(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

Made egg noodles with chicken and cheese sauce. Spot was not interested in the chicken.

Spot has his second ever hairball this morning. On the couch. :grimacing:

Sounds good. I did a martini, while looking at the pool(it was 60 degrees here)

Evening all. Trying to divide 50 girls into 10 groups of reasonably even skill levels while also trying to meet parents coaching requests and practice days is…challenging. Kept me occupied until the middle of the afternoon, when I sent it out to the U9 folks to add their players to it. Then had some dinner and went over to the soccer fields where the 12U girls were doing pre-season practicing and got some pre-season refereeing in, taking time to explain some of my calls (offside can be confusing…) and in general moving pretty well for a 71 year old. Then went off to the gym and got 1,000 yards of late-night backstroking done, so it was a pretty active evening. Garbage and Recyclables are at the curb, which of course means that the collections won’t happen until about 1pm, but at least I don;t have to worry about them.

Only 19 new messages to wade through, so…

Cat Glove, hot out of the oven croissants and an oil change…I’d call that a successful morning.

I can understand that feeling, I’ve been a train geek since I was 4 and the mainline of the Erie Railroad ran next to my Grandma’s house.

Nearly 10:30pm now so bedtime beckons. Will catch up (I hope) with y’all on Thorsday.

Pilot, a melancholy {{hug}} for a loss that you still feel. And about once every four-five weeks or so I’ll do the 10-12 hour sleep-in. And while it’s not the greatest of things, at least the breaking apart is about a civil as it could get.

I’ll bet it looks fabulous!!!

I totally love/hate that woman, she makes clever look easy.

Yes they are for the HVAC system. Our current home has the vents in the ceiling because heat rises and cold drops. Most of the time we are cooling our home, so that is more efficient. It will be colder in WV, so will be using the heat more than the AC and it is more energy efficient for the heat to rise through the living area before being trapped by the ceiling.

I had no idea! We use it for our aches and pains and buy it in 250 tablet bottles. How many do you have to take to OD, I usually only take two, but sometimes I will take three. How many does it take to die? Don’t need answer fast.

I’m sad for her. Some women just love that sort of life, it’s a shame they can’t have it in this world.

That is on the list. BFF and her hubs had a well dug on their property, but desert wells are probably a little different than the wells where it rains on a regular basis.

OMG, that is why I fell in love with the place. MIL used to have bird feeders and we spent many happy afternoons sitting on the porch and watching the birds, what a colorful variety!

If we do buy, the carpet will be replaced before we move in. I would rather not have carpet, they are impossible to keep clean enough to suit me, but hubs thinks we will want carpet because our laminate floors are almost always cold. This isn’t my hill to die on, I rarely walk around barefoot anyhow.

We are also hoping we won’t walk in and turn around and walk right back out. Happily WV law requires the seller to provide a recent (within 6 months) septic and well inspection. I was really scared of having a well at first, but BFF says that they really are very low maintenance so I’m starting to feel a little better about it.

!!!

I’m glad you were able to get so much accomplished this morning. I don’t remember if you are in a MMJ friendly state, but I’ve been told that many folks use it to settle their stomachs when undergoing cancer treatment.

That would be lovely, and you are right, WV is truly beautiful. Even if all we do is look at 6 or 8 places and shake our heads and come home, the trip will be worth it. Plus, it won’t hurt Hubs to visit his family for a few days. They always seem so happy to see us and several of the womenfolk have actual quilting frames that they enjoy working on as a mini-quilting bee and they always have a seat for me.

The good thing about waking up to a pile of cat puke is knowing that the day can’t get much worse.

:people_hugging:

To be a lovely stitching area, did you see all of the windows!!!

This isn’t going to be the only place we look at, but one of the things we have to have is three bedrooms. We can share a computer room, but we have to have a separate fermenting room.

We’ve had septic all of our married lives so I’m hoping that mountain septic systems work the same as desert ones. Of course that is on my list of things to ask his family.

As to insulation, if we see single paned windows, we won’t even walk in the door. Way back when we had our first trailer, we couldn’t keep cans or bottles in the cabinets on the east kitchen wall because they would get so hot they would start leaking. We are all about good insulation!!!

Oh, no, we do not do that. We are ruthless about culling our belongings before moving. (Hubs brought up selling a few guns without me even saying anything.) (WHOHOO) When we are moved in, we admire our clean and uncluttered home. Then we fucking fill it up with stuff again. That is why I don’t want more SF and I’m not thrilled about having two big sheds again either.

