(Old) Get To the Chopper! A Bastille Day MMP

Now THAT was a rough close. Clocked out a solid hour anna half after we closed the kitchen (it’s usually more like 30-45 minutes).

It’s “Bike Night” this weekend - some big honkin’ motorcycle festival downtown - so we were way busier than usual PLUS one of the other girls called out sick, so it was just a ridiculous pace at some points.

All other posts and replies TBD. I’m whupped.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

:champagne: :shortcake: :partying_face:HAPPY slightly belated DOPERVERSARY RED!!! :shortcake: :champagne:

I love a good pilar cyst. For you, not so much.

Oy.

We are anchored in Gundarfjordur for 11-ish hours, so no rush to go ashore. It’s a town of 900, which suggests there’s not a lot to see or do. We’ll go walk around a bit, maybe buy a souvenir, maybe not.

Apparently I dozed enough while we were watching TV last night that it took the edge off my fatigue. Which is probably why I was up past 1, making my take-meds-alarm at 7 most unwelcome. Wonder how long till my internal alarm resets itself…

And a week from today, we’ll be heading home. I think this cruise has taught us that our limit is about 2 weeks. So that 93-day South Pacific cruise would be a tad much. Well, that and $$$. At least one stop we really look forward to is the last one. But we’re both ready for this to be over.

Happy Saturday!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/69f with a predicted high of 24c/76f and rain showers. Weather app says “Fuck this rainy shit, I’m out.” It has rained, sun is breaking through and we will be out later.

Happy Doperversay, red!

Yesterday was a fun day, we got a bus down to the park where the music festival is held, and went straight in to get our weekend wristbands. I had paid for the VIP upgrade which was very useful as it was very hot and the VIP bar had some of the only shade on site! We saw some great bands, met up with friends and at the end, got a surprise text from the friends we are staying with to say they were on their way back and could pick us up from the park if we were ready to leave.

There were forecasts for heavy rain and thunderstorms but they seem to have passed by. We may get rain today, we may not. So we will either get wet, or we won’t!

Oops, it’s Grundarfjordur - too foggy to spell here.

I’m showered, dressed, and breakfasting alone - FCD had a bad night and wanted to sleep in. If you looked at my FB, you’ll know it’s veeeeeery foggy here. Dunno if it’ll stay that way all day, but we will venture ashore later.

I’m sure some of you shudder at the thought of me having Diet Coke with my breakfast, and I certainly don’t deserve to judge, but hearing a guy ask for a Bud Light with his breakfast… Even eons ago when I worked mids, so the morning meal was like supper to the rest of the world, beer at breakfast didn’t compute. Funny how our mindset/expectations are so firmly entrenched. Mimosas and bloody Marys seem normal in the morning, but cracking a cold one… :beer_mug: Or is it just me?

I will say I do like having a waiter bring my caffeine of choice, and clear my table. I’ll miss that.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! YAWN Up and caffeinatin’. ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and sunny. There will be quality cee-mint pond time today. In addition, there will be the usual RDOS inactivities. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips and so forth.

MOOOOOOM you should have gone over to the guy and said, “Bud Light for breakfast? Who hurt you, poor dear!” I will have a beerverage after mowage even if it’s only ten-thirty a.m. when I finish.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Yaay!

The intrusive inspections of vehicles entering the parking areas or pick-up / drop-off areas disappeared a couple decades ago. Thank goodness.

But for sure every year one hell of a lot of people still forget (or “forget”) they’re carrying one hell of a lot of guns and ammo until they get jacked up by TSA on their way to the gate.

Back when I lived in Vegas late wife and I would occasionally go out for the “Breakfast of Champions” we called it. Prime rib and Scotch.

But i agree w you that beer at breakfast is just wrong. Then again, Bud Light ain’t exactly beer either. I bet he was wearing crocs too.

Train the cats? Or dogs? Or grandmunchkins?

As to me:
Awoke predawn on a nearly clear day. First time I’ve seen the sun emerge from the sea in about 3 weeks; always been cloudy out there. Quite warm and getting hotter today. Now 85/29 on the way to 93/34 with few clouds and light breeze. I predict crowded beaches today. We have definitely entered the true summer where although the temps aren’t much higher than 30-60 days ago, the humidity is. Which will last until almost the end of August then moderate again.

