Starting the day at 39 Ferrets and seeing a little blue in the sky, heading to mid-50s today. This morning 2 of the 3 forecasts I looked at yesterday are saying 3-5 inches of evil white stuff over Sunday night, and accuweather still insists it’ll just be a coating of less than an inch. We’ll run by the credit union for some cash just in case we need to get our plow guy. Dammit.
This morning shall be for painting the new saw table/cabinets. FCD will clean everything and I’ll make it all gray. The part I’m not looking forward to is having to get on the floor… unless his short roll-around seat is the right height. We shall see.
It’s the last day for Otis training. The class hasn’t been what I’d hoped, mainly because it’s in PetSmart and there are far too many distractions. Plus Trevor is there, and Otis lurves rasslin’ with Trevor. Really, we need to work with him at home more. He’s a smart dog, but stubborn.
Not a lot on the agenda, but we know things will pop up, so maybe some adventure awaits. Or not. Whatevs…
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and mostly cloudy. Weather app is peevish, and says “Fucking loitering clouds”.
I’m sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she can get the care she needs (and you will have less to be stressed about). Happy birthday to MusicMan, hope the celebrations are fun, and a massive Yay! on the weight loss
Yesterday was a fun day, irk wasn’t too bad and I got home without too much bother. I saw that there were lots of delayed trains on the campus line so I got a bus back to Big City Station instead. Not too bad because the schoolies are on holiday this week. I’d got leftovers out of the freezer for dinner so we had some food and then headed out.
We went to the Giffard to see some bands, had a lot of fun but the place wasn’t that busy. I had a chat with the headline band’s singer afterwards, turns out he was born in the next town over to where I was born! Anyway, there was something on at KK’s that night too, so after that finished, the pub filled up very quickly. We decamped to the Posada and had a couple of drinks there, nattered to the barstaff, and fussed the landlady’s puppy.
I was up late this morning, the cats didn’t seem too bothered, their needs were tended to and we are sorting ourselves out for the day. I’ve got to finish my cuppa, then have a shower and get some lunch before we head out to do our bucket collection. Apparently there’s some donations in the collection bin at the supermarket so I’ll pick those up and drop them off at Little Paws HQ when we’re done. I will take the collection buckets back to Di, drop off some tombola prizes that I’ve had at home for a while, and pick up a raffle prize that my friend won. He doesn’t live locally but we’ll be seeing him in March so it’ll keep until then.
Good morning, folks! Weather here is going to be right around freezing all day, with clouds, rain, and snow.
Yesterday’s evaluation went well, I guess, but I sure had a lot of muscle soreness afterward. There were things I could do easily, things I could do with difficulty, and a few I just could not do. This was not a pass/fail kind of a test. I wouldn’t even be there if I didn’t have Parkinson’s. The question is, “How far has it progressed?”
It’s 39F and cloudy outside. We’ll have periods of rain, a daytime high of 45F, and there is a wind advisory.
Sticky, so good to see you pop in. I’m sorry about your mother. Good job on the weight loss, and I hope the celebration of Mr. Music Man continues to be nice.
My son arrived mid-afternoon yesterday with treats for the pups. We later drove out to the french bistro and enjoyed a nice meal. The chef even came out to check and see that we had enjoyed our meal.
We came home and hung out. Today we have tentative plans to go to the German deli and then the German restaurant for lunch.
Other than that, we’ll hang out. I need another cup of coffee and then I’ll goof off on the interwebs for a little more.
I feel for her. When I was in ICU, I had a night nurse who had an attitude problem. Your mom’s nurse needs to either get more education or get out of the business.
Good job!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I may do a load of towels this afternoon, but otherwise, another RDOS day.
When I got up to go to the bathroom around five o’clock this morning, I heard a rooster crowing. It struck me as odd, given that a) I live in a very urban neighborhood with mostly apartments, b) it was long before dawn and c) when I woke up for good around 0730, the dude was still crowing. I have to wonder just where this bird lived.
Just the facts, man, just the facts. Admittedly no experience with aging soda, but a couple years ago I had a tin of soup (Progresso, I think) for lunch. Wasn’t bulging, leaking or excessively rusty, smelt just like soup when I opened it, and tasted fine. It was a little over two years past its “best by” date.
35 Ferrets (2 Centipedes) here, with a predicted high of 42. Precipitation is supposed to start tonight (20%) and continue through Monday (90%), We have a blizzard warning in effect from 0600 Washington’s Real Birthday until 0600 Monday, with 10-18 inches of snow on offer. Don’t think this will call for another test of the French Toast Emergency System, but we’ll check to see if there’s anything that can’t wait until Tuesday to be bought. Fortunately, we’re on the local electrical system, not the one that covers most of the rest of the state, so if we lose power it probably won’t last long.
