc is Asian-American (hope I got the descriptors right), so guess I’m a ‘woke’ patient.
Nut, good timing with the parking; hope he doesn’t remember your car next time. Best wishes on making the deadline.
{{{JtC}}}, glad your feeling better, an intestinal bug is the worst thing to have IMHO.
Taters, would love to see some of that rain around here.
FCM, glad the tree work got done on-time and to your satisfaction. Chill away!
I learned my lesson about a year ago, had it happen and fooled around with it until if finally was resting next to my eardrum. The pain in the ENT office removing it is something I definitely remember so I’ve learned not to go poking around to much.
Bright Tree, I still travel some, but usually have my plans made and things booked at least 2 months prior to going, so a little less of a hassle.
And that’s all for the moment. Got to get the garbage bin to the curb tonight, but in no rush to do it, as noted above it’s pretty hot out there.
Yeah, we were prepared for Eduard to dump more rain on us than the sprinkles we got yesterday too. Stuff happens when budget cuts hit services that are needed.
I’m glad that you’re improving, JtC.
While I didn’t do a whole lot today, KP did get done (I weaseled out of it yesterday) and I did the stamping and cutting for this evening’s card, so all I have to do is color and assemble it. Meanwhile, there’s a little reddish dog who’s wanting uppies.
I find it helps to read if I favor one eye. Dr said no hurry for next removal. He said its rare to be able to deal ( I can see 2 feet away and farther just fine) so I told him I was special.
95 here today. Went grocery shopping early.
My previous doctor was both a GP and a sports injury specialist. I always had the feeling that he yawned internally when talking to this old lady about her ills, and reserved his real concern for the young men athletes who injured themselves. One day in 2023 I was driving to see him about my issues with roaring tinnitus and other ear issues, and got an attack of horrible vertigo while en route. Once in the office, I begged to be shown to an exam room right away so I could fall down in private if I had to. He was very short with me, and seemingly only concerned that I might barf in his exam room. When he left, I heard him join a young man and chat enthusiastically about the patient’s sport. That was the last time I visited that doc; I found another GP, a woman, much closer to home and I like her much better.
ETA: he said my tinnitus was probably due to old age. I’ve since been diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease.
I took a short nap.
< Spot jumps up on bed >
< hic >
< flings tux off of bed >
< HORNK >
Dinner was chicken with cavatappi, broccoli with mushrooms, and a martini.
Yeah, the Venn Diagram of “Brown Employees” and “Inhabitants of The Island of Misfit Toys” is pretty much concentric circles.
Late night final time. Chee-burger was assimilated and some applesauce for dessert so should be good until the Thursday feedings. It is still 81F outside as I approach 10pm, so another hot day tomorrow. Garbage bin is at the curb awaiting pickup in the morning so that chore is finished. Probably will have to run the dishwasher tomorrow, almost out of room to play dish tetris anymore. At least my throat is doing better.
red. lovely work as always.
And off to bed I go. Will catch up tomorrow prior to my hearing air appointment.