Otherwise RDOS awaits.

Happy weekend!

Morning all. Up early, watched a little golf, and came here to see what there is to see. Cloudy and a 50-50 chance of rain so a good day to be inside. Need to put the clothes I washed yesterday away and maybe a few other things, but in general sloth will occur.

{{shoe}}. Hope tonight is quieter. Or at least better staffed.

FCM, I usually had Orange juice or something called “ACE” juice (which appears to have been a mix of Orange, Carrot, and Lemon juice) on my cruise, with the occasional Diet Coke, but beer…nah. And yeah, the longest cruise I think I ever took was 15 days, so I don’t think I’ll be taking a longer one anytime soon.

boo fae, hope you stay dry for the festivities today.

And my fast is broken, so off to fold clothes. Have a good Sattiday all.

Happy Doperversary! (a bit belated)

At Starbucks today I saw a tourist order a beverage for himself and a pup cup for his rather fluffy corgi. The person at the cash register had to ask her supervisor how to put it in the register. Not sure what the answer was, but the pup got his pup cup.

I just keep the app open and click on the desired setting. Hasn’t bothered me enough to figure out all the details. Something for darker days.

The first time we were in Vienna, we saw quite a few people with open beer cans at a time most people would be carrying coffee cups on their way to work. When we first moved here it was common to have beer, or even wine, at lunch, even for the factory workers. Beer and wine are no longer on the lunch menu at work. While out and about in town I’ll see people having a beer at 9 on a Saturday morning. But no Bud Light. (shudders)

This morning we went into town to buy pajamas, refill the spice rack and get some more bubblebath. I often take a bubblebath after working in the garden and used the last of it. It was hot (27/80), but a storm came in and now it’s cooler (21/70), raining, with a bit of rumbling in the sky. No lightning, so far.

Have some cranberries in the freezer and been thinking of baking something. Probably a good time to do that, while it’s not so hot. Or just continue being lazy. Decisions, decisions.

Happy Saturday!

Good morning.

It’s 57°F and mostly cloudy, although I can see patches of blue. Mostly cloudy skies will give way to partly cloudy skies this afternoon, with an expected high temperature of 77°F.

We were unsuccessful in procuring a truck or utility trailer yesterday, but have one reserved for today through tomorrow. We’ll pick it up around 10:00 a.m. I really miss having a pick-up.

I added to the tree and bush branch pile by giving my giant-assed rhodie at the bottom of a driveway a haircut. I have to cut this thing back every couple of years severely, and it returns with a vengeance the following year. My husband wanted to dig it out, but once he saw the pruning job, he was happy with it. I shape it and now everything looks nice and tidy there. I need to get some more mulch, though.

red, happy doperversary!

shoe, I hope today is an easier day!

dicey, a lemon/cranberry loaf would be delicious! Assuming you have the fixings for it. Back in the early 80s, when I first started working for the government, I used to work with a German lady. She’d sit out in her car for lunchtime and have her German bread/brochen and cold-cut sandwich, along with a good beer. We were also allowed to have one alcoholic drink when we went out to lunch. Those days ended, though.

VanGo, good luck with the credit card fiasco.

FCM, I wondered if being on a ship for so long would eventually wear thin for you two. That’s a long time to be on someone else’s clock and be stuck with nowhere to go, really.

In my youth, we would head up to the slopes while it was still dark and start the day with a beer. We were classy and drank Lowenbrau, lol! I don’t think I could do that now.

Metal Mouse, I’ve had ACE. I find it quite delicious and refreshing.

Well, I should finish my coffee and get the last of the dishes in the dishwasher. You all take care.

Pilot - train the cat?? You made a funny joke!

We’re back aboard after a stroll around town, such as it is. FCD had to stop and sit 3 or 4 times and as we headed to our room, he said his legs were “numb” up to his thighs. Not really numb, but he said it’s the best way to describe how it feels. Not sure there’s anything that can be done for the spinal cord damage, but since he refuses to see a neurologist, it’ll never get better. Anyway, he’s napping and I claimed a deck chair on 10 facing the water. Gonna read when I finish this post.

