(Old) Friends, Romans, Penitents, Lent me your ear: An Ash Wednesday MMP

Good morning! Outside, in Elkhart, the temp is 25 ferrets, and snow is falling. The weather folks say those conditions will continue all day.

Folks, if your employer won’t provide the Personal Protection Equipment the law requires, you can still buy your own. Your health may not matter to your employer, but you’re going to need those lungs and that skin later on.

This restaurant should have been a cinch to find. I looked online with my laptop before leaving and it was basically “take the freeway and get off on exit 250”. But no instructions after that. After driving around in circles for a bit, I tried Google on my phone, but my service has changed to Genie AI, which I’m completely unfamiliar with. Hilarity ensued.

Thanks for the heartburn. He only has eight months left on his contract, so hopefully no more deployments. His unit narrowly escaped being sent into Minneapolis to harass people with ICE.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 42F and wet outside. We’ll have morning rainshowers, an overcast afternoon, and a daytime high of 52F.

Dicey, I’m glad to read your husband has good energy levels. Hope you enjoyed/enjoy the outing.

FCM, I hope this next round of meds completely knocks the illness out for Tobias. Poor little guy.

We had another nice day with my son yesterday, and he went home early yesterday evening. The pups were spoiled both Friday and yesterday. On Friday, they got to eat sirloin steak for a special lunch (just for them), AND leftover schnitzel and duck breast from our dinner. They had another person to tussle with (my son), and were properly spent by last night.

We never made it to the deli or the restaurant yesterday. It was pouring down rain, and while that never really stops a PNWer, none of us really felt like going. We hung out, had breakfast, and later on a linner from a hamburger stand near us. I plan to relax today. Well, after loading and running the dishwasher and sweeping the kitchen floor.

Alright, it’s time to finish my coffee and then finish the kitchen. You all take care.

Good morning all. Woke up early so dressed and drove down to the Krispy Kreme where I bought glazed donuts which now reside happily in my belly. Of course that was about 200% more sugar than I needed for the day, but hey, if you can’t just go hog-wild sometimes what’s the fun of life? Anyway back home and probably spending 6 hours or so doing soccer refereeing and coaching today, the last day of the indoor season. It’s a cool one, about 36F outside and only due to get to about 42F.

Lily, sounds like an important milestone has been met for the novel; hope formatting isn’t too big a chore.

Wheelie, nice to know sanity can prevail now and then.

And now you have me regretting I didn’t hold out for 5 Guys… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: And I took a Panama Canal cruise a couple years ago, I’d recommend it if you can work out the details and don’t mind 2 weeks on a ship.

boo fae, every little bit helps but I’m glad I didn’t have the job of counting it all out…and good that all the felines awaiting their new servants are doing well.

swampy, hope everyone’s bladder holds out.

FCM, best wishes that Old Man Winter stays on the other side of the Bay. Happy moving stuff!

Taterts, glad the visit with son went well, but are those pups now going to expect gourmet meals every day?

And that’s all for now, more once the great Soccer day is completed. Have a good Sunday all.

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I turned the heat back on when I got up this morning, given that it was 48 ferrets out and I was freezing. Thursday and Friday, I had the AC on, yesterday, nothing and today, heat. Getting quite the variety in February.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

JACK HUGHES BANGS BINNINGTON’S FIVE HOLE FOR THE OT WINNER TO WIN GOLD FOR THE USA!!! :ice_hockey:

Happy Washington’s Real Birthday!

As I often say, that’s the “best if eaten by” date, not the “turns into deadly poison” date.

Oops - misread that. It was 0600 22/2-1800 23/2.

That sounds interesting.

Something I’ve been meaning to ask: Does anybody know a source for gluten-free Nutty Buddy clones? Lady SCAdian misses being able to eat them.

How in the world did that happen?

Went through the canal on my first boat when we moved from Norfolk to Pearl Harbor. Almost everybody not on watch spent a few hours topside to enjoy the sun and the scenery. A lot of us took kimwipes (basically large paper towels with plastic threads like ripstop nylon) and put them up under our ball caps – think French Foreign Legion kepis – to keep from getting sunburnt necks. Three gunboats escorted us through the canal. One of them was a little thing like a Boston Whaler, equipped with a .50-calibre machine gun that looked to be almost as big as the boat itself. We passed three northbound cruise ship, all of which had hordes of people topside staring at us. Wish I could have gotten copies of some of the pictures they were taking!

Whatever that might mean.

