(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

I heard that Amelia Earhart said it… and I think she was the only one. So I say it.

Let’s just say that the mayhem guys are on my sh!t list right now.

Hugs and good vibes for you and VBC…

Well, they’re finally going to begin work on my car at ~twice the deductible out of pocket. The bastiges realllllly wanted to put junkyard parts on the car and send me to a shop that wasn’t even certified (and wouldn’t do, to their credit) to do all of the work. Come policy renewal time, I’ll be looking hard at changing insurance companies.

I’m looking forward to getting the grey ghost back. I miss my heated seats.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Summarized, with probably stuff I’ll forget - the county said they wouldn’t renew the school’s lease. The corporate board replaced the board of directors. They decided to close the school. They decided to reopen the school. Several teachers quit. Daughter’s role was redefined to something she was no longer qualified or interested in doing so the board laid her off (so she could get unemployment) and I honestly don’t know what’s happening there now.

So Daughter has been applying all over the place, and just today, she met with someone and got info about some sources she didn’t know about. She’s been trying to decide what direction to follow. She doesn’t want to teach and she’s not sure she wants to stay in an educational field. She needs to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up…

I’m thinking tomorrow morning I’ll put in some time in the basement, then when it warms up a bit, I’ll do more raking. Or not. we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Howdy Y’all! Sloth, general overall uselessness, day drinkin’ and nappage did indeed rule the day. OK, I did make tuna sallit for the tuna sallit sammiches we shall take to the church house tomorrow for soup 'n sammich, so that was productive. Also, sup got made and et. OYKW cleanded up the kitchen,

I went back and looked. I don’t know how I missed it earlier! HEE! Just my kinda dad joke!

BooFae enjoy the travels.

Taters glad y’all had a good time visitin’ daughter and sil. Hope the pups were not too traumatized.

WetOne Buc-ees is worth seein’. Once. I’ll be fine if I never see another.

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan, watching hockey, and Spot is finally snoozing.

I ain’t figured that one out and I’m 53…

I’m thinking yeah.

N.C. State plays Thursday. :wolf:

The one thing I don’t miss about the pharmacy biz is explaining to sick, desperate people that the insurance denied their claim because the CEO needs to beat Wall Street earning guidance.

.

I think I almost just got scammed but I’m not entirely sure. If my TeeVee cuts out in the next few days I guess I’ll know. Here’s the thing … when I moved out here it was all kind of whirlwind and I don’t really remember how I set things up. I’m pretty sure I have a bundled phone and internet dealio that I autopay via Verizon. But then I know I have an Xfinity router so …

I just got a call that didn’t sound all that professional, asking for me personally. When I asked who it was they said it was Xfinity and that my bill was past due. Now, I do have a new debit card so I was just about to give it to them before I decided I wasn’t comfortable doing it over the phone. She said, that’s fine, and hung up rather quickly. In the meantime, I cannot find an individual XFinity account for myself anywhere that isn’t my cancelled account back in Maine - in fact, it looks like they owe me fifteen bucks.

I’m baffled.

That must have hurt your heart.

I know that the pharmacists don’t have control over the insurance companies and don’t berate them over it. I knew that I was going to have to self-pay and knew who to blame for this.

However, when he told me the price, I was shocked so blurted out that last time it was around $40 and that is when he was magically able to lower the price by 20 bucks. I found that awfully suspicious.

Now that is a hopeful sign. I hope the new sources are helpful.

Around the time I turned 40, I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be comfortably retired and now here I am!

VBC has woken up, eaten and then snuggled into the warm towels (ain’t nobody spoils their cats better than me!). Her breathing has quieted considerably and the vet is hoping that the gurgling sound we do hear is just residual sedation and a little bleeding. I am hoping that tomorrow will prove her right.

Now that we know that VBC will be OK for us to be gone, hubs wants to leave on Friday. He will be carrying a gun  and I’ll be bringing weed  so of course we have to drive. I adore this drive watching the landscape and plants change over the miles is fascinating IMHO.

We have plans to look at seven homes so far but budgeted time to see a few more or just chill in the area of the place we like the best for a day. His family is thrilled to be able to see us again and are planning a get-together where I will be reminded once again why I don’t like to eat their cooking. EVERYTHING is cooked to mush and sweet. They put sugar in their cornbread, heck, they put sugar in the water they boil cobs of corn to mush in.

I am not a churl, I will smile and thank them and find something to compliment, even if it just the embroidered placemats. They feed us because they love us. I could do that for two weeks a year when his folks were alive, I’m even better at finding nice things to say about badly cooked food now.

(Well, I guess I could buy more weed when I get there and hubs has successfully and legally taken guns on planes…but ya can’t see the scenery when you are flying over it.)