Supper last night was a crockpotted chunk of pork butt with carrots, onions and NOT. I predict more of the same for lunch and/or supper tonight.
Hubs has an alarm on his phone that sounds like a rooster crowing. Is that a possibility?
Sticky I’m so sorry your mom has such a bitch for a nurse, I hope you get that resolved soon. Congrats on the weight loss!
I’ll bet they are always overjoyed to see him arrive. Not just the treats, but someone young who can really tussle with them.
Good luck, get lots of money, fix many cats!
Accuweather has been all over the place in the past couple od days, the forecasts for the weekend have been changing almost hourly. Today it should get to the mid 50’s with snow tonight. Or not, depending on their mood at the moment.
Not a lot on the agenda for today. We try to avoid going out on the weekends, that’s a hold over from AZ, it isn’t such an issue here.
I found a kit I had forgotten I had yesterday. I’m happy I bought it, it does look like fun, but I really cannot remember it at all. I must have gotten it with something else and put it away. It needs scrolling bars and I don’t really have the right size. I hope I can get something at Hobby Lobby, my frames are threaded and it will be hard to find something correct without having them in my hands. I think I saw a Michaels in Huntington, maybe I’ll go next week. I want to look for another vase anyhow.
I seem to recall reading that “Best By” dates indicate when the company absolutely guarantees the quality - I guess that’s how long they decided to test. That doesn’t mean the next day it will putrify, just that they make no promises after the printed date. So the nutritional values may diminish, or not. The flavor may not be at peak, or it might. But in general, canned goods don’t spoil for many years.
I can attest that caffeine-free diet coke gets absolutely gross when it’s a couple of years past its date. It didn’t make me sick, it just tasted disgusting. One of my sisters, and consequently her kids, will throw away food the day after its sell-by date. Goodness knows how much milk they’ve dumped down the drain over the years… I am an advocate for the sniff test, tho sometimes a visual exam will tell you it’s time to toss.
First coat of paint is done. The wood parts are fine, but the metal needs to be done again. I should be able to get it done later this afternoon. I’ve just had lunch and we’ll be heading to the final doggie class in 40 minutes or so.
The weather channel site is now saying 1-3" and accuweather says up to an inch. Step right up and place your bets!
Oh, and Tobias has strep again - Daughter suspects they prescribed the wrong meds or the pharmacy filled it wrong. They’re looking into it today. Poor little guy.
I thought about taking Ms Peach to the dog park today, but if my yard is as muddy as it is from melting snow, the park will be a mess. So we’re hanging at home and doing laundry, roll-suckage, and kp.
Tomorrow we’ll do our sunday visit to the museum. My boss brings her dog in, and I’ve been taking Peach in for a wrassle. Ms Peach is faster and more clever, but they make for a good pair. Most of the staff come in to have doggie time.
FCM Sorry to hear about the Tobester having strep again. Hopefully they can get the med right this time.
Howdy all. At the second gym awaiting the first of three games I am going to coach (couple of other coaches are out) which will keep me busy until 4pm or so. Almost could play outside it’s 64F and clear skies.
OK, maybe I am a bit overcautious on food dates but if I can stay within them without to much hassle I’ll do so. Got to have some stubborn habits, don’t I?
Anyway the kids are arriving so I’ll talk with you later.
Grey but not gloomy, no precip. Kitty cats accounted for. Shiso has lost one of the excess baby teeth. Maybe more, but with her current energy level, I’m not sticking my fingers in there.
My lovely wife made waffles for breakfast. I’m going to a book reading later, and otherwise will do a combo of editing and some time-sensitive tasks.
This was outside. I seriously doubt that a phone would be loud enough for me to hear it from my bathroom. Besides that, I know from my irk life what those damn rooster ring tones sound like (the response used to be for someone to say put that chicken in the soup pot).
Poor Tobias. I hope that he feels better soonest Moooooom.
Otis was in rare form in class today - even Trisha had problems getting him to listen. But we survived and we’re home now - no more formal training. We’ll just have to work with him at home. I got him a busy box thing that’s supposed to keep dogs engaged as they try to figure out how to get all the treats. He quit when he couldn’t figure out the last 2. Wuss.
His “graduation” pic:
I had no idea my hair looked that awful!!