The blizzard been changed to 1300 today until 1800 tomorrow, but the snow forecast is now 14-22 inches. Currently 31 Ferrets (-1 Centipede), with a predicted high of 35 (two). A blizzard isn’t just a lot of snow – it also includes a lot of wind; the forecast is 16-21 mph, increasing to 25-30 tonight, with gusts possibly up to 48 mph; For tomorrow they’re saying 24-32, gusting to 55. Presumably spring will arrive sometime in the next couple of months.

Breakfasted on a sausage & cheese bun and a bit of lebkuchen. Speaking of which, MIL left a fruitcake behind when she moved; it’s coming up on time to paint the top of it again. My favourite fruitcake recipe (which I’ll probably never get around to making) calls for alternating rum and peach brandy; we’ll probably just use rum.

Should probably do a load of laundry before the weather – excuse me, I mean the Weather – arrives.

Lady SCAdian and I went through the fridge and pantry, and decided there wasn’t anything that couldn’t wait until Wednesday (which is payday anyway). She had to go pick up a script for our daughter, though, and decided to stop at Aldi for bread, cheese and chips. The plan is still to make bread today, but it’s good to have a loaf on hand in case the power goes.

still rain here in philly. the switch over should happen soon. it has happened in delaware. huge flakes of snow there. phila is now in the blizzard waring zone.

looks like the gfs (which is the trelawney of weather models) might be correct this time. usually the euro tends to be the most accurate.

the thinking is that around 6pm is when the storm will kick into high gear.

the cats and i are set. i had ben and jerry for breakfast. getting in some last bit of goodies before sundown.

wheelz, i’m glad your job was postponed. nj is gonna have some crazy dig out from this storm.

jtc, i was watching a you tube last night showing fruit trees in containers. i thought of your lemon tree and enjoyed this morning’s update.

We got all the trash and recycling hauled to the convenience center - it was busy. I supposed GMTA - we all wanted to clear it out before the storm hit. Dunno about anyone else, but our cans were full and we had 3 bags of recycling, so it did need to be taken.

We also moved the cabinet to where FCD wanted it and put the handles back on the freshly painted drawers. Then he decided to quit for the day. He also told me he expects to die soon, which is just the sort of thing I need to hear. I’d mentioned to him that I think he needs to discuss his anti-depressants with the doc - he’s been more down than normal of late. It may also be an effect of not sleeping well. Dunno. I just wish he’d see someone about it.

Then the topper on the crap cake - evil white stuff is now falling. Dammit. So far it’s melting upon contact, but the temp will be dropping and I fear the white stuff will be accumulating. Dammit. I’m so over winter.

Aaaaaand it’s starting to accumulate. Dammit.

I cleaned, dusted and vacuumed. I changed Spot’s litter, and took out the trash and recycling. I also managed to step in dog poop. Been watching the YouTubes as it rained. Having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and poke loin with baked N.O.T. and Margerat Holes Pepper n’ Peas for dinner.

Ice hockey. Dude put the puck in the net thought the gap in the goalie’s pads and won the Gold Medal in overtime.

Joy.

Good evening everyone. It has been snowing all day, looking at the forest was like looking through a snow globe, it was beautiful. It didn’t really stick, there’s only about an inch on the ground.

I didn’t go to the capital, it was just too cold. I heard that there were a few diehards standing in the snow which made me feel bad.

Men can be so frustrating at times, I hope you can convince him to follow up.

Awwww, thank you  I’m sure that those citrus trees are doing better than mine, I have no idea what I’m doing and it shows.

Is this normal for your new local? From what I’m hearing here, we are going back to the old normal because winters have gotten warmer the last few decades. Not so in AZ, the drought is still ongoing and fire season is becoming a year-round thing.

Many banks and credit unions will count and roll for you. Back when I was doing adoptions, the credit union had a machine in the lobby for customers to use. It didn’t give you money, it gave you a receipt you had to take to the counter and deposit, then you could get your cash. If you weren’t a member, there was a fee involved, I think it was 5% but I’m not sure.

I’m so glad that he avoided that duty. I’d think that it would be pretty demoralizing.

That’s a decent haul for one day. Thank goodness for rescue vets who are willing to wait to be paid.

Lady SCAdian was out feeding/watering the rabbit when the snow started falling two hours ago. The porch now has a light dusting of it.

it is piling up now. once the switchover happened things really switched gears. in 1993 a sneaky storm happened in the beginning of march. this one reminds me of that one. heavy sloppy snow, that didn’t have much warning.