TC friend and I almost got into an argument over money today, she pet-sits as a side gig and wants to charge us 40 bucks for two weeks of feeding and scooping. That is just insane and I’m not going to do that. She also has cats and has complained about buying heavy bags of cat litter and bringing them home, so I think she will get her measly 40 bucks and a Chewy delivery of cat litter right to her front door.

Evening all. Pedaling while not moving was accomplished at the gym along with sauna time and much sweating occurred. Soccer went from 5-7pm, temperatures dropped about 15F in that time, but chasing 20 girls around the fields kept me warm-ish. Have Mac-n-Cheesed for the nightly repast and am now looking forward to sloth and internetting for the balance of the evening.

Taters, happy the kids could visit, and yeah, Missouri in the summertime, especially if you’re close to the rivers, can be sweat-inducing. Hope the pups adjusted to the time with other dogs well.

FCM, I have a whole cupboard full of extension cords and various USB and other cables that I tell myself I am going to sort and dispose of one of these days, but out of sight/out of mind so they just sit there. Hope the sorting and organizing went better than expected.

Cat Glove, sounds like interesting times (as the probably fictional Chinese curse goes). Hang in there and enjoy the B-Ball.

wet one, got a Buc-ee’s about 12 miles down the road from me, it’s interesting but only if I have another reason to be out that way. They are worth seeing, especially the very clean bathrooms.

red, right now I have the Gecko people insuring my car, haven’t had a claim recently so hoping I don’t have to find out if they are efficient or not.

J-Bats, googled it and you might want to read this piece and see if it bears any resemblance to what you went through…Beware: Unveiling the Latest Xfinity Scams of 2024 - PureVPN Blog

JtC, pharmacies and prescriptions and insurance can be a major pain, I don’t have any at this time (keeps fingers firmly crossed) but know that my brother and Sis-in-Law both take a lot and I shudder to think what they must be paying for it.

Trust that someone will be watching GG and VBC while you are doing the cross-country travel. And do not know the normal budget for 2 weeks of cat-sitting, but IMHO $40 for that much time isn’t a bad deal at all.

And that’s all , folks. Catch up with you on Hump Day.

Thanks for that link - it does indeed seem like I dodged a bullet. I mean, I had my card out and the keyboard open on my phone before I got the Spidey tingle. They way they came on the phone out of the gate was very garbled and unprofessional. I literally had to ask who it was. But, I see that Xfinity will never call me unsolicited asking for personal information (according to that link) so I’m glad I’m as cynical as I am.

You may or may not recall that in April a young kid ran a stop sign and played bumper cars with my car. State Farm was absolutely freaking wonderful. They called me and gave me the name of a certified repair shop and even though I have a deductible and we’re in a no fault state, I never had to pay a dime. The repairs were in excess of 4 grand and were well done by the repair shop.

FCM So sorry to hear about the cluster that the school and daughter’s position became. Sending good thoughts and a prayer that something better comes along. As Maria said that the Reverend Mother said: “when the Lord closes a door, somewhere he opens a window”

As I mentioned earlier, we ordered steak fajitas for dinner. When I got to the restaurant and looked at the ticket on the bag, it said Shrimp Fajitas. It’s been that kind of day.

Hubs asked for scrambled egg and tortilla for dinner instead of his broth. So, his pain from diverticulitis has moderated.

One other thing I did earlier was to walk Bella. It was good to get out in the fresh air even though it was extremely windy. As to March Madness : have watched the first game; the Wagner Seahawks beat Howard 71-68. Next up Virginia Cavaliers vs Colorado State Rams. I’m rooting the UV as niece went there and I like their coach. Although BFF’s daughter went to Colorado St. Oh well, as the saying goes: blood is thicker than water.

How do you think they’ll do against Texas Tech. TT ate our lunch when we played them in the Final Four in 2019. Totally different team now and different coach.

JtC I am paying $100 for 6 days of Ursala Kitteh care. $40 is much too cheap. Maybe litter AND fuds for friend’s kitties in addition to the $40.

Thank you! I knew it wasn’t enough but I didn’t know the going rates because we haven’t been back there since 2017. I’m the one who’s been out and about, hubs has no interest in going to needlepoint seminars.

Gooshy fuds will be added to the shipment.

That is such great news, I am so happy for both of you.

I’m also happy that you and Bella got out for some fresh air. That can be such a game changer at times.

That is us as well. I assumed that hubs had dealt with them but learned that he had moved an entire file cabinet drawer full of assorted cables and such during our last move. That isn’t going to happen with this move.

I’m also going to convince him to sell some of his guns here so we don’t have to cross state lines with them. The moving companies won’t ship guns without a large extra fee, he can’t shoot them anymore and we have a trusted gunsmith who will sell them on consignment. If he doesn’t sell them now, I will end up selling them for much less than they are worth after he’s dead and I know he doesn’t like it when someone takes advantage of me.