The fog persists, but it’s not cold, so there’s that. No rain in Reykjavik tomorrow, but still cloudy. We’ll see how our tour goes. OK, back to reading…

You have a fun car to drive! We are a single car family rn, his roadster doesn’t count nor is it running oof, needs an engine rebuild (again) however we sometimes daydream about getting another fun to drive car. But for now I drive the grocery getter and he’s on two wheels.

When I worked at the bar (we had a dining room attached, so the whole place opened for breakfast), a lot of the graveyard crew at local factories would stop in for a burger or chili and a beer at 0730. Having done so myself working the night shift, not surprising.

Pup cups are complimentary. IIRC, Starbucks was the one to make them popular, but now, a lot of drive ups offer them. We know where the best ones are. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you all for the felicitations! My time on the Dope is now old enough to vote.

Fixing to call Jennifer from the apartment complex to tell her that I’ll take it. After that, it will be more phone calls to arrange moving. I do need to move around some today, since it’s a hurty one and I need to work the kinks out. This getting older isn’t for sissies.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Our car is no longer a teenager! Turned 20,000 on the way to 5G for dinner yesterday. It’s a 2026 Mazda, so the engine’s not even broken in yet.

Relatives coming over today for dinner (I think).

Had a moment of panic last night when I thought I was out of Sadie’s current favorite food (chicken pate), but I found another case of it so that saves me running around town looking for it. Speaking of whom. . .

Caption: “Whatcha watching, Dad?”

Went to let Monkey out, discovered a turkey hen and 8 or 9 chicks (each time I counted I got a different number) peeping around.

Thought it was odd for a single hen to be on her own, when The Posse showed up. Four hens, and at least 30-ish chicks in various stages of development.

I’ll post pics over in the “Seen in Nature” thread.

Oh, and Monkey? Couldn’t help himself. Slunk down off the step, despite my admonishments that a wild turkey could f— him up.

Coupla seconds later, he comes shooting back around the corner, jets past me like I’m not there, and hustled his furry black butt back into the house.

Saturday! Yay! So far today I’ve mostly putzed around on the computer/online, but I also worked for 2 hours (proposal stuff, plus I owed my boss a weekly report). I didn’t really mind, and now I’m all caught up and will be ready for Monday morning. There will be another proposal status meeting at 10am tomorrow, but it should be just as quick as this morning’s was. My final deadline is COB Monday; I’m looking forward to being done with this prop.

Last night I finished the 16th (!) and final season of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team. I also re-watched the first 1.5 episodes of the 2024 Netflix docuseries, just to check on/remind myself of a few things. I probably would have watched a little more, but I’d forgotten how much the two featured girls annoyed me. I think I might have finally gotten my fill of that subject!

I have no plans this weekend, which – as usual – is just fine with me. I’m looking forward to hanging out with Bailey and watching some other stuff (including part one of HBO’s new Billy Joel documentary), and starting to build the wooden model streetcar that was delivered on Sunday.

Phew! Sorry for the “noooooooooo” overreaction.

I’ll definitely keep going to some shows – local working musicians, national artists, etc. – but I’m really quite over the “singers with day jobs” scene (which is hard to explain; just smile and nod). I’ve quietly stopped going to any of those gigs, and will eventually start un-friending some of those folks on FB (the ones I’d only ever see/talk to at those events).

doggio said it first, but I’ll say it again: oy. :frowning:

Already! That feels like it went by fast!

Eight summers ago I rented a friend’s Provincetown beach condo for a week, and was soooo excited about the quality downtime…and then discovered that I’m only cut out for about 4 consecutive days of solitude. Not only did I start missing my dog, I got bored! I wound up going home a couple days early (though of course I still paid for the entire week).

As pilot and dicey insinuated, Bud Light is really just beer-flavored sparkling water.

Exciting!!

My 2020 BMW only has ~22,000 miles on it.

I bought it two months before the pandemic started, and then I worked from home for the next five years. Now that I’m commuting 100 miles each week, the mileage has gradually started ticking up…but it’ll still stay lower than average, as for the time being I’m avoiding very long drives/overnight trips ('cause of the ancient doggy).

So cute!

Ha! :joy:

Mrs. L.A. just left for the hardware store to pick up a certain garden implement. I told her, ‘Good luck picking up a hoe!’

You’re so funny!

Thank you. But looks aren’t everything! ?)

Boy, I screwed that up. My car is a 2016, not a 2026.
