Cat Glove - Sounds like you were leaking/out of Freon. All A/C parts are more expensive now, thanks to 45’s tariffs. We had to replace one of our units this spring. The lady was very apologetic that it was going to cast about $400 more than last year because of the tariffs.
She said Abby… something…

EEG indicated abnormal, so she put me back on full dose of meds morning and night. And so that’s that. Not a huge deal - I’m not anti-meds. Just didn’t want to take stuff if I really didn’t need it. But I do. So I will. I don’t want a repeat seizure.
Pffffft - nope. My appointment was at 10. To have time to shop at Kohl’s would have required me to leave the house no later than 8:45. Which would have meant getting into the shower shortly after 8. Nope.
But I did score 5 all cotton t-shirts with not-too-crazy patterns, including tax, for $22!!! I hit a sale rack, a clearance rack, plus I had some Kohl’s cash on my account. Definitely a win!
FCD and I went to Salsa’s for lunch, and now we’re back. I’m going to gather the firewood, then, dunno.
Well, have accomplished nothing except typing out and printing the update soccer schedules (through October 10th, we still have a couple weeks more to add). Will shortly get dressed appropriately for going back to the ENT for my annual inspection. Depending on how long that lasts I may head over to the gym for a couple hours before soccer (and given that it has reached triple digits around here, the league may cancel practices again) since sitting around the house tends to encourage me to nibble…
Cat Glove, I think between replacing it and then getting more work done on it I spent close to $10k on my system in the past several years–but they were separate jobs; hope the first fix works out.
Taters, we have a 1-in-8 chance of rain according to the weather wizards. Wishing we had some of your precipitation.
FCM, well, drat, but the alternative is not good so hopefully the meds keep working.
And need to get myself in motion for the afternoon.
A hot, muggy week in MSP.
My arthritic shoulder is acting up after yesterday’s exercise session, so I’m going to hold off on making the green chili stew today. We ordered in lunch from the kitchen, which was grilled sausage and peppers.
Gave away half our apples to the building staff and our housekeeper.
Our niece volunteered to help us sort through the boxes of ‘stuff’ that are in storage in the garage and to haul whatever we want to get rid of to the Sallies or some other organization that can use it. So there’s hope!
Just before I left for work, Roomie was eating some cotton candy, and Spot ran up and nommed a tiny bite. When I left, he was on my bed spinning, and trying to eat his tail, Nothing like a sugar rush stacked on top of 0300 Zoomies. The same thing as before at work. Plus bonus: dealing with the < unidentified > that came out of the trailer on Door 3 looking like it had been run over, chainsawed, and been through an angle grinder orgy. That got sent back. Also, since there’s no clerk in Irregs, and the correction program removed itself from the computer, they brought the Irregs to me. Well, they dumped some up from with the 300 North irregs(I fixed those before the drivers left), and a cart got sent to MSG, who did not do anything with them. So I dealt with that. Loss Prevention guy came by and asked if there was a trailer of damages being hidden in the yard. There’s not, because if there was a trailer of damages within 10 miles, someone would find it and bring it to me.
Iwanted to stop dressing up like a nun, but I couldn’t break the habit.
A bottle of peach(N.O.P.) syrup, and a 40lbs bag of road salt?
Ovaltine?
At least the meds work.
Mollie, belated anniversary wishes to you and your wife.
We buy the Thin-Sliced Organic 21 Whole Grains and Seeds DKB. Our daughter turned us on to it.
Since the former computer fried itself last year, I lost all my saved recipes. Sometimes I email recipes that I’ve saved on Word documents to our daughter. So, I was looking for one in my emails and found it but also found the recipe from Chefguy for French Toast. Wish I had stumbled on it before we went on vacation. Used it this morning to make French Toast for Hubs and I. Absolutely delicious.
{{{JtC}}} so sorry that your innards were revolting; glad to hear you’re feeling better
{{{shoe}}}
She certainly was. She opened a lot of people’s eyes. I subscribed to Ms. magazine when it first came out.
Does Kohl’s also sell things that would be appropriate for a baby girl’s first birthday? I need to buy something stat as I’ve been invited to a party on Saturday.
Ha! One of Hubs’ groomsmen was an orthopod. His personality already was not very personable. He’s on his 4th wife, last I heard. Hubs and the other guys from their frosh floor no longer are in contact with him; I think I’m the last one who spoke to him.
Well a tornado warning or minimum of wind damage has been issued and it’s purportedly bearing down on this location within the next 15 minutes so imma sign off for now and go in the basement. (reminder to self: am currently reading post 155)
They just called soccer practice off for today due to the extreme heat, so can take it easy finishing my sweating at the gym. My right hearing aid is going to the shop (under warranty) so I’ll be one-eared for a week or so. Dishes washed and garbage bin back in the garage so I have been a responsible person today.
Back to the treadmill, still have 300 calories to go.