50/50. We were struggling all year, but they just went on a run in the ACC Tournamnet

So, after much discussion, this place is first on our list.

The carpet will of course need to be replaced, the master bathroom will need to be redone and a water purification system will need to be installed but the kitchen is amazing.

And the view. And the trees. And the river in walking distance. I would be very happy here.

OTOH, there is a well and we have never had such a thing before. It is bigger than our current place and stuff expands to fill any given area. One of the sheds is the tank house/storage area and the other was in the process of being improved for reasons only the owner knows but can still be filled with stuff so there is even more expansion room there. Le sigh.

I have often heard stories of people leaving a terrible oppressive, potentially harmful job, then they end their tale with how they found a new job very quickly, it suits them way better, and it pays more. That’s never happened to me.

Until today…?

Well, too early to say if it’s going to be a good working experience yet, but I got a call yesterday for an interview, had the interview today, then twenty minutes after it concluded they offered me the job, for $15k more than my previous.

Only drawback is the commute, but if it’s a good place to work, I’ll probably move to somewhere closer by.

OMG, HURRAY!!! I really hope you like it and that they like your work. Less stress and more money, oh yea, jump right on that!!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 72 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and then spend time in sloth until it’s time to head over to the church house for the last Wednesday night soup 'n sammich and book study. I also shall make tuna sallit sammiches to take. Thus it shall be in swampland this day.

JtC that looks like a nice place. The wraparound deck looks pretty cool. The Federal Prison Camp for Women in Alderson, WV is where Martha Stewart vacationed for about six months in 2004-2005.

BatBoy conga rats! Hope it works out for ya.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe and despair!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 13c/55f, and cloudy. Weather app is unimpressed and tell me that “I’m completely fucking apathetic with the merely fucking so-so day.” It’s not that bad, at least it’s not heaving down out there.

Continuing the long-running pay/T&C dispute with my employer, my union has called three strike days so I am on strike today, and I’ve swapped my holiday days for Thursday and Friday to strike days. The strike fund will repay lost wages, and I get two holiday days back to use later. Winner all round today!

I was up early to do feline bums and tums, had a couple of mugs of tea then went out to do some essential errands. I had four things on my list, did five, but technically seven because I did one in three different places  Confusing, innit?

So far I have been to the pet store for a couple of 30L bags of cat litter, went to the bank to pay a cheque in, went to the optician to get my glasses tightened up, and went to get some new jeans. Then I remembered 'im indoors grumbling that he couldn’t get cheap Ibuprofen tablets at the supermarket on Tuesday night (why pay over £3 when you can get them for 45p a pack?) so I went to three different pharmacies to buy them. Since Ibuprofen is a suicide pill, we’re only allowed to buy a maximum of 32 tablets (2x16) in any one location. Thus I obtained two 16-pill packs in three different shops. I feel quite rebellious now!

I have ironing to do, then I need to write my packing list and start assembling stuff into packing cubes. My reward for all this is curry and beer tonight with a friend.

J-Bats conga-rats to you! I hope it’s as good as you hope!

JtC that looks like a nice house but that carpet is awful  What are the vents in the floor? Are they for heating? Never seen a house with those before.

Yeah, but girls mature faster than boys! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, Daughter really wants to be a SAHM but SIL doesn’t make enough for that to happen. But she’ll figure something out. I just hope it’s sooner rather than later, especially since I’m on her mortgage as a responsible party… :open_mouth:

Oh yeah, there’s the bin full of miscellaneous cables in FCD’s shop and the random chargers that surface occasionally. If they ain’t USB-C, we can’t use them. And, of course, power strips. I could hook them all together and create a major fire hazard in no time!!

You’ll want to talk to a local well-drilling company to get educated. I can tell you that when we had to have a new well drilled about 15 or so years ago, it was about $8K. A couple of years back, the local plumber recommended we replace our tank, and that was (I think) something over $2K. We haven’t had it done and so far no problem. Anyway, I guess what I’m saying is when it works, it’s great, but when it dies, it’s inconvenient and $$$. My mom has been in her place over 40 years, and I don’t think she’s had to have a new well drilled, tho they may have had to replace the pump. FWIW…

The day began in the low 30s. When I get in gear and shower and dress, I’ll take myself to the basement and start organizing. FCD plans to work in his shop, so I guess his mom will be upstairs unsupervised. I’ll try to get her to use Alexa to call me if she needs me - the “drop-in” function is easy enough to use, but she’s never done it so we shall see.

It’s supposed to warm to mid-50s this afternoon, and with luck, I can get a couple of hours of raking in. I think I’ll pull a meatloaf out of the freezer for supper. Unless I see something else that appeals. Thus beginneth my day.

Happy First Day of Spring!!

Its snowing here right now. Its to end by afternoon and get high windy.
Trying not to worry about my test results.
