More the cat equivalent of grunting than screaming.
As is often true, early sun gives way to clouds, but it should get warm enough for a walk later.

Good Morning. I had a rough night last night. We had gone to Squeaky’s CPA Practice Band concert last night. His band sounded excellent. I’m hoping for high marks. Unfortunately, that meant Chloé had to be crated for three hours while we were gone. I guess three hours in, then 90 minutes out before going in for the night was too much crate time for her. She started barking at 1:30. I’d already had a hard time getting and staying asleep. I went and got her out at 1:37, thinking she may have to pee. We went outside, and she took a good, long squat, and we went back inside. I had barely drifted off when she started barking again. After twenty minutes, I got up and told her to hush, which she would for about ten minutes. At 2:30, I figured she may need to poop, since she hadn’t earlier in the evening. I took her back outside, where she decided to have a sniffapalozza. I was not playing that game, so back inside we went. After another hour of intermittent barking, Mrs Magill went into Chloé’s room, and soothed her a bit. I think Chloé realized that Primary Human was not pleased, so she settled down. My alarm went off at a little before 5:00, I dragged myself out of bed and decided, “Screw that noise,” and went back to sleep, so no walkies. Also no coffee, because Lent.
Stupid Lent.
25F at 1115. Looks like the roads are all clear, so tomorrow’s lunch with some family should work out. Breakfast was a pumpernickel bagel with avocado and some scramble on the side.
Heard from an old military mate that I haven’t seen or talked to since about 1980. He was one of the good ones in a group of mediocre guys back then and he ended up making a career of it, retiring from the military about five years after I did. It’s nice that some of these guys have good memories of our time together.
Don’t tell anyone, but we still have the placards we got for MIL. We’ve never used them since she died, but… However, the parking issue at the restaurant isn’t related to the number of spaces - it’s the configuration of the lot - it’s a one-way street and very narrow. And the Santa Fe is a rather large vehicle, which adds to the challenge. It’s not bad for weekend breakfast since it’s not a regular work day, but weekday lunch? I suspect that’s another story.
Last load in the dryer. FCD has come home and we’ve discussed tomorrow’s plans - specifically the painting I’ll be doing. But for today, just one more load of clothes to fold and stow.
Before we took the end table downstairs, FCD looked inside and found two containers of Christmas cookies - one for each of the grands. They were from my sister, and I’m not sure why they were in that table. So FCD is noshing on them. I took a couple of small ones - amazingly, they’re not too stale.
The basement is less messy than it was. I trashed a bunch of MIL’s old kitchen stuff before FCD saw any of it. He’s been really weird about getting rid of any of his parents’ stuff, so I’m stuck with a lot of “county” decor items which I really don’t like. The things that were still boxed and tucked in the basement have been getting cleared out gradually and he’s not missed any of it. I hate to be sneaky, but I don’t want our house to become a shrine either. Part of the problem, IMHO, he’s never really mourned them so he won’t let go. If he dies before I do, there’s a lot of stuff that will end up at the thrift store.
And on that happy note. I think I’ll have a little tablet time as I wait for the dryer to finish its cycle.
We bought thin but more tightly woven bedspreads for our bed, the guest room, the sofa, and the love seat so we’d have matching covers that are easy to wash fur from and, if clawed up, will be an easy donation to the humane society. I’d have preferred a basic slub to the waffle weave, but there were none in my price range, and these look pretty good.
I’m in negotiations about some presentations and workshops for writers. Had a few more publications to add to my “Add to Creative Resume” file.
I was the youngest and most mobile customer at the grocery sto. And I’m 68. I guess Friday is senior citizen day. I’m home, in my jammies, watching watching the Olympics and reading. My idea of a perfect Friday afternoon.
Can’t believe you passed up a good deal for such a feeble excuse!
Personally, I bet they’d be fine for another 3 months or so. Especially if kept cool/cold. When sodas get hot, they degrade pretty fast.
We went to Salsa’s for supper because I didn’t feel like cooking. Chillage will be the order of the evening. Painting tomorrow. Rah.
The weather channel website says we could get 3-5" of snow on Sunday night. Accuweather says dusting to maybe an inch. Nat’l weather service says 1-3" - so who do I believe??? Guess we’ll see what we see.
Same here. No. One knows how this storm will act once it gets to the coast. I’m betting we will get disappointing snow. I did bring home the work laptop, so that should stop any snow fall.
I’m supposed to fly into Philadelphia on Monday, so the less snow the better.
Even we’re supposed to get down into the forties here in Houston.
We did afternoon yoga today, and there’s a vegetarian chili in the instant pot.
