It’s been a nice overcast morning here before it heats up again this afternoon. Dinner with my niece and her wife was nice, but I feel terrible for her wife. Her dad is not doing well at all (and already dying of cancer) but he won’t do the paperwork to settle his affairs. It’s just so much on her shoulders and they live 6 hours away from him.

Depending on how his surgery goes today, they might come up here to see my new house. So I’m running the robot vacuum and tidying up a bit in case they actually make it.

Swampy I expect your Dawgs will thrash my Sooners, but hopefully they can at least make them earn it!

Shoe sorry to hear about Charm. Is that the snake you got from a coworker? Is he still around?

FCM I hope you’re able to talk to your mom soon and that she gets answers quick.

I walked to work this morning 47F, wore 4 layers on top and 3 layers on my legs. It was up to 58F on the walk home so I took off the merino wool sweater.

One of the bridges on a main road over an even mainer road is being worked on this weekend. Cars have to exit mainer road onto main road, wait for about 2 traffic lights, then exit on other side of main road back onto mainer road. The traffic backup is horrendous. I texted daughter who is going to brunch with someone who lives south of main road, not to take mainer road as that would easily add at least an extra half hour to the drive.

I could have easily written this about Hubs, several times each week. I think he just likes to have an excuse to get out of the house every day.

This afternoon for Coffee Week daughter and I are going to a coffee shop that’s blurb says “Enjoy a free henna activity…, experience live entertainment w/ a fortune teller (not a fan), a DJ and live music. Delight in delicious finger foods provided by a local eatery. 50% off all drinks.” So, I’m looking forward to getting a henna design and a specialty coffee, perhaps a mocha latte or a cinnamon dolce latte.

Then at 5pm will be watching the Spartans who will be ready to rumble against those cornhuskers from 'Braska. My hope is for an injury free game and may the best team win; I’m hoping it will be the team wearing green.

Right after I posted, I relocated to the main floor couch for lunch and the written word. Pizza was et, a chunk of book was read, and then I did something for the first time since moving here almost three months ago: I took a nap! I’m not sure how long it lasted; I’ll guess around 30 minutes. I hadn’t been aware of being tired, but I suppose I was. After I woke up I was still too lazy to deal with the garage door opener remote, but I did walk the 150 feet to the mailbox – where there was, in fact, a new issue of New Yorker waiting. I’m currently upstairs in my home office, because there was something I wanted to do on this computer and I figured I’d check in while online, but I plan to go back to the main floor shortly and read the magazine (and maybe some more of my book).

For those following the aunt saga, she’s been released again: seems she was just having a reaction to the new medication they’d started her on. Phew!

It was cloudy most of the day, but the rain finally started as I was walking to/from the mailbox. It’s not supposed to stop until around midnight, then it starts again tomorrow around lunchtime. Maybe I’ll get motivated to do the garage remote thing in the morning. <narrator: don’t bet on it>

Whenever I decide that I’m done reading for the day I’ll head to the TV room, for more catching up on shows. And today’s New York Times online puzzles (I keep a Macbook down there). And maybe more posting. :grin:

It’s a nice idea, but I’d bet on something more like “…and she never touched that set (or the bags of alternate pieces) again.” :joy:

MSG didn’t come in today. Things went smoothly. Admittedly, we didn’t get the irreg trailer, so Monday could be FUBAR, but that for future dogbutler to deal with. I had my bacon and eggs, did a load of laundry, and took a quick nap. Now I’m having a gin&tonic and watching preseason hockey. Then Wolfpack football. God help me.

Today on the shopping trip I got quite wet. I was on a mission to find new microwaves for the office.

It was misty as I went into Home Depot. 20 minute search, nothing that matches the size we need. Of course the microwaves the designers chose to build into the wall has been discontinued. Hence, the search. I left Home Depot to try my luck at Loews. Of course, one of the heavy bands of the nor’easter decided to arrive. Hood up, and onward. At Loews we found that it is the depth of the microwave is the troublesome dimension. Onward again. This time the rain was coming down even harder. I decided to take refuge in ikea, and get lunch; instead of heading to Best Buy. Wowser! Prices for meatballs have gone up in ikea.

