(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

that looks like a nice house. the carpet is a bit scary. think of all the riparian entertainment you and gg can have.

Morning all. Up at 5:15am to micturate and then ended up sleeping to 8:15am. Need to go to the library this morning to start putting soccer teams together, I find I am much less distracted there than when I try to do it at home. Swimming is planned for the afternoon and need to put the garbage and recyclables out to the curb tonight. Otherwise not much planned here at Casa Rat. It’s 50F and supposed to get to 71F today with no rain in the forecast, so that should make for a pleasant day.

JtC, house looks lovely, hope it looks like that in real life, and having someone inspect the well before purchase, as FCM suggests seems like a good idea.

Bat Boy, I hope the job works out well for you, sounds like a real opportunity.

boo fae, sometimes time off can work out in your favor; not often, lest the Demon Murphy becomes aware of it, but sometimes.

Alrighty then, need to break fast and then dress for the library and head on out to do my planning. Have a good Hump Day all.

I heaved. Spot and I both had dry, flavorless bits for breakfast. Naptime!

fingers crossed.

I also like it.

Did you make little posters for the cats, so you could have a proper at home picket line?

You can get 1000 pill jugs here in The States. But real Sudafed is 3.6 grams a day, and codine is a controlled substance.

After alarm went off at 6am, I only stayed in bed looking at Instagram for 15 minutes because I needed to quickly hop in the shower and get dressed so I could get to the oil change shop. I had told former neighbor I’d be there at 7:30 and arrived at 7:38 so on time in my mind. He said it would take about an hour. I said no prob as I had promised our daughter a treat since she would be making Hubs breakfast and giving him his morning pills. So, I walked 2 blocks down to the mid-eastern bakery. The sign says they open at 7:30; it was 7:45 and it was locked up tighter than a drum. I was able to get someone’s attention and she came and unlocked the door for me. This is the bakery that makes the heavenly croissants that I wrote about back in September. I asked if croissants were available and when the clerk checked in the back, she said they were in the process and would be ready in an hour. No problem, I had an hour to kill before car would be ready. So, I sat at a table on the other side of the bakery near the window watching the world go by and saying a rosary for peace and freedom in the Holy Land (Gaza, West Bank, Israel) and in Ukraine. After 55 minutes, I heard the word croissant so I figured that they were ready. The entire time I was there no other customers came in the bakery and the only words I heard other than croissant were not English, probably Arabic. So then I remembered it’s Ramadan.
When I had ordered I asked for 1 cheese, 2 thyme and yes Shoe 2 chocolate. The clerk responded that 5 cost $10 and 6 cost $10 so did I want one more. I increased the chocolate croissant order to 3. They put them into a box and didn’t wrap them individually because they had just come out of the oven.

As I was walking back to the oil change shop, my purse started vibrating something fierce. I figured it was my former neighbor calling to say the car was ready and I was right. So I drove home and daughter and I feasted. Hubs didn’t want one. His pills for the diverticulitis are making him very lethargic. He called his PCP this morning and asked how much longer he has to take them. Response: until they’re gone. I could have told him that; they’re antibiotics and as everyone should know, you finish the course of treatment or you risk infection coming back more virulent.

In case anyone is wondering UVA couldn’t hit the side of a barn with the basketball last night. At halftime they only had 14 points. They did a little, emphasize little, better in the 2nd half as their final tally was 42 points, still 28 points in a half is middling fair. Colorado State had 67 so they move on to play Texas on Thursday.

I need to call the storage unit office to ensure the manager is in before I drive there then the usual tasks of washing dishes, doing laundry, attending to Hubs will take place. Also need to do some swiffering, vaccuming, dusting.

JtC looks like a nice home, pending in person inspection. Hubs sister, the one we like, lives in Roanoke and we go within a respectable distance when we visit her. So, maybe there’s a chance of a meetup in the future. Also, I’ve been to Pipestem for a hiking conference; WV is a very beautiful state.

TaTa for now.

Busy morning. It started with cleaning up a pile of cat vomit in the living room. Then there were a lot of emails in my inbox. Most of those were responses to a notice that three employees had medical issues (1 released from the ER, 1 in hospital for low blood pressure (we’re not exciting enough), and 1 who had successful surgery). First I’d heard about any of them being out. Anyway, those were quickly read and deleted. Then fixing balances on a file that the member discovered were in error. (They fixed the issue for next time.) Then some other stuff, and then a meeting that lasted an hour and a quarter.

It’s a quarter 'til noon, and I still haven’t had a chance to get back to the program I started writing Monday. And I now have other things to take care of before I can.

HI all, mid afternoon on Wed and I’m still in my PJs. Yaay for retirement!

