(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

Beefing? Moi??? Yeah, okay.

In other news, we were informed that our house maintenance guy has quit. They only hired him out of desperation, apparently. He has an iffy work history with some 30 jobs in the past 20 years. The new hire is a former construction company owner with solid creds, so hopefully he’ll do a better job.

Had my physical. I told the dr. The urgent care lady scared me.
My doc looked at my blood work and said my kidneys and everything else is fine.
Even said I shouldn’t worry about the high risk hpv.
I just wish my hair would get thick again.
Off to the grocery store.
I work a few hours tomorrow.
Then finally get a check next Friday. Should be about 130.

My blood pressure is better.
Its usually 135/80 and last week it was 120=80 and today 118/70.

This is the one Boofae uses: What The Forecast?!!. They have free versions for Apple and Android. Search by that name in the appropriate app store. You can dial the profanity level up and down.

Best of luck on the job, the hours, and the idjits actually getting you a check when they say they will.

FCM Congrats on some light at the end of Daughter’s tunnel. If not this, then something else soon is bound to turn up.

As to MIL, she’s just gonna keep getting up without bothering you and therefore going to keep falling. The hardest thing by far dealing with my MIL’s fading months was accepting that I cannot try to take responsibility for her outcomes; she’ll stymie my best efforts every time. I can take responsibility for being cheerful, and helping when she asks or when I notice the need. But I can’t take responsibility or worry for what she’s gonna do out of my sight. No matter how unwittingly self-destructive her behavior is.

You’re not seeking indifference to her plight. But you are seeking a measure of distance about how much you can affect her plight. The answer is definitely “Far less than you wish”, and that has to be (or become) good enough for you.

Big {{hugs}} and here’s an extra dose of strength to see you though: MMMMPHHH!!!

Just think how fun that situation is from your boss’s POV. Money going out, no money coming in, and work already done that he can’t practically repossess; a trifecta of suck. You have the easy part.

There were many times I really enjoyed being a manager. But there were a lot more times I really enjoyed being a not-manager. So simple, so stress-free.

Yaay for improving BP. You’re too young to be having chronic high BP; If you start young that stuff will do a lot of damage by the time you’re old.

As to me... Survived my PCP visit too. She has a new receptionist / assistant who might work out. Unlike the last several.

As expected, her advice was simple: Eat fewer carbs, cut back to very little drinking, and get more exercise. Yeah … right doc; sure thing. I’ll do some of that some, but not much of it much.

At least she gives awesome hugs.

Got some erranding done, changed into beach gear, and now at 2:30 with all y’all properly updated I’m about to head out there. Perhaps to late lunch at/near there. Clouds are scattered, so we shall see how it goes.

Cheers all!

I am actually, 62. I’ve been on a bp med for awhile.

I’ve been crazy-busy, so apologies in advance for this being so long.

First, apartment news. I’d been told by a neighbor that downstairs neighbor moved out, and I didn’t hear the nightly snoring. Apparently, she was just away, and they were showing her apartment to the Door Slammers, hopefully with her permission. So a tentative whew there. I think her lease is up next month, so I hope the Slammers aren’t leasing it. Should I warn them it’s had massive black mold issues?

Everyone I’ve talked to here plans to move when their leases are up. My next-door neighbor said he was in the office one day when corporate was there. He complained because he has black mold along some windows. The corporate rep said, “We don’t call it black mold, and we don’t want YOU calling it black mold.” He said, “Well, it’s mold, and it’s black, so, you know, black mold.”

If there’s a class action suit against just the software company that makes the price-fixing app, I’ll join it.

Lots of phone calls to and from my family about my SIL’s vision stuff. I swear, if one of us got a hangnail, it’d involve 16 phone calls and a dozen roses.

I got a surprise call from an old friend I hadn’t talked to in 30 years. (We’re FB friends.) I worked with her husband, so I was actually closer to him, but she and I were friends, too. He died a year ago, and I’m still upset about it, but she’s really struggling. They had a wonderful marriage. One of my favorite things about Bob was his obvious love and respect for his wife.

Anyway, I’m glad she called. It was a two hour conversation, but it seemed to help her. It helped, me, too. Turns out she hated my ex. She said one day when I was really sick and on the sofa all day, she came over with flowers. My now-ex entered and said, “Where’s dinner?” She said she almost decked him. I wish I’d known then how many people hoped I’d dump him.

My subconscious finally got some backbone. I have bad dreams in which my ex is back in my life and making me miserable. Often he’s out to kill me. In last night’s dream. he left snarky notes wherever he saw a need for improvement. Dream Me told him, “Get the hell out of my house, you patronizing son-of-a-biscuit.” (OK, I didn’t say “biscuit.”) And he did. I like to think he had the same dream and woke up feeling thwarted.