Howdy Y’all! I did my duty and hung around to do Stations of The Cross which happens at noon on Firdays durin’ Lent. Priest and I discovered a leak in the ceilin’ near the organ. Buckets got put out to catch the drips. It rained early this mornin’ so maybe there’s a roof leak. Can’t be from a water line as there is no water on that side of the buildin’. Oh well, it’s a Junior Warden problem and not mine. I went to LJS and got fish and chips to take back to da cave and eat. It was OK. Nappage, day drinkin’ and starin’ at stuff on the teevee rounded out the day.
Mi Esposa had her leftover tamale and rice and refried beans for dinner. I had leftover pork Schnitzel w/anchovies, and blue cheese-stuffed olives. Goo got a piece of anchovies.
I will soon eat half an acorn squash. I’ve been editing today. I also looked up what I received during the procedure last month, and it can spike cholesterol and triglycerides, so I’ll guess it can affect liver enzymes, too. Can’t account for the A1c increase, but I had few side effects from the last set of pens, so it could be that the pharmacy gave me a spoiled box.
Evening all. Gym was treaded and biked and a combination of Cheese Dogs and Salad took care of my nutritional needs, so just taking it easy until I head off to bed. Busy day tomorrow, a bunch of the other soccer volunteers are heading to a meeting in Chattanooga, so I am refereeing three games and coaching four (two of my own and two where the coaches are out), so not much of a break from 8am to 4pm. Have picked up snacks for the kids and must try to restrain myself from ‘sampling’ them. Rain is expected later tonight but should be dry by the time I awaken.
And see what there is to see…
Maus, hang in there, hopefully Chole has learned some patience and will quiet down tonight.
Cookie, enjoy the family lunch and great the veteran friend remembered you and got in touch.
FCM, amazing isn’t it the things you find when moving stuff.
And it just started raining outside, a bit earlier than expected.
Wet one, I get lots of Moms at my Kroger, it’s right next to a large elementary school so they drop the kids off and then come over and do their shopping.
Herald, presume that was tongue firmly affixed to cheek, I’ve become rather overly conscious of the due dates on stuff after several experiences tossing food out. And FCM, they probably would have been fine, but why take a chance when other options good through May/June are available.
Swampy, hope the leak get patched quickly.
And everyone have a good Firday and look forward to the weekend.
Up from naptime. Having an Aviation for cocktail hour, along with whiting, brown rice and spinach. Watching curling.
Barking and no coffee? You’ve nailed the suffering part of Lent down.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday. It’s currently 59 degrees Ferret Height(15 Centipedes)
In my attempt to get a quick summary I read this as “antiseptic marmosets.” Not quite the same…
Well, it’s been awhile. Things really haven’t changed much overall. My mom is still in the hospital. They did two ECT treatments. After the second one it appeared that they’re was an issue with her heart. It took them three days to get her to a hospital with a cath lab, but they checked her out and there were no blockages in her heart. The issue was most likely caused by stress. So, we’re just waiting to see what they’re going to do with her next. Right now she’s in ICU. But, honestly, she seems much better than when she went in. She’s not sure about the psych ward because one of the workers there is being very strict/mean about trying to get her to walk. As in, she doesn’t care that it’s difficult for my mom to walk and that she has pots and that she is very weak, she just expects her to get up at walk. And when she can’t she is very mean to her. I’m guessing that the nurse is thinking of it as tough love, but it’s not getting either of them anywhere. And I asked my mom if she told anyone about it. She did and the person that she told didn’t do anything but tell the offending party and that ramped things up even more. I’m going to inquire today about a patient advocate.
In the meantime we’re here celebrating birthday weekend for MusicMan. His birthday is Monday and his two sons came in last night and I’m not sure what the celebrations will be today. I’m really glad they came for him, though. It definitely makes a good birthday present.
I finally got the results from the neuropsychologist. They were wonderful in one respect - no indications of dementia! And while that is completely awesome, there was nothing particularly remarkable other than noting that I am adversely affected by stress. Huh. Who would have thought.
So, last thing before I run away is that (I don’t believe I had hit this milestone and shared this yet) I have lost 100 pounds. I now have 50 more to go before surgery.
Ok, well, good morning. Catch y’all later!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 81 and cloudy with rain late afternoon and through the night. This will be followed by a couple of cool days and then temps more normal for this time of year. The plan for today is RDOS sloth. There’s nowhere we need or want to be. Sup shall be grilled ham steak, field peas with snaps, au gratin N.O.T. and rolls.
Sticky_Buns a whole lot goin’ on there. I am inclined to agree with the idea of a patient advocate for your mom. Good to know she’s doin’ better however. Hope MusicMan has a great bday weekend. Conga rats on the weight loss! That is an impressive and major accomplishment!
Maus hope you had a better night. Barky dawg, little sleep, and no caffeine ain’t for sissies!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
