(Old) Get To the Chopper! A Bastille Day MMP

Late night final here. Sloth was slothed, confirmed the chocolates from my trip were delivered to Brother, hopefully they handled it OK, and some overblown batting practice (MLB Home Run Derby) was watched. Tomorrow I have an appointment to drop off my car for a full in-and-out cleaning job, may take 4-5 hours so Uber will provide transport home and back. Since I hope to be selling it within a few weeks, won’t hurt to gussie it up a little bit. Otherwise nothing much on the agenda. Laundry will be on the list for late this week or on the weekend. Freddie’s Steakburger was good but their shoestring fries are meh (IMHO…YMMV).

Well, I might question that, it might have been a revolution against someone else…

Swampy, maybe a wee too much info there, but it is nice having a private pool,

flyboy, hope sister can cope, sounds like you’ve been doing the heavy lifting so far.

VanGo, sounds like your fitting in well there.

JtC, happy that the new glasses are working well and you are not making a spectacle of yourself… And as for losing things, I still have no idea where my passport went last year (had to replace it) and probably one of these days when I move it will turn up somewhere.

Sensei, Hope SenBoy does well in the race and that the committee assignment isn’t too onerous.

And just peeked at the clock and 11pm is creeping up, so off to slumberland I go. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

MetalMouse - I’m pretty sure his point was that history would have taken a completely different path and the musical Hamilton would never have been written.

Actually slept till a bit past 6 this morning! It’s just past 7 and my sweetie is snoring away. We’ll go into Paamiut later this morning and see what’s to be seen.

Happy Tuesday,!

No, it’s still up in the air as to whether it will be just me or MusicMan as well. My mom has never been to one of my shows. Her health issues have always prevented her from doing so.

And, YES, those glasses are awesome!

Hurray!

Today is root canal day! I’m glad because it started hurting quite a bit again last night and this morning. I’m not sure what else I’ll feel like doing, so we shall see.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and cloudy. Weather app says “The clouds are all fucking lurking outside and acting like total fucking douche waffles.” There are some ominous grey clouds out there and we’ve even had a bit of rain which is rather nice.

It was very impressive - he told us that there are many different categories for beards and his chosen one is for a full beard of a length not to exceed 20cm. They also look at fullness, quality, cut and style, with some more specific things for the kind of cut you get from a traditional Turkish barber.

That sounds like it could be a fun day out! Sorry to hear about MM’s cousin, I hope recovery goes well.

That’s not the kind of excitement you really want, is it? I’m glad nobody was seriously hurt, I think modern vehicles are much better constructed and are certainly designed much more with safety in mind.

I doubt it, just a fancy title and the glory that goes with it!

There are several different categories such as full beard, natural beard, partial beard, and a whole 'nother list for moustaches. His category is a full beard (length up to 20cm) as he said anything longer tends to look straggly. There are also categories for styles and cuts, sideburns or not, and all manner of other whimsies.

Yesterday was an adventure…we checked out of our hotel and as planned, stopped for yummy pizza before getting the train to Brussels. We had an hour to spare so we found a nice café and sat outside with a drink until it was time to head towards the Eurostar. The check-in queue was mahooooosive! Turns out that the train in front of ours was over an hour late and they couldn’t let our trainload of passengers in because they just didn’t have room for everyone. So we waited, and eventually got checked in and through security, then passport control, and onto the train. We were nearly an hour late leaving Brussels, so by the time we got back to London, we would have missed the train we were hoping to be on. Except there had been some kind of incident further up the West Coast mainline, so everything leaving Euston going north was either cancelled or delayed.

We did the sensible thing and went to a pub across the road from the station and kept an eye on the train app to see what was happening. We saw that a train just after 9pm was still scheduled, so we scuttled across to get on that one although the departure boards in the station said it was terminating at Milton Keynes, the train staff on the platform said it was going to our home station. We got on, and were soon on our way. Got a cab from the station back home, and pretty much fell into bed (after feeding the cats and cleaning litter trays, of course).

I’m working at home today, then I’m on leave until next Tuesday so I’m not really expecting to do very much today. But I’m here, and I’m logged in, I’ll see if there are any looming crises that need to be averted, and I have a meeting with one of my minions in about half an hour.

Laundry’s swishing in the machine, I have a cup of tea, and all is well with the world. Also, for those who are interested, I was sitting here earlier typing away and Muffin walked right past me! She could have got to where she was going without coming anywhere close to where I was sitting, but she came the long way round

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and sunny. Today is laundry day. My excitatement is boundless. No quality cee-mint pond time today cause both of us have kinda overdone it and should stay out of the sun today. We have chikin left from last night, so we shall sup upon grilled chikin sallit again with some whomp crescent rolls (don’t judge!).

