(Old) Friends, Romans, Penitents, Lent me your ear: An Ash Wednesday MMP

And a good late afternoon to all. Refereed 3 games, coached 4 and subsisted on Little Debbie Brownies and Honey Buns for the duration. Home now and decompressing and will have my usual Big Bowl O’Pasta later in the evening.

And now I have a lot of catching up to do…

Sticky Buns, That sounds more like Elder abuse than tough love to me. Hope you can get it stopped and some Professional help for your Mom. Hippo Birdies to Music Man and glad you ain’t senile. (I have gotten to SeetheNile in my life). And great news on the weight loss; I took nearly 3 years on my own to drop 100lbs, the trick now is trying to stay around that preferred weight.

FCM, glad Otis got to graduate, even if he was less than a stellar student. Happy paint day. And best wishes to Tobias.

boo fae, sounds like a busy Sattiday. Enjoy and hope Little Paws gets some good donations.

Knots, best wishes. Hope the soreness departs soonest.

rocky, wheelie, take care with the weather.

Cookie, glad grandson is home and getting lost is something I can sympathize with, if given a choice I will always take the wrong way (Google Maps and Garmin have helped lately).

Taters, hanging out and eating out with your son sounds like a marvelous way to spend a weekend.

Herald, mea culpa, as I noted above I am very cautious about sell by or use by dates, but you’re probably right that it isn’t a huge deal if I’m a week or so late. And sounds like you’ll be digging out of a pile of snow, so take care.

JtC, always nice to find forgotten treasures, hope you can get the stuff you need.

VanGO, enjoy doggie time.

Pavo, could have been deliberate or somebody just really, really hated that toothbrush… Hope the car repairs meet your expectations.

doggio, I know that on occasion you might get plastered, but that’s really going to far…and I wonder if the folks that ordered the tile from HD will ever get their order fulfilled…

flyboy, you and Missus do dine well.

And think I’m caught up for the moment, time to get that Big Bowl O’pasta working.

I hope that you were wearing a dust mask. That stuff can damage your lungs.

I did a load of towels / dog stuff this afternoon, then fixed a patty melt, sweet potato hashbrowns and a salad for supper.

Last evening, I made a trio of birthday cards. The one with the cats will be for SIL, given that she’s become a crazy cat lady. :stuck_out_tongue:

I use white vinegar. Much less expensive.

It is actually rather alarming, we’ve only been here for a year and a half (about). I don’t usually forget about kits that fast.

Or a kid was involved. Kids can do some really boneheaded things at times. So yeah, a kid hated their toothbrush

How do you make those? I’m not a fan, but Hubs orders sweet potato fries when we are out sometimes. Regular potatoes have too many carbs for his taste.

I do hope he doesn’t get sent to Iran next week.

Dad once got lost in parking lots. They were traveling and he forgot what the rental car looked like and was walking around the parking lot looking in windows hoping to see their stuff because then he could figure out which hotel he was staying. The police brought him to the right hotel and he went straight to bed.

Best of luck to you. My phone has been going off with regular storm warnings and we really don’t get the extreme storms.

Hubs is planning on going grocery shopping tomorrow. I think he’s gone and lost his mind, anything we really needed should have been bought today. We would be fine without shopping for a week. I would run out of cream and we wouldn’t have any fresh produce, but I’ve finally got enough food put back to tamp down my prepper insecurities.

Poor kittah! His life is so hard!

Do you have PPE at work, you needed a good dust mask for the plaster dust. That stuff isn’t great for anyone and I have the feeling that you breath in unhealthy stuff on a regular basis.

You look so skinny in that picture and your clothes are so baggy. Be proud!

George thinks the noisy bird sound means it is dinner time.

Hubs takes afternoon naps and sets his alarm to be sure that he is awake in time to give the fuzzbutts their gooshy fud as scheduled. Sometimes Hubs takes his nap earlier so the noisy bird doesn’t mean dinner is on the way and George gets so confused!

So not a lot happened here today. I got out the long handled dust mop and found another cat under our bed, then dusted the ceiling fan and the drawer pulls. I wasn’t thinking when I picked the furniture out, the external pulls and their plates get dusty and the 90 degree angles mean I have to take q-tips to them. Big mistake that I won’t repeat again!