Howdy Y’all! I made it through two services without the need to pee. This was even after Priest had me chug about three ounces of wine from the chalice at the first service. On the upside, I did have a nice buzz for a few minutes. On the downside, the wine is port which I think is ick. I also prayed The Great Litany twice. I also heard the same homily twice which was fine cause it was a pretty good one. We got stoner food for lunch and nappage was achieved. We started the new season of Bridgerton on Netflix as well. The season may get binged tomorrow as it will be considerably cooler out and a good day to be in da cave and warm. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I think it won’t be long until sleepy time.

doggio I did indeed make a pit stop before leavin’ da cave. I usually do that at the church house before I suit up, so I made sure it was all good beforehand. I don’t know exactly what your post about bangin’ holes is about, but I have seen pron where that happened.

Wheelie glad TPTB came to their senses.

Dicey glad hubby is recovered.

MOOOOOOM hope the Tobester is better soonest and that they are all done with the germ fest.

Taters glad Mr. Taters, your son and the doggies had a good time together.

MetalMouse you’ll burn those KKs off chasin’ after rugrats.

136 pages of edits typed in, 103 to go. My shoulders and neck need a break, though.

Mrs. Nott went to the Tipsy Biscuit without me. The portions were generous, so she brought half of her meal in a box. She also got me a “half & half”, which is half an order of home fried potatoes, half an order of biscuits, and enough gravy to cover all of it. We had it for supper. I have a wild guess that the name Tipsy Biscuit is a pun on “ipse dixit,” a legal term for an unsupported assertion.

The Nat’l Weather Folks have notifried us of a Bomb Cyclone, which sounds ominous. We don’t have to be anyplace but here tomorrow.

The Olympics have finished lymping. Some of it was thrilling, some of it was boring, and a lot of earnest athletes fell down while trying to do their best ever thing. I watched part of the closing ceremony, which was mystifying. I know a few things about opera, but they lost me. I guess the Italians understood it, and it was their show.

Well, it’s suppertime. See you in the morning.

We have an inch and a half here in NE Ohio.

It’s been snowing close to 8 hours but no accumulation on the pavement and not much on the lawn. Forecast has it ending in another 5-ish hours and I’ll be very surprised if we have more than an inch on the driveway, if that much.

I ordered supper from Little Caesars - a trip down memory lane. It was our go-to for pizza when we lived in Middleburg, FL, but that was more than 30 years ago. Anyway, it wasn’t bad, tho delivery and tip was a pretty big percentage of our order. Worth it because of the weather but probably not otherwise since they’re only about 6 miles away.

We watched 2 more episodes of Shetland without the problems of last night. We’ll likely finish the season tomorrow night. For now, FCD has already gone to bed and I’ll head back shortly. What shall we awaken to? Find out in the next MMP!

Evening all. Been a very busy day for me, first went to the gym while still on the Krispy Kreme doughnut high, then went from there to the gym where I refereed Four 10U indoor games in a row. Thankfully another ref showed up and did the fifth and final game so I could coach my team (we tied 7-7) and by the time cleanup was accomplished it was 7:30pm and I hadn’t been home in 9 hours. So yeah, active. If I don’t sleep well tonight I never will.

It’s gotten colder here, the past two days were in the 70’s, I doubt we got much past 40F today and it’s down near freezing right now. Going to remain cool till the end of February but then looks like it’ll start warming up. No snow expected, but expecting a very wet Thursday.

And catching up with the Sunday doings…

doggio, I take it you were rooting for the USA to win gold… First time since 1980 which surprised me a little.

Herald, can’t help on the gluten-free stuff, I bought these on the spur of the moment figuring 7-12 years olds would like them (they did. A lot). And they have a big reviewing stand now near the Miraflores Locks at the canal where tourists can hang out and watch the ships get locked through.

All y’all facing the big storm take care, albeit the first reports here seem to indicate that it is not as bad as predicted.

FCM, I mean, out of the blue he mentions about dying soon? Yeah, double-check the meds and slip a sleeping pill in his evening tea or something.

JtC, the local Kroger has a counting machine but takes a fee also. I have about $4 in pennies already rolled, will have to take them in one of these days for cash, but given no new pennies are being produced, maybe I should keep them.

Swampy, glad you did the double without your bladder complaining (much). And did burn off some of the calories refereeing, along with the gym workout, so did not feel too guilty about a couple small cinnamon rolls (leftovers by the kids) with my evening sammiches).

Knots, was puzzling what “Tipsy Biscuit” was meant to stand for, goggled it and found out it stood for…the Tipsy Biscuit. Looks like an interesting place.

And it’s after 9pm and I have things to do before I slumber, so take care all and I’ll catch you in the next MMP.