The second place on our list got there because it only had one little riding lawnmower shed and is smaller than our current place.

How is your feline overlord feeling today? I hope she is more herself.

You are kinder than me. I already knew that they don’t participate with GoodRX or other discount plans so that’s not what happened. They are a small, independently own pharmacy that just happens to be the only on in about 30 miles so they take advantage of it. I probably wouldn’t have bought it there at all but the meds we tried were horrible and I didn’t feel like driving to town. It’s what we call a convenience tax, but you could also call it a lazy tax.

The chance that hubs will be willing to take the time are very low, but if we do move, I fully intend to explore that part of the country and meeting Nelson is on my list of things to do!

Yeah, I looked up what pros charge out here and she’s going to get several shipments of litter and fud. She is a friend, I refuse to take advantage of her. She still works for a living, making the time to come over twice a day is a lot to ask from a family member, much less from a friend. Plus, we will probably need her again so I want to be sure she wants to do it.

Every so often, I wake up and decree it to be a pajama day. We are retired, ain’t nothing wrong with that!

As to here, VBC is feeling better, but not willing to cuddle with GG. It is so sad, he has a certain chirp and neck baring pose he uses when he wants to cuddle and groom and it hasn’t worked since she’s come home from the vet. He doesn’t understand what he did to make her so mad and he’s really sorry! She did share her warm towels with him today, so it’s not like they broke up, she just has a headache.

I went to surplus this morning and warned my passengers that I wouldn’t be in state for a couple of weeks but would text them when I was back. One of them said that by then it would be warm enough to walk and the one who seemed to enjoy not walking said she would probably not walk as long as I was willing to pick her up.

Now I feel guilty about potentially moving away and making them walk all the time.

We got a whole bunch of chopped purple cabbage along with BIG carrots, potatoes, green apples, a dozen individual bags of flaming hot Cheetos (baked so they were healthy!), bananas, a pound of generic pork sausage and a container of feta cheese.

I made up a bag for Chicken Guy and then realized that if we move, his chickens will go back to their inferior nothing but commercial chicken scratch diet. More guilt.

NF won’t be able to come to Tai Chi for a few weeks and we needed to firm up our travel plans so we wanted to meet up at our favorite coffee place in the afternoon. The doors were locked! We were confused! We were worried that something bad had happened! Then we realized that we were those people who can’t read the sign showing the hours of operation. Now we were embarrassed people!

We got the last minute things sorted and of course some of my plans had changed because of our trip to WV, but hubs knows that being back here by the 4th is mandatory. (I’m going to need time to do laundry and rest.)

NF took what she wanted out of my surplus box, then sighed and took half a dozen of the bags of flaming hot Cheetos because her husband just loved them. She’s not married to a 15 year old boy who outgrows his shoes every month, she’s old than me and her husband is older than her.

Guilt about depriving NF’s hubby of chips he loves but she won’t buy happened.

When I showed up at the library almost at closing time, the librarian was very happy to see me because not library users had learned that they would get free produce (we really do live in a food island out here where fresh produce is concerned) and their shelves were empty of that.

Not much guilt about that. If they can get to the library to get leftover surplus, they can get to the pick-up site the next block over and get their own box.

Howdy, can’t write much as there is a poodle between me and the iPad. And every time I try to type she licks my arm. :ick: Anyways, not sure how it took me until almost to midnight to say hello today. Hopefully I’ll be around sooner tomorrow.

I had to peek just to see.

Dear gawd.

I shouldn’t have laughed that hard. But I did.

That’s a shitty feeling. “Would’ve been” sucks.

My people!

Someone needs a bit of ointment for that burn?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 13c/55f with rain showers. Weather app says “Wear your fucking waterproof mascara today unless you want to look like a fucking emo raccoon.” Words to live by!

No, the little buggers would have set up a picket line in front of the kitchen, knowing they’re keeping me from my tea because I can’t cross the picket line!

Big hug for you, it’s a very sombre kind of thought.

I have no idea, and I’m not about to ask Dr Google for the answer  Aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen are pretty much the only OTC pain meds we can get, either separately or in combination (paracetamol and ibuprofen are the usual combo). Anything stronger (Co-Codamol etc) has to come via a GP’s prescription. I think the idea is that if you want to kill yourself using OTC pain meds, you’re going to have to work for it! I seem to recall hearing that it’s not pleasant either, a significant overdose won’t kill you outright but it will do enough organ damage to make it happen anyway.

