(Old) Friends, Romans, Penitents, Lent me your ear: An Ash Wednesday MMP

I love seeing people’s annual weather/temperature wall hangings, quilts, scarves, etc.

Still pretty cold, though we had sun for a couple of hours, which put Topaz into an ecstatic state (she also found yesterday’s snow fascinating, being a young thing who’d never seen it before). I took Shiso to the vet because she has so many adult teeth erupting without the baby teeth dropping. Her teefs were checked and she was pronounced fine. The tech would like her to eat less because she gained more weight than they like to see in a few weeks, to which I nodded and smiled, but the kitten was such a malnourished little beast that I don’t think “the amount of weight gain we want to see on average in a month” is the correct way to assess how much weight this kitty should gain. All I can say is, she’s doubled in weight in the 5 weeks we’ve had her, I can still feel her ribs, she no longer has super-soft stool, she’s growing whiskers, her joints are no longer denuded, her eye isn’t running, and she’s getting glossy. She still has some muscle weakness, she’s still sneezy (likely feline herpes), and she has jillions of teeth. I’m okay with cutting her food back later, not now.

Still editing. I had trouble with two drafts mingling for unknown reasons, and I’m now proofreading the chapters from before I discovered that, so it’s taking about twice as long as I’d thought it would. I’ll get to page 100 of 239 tonight, and have nothing else on my agenda tomorrow.

Up from naptime, watching the Women’s Olympic Hockey Gold Medal game. Having a Monte Cassino, Smoked Paprika Chicken, cheesy potato rounds, and green beans.

Spot keeps me guessing.

Poo. I hope they find the right dosage quickly.

So FCD didn’t wreck himeself, or didn’t admit it, yet?
And you need to get him this.

Fireplace, or Ford arson?

Yep. Glad she’s doing better, even if she’s more tooth than cat.

We haven’t got a Ford, so I started a fire in the wood-burning stove insert.

I tend towards a veggie heavy diet, although I eat the occasional two piece from the good chicken joint. :stuck_out_tongue: Truly, a third of my grocery budget is from the produce department.

lily, it sounds like Shiso is a well cared for kitteh. Feed her what she needs.

Late night final. All You Tubes watched (mostly Girl With the Dogs and Champions League Highlights) so heading off to bed shortly. Looks like the rain will give us a pass this time, but temperatures will be heading downwards anyway.

flyboy, I’ve done that before, usually catch it but at higher speeds (I know I’m not going 94MPH…) than you so I probably would have been fooled too.

Lily, I agree, let little one come up to weight and then control the diet. God wishes with the editing.

We, at least we didn’t start the fire…

And off to Slumberland. Talk with all y’all tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 57 degrees Ferret Height( 13.889 Centipedes). There is a DENSE FOG ADVISORY in effect.

Heave well. I’ve been awakened by not by the necessity of heaving, but by Cat Olympics.

We have a cold weather advisory.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and rain. TWPTB say rain the next three days. We shall see. I shall take care of candle and other duties this mornin’. It bein’ Lent, there are two whole candles to deal with. Sup will be fish ‘n chips and coleslaw from Captain D’s. Not excitatin’, but it’ll feed.

red I am jealous. Haven’t had Hartz fried chikin in years. Looks like you had a good day out. Yay for the continued improvement!

JtC sorry hubs is havin’ such a hard time with gout. Hope he finds the right med(s) soonest. Glad you found the info on your dad.

Lily hope the dietary changes help. Also, I agree Shiso does not need less food. She is gettin’ healthy and has found the best home ever.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I will purtify and go deal with the stuff. I will not likely encounter other people, so I can get away with shorts, Tshirt and sneaks.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/43f with a predicted high of 9c/49f and rain showers. Weather app says “It’s rainy and fucking shitty outside. Don’t forget your fucking waders!”

I was, thank you! The garage man rang at lunchtime to say that Keith was ready to come home, so I went up there after my 2pm meeting so I could get back before the evening rush started.

We have adopted that as a useful descriptor, I think otherwise we’d call it a food van (if it had a cab and an engine) - this particular thing is a small trailer that needs to be towed into position by a car so it’s got no particular vehicular power itself. It’s basically a small box on wheels!

I must admit it was a surprise to me the first time I visited the US, because you needed a car to do pretty much anything. We are lucky to have decent public transport, and have a lot of things very close to us. There’s actually a garage just past my usual bus stop (less than five minutes’ walk from home) that I could use but my preferred one is a 20-30 minute walk instead. I’m also baffled by the plans for new housing developments near the station because they have no “facilities” so anything there would be a good long walk into the town centre.

That would explain why I’m always tired! I do look forward to the occasional quiet work week, and a weekend when I have no plans. They don’t happen very often though

I’m sorry to hear that, you must both be very frustrated as you’ve been trying so hard to work on his diet.