Sticky_Buns hope all goes well with the root canal. You deserve to lay about whilst you sigh dramatically after it’s over.

BooFae major progress for Muffin!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Mornin’ all - ‘bout 0715 as I start driveling. Pretty sunrise today; enough clouds to reflect lots of pinks and oranges, but not so many as to turn the world gray. Overnight low was 78/26, high expected to be 88/31. Showers off and on in the afternoon but not expected to be significant. Been caffinatin’ but not balconatin’ the last hour-plus. Evidently it rained overnight and everything is wet out there.

In honor of Bastille Day had a late and pleasant French-like breakfast outdoors in the sun. Crepes filled w scrambled eggs, mushrooms, ham, and Brie. Tres yummy. By the end of breakfast the rumbling from offshore was continuous but it remained sunny. I knocked off some errands then home as it got gray, then dark gray, then we had a real frog strangler for about 30 minutes, then it slowly tapered off.

By 5pm the excitement was over and the sky was only dripping a bit. Headed out for HH but chose an area where I could park & walk under cover in case it started slamming again later.

My first choice was semi-closed; yes to drinks but no food. The deluge had flooded their kitchen. Oops. Wandered to another eatery/drinkery next door. It’s 530pm, admittedly on Monday, and I am the sole customer in the bar / restaurant. Had a spinach dip served with tortilla chips which chips worked better than I expected. Both better for scooping and better for flavor coordination. And a martini. Then it was time for the second course: grilled corvina on a bed of avocado’d rice, black beans, & salsa verde. Quick sprinkle of pico de gallo atop. And a good Sancerre. By the time I left around 7:30 they’d had a few customers but not many.

Had nice txts with GF. She’s super busy but it seems she’s suffering from me-withdrawal as much as I’m suffering from her-withdrawal.

Eventually drove home as the clouds were finally easing up and stars could be found.

Today is laundry day for clothes and beach towels, plus a first color-separated laundering for some recent purchases. Tomorrow the housekeepers will add sheets and bath towels to my backlog, so I like to start them with me all caught up if practical.

Ought to schedule a haircut, but other than that it’s another RDOS day.

As to y’all …

Yeah. And the hedonic value of a good shower head is night and day over a crap one. Experienced a lot of each in hotels over the years. Even in a rented apartment like I have now, changing the shower head is cheap and easy. Keep the old crappy one to reinstall when you move out.

Likewise get a longer hose for the handshower part. They make them up to ~10 feet long for a whopping $20. Makes rinsing you or the shower stall sooo easy. Da Jungle fix you right up.

wet one: Hope you get the missing pills replaced ASAP. Getting the fresh scrip easily was a big hunk of good luck.

Community theater is one of my faves. Glad you both have that near enough to use.

Tres cool. Tres jealous. I’m still working on a compatible travel companion, then we’ll be off. We hope.

The free car wash is sure true. If only the sky would have the courtesy to also towel off the rain afterwards so it doesn’t leave all the cars completely covered in water spots. Hmm … between this and shower squeegees, it seems water spots are the unofficial theme of this week’s MMP!

I have a monthly all-you-can-eat program with my car wash so the incremental expense of any one wash is zero. And it’s nearby so I’m usually not driving but a smidgen out of my way.

Now that looks neat. Next time I’m in that part of the world …

Some googling says there’s 10 significant car museums in Indiana. Late wife and I once drove past one on I69 going between home in St. Louis and a harpist convention in Archbold OH. Didn’t have time to stop on the way up, and she was too tired on the way back. Damn; wish we’d stopped. I can’t remember any details of which museum and where though.

In searching for apts over the years for my MIL in two different cities, a couple things stood out to me/us. There’s no such thing as a bargain. If it’s significantly cheaper than seemingly comparable places, it’s the “seemingly” part that’s wrong. And yeah, the smaller the SF you’re aiming at, the fewer “features”, like W/Ds, it’ll have. As someone who also prefers smaller over larger you have both my empathy and my sympathy.

Sounds like calling ahead to ask if they have W/D in their 1BRs should be a prereq to booking an appointment to see it. Good luck!

Mo projects mo bettah. That does sound like a fun and neat place to both work and visit.

Sure are.

Damned kids. Geet off my lawn and quit pulling on my belt-onions.