Tobias seems to be OK - SIL said apparently they just didn’t give him enough antibiotics for the full course. I had invited Daughter to bring the kids over tomorrow to play, but she doesn’t feel up to it. Which is fine by me
Time to change into grubbies and paint the second coat.
Finally feel somewhat human, but still have a bit of a cough and wheeziness. Did some work around the house, and hit a wall. Going to nap soon.
One of those tasks was opening up a couple of slow drains. The drain in the hall bathroom upstairs has been a bit slow since we moved in almost two years ago, but I’ve been neglecting it because it wasn’t that bad and we don’t use that bathroom much. Finally got to it today and found the culprit.
It was below the pop-up drain assembly, and doesn’t fit through, which makes me think it was a deliberate fuck you from the previous tenants (the guy we bought from has rented the house out for a year or so), who were not nice people.
Got an email saying the repairs on my car are finished. I was never informed they were started. The shop’s not open until Monday, so I guess I’ll find out for sure then. The insurance app says that repairs were completed Feb 12, which is clearly wrong, but could be a typo for Feb 21. Who knows.
i was doing the usual 100/200 Slide, with trips to the 100 and 200 Sort Tables. Also, somebody ordered 14 bags of Plaster of Paris, to be delivered Friday. Except they gave up working on Fridays for Lent. So 7 50lbs boxes of the stuff went through the belt system, out on a package car, back to the center, back through the belt system, and then down the 100 Slide. Because Plaster of Paris has the consistency of flour, and is bagged about the same. And it was from Home Depot. So the stuff seeped out of the bags, the boxes self destructed, and I had to rebox(also I bagged them), and got covered with Plaster dust. I’m surprised I didn’t grow a full body cast when I showered. And speaking of HD, remember me ranting about them shipping porcelain floor tile in too big of box, with just a single sheet of kraft paper? Well the solved it by ditching the box, and just shipping the tile box(half thickness cardboard with a hole in the bottom) naked, except for a plastic strap. Yeah that didn’t work either. So the typical lon Saturday, and Spot needed extra attention because he was alone for 20 minutes. Naptime!
Yeah, she needs it.
{{{{sticky}}}}
This is why you have 10 fingers. Spares.
Well, you did say Otis went full Attention Deficit Dog in class…
[10th Doctor]People assume that car repairs are a strict linear progression. But actually, from a nonlinear, non-subjective viewpoint, it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff."[/10th Doctor]
But glad it’s fixed, and you got the monkey wrenchtoothbrush out of the works.
What I didn’t say earlier about the PD evaluation is that all the muscles in my legs are really sore. Just standing up and walking around the house hurts. I had to skip brunch with family at the Tipsy Biscuit.
The weather service made a huge change in philly weather. They are saying 8-14”. They are thinking the storm will hug the coast.
The coastal islands in ny and ma are going to get pounded.
They have canceled the shuttle for Monday. Good thing I brought the laptop home. The stores were getting crowded today. There wasn’t a long prep time with this storm. So people were doing the headless chicken run.
Yeah, it still looks like it’s going to snow all day tomorrow and half of Monday in Philly. We’re all scheduled to arrive on Monday afternoon.
The operations manager texted the team this morning, and I was truly hoping he was going to tell us all to change our flights to Tuesday. Instead, he wanted to remind us to “be sure to keep everyone posted on any delays.”
At least I have a direct flight. If I have a flight at all.
Had a good lunch with the relatives. It was great to be able to welcome my grandson back from the Middle East. His ANG unit was deployed over a year ago. Luckily, he was in a support outfit and not tactical. In his first tour, which was to Afghanistan, he was in the northern part of the country and had to escort outreach units who were trying to recruit village leaders. They also had drone escorts and were lucky not to come under any fire. I did manage to get lost in the town where the restaurant was located. My son finally called me, then came to find me (I was NOT crying!) and lead me to where the others were waiting.
Mrs. LA. treated us to The Black Cat in Fairhaven today. She had a very nice-looking grilled cheese sandwich on parmesan-encrusted sourdough, and a bowl of tomato soup. I had steamed Manilla clams. Her soup looked so good, I ordered some too. She had two tarty-cinnamony cocktails, and I had two View Carré cocktails. Our server put the VC recipe on the bartender’s menu. She was grateful I’d told her where she might find their Benedictine liqueur.
Home now, waiting for 4 o’clock to feed the kitties.
SWMBO said the shower head was leaking, so I took it off and we soaked it in CLR (why not?). And I cleaned the pipe and put new sealing tape on it.