Lily cuteness overload!!

Yesterday turned out to be busy but productive as I did get quite a lot done, including dropping off and fetching Keith. He’s now safely back outside my front door in his little off-street parking space, and I put all the stuff back in the boot that I remembered to take out before he went to the garage. ‘im indoors made Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice for dinner, and I was in bed at a reasonable time.

Up at the crack of sparrow’s fart this morning for an easier commute to work. I finally managed to talk to the lady from DWP and that turned out to be both useful and frustrating at the same time. I’m trying to get some equipment for one of my minions, and also get some workplace adjustments in place for him but I am blocked by senior management, HR and budgets. However, DWP can help with some stuff, and they can make recommendations which may carry a bit more weight with TPTB.

Then I had a meeting with Troublesome Minion, who asked a lot of questions about our upcoming office move, to which I have neither influence nor answers. She’s reasonably happy today so that’s a blessing. Now I might actually be able to get some work done.

I took something out of the freezer for dinner tonight, we need something in a bit of a hurry as we’re off to see some bands at the Giffard so we need to be out of the house less than 2hrs after I get home from irk! Tomorrow we have a bucket collection in a local supermarket, I’m dragging ‘im indoors along to help as we have the last 2hr block of the day. I’m hoping I can take the collection buckets straight over the Little Paws HQ afterwards and also drop off some stuff for the next tombola, as well as picking up a raffle prize that a friend won. The friend lives up north but will be coming down here for a gig soon and will pick it up from me. Busy, busy, busy!

When we got Otis, he was skinny from who knows how long on his own, and our vet told us that ribs were one way to determine if he was at a proper weight. Once you could no longer see them but could feel them with light pressure, then all was good. If you have to press harder to feel them, then the critter is likely overweight. I assume the same applies to cats. Old lady Ziva is going the opposite way - she’s feeling bony, but I don’t think that’s unusual for her being almost 18. Anyway, I think your tech is wrong, and we know what my opinion is worth!

Neither of us got hurt. My upper body strength is, as ever, not very good so we paced ourselves according to my need to rest or readjust. And before we flipped it upside down or rightside up, we discussed exactly how we’d do it so we were on the same page. The trickiest part for me was after we carried it into the shop upside down and had to right it - I had to move one hand which meant I was supporting my end with the other hand alone. But we did it without bloodshed or bruises, so it was a win! Now that it’s in place and modified as he wants (with cabinets installed beneath it) I’ll be painting it all tomorrow.

Today is starting in the upper 30s heading, theoretically, to the low 60s. After a bit of morning rain, the sun should appear in mid-afternoon. We shall see how that goes. It’s Laundry Day and Rearrange the Basement Day! Since the big table is gone, I’ll be moving all the toys and such to sit against that wall - after it gets a thorough rollsuck.

The little diner we discovered recently does what looks like a yummy lunch of fish and fries - I don’t need all those calories, but it looks sooooooo good. Still deciding. It is about 20 miles away and right next to the base, so chances are parking will be a chore and there will be wait time, so maybe not. Must think on it.

And so the day begins. Happy Firday!!

At the Olympics, the women’s free skate was stunning. Hairdressers across America will be scrambling to learn how to do that striped hairdo Alysa Liu wore. Or maybe they already know. I know zip about hair dye tech.

Today, I’m going to get an “evaluation” for Rock Steady Boxing therapy for my Parkinson’s Disease. It’s very windy today, and I hope it doesn’t knock me over. Mrs. Nott just brought in the flag because of the wind. Now, it’s time for breakfast.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 28F and cloudy outside. It’ll remain cloudy all day, and our expected daytime high is 43F. We had snow flurries all morning and most of the afternoon yesterday, but none of it actually stuck. We expect rain tomorrow.

BooFae, yay for Keith being back home. I hope the rest of your day goes smoothly, as well as the bucket collection tomorrow.

FCM, it’s good to know no one was hurt with the big table operation.

Lily, adorable kitty pictures.

AskNott, I hope the evaluation provides the information you need.

JtC, I’m sorry the diet isn’t helping Mr. Cane. I hope the med/med adjustment goes smoothly.

I washed all the bedding yesterday for both my bed and the guest bedroom. For my bed that meant four loads alone. Mattress cover and towels, sheets and pillowcases; blanket, and finally the comforter. The guest bed was much easier. That was only two loads: the comforter and the sheets. The rest of the bedding for that room was already clean.

My friend T called me yesterday, and we had a nice catch-up. She’s been busy with some travel and work. She caught me up on all the crappy stuff happening back at the office. Morale is very low, and people are struggling. It wasn’t that way until last year, and the decimation just continues. At any rate we moved back on to more positive stuff and will try to find some time to get together soon. She and her sweetie have a lot of weekend travel plans coming up.