Cookie Yay for effortless home repairs!

It’s been a busy morning here, I was up reasonably early so got sheveled, did feline bums and tums, had a call from the eye clinic as a follow-up on last week’s treatment, finished packing my toiletries after washing my hair, moved big bags of cat litter upstairs so the cat sitter doesn’t need to do that, and I’m having a cuppa while typing this.

Just got some cheese to pack that we’re bringing over for our Detroit hosts, then I need to make sure the litter trays are clear, the food and water bowls are topped up, the bins are emptied and we’ve cleared up the kitchen. I’m just about to go and make bacon butties, then we’ll be heading on our merry little way. Down to Heathrow for an overnight stay at T4, then on to T5 in the morning for check-in, some lounge-hopping, and an afternoon flight to Chicago. Woohoo!

Why must you taunt the Fates?? I thought you were smarter than that!!! :open_mouth:

I found this:

The maximum dose for self-treating with OTC ibuprofen is 1,200 mg per day. The maximum dose for ibuprofen with a prescription is higher and ranges from 1,200 mg to 3,200 mg per day.

I guess by extension, you can figure a lethal dose.

On the I-want-to-throttle-her front, I heard MIL get up and go to the bathroom this morning. She did make it back to bed without incident, which is bad, because it makes her think that she’ll not have problems… till she does. Having watched her unable to go more than 10’ before having to sit down, I know another fall is coming. grrrrrrrrrrr

On a happier note, Daughter has an interview this afternoon for an administrative position at a local private college. I’m assuming it’s a 12-month job since it’s not faculty. She said the pay isn’t great, but it does have bennies, and it’s a foot in the door. The commute is about 14 miles, mostly thru the boonies. So here’s hoping it’s a good match for not-too-terrible pay.

We’re not supposed to get warmer than about 50° today - I don’t foresee much, if any, outside work. So probably basement cleanage. But first, I need to dig thru the freezer for tonight’s supper. But before that, I must finish my morning computer time.

Happy Thursday!!

I would like a weather app like that.
Not raining here, below 32 most of the day.
Off for my physical, no I’m not okay.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 41 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 76 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I was a slugabed until seven-thirty this mornin’. :astonished: :sleeping_bed: No plans at all for the day other than sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. There are various leftovers that need to get et up, so that will be sup. I shall be most happy to stay in da cave today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 47 degrees Fahrenheit and wet outside. Our expected high temp is around 57 degrees Fahrenheit, with cloudy skies or rain showers throughout the day.

FCM, fingers crossed for your daughter. I hope it works out for her.

JtC, in the end, you have to do what works for you and your husband, whether or not that includes a move. I saw the pics of the place and agree that the carpet has to go. As for bare floors, you could install underlayments that make the floor warmer, and other are always area rugs. Or, wear slippers!

Yesterday was an in-office day, and it was nonstop. When I got home, I logged in and worked another couple of hours, too.

I think I’m coming down with a cold. I’ve had several sneezing fits in the last couple of days, and today, I woke up with a stuffy nose and watery eyes. I think I’ll have to fight it for a few days, and I hope I win.

Well, there isn’t much else going on. I will finish my coffee and run the dishwasher before logging into my work computer. Take care.

It appears someone is trying to hack my accounts. I got two notifications from FB with codes for changing my password (reported them both) and one this morning on my main email account. So I guess I need to update some passwords. Dammit.

Hackers suck slimy swampwater.

Good morning! Hugs to LsLguy, Coppertone, and FCM.

We have a busy day. MusicMan has his first official appointment at the VA. He’s already happier. I have an appointment an hour later somewhere else. He told me I can drop him off early for his appointment so he can hang out and talk to the guys.

My appointment is with the orthopedist who made my ankle brace for my left leg. It’s taken a looooong time to get in. I hope he has a good answer about what to do for my right leg which hurts, actually, worse than my left leg now that I’ve been wearing the brace. I am sorely tempted to write “OUCH!” On the bottom of my sock, but I’m not sure how much of my weird that I actually want to display.

Seems a bit better. She was off her feed for a couple of days, but I switched from her usual chicken to beef and she seems a bit happier with that. She didn’t barf the last couple of nights, which is good, and seems to be moving a bit better. Thanks for asking.