Church dinner was fish sandwich and potato wedges. I got it to go as I made it home before the rain and tornado warning.
And home, some ice cream eaten and dishes put away, temperature outside at 5:45pm is 98F, so I think it was a good deal that they called off practice. About a 50-50 shot at some showers between 7-9pm, we’ll see if anything develops.
Cookie, happy sorting; you may be surprised at what you find. And staff will hopefully remember the apples and do you a favor now and then.
doggio, your title at work should be “The Man that Deals with Things.”
Cat Glove, I think Kohl’s handles most things people wear, including the littles, but I admit I haven’t been to mine in quite awhile. Stay safe!
Mollie, Dude! (or maybe Dudette!)
Coppertone, you stay safe too!
Time for some ham, cheese, rye bread, tomatoes and pickles to come together. See y’all later tonight.
Howdy Y’all! We had quality cee-mint pond followed by showerage and nappage. I got a burst of, I guess, energy and went ahead and registered for Diocesan convention and made a hotel reservation. It’s not until November 5-7, but the info was in the weekly Diocesan newsletter, so that prompted me to go ahead and take care of all that. I will spend two glorious days in Brunswick, GA. I get to stay in a Fairfield Inn and attend to convention bidness in a conference center at College of Coastal Georgia. I know y’all are soooooo envious of me! Also, I cooked sup. The pepper steak over rice was tres nummy if’n I do say so myself. Plus we get to have it again tomorrow or Sattidy.
Cat_Glove hope the a/c fix isn’t too ouchy financially,
Coppertone glad you made it home safe ahead of the ick weather. A fish sammich and N.O.T. wedges sounds good.
Can you rent a moving pod for a week or however long you need it?
I don’t know how much I’d wanna cuddle with a dog that just peed all over its belly…
It was honestly funny, I could tell that was the first time DOG had ever said “No” to his leash holder and his mortification and confusion was writ large over his features.
That sounds pretty pressing, don’t you ever worry about the store happening to be out of your particular required thing when you get there? I like to always have a spare whatever available.
Happy belated birthday Spoons!
Awwww! You both look so happy ![]()

Much luck and lots of sympathy. I’ve been through migrations like that and it always sucked. Be sure you have some of your favorite tipple handy, you’re going to need it.
I didn’t say that clearly. I meant: stop at Kohls first before you go to Penneys because 50% off of Clearance is almost giving it away. Like 5 Cotton tees for $22. Glad it worked out so well. I got some plus size skorts for $4 each and a couple of casual summer dress that were $40 for $6 each, cotton blend with pockets even.
Yes, yes, yes. They have a big children’s section and there clearance will be 50% off of the clearance price, so if you find something in kids clearance you can give something really nice for not much $. Plus it still is returnable or exchangeable.
Sounds delish and good planning to get home safely before the weather.
Sis did a mercy grocery / pharmacy / trash run for me today. Insurance finally approved the anti-nausea med and it’s helping some.
It has spit rain all day, nothing major, just enough that Nelson didn’t tarry when I took him out.
So I typed all that out without looking at dates. Then I said “whatever, I typed it out, I’ll post it”.
So today was full of sloth. My ribs hurt and all of my joints hurt. I’m too old to spend days in bed like back when I was young. I stripped the bed to the mattress and everything has been washed and put back on the bed and that wore me right out. I’ll probably be going to bed early again tonight.
The good part is that I’ve lost almost 15 lbs, but of course that is all water weight and will go right back on. Darnit.
George will be happy that Hubs is sleeping with me again, the poor dude got no rest at all last night because he had to check up on both of us equally. Jolene just watched out for posie eating deer like usual.
I have talked to my surgeon twice and both times he just descended on me like a minor-diety, blessed me with a few words and then took off. Happily, his PA is very happy to explain things and answer questions for as long as I wanted/needed.
Something that really surprised me about moving here is the quality of medical care. I haven’t had better anywhere else. The care is personal, the wait times are very reasonable - my dentist gave me a Dunkin’ gift card for being more than fifteen minutes late once - and all of the offices and equipment look new and updated.
We are a laughing stock to the entire world and things will never be the same. I mourn with you.
As I went down the stairs to the basement, the power went out. I had my phone and a little flashlight so I was ok. Took a book with me and read down under the stairs. Came up after half hour, only slightly raining then. Power was out for 4-1/2 hrs but now back on so I was able to watch most of Coco’s second set to win the match. Daughter’s power is still out; she lives 16 miles in a north suburb.
Another day that turned into rather a busy one.
I’m almost embarrassed to mention our weather. Almost. Today started at 49Ferrets and rose to 63F. Most of the upcoming week looks similar. We’re getting steady rain, the trees and grass are perking up. So lovely!
Mollie, yikes, I’m so sorry for overlooking your anniversary! My very best to you and Mrs. Magill! You’re a darling couple. ![]()
swampy, I loved the Whiskeypalian joke.