Due to throwing dust all over the place, I also washed all the bedding and then mopped and polished the floor. Then I mopped and polished the hall. Then I put everything away and smoked a nice joint while watching the forest.

I saw a robin pecking around in our front lawn along with some starlings. Those are some pretty birds, I know they are invasive, but it isn’t their fault and I can’t hate on them.

Hubs is getting excited about spring and is starting to ask me about my planting plans. He’s suggested using the side yard instead of the back yard which is probably a very good idea. I don’t go out there much but there is a lot of room and the plants won’t get shaded by the house. I’ll be starting things inside this year, there was too much going on to even think about it last year.

So that’s about it from this part of the world. All of the storm warnings coming in are now bolded in red, so I think the storm is going to get close. Best to all who are going to be hit, I hope the power stays on and everyone stays warm.

I do too, for corrosion and such. But I am not about to put the CLR away after she got it out! I’m not stupid.

Howdy Y’all! Been a wonderfully slothful day in da cave. We did a late lunch instead of an early sup. Also, I got a bit productive and made a lemon icebox pie with a beeyootiful meringue. We cut it a little while ago and yum! I done good! The water has been cutoff at the church house cause there is a leak, but no plumber until Moanday. Services will go on, but no water, so no restrooms, water fountains and :astonished_face:coffee can’t be made. Notifications have been made via email, text, and social media, so hopefully most everyone is aware.

Everyone in the path of the storms and ick weather be safe. As for here, :musical_notes: It’s a rainy night in Jawja.:musical_notes:

Chloé wore her bark collar lat night, so she was quiet.

Mrs Magill and I did our Wednesday night shopping this morning, taking advantage of the Costco Executive member hour. We came home, did laundry, and read our books. We are just too exciting here.

Squeaky just got offered a job at the Whataburger that’s opening up nearby. We do not understand why he wanted to work in fast food, but here we are. I told him to watch out for his manager. In my experience, fast food managers are the worst - every one I have had the displeasure of working with has tried to get me to work off the clock or engaged in wage theft. I told him that you do not work for free and to never fall for that “We’re a family” bullshit.

We’re still wondering whether we’ll churchify ourselves in the morning.

Recipe pls? Sounds lovely.

Feeling tired, will be an early to bed night for me and tha dawg.

Up from a quick nap, watching some curling and someBeat Bobby Flay. Making spicy black bean and garlic stirfry for dinner tonight. With a Sazarac.

 :100:

HazMat has PPE. the rest of us are Redshirts to Carol and the Board.

:open_mouth:
Jesus didn’t have to suffer that much at Golgotha.

Well, it is Lent.

“We’re a family”
“So were the Mansons.”

And less toxic.

Pretty easy. Peel a sweet potato (or more for more people), shred it on a box grater’s large holes, roll in a kitchen towel to dry them briefly, then plop them in a skillet (like frying any kind of potato, a cast iron one works best) and fry until done.

I had a 1983 blue Mercury Lynx (basically a Ford Escort) back when it was the starter car for a lot of us. I’m embarrassed at how many times I lost that damn thing in big parking lots.

I finished up some father’s day cards, one for Dad and two for donation (hence the earliness), then shared a bowl of popcorn with Nelson.

So no soaking? That will make things easier

Been there done that. Sucks but what are you going to do? You can’t quit, Spot needs the top shelf gin.

If there are no restrooms, its best that coffee can’t be found.

I talked to Mom tonight and made her laugh about my lemon tree and the cats. Lemons don’t do well in West Bygawd Virginia so my tree is in my room with two grow lights. The humidity is way down because winter/furnace so I have to mist it three or four times a day. I don’t want the water drip on the floor so the surrounding area is covered with towels. We don’t keep the house warm enough for lemons so I have a small space heater by the pot. I also have a big pot of grass growing there as well.

So now I have a super spoiled lemon tree and two cats who love to lay on the towel between the heater and the tree while they look over their lawn.