Woke up this morning from a dream wherein I was presented with a dinner bill at a restaurant for $27,000,000. When I told the manager that there was some sort of mistake, he got really huffy with me. It was turning into a confrontation when I woke up. Sheesh, where did that come from?

Going to a concert today, then some last minute shopping before the storm arrives. Eldest son and family are rushing back from their Badlands vacation to stay ahead of the front. It may turn out to be a big nothingburger, but better to play it safe.

I should say. Congrats dude; you are my hero.

Yep. I have no anger, no sense of loss. Just a feeling of a mistake rectified. It’s a shame the mistake was made, but even then I learned a bunch of useful stuff. On the one hand if we’d stayed just friends or even FWBs it would’ve been cheaper and there’d be no residual animosity on her part. On the other hand I would not have gained what knowledge I did gain. Which knowledge will stand me in good stead as I go looking farther afield for the next ones.

Some decent fraction of them can have it, but certainly not the vast majority as may have been the case in e.g. 1950. I also suspect that many of those who want to be a SAHM now don’t want the complete 1950s package of subordination. Which rightly or wrongly was part of the old contract.

I’m hubs with this one. Bare feet on cold floors is not quite as awful as an icewater shower, but close. Having lived at least partially on wood or tile floors for many years now I have learned to cope.

Runner(s) alongside the bed are a nice touch for middle of the night get-ups. The other thing is a supply of these: Amazon.com : Muezna Men’s Non-Slip Yoga Socks. They are very non-slip, sturdy enough to wear around the house every day for a couple years before they wear through, and are warm. First thing out of bed I put mine on and have for years. You / he might give 'em a try. Besides, they pick up cat hair and help keep the floors clean.

Guilt is misplaced IMO.

You can’t care for other people more than they care for themselves. Or their chickens. Chicken Guy can visit the same place you do to get the same stuff. If he cared.

In the military everyone moves every couple of years. So in any unit of any size, every month includes a few arrivals and departures. It was traditional to have a party every month called “Hail and Farewell”. Whereat all the newbies since the last party were welcomed into the fold and everyone leaving before the next party was honored. At once such party one wise old guy (probably all of 40yo) said on the occasion of his farewell:

I’ve done this a lot of times. It’s always hard to leave my friends. But I’m gladdened to know I have a whole other set of friends where I’m going. I just don’t know their names yet.

There are people in WV you’ve never met who you’ll be of great service to. You’re probably not feeling guilty about ignoring them for the last year. So it’s equally inappropriate (but certainly natural) to feel guilt over ignoring e.g. Chicken Guy next year.

Missing Chicken Guy and his eggs and the act of bringing him stuff is wonderful. Feeling guilt over it is IMO unnecessary and unhelpful.

I spent many years teaching my late wife to offload all the guilt triggers her mother (my MIL) had so carefully installed to control her with. So any mention of the word “guilt” is a call to action for me. Learning to offload guilt is the work of a lifetime. I’m definitely a work in progress on this. But it’s soooo worth it.

Thank you. Everyone else too.

More wistful than painful now. But there are now 3 days per year (birth, death, and wedding) that sting more than the others. If I’m honest, even when she was healthy she was not nearly as adventurous as I am. So a lot of what I’m doing now is making up for what didn’t happen when she was healthy. Much less when she wasn’t healthy.

HL just delayed that process of me making up for lost time by 2+ years. And reduced the time I have left for making up by the same 2+ years. Which is probably the larger loss. If there was anything that could ever bring me to resent HL, it’s that: 2+ years down the drain that I can’t really afford to waste at my age.

Cookie: best to be circumspect about late season northern tier blizzards. Those are killers. As to the $27M dinner, it wasn’t that long ago you were beefing to us about an expensive steak dinner; perhaps that stuck in your craw more than you recognized at the time?

Best of luck to everyone else with everything else going on!

As to me …
I was to bed at an OK hour then up decently early, sheveled, and out the door. I’ve been eatin’ and caffinatin’ at better-than-Denny’s awhile now.

In a few minutes I’m off to visit my GP for my quarterly well-baby visit. The blood tests were sorta the usual: cholesterol a bit better and plenty good enough, diabetic A1C slight worse (I’m definitely eating excess carbs and need to cut back a bit), and red blood numbers slightly wonky, probably a sign of drinking a tad more than this oldish bod would prefer. So I expect a ritual chastisement.