My daughter is arriving tomorrow. Yesterday I got my shots, took the cart to the grocery store (total: 6 miles), and made banana nut muffins. Today I’m working on the sauce for the lasagna. It’s a long process. Luckily, the store had pork neck bones. Tomorrow I’m making pot roast, as it’s one of her favorites.

That used to be the case here, too, but there are currently about 40 apartments vacant out of 170 in the complex. There were a number of new complexes built. Maybe that’s why–well, that and the huge rent increases.

She’s so smart and capable (a chip off the maternal block) that I’m sure she’ll find something soon. Maybe she can parlay her education administration experience into something managerial in corporate America.

doggio, I forgot to say last time that I get a chuckle out of the new ditty.

You are a gem. Cats should build shrines to you.
And I’m sending get well wishes to VBC.

I’m with wetone. The national average is $20-$30 a day. I know this because I used to cat sit gratis for several people, and they made me look up the national and local averages so they could pay me. I visited 3x/day and played with the cats so they got some exercise, and I kept a daily log, but yeah, scooping and feeding/watering runs that much.

Sweet house! I love all the storage space in the kitchen, and what a great deck! The little sheds are nice, too. Would you hire out the lawn mowing?

Congrats on the new job, BatBoy!

I woke up this morning to find my first set of instructions for my mystery piece in my inbox. It is going to be SO much fun!

It is kinda too big to easily drag across the country and I do have smaller pieces I could bring but why start doing things the easy way now?

Fingers crossed that things start looking a little brighter on the financial front for them.

That’s what we are eating today. The fridge is pretty empty but if we don’t eat the rest of the leftovers, they will have to be thrown out before we run the dishwasher.

I hope you are wrong! There is so much ick out there this time of year, it’s ok if you don’t join that club of sufferers.

Have you heard of Ruggables? We have a couple and when our other runners need to be replaced, the replacements will also be Ruggables. They are machine washable and very puke stain resistant. GG has been caught clawing them up at times but he hasn’t damaged them. I highly recommend them for pet owners.

You are nice, damnit! Cause your words on the subject are almost gentle.

Oh, good to hear it. It is so difficult when our speechless family members are sick, they can’t tell us where it hurts. I hope she continues to improve.

Enjoy the concert!

Not to mention that when someone gets tired of the way a room looks, replacing runners, comforters and table scarves is much easier than changing out the carpets.

I was raised a Catholic. Guilt was woven into my very being long before I was five years old. I’m used to it now, LOL!

Hubs goes to the VA for medical care. Sometimes he doesn’t even have time to check in before they are dragging him to a room and other times he waits and waits and waits. It’s pretty much a crapshoot, but he’s used to it now.

Howdy! Dang about standing around, but at least you are being paid for it. Didn’t you mention that you were going to a spring training game tonight? It looks like the weather will be perfect, I hope you have a great time.

Good for dream you!!! Here’s hoping that the dreams will lessen now that you know you can kick him out if needed.

Have a great time with your daughter!

I totally understand this. Good pet sitters are gems and should be treated as such. I’m not going to argue with her over the money though. No reason to raise our blood pressure over something avoidable like that. I’ll give her the forty dollars in cash and then pay the rest in kitty litter and pet food delivered to her door. That will mean she doesn’t have to spend money on it and might make up a little for the time she will be spending here.

It comes with that riding lawnmower on the non-deck side of the walk. But, looking at the maps, it looks like many of the large yards were mowed on the same day, so I’ll bet there is someone available to do it if needed.

Our second choice went under contract today which is OK by us. I looked at Hubs’ list and there are 11 addresses now, I hope we will have time to see them all this trip. If we don’t find anything this trip, we can go again in a couple of months.

NF wasn’t able to go to Tai Chi due to life stuff getting in the way so won’t be able to see her fantastic camera obscura that VanGo made for us.

After TC I went to the post office and mailed off Mom’s patterns. Her printer isn’t working, maybe it needs ink or an update or something, and she doesn’t want to get another one because she rarely needs one anymore. On those occasions that she does need something printed, she just calls me and I send it to her the next day.

One time last year she did need something right away so I had her go to the library with her tablet and then call me so I could tell the nice library worker what she needed to do (open email, find document that needs printing and send it to the printer) and he was very nice about helping her, so that’s an option she has too.

Well, laundry is going and packing has started. I’ve gone through my sewing basket and am only taking what I know I’ll be using, I checked the batteries on my travel lamp and I’ve ordered some weed for pickup on the way out and everything is charged. I’m sure we will forget something, but I am also sure that there will be stores all along our trip, we can replace or do without whatever it is we forgot.

You are so sweet. Thanks for the get well wishes, VBC is much improved today. She gave GG a face wash but then gave him her patented 1-2-3 slaps he gets when he won’t take no for an answer.