Yesterday was a bit somber for me, despite my various diversions and recreations. It would have been our 36th wedding anniversary had she lived.

That evening roomie and I had a nice steak & wine dinner out. Not wretchedly excessive in opulence nor in quantity, just nice. Got home and I went to bed at about the normal time ~10pm. Then slept 12 hours! Must have needed it. Funny that despite living together for 7 weeks now this is the first time it was just us two for dinner. Very pleasant. He’s a great guy and we make a great pair.

Big news of my day today was that I approved our counteroffer to HL’s settlement offer. Which goes on the wire to her atty later today. So we ought to get to signatures in a week-ish. Then the attys request a zoom hearing w the court, I write a check, and we’re done. Late April worst case if nothing goes wrong, and most of that time is simply working through the court backlog until it’s our turn.

Outside it’s sunny and NWS says we’re at the high of 77/25 for the day. If I’m gonna beach again today I ought to get ass in gear. Not sure what other recreations there might be.

As to y’all’s 20+ posts …

Yaay! Despite the inevitable annoyances.

I finally did: I wanna be retired.

But I was 60 with 5 years left before I came to that realization. I still don’t know what occupation I wanted back then.

So you were 20 years smarter than I was. Good on ya!

I don’t have personal experience, but BBBoo swears by GoodRx as a way to get meds cheaper for seemingly no reason. And she’s certainly in a strong position to know both meds and the need to get them cheap. Professionally and personally.

Snazzy house. Looks like the house, lot, and immediate environs fill all your checkboxes to overflowing. Hooray! Only you can assess the region and the people.

That dining area off the kitchen is big enough that with no dining table in there you can probably set up a complete cheese-making apparatus and a complete beer brewing facility and still have room to walk around. All without mucking up the pristine kitchen for regular cooking.

I know nothing of wells, but often wells go along with septic systems. Which are another gizmo with very expensive costs to repair if not properly maintained. If that house (or any other) does have septic, some pre-buy inspection for it and some pre-buy education for you will also pay dividends.

The last comment I’d have is that the amount and quality of insulation, quality and R-values of doors and windows, and quality, condition, and efficiency of HVAC systems can vary wildly. Getting a year’s worth of their electricity and gas/propane bills ahead of time would be another way to reduce unhappy surprises. As well as knowing how old that stuff is and how well-maintained.

I know you know this, but IMO it bears repeating …

For darn sure do not let the fact it’s more SF lead to you moving known crap to get rid of “later” rather than culling heavily first while still there in AZ where you have deserving friends to gift to and known places to readily and appropriately donate stuff.

Moving isn’t cheap even if you DIY a lot of it. And the only thing dumber than owning excess garage-saleworthy stuff is owning excess garage-saleworthy stuff you just paid an extra $10/lb to still own. BTDT. More than once. I’m a slow learner. :man_facepalming: :woman_facepalming:.

No sensible corporation will do that to a customer.

Any such request purportedly on behalf of any business is a scam, period. No need to consider the fine points. Just: “I answered my phone and they want money-related info = scam”.

Same if they leave voicemail and you call them at the number they left. If you do need to call one of your vendors, look up a customer service number online or on a piece of paper they snail-mailed you. NEVER trust any contact info you get via phone, voicemail, text, or email.

Simple to say; can be hard to remember to do. They of course count on giving you the the bum’s rush so you don’t have time to slow down and think.

So decide now while you’re not rushed to never give info on a phone call. It’s much easier to remember to do the right thing on the spur of the moment than it is to decide what the right thing is on the spur of the moment. Decide now; do then. Much more likely to have a happy ending that way.

Good advice for all of us, me fully included. I’m naturally pretty trusting, and of course trusting people are the ones most likely to be taken to the cleaners by the scammy bastards.

Hooray!!! But …

If they’re in that big a hurry, either they’re desperate or the job is shite. In either case, now’s the time to push for a bit more something, whether it’s wages, a commuter expense allowance, assurances of WFH if the nature of the job permits that, etc. You know what extras work best for you.

The very best time to be greedy is with a job offer in hand. You may be able to get the next 3 years worth of what would otherwise be future raises right now just for asking.

You drug fiend!

Yaay!

Boy does that remind me of nearly every workday when I was in the IT business.

At least half of each day was spend dealing with yesterday’s fresh crises, with only a small bit of today left to actually advance my/our agenda. Which agenda was mostly about making improvements that would reduce the frequency of crises. Sisyphus would be proud of how often that rock rolled over us on its way back down the damned hill.

On that note Imma gonna get butt in gear. Damn near 3pm & breakfast is not yet eaten.

Cheers all!!