My son is coming up later today, and we’re going to a little French bistro for dinner. It’s a small place, but the food is delicious.

I’m not sure if my son plans to stay the weekend or even overnight, but it’ll be good to see him.

I’ll have to run the rollsuck this morning, but that’s all I’ve got going for tidying up.

Alrighty, time for some more coffee. You all take care of yourselves.

Showered and dressed. Laundry has been hauled downstairs, sorted, and the first load is washing. I’ve unloaded the dishwasher and started reloading it. FCD has left for Lowe’s and Otis is not happy about being left behind. It’s raining, so I can’t (won’t) throw the dog out, so he’s pouting. Daughter has strep - she’s deciding on WFH or PTO for the day. Such excitement in FairyChatLand.

When I have to swap out laundry loads, I’ll attack the mess that is the basement. It shouldn’t take too long. FCD has been watching lots of videos of slot car stuff - guess what his next project will be?? Once we clear all the boat stuff out, a big chunk of floor will be freed. I guess it’s a better idea than a pool table - getting one down there and set up might well cost more than a used table.

I’ve decided against going out for lunch - mainly because the meal would likely use my daily caloric allotment and much as I love fried fish, it just ain’t worth it. But maybe I’ll grill some tuna steaks for supper. Yum!!

a dreary rainy day in philly. really ick. i had to leap a large puddle getting off the shuttle. the pavements and streets do need a good washing.

Wind advisory in no. Illinois. 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Would be a good day for staying home but I have a book ready at the library and should go to the gym. Maybe just the liberry.

Have you ever considered applying for a handicapped parking placard for FCD’s bad days?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and houseirk. I slept an extra hour this morning, so I’ll get a later start.

I pulled some vegetarian pintos from the freezer for this evening and will take out a corn muffin and some turnip greens to go with for supper.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning all and it has been a somewhat interesting one. Rained last night but it’s blue skies all around and about 60F so a nice morning. Did my Kroger shopping first thing, but had a little problem; they had advertised 12-packs of Soda as “Buy 3, get 3 Free” so I wanted to take advantage of that as my stockpile of Pepsi Zero and Diet Pepsi was low, but I always check the 'Best by" date and these were all ‘3Mar26’. Now I consume a considerable amount of soda, but drinking 72 cans in what amounts to 11 days is beyond even my capabilities. I suspect they realized that they had a lot of stock with time running out and offered a deal to try and move it. Ended up going to another Kroger, the Pepsi Zero has a 6Jun26 expiration and I added (thanks to FCM mentioning it) Some A&W Zero Root Beer instead of Diet Pepsi. So I should be good well into March.

Got home, put stuff away, made sammiches and got ready to internet, when I heard the trash truck outside. So decided to go out before I got started talking to all y’all and bring it back in. Walked out of the garage and looked at the curb spot where I always put it…and the bin wasn’t there! A few seconds of consternation, then I spotted it about 25 feet down the street from where I had put it. Don’t know what happened, but it was something different.

So after the morning doings, hopefully the afternoon will be quieter, will do some more gym time and get stuff ready for Soccer tomorrow and Sunday (a lot of folks have gone to a convention up in Nashville, so I suspect I’ll be busier than usual this weekend).

Now to see what everyone else has been up to…scrolling mode activate!

boo fae, glad Keith is back home and ready to take you on more adventures. And I loved my time in London, using the Underground to get all over the city was a great time for me, and the trains/buses to/from Southampton and Portsmouth were great. And best wishes in getting your minion the stuff they need in spite of bureau-crazy.

FCM, actually thinking things out and planning ahead…how quaint… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Knots, bests wishes on the evaluation. Take care.

Taters, sounds like you’re not the only one leaving the sinking ship. Enjoy dinner with Son.

Yanker, sounds like you and Knots have similar weather. No wind to speak of around here right now (tornado season is coming, however…).

And time to…do nothing much, to be honest. Need to decide on Sunday’s meal, I leave one Sunday every 2 months to my whims. Right now, 5 Guys, Red Robin, CHili’s and Krispy Kreme are still in the running. Decisions, decisions…

Take care all.

“It’s only two cars today” they said. Which sounds good till each one is 250+ pieces, and most of the boxes are 50lbs or more. I’m a pooped puppy. But Spot has been gotten his goatee grooming, laundry is swishing, and oatmeal(mangos and spicy blend mix) are being consumed.

Screaming or non screaming?

I’d pick something closer.

I forgot what it’s like to have have a dog that would go out in the rain without kicking and screaming.

Good luck on the evaluation.

Roomie has one. Mainly I use it to take people to bars.