Howdy Y’all! Well, I did end up havin’ to put on real clothes and leavin’ da cave. I had to go over to the church house to pry off a couple of the brass caps on the candles. They screw on and apparently I got over zealous with a couple of 'em, so had to go rectify that. Whilst there I solved a panic situation about where the ugly (IMO) wood podium was. It was where it always is when not in use. We et an early sup of various leftovers and now fridge is clear of any would be science experiments.

JtC I agree that the carpet would have to go. It looks like mold or mildew on the floor. ICK!

Taters hope you feel better soonest.

Sticky_Buns hide not your weirdness under a bushel. Let it so shine forth!

Cookie glad the kitteh is doin’ better. That’s what you get for dreamin’ about dinin’ in a Michelin three star restaurant.

Metal_Mouse large rain is expected in these parts tomorrow, as well.

MOOOOOOM I shall cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages for daughter.

Wheelie sometimes on must chant the mantra, “it all pays the same.”

Coppertone yay for the good blood pressure!

Nellie daughter will be well fed. Mom home cookin’ is a wunerful thing.

Hubs has family in the area and of course they are all going to the place and looking in the windows. The carpet is the first thing all of the womenfolk mention, LOL!!! They all think the place looks very nice and admire the location.

Yup. We worked late yesterday so we could skate early today.
The Giants will be visiting the Brewers’ facility at 6:10. We want to arrive early to soak up as much of the atmosphere as possible.

Not long after I posted my last message, we got the go-ahead to keep plugging. All items are put away and data collected. We should be out the door soon. Just waiting for the PM to finish some paperwork.
Tomorrow will be labeling and auditing. Saturday I sleep in and fly home.

Nah - I’ll just come here and complain. Maybe I’ll spoiler my whines so they can be more easily ignored.

This all over the place! Earlier today, she said she was going to get herself some ice cream. I pointed out that she didn’t have the strength to open the freezer (bottom drawer, seriously overloaded) nor could she reach the bowls on the shelf. Then I got her ice cream. If I’m around, I’ll be ready to catch her if she falls, but I’m not going to hover any longer. She’s made her choice.

Supper is done. Dishes are rinsed. Chillage shall ensue.

Afternoon all. Got to the gym for some cycling and sauna time, then came home and put some of the calories back on, but I really think my conversion last year to Diet soft drinks has helped a lot, figuring 150 calories per 12oz can and about 3 cans a day, that’s (let’s see, put down the 5 and carry the 3…) around 3100 calories I am not adding every week. Even like the taste of them now. Pretty day, it’s 73F out but all the Weather folks are saying the rain is sure to fall tomorrow, so maybe a good thing I’ve got 3-4 loads of laundry to do. Probably do it at home, if I’m losing water it ain’t much and has to be cheaper than the laundromat. We’ll see.

JtC, safe travels. Glad VBC is doing better, GG probably was happy to accept the slaps, that means his friend still cares…

nellie, with new apartments going up and that percentage of residence, I would think that management just might try to be a little more customer-friendly…but what do I know. And nice that you heard from an old friend. And yeah! for telling off that SOB, even if in a dream. Enjoy the daughter visit.

Coppertone, I have one of those wrist BP monitors, try to check every 2-3 days, been doing pretty good without my medication, we’ll see what the Dr. says when I go in for my annual checkup in April. Fingers crossed they come across with the dough.

Pilot, agree with you on managing. Never went after a supervisor job although I probably could have got one, just not my style. And we pictures sometime of that snazzy red outfit.

Wheelie, hey, getting paid to stand around and wait isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Cookie, hope the new maintenance person works out well. As for the dream dinner bill, I was in charge of setting up dinner for about 30 mid-level folks at a meeting, and they put the tab on one bill! About $1800 IIRC (this was 20 years ago). Fortunately everyone was in a good mood and tossed in cash to cover it.

Sticky Buns, Hope the leg Doc had some good news for you

boo fae, Safe travels. Detroit has a nice airport (couldn’t say that about the old one from the 1980’s), hoping that Murphy doesn’t show up and spoil things.

doggio, sometimes after reading your posts I wonder when you were a kid if you had a pet tiger named Hobbs…

FCM, best wishes for Daughter getting that job. First jobs often don’t work out and the ‘rebound’ turns out to be a good career move (was for me, at least). And it was the same in my house when I was growing up, Mom managed the money; I’ve had to learn be a bachelor and have a tremendous appreciation of how she/you do it.

OK, need to get a few things done and then be thinking about Cheeseburgers for dinner. Take care all.