Huh? Cruise control will hold a constant mph on the flats, the uphills, and the downs. The problem I saw were the drivers who didn’t use cruise control. Instead they got settled into their lane, locked their foot into position and wouldn’t move it as the hills and dales went by. 60 on the flats, 50 uphill, 70 downhill. Over and over and over. If ever there was a legit basis for “He/She needed shootin’.”, that’s surely it.

Wow! Long run for short time there. Sounds a lot like my old work. Hope it all proves worthwhile. But your son will sure remember it all, so that’ll probably tip the scales.

Relief can’t come too soon. Good luck!! My rule of thumb is if they’re cutting me, I’m taking the rest of the day off. Any later ambition will be an illusion and no sooner will I start some project than I’ll run out of energy.

It sure was. At least you didn’t get stuck overnighting in London. Or Milton Keynes  .

Me too as to laundry. As to sun, well the last couple days have been none, as will probably be this afternoon. So as soon as the current batch quits spinning, I’m launching off to catch the morning sun while I still can. I’ve fillibustered away the non-gray part of the day too much recently.

I did it! I’m caught up.

Adventure, RDOS, or irk forth as the case may be. Cheers all! :hot_beverage: :clinking_glasses:

Morning all. Stayed in bed until about 7:30am but took my pills at 5:30 when I got the bladder call, so could step right up for my Big Bowl of Cereal and Apple. So fed and caloried and ready for the day. About a hour until I need to leave for the Car Cleaning place, then Uber home and maybe do some stuff around here until it is done. Weather is clear, 74F heading to 94F so a good day for staying indoors.

Laundry is starting to pile up but I think I can make it to the end of the week.

Sticky Buns, rooting for a good and relatively painless canal job.

Boo fae, glad you made it back home and good news about Muffin, she may finally be adjusting to the changes in her life.

OK, onward into the morning internettin’; take care all.

My trip to Taiwan is incidental to the sailing. I have to keep coming back twice a year for another couple of years.

The sailing race should be really good. He’s getting better and better and although he won’t finish that high, it’s really cool to watch all the effort.

It’s also great to see him learn to handle the stress of competing. He loves it, but gets emotional about it. He’s good about being able to put that aside in the actual race. He makes a lot of friends from all over and has very competitive but friendly relationships with them.

It’s a huge investment in time and money for me, but watching him grow and mature is worth it. It also beats having him addicted to video games like a lot of teenagers.

We shan’t be going ashore after all. The tide is extremely low making unloading at the landing very slow, plus the “dock” can only handle one tender at a time. As a result, there’s a one hour delay at 11.30am. Couple that with the requirement to be back by 4:30 and the line to depart - it’s just not worth it. We’ll try tomorrow in Qaqortoq.

At yesterday’s port presentation, we were shown why our other 4 stops were canceled. They showed a chart of reported icebergs in. LOTS of icebergs! So chillage aboard today.

I bet you do :face_with_hand_over_mouth:.

And, yup, those glasses are mighty cute! I’m envious~I’d order two pair too except the TBI vision issues mean I have to have prisms in my lenses and Zenni doesn’t do prisms. Shoot-you’ll just have to rock spiffy glasses for the both of us.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 61°F and sunny outside. Abundant sunshine will prevail, and our daytime temperature will climb up to 91°F. Blech.

Sticky, I hope the root canal goes well.

JtC, those are adorable glasses. I really like them.

BooFae, aw, Muffin missed you!

Lily, that sounds like a nice trip!

Jack_Batty, I’m glad no one was hurt.

I went to the vet to purchase 30 pounds of very expensive dog food. At first, I thought, well, it’ll come out the same in the end, because if I had the same amount of the current food, it would pretty much come out the same, and this will last longer too. However, upon reviewing the recommended feeding, this food requires more per serving. I had both the pups on hydrolyzed pork, which came to about two cups per day for Maisie (she had to go on a diet, and it’s been working), and three cups per day for Buster. Buster would need five cups of this food per day. I’m going to research further. I’m not trying to starve my dogs, but I don’t want them to be overweight, which leads to more problems.

Anyway, after visiting the vet, I cruised back in the other direction past my house and went to one of my favorite nurseries to see if there were any sales. I bought some more echinacea and a couple of other plants to put in the front garden after the roofers are done.

I then came home, took care of some indoor chores, and watered all the plants in pots, especially the ones I’d purchased, as they were relatively dry.