On Monday we will try to take the most broken microwave out of the wall and hope there is a bit more room in the build in. Otherwise looks like we will get countertops. Don’t get me started on the designers they chose for this office. 8 years in so much stuff has broken and cannot be fixed or replaced.

I am happily home, dried off, and in the chair with lager.

Talked to my other sister just a bit ago. Based on what she told me and my extensive medical knowledge (because I can Google) I fear it may be the beginning of congestive heart failure. Someone hasn’t been going to the cardiologist as she was supposed to, nor has she been monitoring her weight as she was supposed to. At least she’ll be in a proper hospital where they can do the necessary tests instead of a KP urgent care center. And I shan’t comment on KP HMO nonsense, tho my sister and I are in agreement. Anyway, she’ll give me a phone number as soon as Mom is settled in a room..

The rest of today is for chillage, as much of the afternoon has been. Mostly 'cause I’s tahred. Methinks I’ll sleep with Mel tonight.

Well, I survived…more or less. Had to referee my U10 game so was both coach and ref and was only about average at both of them (we lost 1-2). Then did the two games I was scheduled to do and by the time I finished the temperature was up to 84F again, so had to work out in the sun. Plus my right foot was aching most of the time, the podiatrist appointment is about 10 days away, hope I make it that far. So home about 8 hours after I left and ate a half-pint of ice cream as soon as I could, so I feel better now. Guarantee that I will be doing nothing for the next few hours except internettin’, watching tackleball, and maybe hobbling to the microwave to nuke a Big Bowl of Pasta. Worn down, I am…

And I’ve had my garage door opener nearly permanently affixed to my sun visor since I got my door opener, only take it off to change the battery. Good afternoon, everyone. Today was vent filters and water softener salt day. Woo-hoo!

Mrs Magill had a “me day” and enjoyed puttering around.

I finished up laundry and read a bit.

Squeaky got his hair cut.

I think I’ll do some Minecraft tonight. My desktop has been sounding like a peripheral was plugging and unplugging, so I sat down and went through the attached devices. It’s Bluetooth transceiver was acting up. I don’t use it, so it’s shut down now.

Howdy Y’all! I survived gettin’ all learnt up. Actually I had some fun talkin’ with folks from other churches in the area that came for the trainin’. Lunch was pretty good. We had sammiches from the Pubic Sto’, fruit, N.O.T. sallit, chips, and brownie and cheesecake bites. I didn’t get outta there until almost four-thirty, so the game was already underway. I watched for a while and then just started checkin’ in from time to time as the game got borin. My DAWGS are up 31-14 with about two minutes left. I foresee an early bedtime as well.

I have read all, but my brain got full of trainin’, so I am unable to comprehend much. Thus, yays, boos, noogies, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

On my way to Church Lunch Church Guy messaged and said he was going to a restaurant for lunch and if I was back by then, he’d bring me a spaghetti dinner. I was and am finishing it now.

9:30pm and while that’s early, I’ve been up 15 fairly active hours and no nappage, so I think I will retire to the bedroom after this missive and let nature take it’s course. Probably means I’ll be up early tomorrow, but I’ll deal with that when it happens.

SWMBO decreed that today is a road trip day. Fine by me! :slight_smile: We went down to Shawn O’Donnel’s in Mount Vernon for breakfast. Yes, I cheated on my diet (Farmer’s Omelette, I think it was called) with soda farl, and a banger on the side), and then we went to the Admiralty Head Lighthouse. I bought a copy of Battle Ready: The National Coast Defense System and the Fortification of Puget Sound, 1894-1925, which I neglected to buy last time. We went down to the batteries briefly, then headed home on Chuckanut Drive. We stopped at The Black Cat in Fairhaven for a couple of drinks (Vieux Carrés for me) and some lunch. I cheated again, with halibut & chips.