Mom thinks our cats are spoiled. I just do not understand how come we always end up with the spoiled critters.

That was my first assumption, but it doesn’t fit through the drain pop-up assembly. The whole thing had to come out. That just seems really elaborate for a kid.

It’s also my preferred interpretation, but I’ve heard enough horror stories from the neighbors about these tenants (and seen how many times they’ve been sued, including twice by the guy who sold us the house) to believe they might have been petty enough to do something like that.

To be fair in retail I did the HazMat with less PPE. Plus Spot does get cranky without his gin.

Doesn’t seem like 5 hours since I last posted but just glanced at the clock and it 10:30pm. Time sure flies when your doing nothing. Ate, You-Tube’d, a few games of Spider Solitare, made a decision about Sunday dinner (if I wake up early enough, it’s Krispy Kreme, if I sleep in it’s 5 Guys) and cleaned out most of the soccer notes from the indoor season. I try to get rid of all the records with names and contact info, I would never contact a kid post-season, but no reason to keep the paper piling up, so into the shredder it goes. The rain has left the vicinity but it’s noticeably cooler, 42F heading down 32F which is a big change from the last several days of near-70F weather.

JtC, I don’t need huge parking lots to forget where I parked my car; I’m just happy if I head in the correct general direction and spot it. And I’ve added changing the HVAC air filter and the refrigerator water filter to my to-do list for tomorrow.

All y’all in the storms path be careful now.

The Horror! The Horror!!

Maus, good wishes to Squeaky, I enjoy Whataburger but not sure about how good it is to work at (of course, that could apply to most fast-food places).

Pavo, sounds like your neighbors ought to love you after neighbor from Hell.

And that is most definitely that for tonight. Take care all and catch up with you sometime Sunday.

Last draft is done! Tomorrow I’ll type these corrections in, then move on to formatting.

Wiser heads have prevailed, and the Philadelphia job (actually just across the river in Pennsauken) has been pushed back one week. Yay! My original flight already got cancelled anyway.

Hopefully none of the rest of you are traveling into the path of the storm in the next few days, and those of you already there are able to safely hunker down.

Swampy sweetly shared the recipe:

I haven’t made it. Not yet.

Hubby’s finally back to his normal energy levels after his surgery in mid January, do we‘re taking a long train ride today and there will be Five Guys for lunch.

And we might start planning a cruise for 2027 - one that transits the Panama Canal.

Haven’t finalized our excursion plan for our cruise this summer - gotta do that soon.

Happy Sunday!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s not that fucking funny outside. Sorry, I’ll try to do fucking better.” Looks ok to me, we have some sunshine today which is a nice change from the gloom and grey.

I hope it gives you some answers, hopefully some reassurance, and a plan to go forward with.

Treat for you to see him, and the pups will love him too!

It’s never a massive amount, and often it’s lots of small change. Our total was £277 so that’s probably going straight to one of the vets towards their bills.

Poor little ‘un, I hope he gets the right meds this time!

Awww…does Ms Peach enjoy the company of other humans as well as other dogs?

I’m glad they managed to get it fixed for you, even if they weren’t going to tell you about that bit!

That sounds like a very nice dinner date! It reminds me that I’ve got two slices of sourdough left so that will be for today’s lunch.

Scandalous! How will people cope? Will they have to stay away because there’s no coffee?

It’s the lemon tree that spoiled, the cats are simply being treated as royalty, as they should be

Yesterday was productive, I took ‘im indoors with me to do the bucket collection for Little Paws (we have to do these things in pairs) and also emptied the donation bin that we’ve got inside the supermarket. One of the girls had already taken some stuff from the bin as there was a lot of senior cat food in there and some sachets of stuff that the Baldy Boys like. I still collected a dozen boxes of food pouches, an assortment of single-serve pots of stuff, and an igloo bed.