Exercised and all that happy crap. Maintenance came and replaced the flapper in the small bathroom toilet. A plumber comes tomorrow to replace the wax ring in the other bathroom. So glad I don’t have to mess with these things, nor pay for them (other than rent cost).

My eldest and his family are in SD seeing the sights. I hope he’s heading back home soon, as there is a nasty weather system rolling this way on Thursday. Gave him a heads up on FB. Sunny and 20F right now, but that’s gonna change rapidly.

In keeping with the MMP tradition of intentionally misspelling words, you might have said exorcised.

Be gone, Damon!

San Diego? South Dakota?

It’s a good thing I called before going to the Storage Unit office because the manager wasn’t in again. Drat.

Took Bella for a walk through the neighborhood; 33 degrees with a strong northwesterly wind but we were both appropriately dressed so I wasn’t cold at all and the wind wasn’t too cold on the face although it did cause a few tears out of my left eye. A Grandma and her approximately 4 yr old granddaughter came upon us while Bella was sniffing a particular patch of grass on a boulevard. She asked “Can we have your dog?” I thought I must have misheard her and asked her to repeat her request and yep, I didn’t mishear. I took it as they thought Bella was very cute and a great dog to have so I said “would she like to pet Bella?” and Grandma said “oh could she?” So, the young lady tentatively came forward and wasn’t quite sure about reaching out her hand. Bella understood and was patient. Finally she touched Bella’s head then stroked it twice and giggled. Sweet. When we were about 2 blocks from home, we came upon a lady with a small dog who looked back and saw Bella and then wasn’t going to move until they met. Little dog’s name was Cora and they made friends, sniffed each other and then we went on our way.

Heated up some chicken noodle soup for Hubs and cut his toenails. Washed a ton of dishes, got the darks ready to launder but first set some things to presoak. I need to go down and get the wash started so I’ll catch up with you later. Ciao.

I finally found out about my check.
Boss says I started in the middle of a pay period, so I should get the check next Friday, along with the one I will get for my hours ( 6 so far) this pay period.
Going to my NP for my physical tomorrow, lots of questions.
I hope she’ll order more blood work.
Why is my hair falling out, are my kidneys ok? I know my cervix isn’t.
Made 2 and a half servings of spagetti, intending to put the rest in the fridge. I like it cold.
But I ate the whole thing.
Supposed to be 30 for a high tomorrow.

I never think of a two-letter designation as being anything other than a state. Well, L.A. perhaps, but only with the periods.

He may have anticipated the situation and already had something like GoodRX pulled up. CVS did that for me when one of my meds was outrageous even with insurance.

When you meander through Tennessee, give metal mouse, fishy and me a holler to see about a mini-mumpfest.

Yep…that 's what I was paying 25 years ago when I last had cats.

I’ve had them on and off over the years, but never had a claim with them.

Appendages crossed on the new gig bat boy.

Irked, did my daily pestering of the insurance adjuster and the dealership, walked Nelson and tortured him with a chainsaw trimmed his nails. No word yet on when I’ll have the car back, but at least the parts are ordered.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My uselessly lazy day continues. It’s just hitting 8pm, the sun is just down, and I’m still in my PJs (track suit actually) from morning. Never did get sheveled. Ate half of my leftovers from yesterday’s picnic at 4pm as my first meal and will probably finish the rest of them before bed as my final meal.

Currently enjoying a stogie and a beer or two outside by the pool. NWS says 72/22 on the way down to 66/19. Will need to go inside or add a sweatshirt in another half hour or so.

Roomie is just back from cocktails with one of his pals, and I’m txt-yakking with another friend who’s having a trying few days.

Earlier today I told roomie abut my general plans to find an apartment in the next two-ish months and he reiterated he’s happy to share the house and all his toys and stuff w me UFN. I have better friends than I deserve.

Now I just need to add a truly suitable friend of the womanly persuasion and all will be right in my world. Or maybe several for my/their different interests. I can be hard to keep up with.

Cheers!

Overheard statements yesterday:

“You’re ascribing theology to classical music.”

“Trains are orchestras of a different sort… It’s symbolical… of beauty.”

“I’m like, if you’re such a genius, why aren’t you in Mensa?”

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and stowed ‘em. Then nappage occured, Then sammiches got made up and hauled over to the church house where they were snarfed down along with some good chikin noodle soup and some pumpkin soup. The book discussion was lively tonight. Kinda sad to see it end as it has been a good five week discussion group. I feel the need for sleepy time comin’ on.

‘We could have two midgets roasting a nun over an open fire.’ Overheard at Kelbo’s, presumably between a couple of guys planning a music video in the late-'80s/early-'90s.

I wish I could overhear something funny.

I often wonder if the anecdotes in Reader’s Digest were all made up.

I feel some are.