OTOH, she (the PCP) was the one who listened yet again to my tale of marital woe 3 months ago then said “Let’s not have this conversation again for the 6th time next visit. 5 is enough.” So this time we won’t. Rather the opposite. So yaay me!

Post-that I’ll do some minor retail erranding. Today is cloudy enough that beaching might not happen. Temps are mid 70s/25ish, so that part is good, but clouds really ruin the experience at that temp.

In a bit of good news the snazzy red outfit I bought for wearing to Scarlet Night on Virgin cruises arrived a couple days ago and needed just a bit of tailoring. So it’s at the tailor now and it’ll be done next week before I leave for Mazatlán. This week was the last chance to receive it and get it ready; the cruise starts only 2 days after I get back from Mexico, so everything cruisy needs to be ready before I leave for Mexico.

Happy HammerDay!

Cheers all!!

Morning all. Up at 7am with the temperature at 56F heading for 74 and few if any clouds. Anything I want to do outside had better be done today, since the Weather Wizards are predicting 100% chance of rain for Firday. After yesterdays activity today should be more slothful, do want to keep up my gym routine but we’ll see.

Have read all but fuzzy on the details, so everyone have a good Thorsday!

Very good point.

I am currently sitting in the car at the local VA clinic. MusicMan has his first official appointment here right now. If he doesn’t come out in about 30 minutes, he’s going to be stuck here while I go to my appointment.

I am very tired this morning, so I just combed my hair and put a hat on. He saw me and said, “your head looks much smaller that way.” :face_with_raised_eyebrow::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

For some, I’m sure it was. But both my mother and MIL managed the family finances, budgeting, paying bills, building up savings. I don’t think it was so much subordination as the best person for the task. FIL was pretty much oblivious when it came to money - not wasteful, just not interested enough to deal with it on a daily basis, and MIL used to work in a bank. And in the early days of their marriage, my dad was working full time and going to college at night, so Mom assumed the money management.

In my youth, I fully expected to be a SAHM, but since I was so shy, I didn’t date, making it pretty much impossible for me to follow that path. Then after my years in the Navy, once I did marry and have Daughter, we needed my income, plus, frankly, I’d have gone mad being a Happy Homemaker. To this day, well, you know how much I love to dust…

However, I did make some headway in the basement. I need help with a few things - no sense in risking my back, yanno. Then I need to attack my studio where some of the basement crap got stashed. THAT will be a major undertaking, as it’s become a junk room over the last 5 years or so. But that’s a chore for another time - maybe I’ll make a start this afternoon. Or not. Who knows…

I was trying to find a Senior Women’s Bible Study for MIL. She’s visited several churches around here, but the congregations are mainly young. It’s a Navy town, so that makes sense. She wants what she had in Ocala - land of retirees. I posted on NextDoor - maybe someone there can point me in a direction.

We were also talking to her about going to the Senior Center. Unfortunately, most of their activities are crafts or exercise classes that are beyond her. A woman who can barely stand can’t do Zumba… They do have Chair Yoga - that might work. Further investigation warranted.

But for now, it’s nearly lunchtime (bearing in mind I have breakfast stoopit early.) So off to the kitchen I go!

I was wrong.

I mentioned this to my friend who was there with me, and she said ‘Actually it was two transvestites roasting a midget.’

Morning all.

Some downtime at work today. We spent the first day anna half building racks, then began placing stock on the shelves yesterday afternoon. There were about 140 SKUs, of which we completed about half yesterday. Picked up where we left off this morning, and then we were told that the contract was for only 100 SKUs and that we should stop at that point. We’d already surpassed 100 by then, so now we’re standing around doing nothing while the company tries to extort more money out of the client for us to finish the job. We’d be almost finished by now if we’d just kept working, but instead we’re getting paid the same to not work. Stupid.

I haven’t had much time to respond to the Mumper goings-on this week, but I’m following along. Everyone hang in there and carry on!

Mom, in 1983: “You spent 4 hours playing Defender? You’ll never get payed to shoot things with lasers!”
Me, after spending 3 hours clerking both SSLAW stations, and scanning hundreds of packages with a laser scanner: “SUCK IT, MOM!”
I did my Teeter run, and got a brush for Spot.

I’d do that. But good luck on the doc appointments for you and MusicMan

I wish I had an idea for you. Maybe try gin and screaming at a dumpster?