We went straight over to Little Paws HQ to drop off the collection buckets and food donations, and also to pick up a raffle prize that my friend won. Di gave us a load of food for our mogs as she’d had a pallet delivery the day before and hadn’t got space for all of it. Now I’ve got a load of assorted food that our girls will either love, or turn their noses up at. Fortunately, anything they don’t like can be passed on to someone else in the fostering crew, or I can give it to one of our catsitters who volunteers for another local rescue. It won’t go to waste

We stayed long enough for a cup of tea and a chat, plus a bit of cat-fussing too, and caught up on the situation with the hand-rear kittens who are all much better and now very playful, and Ollie (who’s just had surgery to remove a 5cm tumour from his small intestine) who has strong opinions on wearing a cone and a little onesie to protect his stitches. He was stuffing his face when we arrived, and looked very much better.

‘im indoors made Thai curry for dinner, and I was in bed before midnight as I was tired. Up early this morning to tend to the needs of cats, then I will be off for a gym session with a PT after lunch. I’m making spagbol for dinner tonight, and might run the rollsuck later this afternoon. Or I might lay on the sofa with a book. Depends how the fancy takes me.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 68 and windy. We have a wind advisory in effect all day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have duty for both services. If necessary I could drive two miles up the road to a convenience sto’ between services. It seems we do have some folk who can’t make it through a service without a visit to le toilette. The peace is the ideal time for that. We shall do The Great Litany at the 10:30 service. This is a tradition the first Sunday in Lent at a lot of Whiskypal churches. Lunch and today’s main need to feed will be stoner food.

VanGo I see that Dicey posted the recipe for slacker lemon icebox pie that I posted some time back. I made the non-slacker version with the actual cooked fillin’ and real meringue yestiddy. I will endeavor to remember to post the recipe later today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today it’s currently 46 degrees Ferret Height(7.778 Centipedes) and raining. I shall do morning cleaning and watch the US/Canada Gold hockey game. I’m pulling for Canada, because the 2 Tkachuk brothers on Team USA are both absolute twatwaffles. Also, you know how cats make that “ekekekek” chirp when they’re excited by watching prey? I thought Spot didn’t, but I was making my bed and he was in my bedroom window, and he does but he whispers it.

For once.

Yay! Enjoy the ride.

People will defect to the Baptists. At least until cocktail hour.

Don’t forget the pre service pit stop.

Apparently it wasn’t the wrong meds so much as not enough for the complete course. At least that’s what SIL said. They’ve been a sickie house for a week - with luck they’re done sharing germs.

Otis was apparently exhausted yesterday - he even put himself to bed! FCD found him in his crate some time after 10. I wonder what, if any, of his fatigue was due to the new brain game I got for him. Our dog-sitter said those things really wear out the puppehs. But he did spend a lot of time outside running around, plus he had school. Today will be a mostly indoor day due to the ick - we’ll see if his brain game really does help wear him out.

It’s already wet outside, dammit. I was hoping to make a convenience center run before the rain started. Maybe we can do it anyway. A survey of forecasts puts us in the 1-3" or 3-7" band - it won’t take much movement either way for us to be in one or the other. I saw yesterday that the Eastern Shore was getting blizzard warnings - it didn’t extend to our side of the Bay, so there’s that. Bottom line - we’ll see what we see. I did get some cash yesterday, so if we have to call the plow guy, we can pay him. All forecasts agree we won’t get proper warmth (in the 50s) until Wednesday. So there’s that.

The other plan for today is putting the shop back together. The paint should have dried overnight, providing the pellet stove didn’t kick off. For some reason, the “too hot” detector has been kicking off lately. Dunno if it’s the detector itself or something else. We’ll have our chimney/stove guys have a look at it when they come in April. Anyway, we need to get the table back in place then move a file cabinet from the supply room to the space beside the table. Not sure why - he has his reasons and I’ve learned not to ask…

We tried to watch the 3rd episode of Shetland on BritBox last night but it kept going into the mode where everything freezes and the little spinny thing shows up on the screen. I didn’t have that problem on Tubi, so it didn’t seem to be the internet provider. Dunno. I gave up on Monarch of the Glen - right after the “I told my pen pal I was the laird - will you switch places with me when she visits” episode. Have we really run out of original script ideas? I just couldn’t wade thru the first episode of the 4th season. Luckily, there’s plenty of stuff to stream out there.

First World problems.

Happy Sunday!