And we are of a mind when it comes to yahd maintenance – or we would be, except none of my yahd is visibibble to anyone until they drive down into it. And I like that.
At least you learn from your mistakes! I usually have to make mine several times before I figure out what I’ve done wrong. ![]()
It’s difficult for me to plan too far ahead due to still working, even nominally. But it’s done. And I learned some things about my phone that are borderline creepy, so perhaps useful in another kind of bizarre way. For example, I had no idea my phone could read a credit card.
There you go, trying to curry favor again by keeping these puns at bay. Tsk.
Sounds nightmarish. Things can only improve…? ![]()
Poor sweetie! Ollie had his a few weeks ago and had no consequences. I’ll tell him he’s lucky.
shoe, I understand what you’re going through. Biggest hugs, as many as you need. Oh, and… BOO!!! (Did the hiccups abate yet?)
BooFae, I hope George brings his brother and brambles are dug! That’s a tough job. When he’s done at your place, could you send him my way?
I haven’t made chicken chasseur in ages – now I think it’s past time!
I’m glad you enjoyed your apple, Nut!
I like all your sunrise photos, Mollie.
Have fun tonight!
Cat Glove, man, do I get what you’re talking about re the new AC. Do make sure the repair folks check the main circuit board (there probably is one) before going to the extreme of replacing the entire unit. I had a similar issue with my heat pump last winter where it kept icing up. The circuit board replacement was expensive, but not nearly as expensive as replacing the whole unit would have been.
I can’t talk about tariffs in this thread. I’d get much too salty.
I’m sick of those, too! 2:00 a.m. seems to be my new wakie-wakie time.
I hope you get some good rest tonight.
Taters, I’m loving the rain, too! So wonderful!
Yeah, there’s the reason to stay on your meds, as you’ve pointed out. At least now you know.
Stay safe!! And yes, as metal mouse points out, you, too, Coppertone!
Boy, do I relate! I’m sorry you’re suffering so. But it’s great to hear you have access to such excellent medical care for when it all gets to be too much. Love the Dunkin’ gift card. ![]()
I wish we were only a laughing stock. That’s the least of the damage done. ![]()
So a couple of days ago, I went to open the drawer to the freezer unit on my fridge and the handle came off in my hands. I quickly learned how useless a freezer is when you have no way to pull it open.
I had a look at the user guide and discovered I needed the tiny Allen wrench provided with my fridge documentation to fix it. Only the tiny Allen wrench was no longer there. Because of course it wasn’t! I added ‘Allen wrench search’ to my To Do list today and off I went.
We have a pretty good little local hardware store, and they fixed me right up. Ninety-five cents and I would soon be back in business! Ran the rest of my errands, met a friend for lunch and then scurried home to attempt a reattachment of the freezer door handle.
Did I mention the Allen wrench is tiny? For extra fun, the only way to access the little hex screws is to lie on your back on the floor, painstakingly work the wrench into the teensy screw while simultaneously holding the handle firmly in place, all while upside down. Some bad words may have been said.
But it’s done, the handle is reattached and the miserable little Allen wrench is firmly taped to the bag that holds the fridge documentation. I mean it would hold the documentation if I hadn’t stupidly left that behind at the hardware store.
I called and they located the forgotten materials. I’ll pick those up next time I’m in town.
Dinner was a microwaved hot dog on a white bun and mustard, with potato chips on the side to scoop cottage cheese. I feel like I should have a S’more to finish off, but no marshmallows, dammit. Or Hershey’s chocolate, either.
Hmmppff!
Have great evenings, all!
Time to get the late-night final in, even if it’s not yet 9pm here. I finally got the grilled cheesers right for the ham in between so sammiches were good and still had space for some ice cream, I’m out of ice cream now but guess what went on the Firday shopping list… Have consumed all the calories I’m allowing myself today. Busy micturation day, had to go 9 times already and we’ll see if I make it to midnight without a 10th trip; bet tomorrow it’ll be half of that output (kidneys iz weird).
swampy, enjoy conventioneering. If I wasn’t so deeply involved in youth soccer I’d have been booked for DragonCon in Atlanta this weekend, but have games to coach and referee, so maybe some other time.
red, good on Sis and hope the medication helps.
JtC, hope the pain abates soon and who knows, the weight may stay off if you work at it. And for all the jokes about W. Virginia, I am glad you’re happy with the level of medical care there.
CatGlove, glad power came back on, must have been quite a storm.
Bright Tree, I’ll see your kind of weather around the end of October–I hope (90’s all this week and next). The 50-50 odds for rain landed on the dry side so might have to get the hoses out and water the yard this weekend. And your adventure with the door handle and the Allen wrench reminds me of a few times I had to put things together in a most awkward position.
With great pain comes great clearness of thought…
It can?!?!? I’ve never tried mine, may have to do some checking about that.
And it’s now after 9pm, so will be heading off to bed shortly and seeing how long my bladder will let me sleep tonight. Take care all.