I wanted to finish the rolls on two cameras. The B&W in the Canon A-1, and the colour in the Nikon FE2. Turns out I only had two exposures left on that two-year-old roll of film. Still have about 10 on the colour.

I killed a mole with a trap. I put it in a plastic bag and put it into the bin. I’ve reset the trap.

Must’ve been someone else - my co-workers know ABOUT my snakes, but that’s the extent of it.

The big’un (Pretzel, an aging grande dame of a ball python) is still around.

I’ve heard that’s difficult to do at home without special equipment. Mind sharing your secret?

Survived Late/Long Night (actually we got out around quarter till, which is nothing special but could be worse) and since I’d snacked at work, when I got home I took off my shoes, swished some Listerine, and went straight to bed.

I’m having a last smoke while catching up with y’all, but imma turn on my sleep stories in a minute.

Oh, and if anyone saw a bright “star” under the almost-full moon earlier tonight, someone looked it up and reported that it was Saturn. Very pretty duet.

Well, at least one of us is happy (NE won for the rest of you-but were extremely lackluster in the last quarter). Michigan State had a lot of injuries, which I hate to see but they seemed to all be short term and minor. One MSU player came back out from the locker room in sweats and on crutches, hopefully he’s all ok by next Saturday. I watched it at my neighborhood bar and grill with my across the street neighbor and that was very enjoyable. We shared a juicy Lucy burger and sweet potato fries. I got the burger (oooh grilled onions let me count the ways I adore you) stuffed with Swiss cheese and she got the sp fries. I tried to get the cook to stuff my burger with blue cheese but evidently they will only put blue cheese on salads-with burgers It.Is.Just.Not.Done. Jane may just have to come up here and shake her cane at them. I had a local draft hard cider over lots and lots of [cloudy] ice while all around me folks are slamming Busch lights and shots. The bartender gets a kick out of me, I guess I’m the only regular who drinks the cider. When the football season is over and I go on hiatus they may have to send a half full keg back to the vineyard. My friend is all chic, she drinks Chardonnay. I guess that’s the wine to pair with sweet potato fries. These two snuggle-toothed brothers kept trying to buy her her next glass of wine but she demurred. The one brother (he is 57 but looks 77-my friend is 79 but looks 59 and she was having no part of it) left in a snit at half time because the bartender refused to serve him any more beer ‘n a shots.

Congestive heart failure comes in all denominations from very mild (fortunately) to people die with it, not because of it. You can live a
long time with CHFbut to do that you gotta do everything she’s not doing. More on that when I’ve had some sleep.

That is a lovely card. I’m sure it will bring solace and joy.

Mornin’

It’s a big day today- no, not T-word submission day, not even the rats’ gotcha day (that’s tomorrow), but the annual fundraising plant sale. This is the day that, hopefully, I get to go fill the car with stuff hard to find in the shops for dirt cheap.

I’ve been the last 3 years; they basically have all the spare plant divisions from a biiig public garden down the road which has just closed for the season and redone the big borders, just shoved into paper sacks.

Everything has a price label on it, but at least the last few times, once I’ve picked a couple of 'em out, they just went ‘Ahh, we’re not going to sell all this, just give us £20 and take as much as you want’. First year I got everything home and worked out that, had I bought the smallest version of the same plants online at the cheapest suppliers I could find, it would be about £140, while I had biiig mature plants that I could split again. Oh, and I couldn’t find some things available anywhere[1].

Last year I was literally sneaking stuff out of the barrow that one of the volunteers was trying to sneak in, because ‘it’s a lovely plant!’ and yes it was, but it was also too big for the space I have.

It’s due to absolutely hammer it down with rain - actually, sideways looking at the wind- and the event is outside, so I’m going to get soaked but I don’t care.

Not that I’m Shoe, but my parents have had some make it to over 30; it can vary a lot though.

  1. garden centres only tend to sell stuff that looks good in a pot, because that’s how people buy it- which means a whole load of lovely plants, especially taller ones, have just fallen out of availability because while they look great in a mixed border, they look leggy in a pot. Pet rant. ↩︎