I will need to water up front this morning because it receives the most sun in the afternoon. I’m thinking today might be a good day to bathe the dogs, too. We shall see. That’s a two-person job, and I don’t know what my husband wants to do, yet. I could steam clean the carpets, too, but there is no way I want to push and pull that big machine in this heat.

My son looked at a nicer apartment yesterday and plans to move next month, I guess. I’m not sure if it has a washer/dryer or washer/dryer hookup. I hope so, because he currently has to use the laundry room, or occasionally will bring his clothes up here if he’s spending a weekend. I don’t mind him washing the clothes here, but it would certainly be more convenient for him to wash his clothes in his own unit.

It’s time to get on with the day. I hope you all have a good day.

This inquiring mind wants to know: how does one fry an old-fashioned? Would it work for rum and tonic, one of my favorites?

Lovely news for us in Muffin’s distant fan club! Next thing you know she’ll be rubbing on your calf on her way past.

Apparently, a number of people took the tender in and immediately reboarded to come back. So I’m guessing we aren’t missing anything. We went up to deck 14 and took a few pics, and now we’re chilling on deck 12 in the Crow’s Nest lounge. And FCD just upgraded his internet to get streaming ($50!!) The man is addicted…

Yay, Muffin!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. More looking for apartments to come. Joy!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

This lounge has a coffee bar with one of those very noisy machines (I don’t drink the stuff, so I don’t know what they make) and I swear if I had to work around one of them all day, I’d hurt someone! What an awful sound!!

Hmmm.

I’d associate extra chilling with being near the icebergs, not far from them.

Oooooh, chillage!.

Neeeevvvveeeerrrrr Mmmmiiiiiinnnnnddddd.

Another sluggish day of heat/humidity. We chose today to do laundry for some rash reason. Nothing like handling hot clothes right out of the dryer to cool one off. Luckily the AC has been performing well and we also have a floor fan running.

The commute home yesterday was brutal: thunderstorms the whole way, with periods of very heavy rain and extremely limited visibility. To the point where for a few minutes I couldn’t really drive faster than 40mph, and I actually turned my hazard lights on – which I (almost) never do! It took an hour to get home, which is 15-20 min longer than normal but still not really bad for this area. It kept raining all night, and it’s hot and steamy again today…but, alas, not the fun kind of hot and steamy.

I slept OK, but woke up early so I could be in the office by 8am: my co-worker and I traded cubicles today*, and my first meeting was at 9am and I wanted to be unpacked and mostly “moved in” before then. We each packed up our stuff late yesterday, but she needed to work much later than I did: she moved her bins and equipment before she left, and I moved mine this morning. We share a wall; neither of us went far! So far I like my larger digs, but my colleague didn’t warn me about the constant breeze from the overhead air vent. :joy: Luckily I don’t mind, because I tend to run warm and now I won’t need to turn my little desktop fan on nearly as often…though I do wonder if it might become annoying in the winter, when the air coming out is hot instead of cold. But that’s future Misnomer’s problem.

*Backstory, for those who didn't see it in/don't remember it from the previous thread.

In addition to offices and “standard” workstations (i.e., cubicles), this place also has “manager” workstations (MWs). There weren’t any empty offices or MWs when I started (heck, my boss’s office used to be a small conference room), but my co-worker’s direct reports are being transferred to one of the technical teams at the end of this week and she generously offered to trade desks with me! She said she figured that eventually the powers-that-be would catch on to her no longer being a manager and ask her to move, and she’d rather see me get the MW than someone new. The MWs are noticeably larger, and now I can actually have visitors pull a chair or two up to my desk. It’s nice.

I only got up about an hour earlier than usual, but for some reason I’m really feeling it…I’m too young to be this tired, dagnabit! :joy:

Me, too! I’ve seen him with Elton John two or three times, but never on his own.

That actually sounds like kind of a great day.

They are!

There are mountains in Maryland…the drivers just suck. (Says the woman who grew up mostly in MD, learned how to drive there, and lived there until she was 27.) A friend once said: “People from Maryland drive like they have really good insurance…both medical and auto!”

:crossed_fingers: !!

Awww! Yay!

Short staffed day, so I was bounced around all sort. not a lot of cleanup, but I got started late, so a reasonably long day. In any case, it’s naptime.

I hope this email finds you well. I have not attened class in 4 years, and have forgotten my major. Am I still on track to graduate with my peers? - Dr. Op Hout.

“Fries.” But ask the people at The State Fair. If they can deep fry Coke, the can deep fry a rum&tonic.

“Behold, I will briefly grace you with my divineness.” - Muffin