I would like to afford the gym again. My goal is to 1/50 of the way to Ronda Rousey.
I heard there was some kerfuffle going on with Planet Fitness.
Went to the church dinner. Hot dogs. Mac & cheese, cole slaw, beans.
I won’t be going anymore, my ex was there.
I don’t need to be reminded I was stupid enough to be with him. It doesn’t feel like a safe space with him there.
Of course, I will have more to eat, theres nothing wrong with my appetite.
More stuff later, don’t wanna bore ya.

Are you sure he’s feeling OK?

When Big Bro lived in a holler with a sizeable hill (not quite mountain size) about 150 feet from his back door, they had gravity fed water. That may be an option for some of the places you’re looking at. My grandad was a well driller and my uncle took over the family business, but it stopped at his generation. A lot of what you’ll need to know too, is how high the water table is.

TGIT!

It was a bit of a goof off day today. I was able to stretch my irkload out to meet the time available. On the car front, it looks like we’re a couple of weeks out on one of the parts. Boo! Hiss! I’m so ready for this to be over. By the time I get it back, it will likely have been five weeks in the shop.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well bother. I just got a message from the boob squishing place asking me to call them back. The only reason an imaging center would call a patient is if their machine messed up and they want me to come back.

I didn’t want to do it the first time, I certainly don’t want to do it again. I’ll call them tomorrow to reschedule, but not being around my calendar, I’ll have to trust outlook and their reminder call to get me there on time.

That’s gotta be better for your teeth as well. I got into the habit of drinking icewaterwithlemon, please way back and I know that made a big difference in my weight, plus I stopped having to get fillings all the time.

I hope it is everything you wanted! The nightly news shows many happy fans in their reports and it’s probably about 80F ATM so it’s just the perfect time of the year for it.

But now that you mention it…

I did not know that was a thing. Ignorance fought, thank you

Several of Hubs cousins have been on wells all of their lives and are enjoying sharing their knowledge and experiences with us. This has been very positive for hubs, he’s engaged and happy.

So…we are packed and it looks like I’ve become a little more high maintenance then I was when we traveled on a Harley. He has one suitcase, I have two plus my needlework bag and frame holder and I’m bringing two pair of shoes. And the ice chest which will be filled with frozen gallon bottles of our water instead of risking tap water in foreign lands.

Hubs and I haven’t traveled together since 2015 and I’m going to have to remember that he thinks that we are still almost a decade younger than we really are. I’m bringing weed, carts and needlepoint. I will be fine.

I napped. I had a Jungle Bird. Watching hockey.

Also, there is apparently a algorithm that tells landlords how many apartments to leave vacant to create artificial scarcity, and drive up rent.

Glad things are a little better, Coppertone.

A stuffed Basset hound named “McKeever”.

He wanted teriyaki, not Italian marinated chicken. Because cat.

Well, damn. I just got upsetting news from one of my family. I’m not supposed to tell anybody, but I can say nobody’s broken any laws or done anything immoral. It’s still upsetting to me, however. Right now, to borrow the lyrics of Carly Simon,

Sometimes I wish
often I wish/
that I never knew some of those secrets of yours.

And no, I can’t tell them not to tell me, not because I have no boundaries, but in this
case it’s because it’s the nature of the beast. I’ve been crying for hours. Luckily, I can work while I’m crying.

I’m trying to think of something cheery to say. Maybe later. Sorry to be such a downer. Maybe it won’t seem like such a big deal in the morning.

Just when you think you know somekitty.

Buddy seems to make a hobby out of confusing the furless ones. He has mood swings between “I’ll accept attention if you offer it, but am not really feeling all that sociable” and “I need to be Velcro’d to you at all possible times”, which I can cope with (although it would be nice if the cats hadn’t both decided on less sociable moods at the same time).

He’s now, after knowing him for almost two years, suddenly decided he very much likes drinking from the faucet set on trickle. Given that I live in California, which does tend toward the drought-prone, just leaving a faucet trickling for him does not seem like a great option. I’m wondering about acquisition of a fountain such as FCM has described, but cannot think of a good place for it anywhere near any possible connection to plumbing. Any thoughts on that, anyone?

Oh, pet fountains don’t need to be connected to the water. They have a tank that you have to fill and of course they need regular cleaning. Ours holds 70 ounces and only needs to be filled every few days. If you forget, the pump will start squalling. If you ignore that long enough, it will burn out but it is just an aquarium pump and easily replaced.

Ours have a red Pagoda Fountain because VBC doesn’t want to drink from the bowl, she wants to drink from the top. Despite having fountains at his breeder’s house, GG took a while to figure out that he shouldn’t stick his head under the waterfall to drink out of the bowl, but he did figure it out.

I picked a red one because I wanted that color, not because the cats care.

Our porcelain one is more expensive than plastic, but I’ve gotten more paranoid about plastic over the years. BFF bought a plastic one with an open top for about 30 bucks.

Some cat fountain options.
Mine isn’t among them, but as you can see, there are many options.
