(Old) Get To the Chopper! A Bastille Day MMP

Late night final here. Picked up my car about 5pm, it was worth the money, the inside of the car hasn’t been this clean in…a while. At least if I trade it in sometime in the next month or two I won’t be too embarrassed. Then bought a new vacuum and a carpet cleaner so my credit card has taken some hits today. Did make it to the gym for about a hour this evening and just finished my late night snack (a mini-apple turnover and pudding cups), so bedtime is not far away.

Scrollin’, Scrollin’, scrolling on the MMP…

You’ll have to do better than that; got to 94F today and due to make it to 94F tomorrow. But a good sweet tea is a Southern thing to do when it’s hot outside.

Sticky Buns, glad the root canal went OK…we’ll see how tonight and tomorrow go.

FCM, hope the weather improves, missed my first two stops in Antarctica because of hurricane-like winds and high seas. But i expect you will stay in bed. And ain’t it something that you can talk to/see your grandkids from that far away?

Sensei, very nice that you could meet some students in person.

red, does the keyfob work OK now? And can’t the trunk be opened manually?

flyboy, mercy sakes alive, looks like you have a convoy of Rubber Ducks.

Pardon me, what?

And it’s after 10pm so need to finish the day’s internettin’ and head off to slumberland. Take care all.

Both key fobs are fully functional now. The trunk and doors can be opened with a key, but in the case of the trunk, I would have to get on my knees to see where to insert it. Not gonna happen, even if it weren’t approaching triple digits outside.

I think I’ve mentioned how I have developed some hand tremors. I may now have learned something else.

I have loved crocheting for many years and the tremors have inhibited my work. I can’t really di thread work any more. But I can still do yarn although the work is slower. Lately I’ve been getting better and have been working on a couple of granny square afghans. Today I had a kit if other work to do in the apartment and about an hour ago I tried crocheting some, and found my hands really shaky. I think if I work a lot at it during the day and then lay off, I lose some ability and have to work hard to get into the groove again.

This may be my imagination. But tomorrow I’m going to work hard again and see if that helps my had dexterity. Anyone ever had some craft affected this way?

I saw him in concert at my small college in 1979, long before anyone had heard of him and he was riding the circuit and playing for a thousand $ for a concert. I’d be surprised if there had been more than a hundred students there, paid for by the Student Activities Committee. Just him, the stage and a piano. His closing song was Piano Man of course and it made quite an impression on me.

Back in Japan some 22 hours after I left it.

At Kansai International Airport, they have a system you can preregister your customs information and get a QR code. You scan that at a kiosk and then the line through customs is faster. They take your picture at the kiosk and they have face recognition that lets you through.

I had some important information to convey to SenGirl but she ignored my message before she got on her plane.

She did this in Europe as well.

I’m starting a new policy in the Sensei household. The kids need to regularly check for messages from us or no phone. Lol aren’t most of you glad to be part that stage?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

I have a cat, so I am forever stuck in the “ignoring messages” stage.

As opposed to Coke or Pepsi?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 90 and cloudy with possible rain later this mornin’. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Both of us said sump’n about shrimpies ‘n grits last night, so we shall procure shrimpies. Sup will be that, roasted spare guts and cheddar bay bizkits. YUM!

sensei I never procreated so have to look elsewhere for aggravation. Good luck!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

OMG!!! What a terrible night! Not that we got tossed around - it was a little rough, but not too bad. No, the door between our balony and the next one didn’t get locked properly after they cleaned the balconies and it swung loose. All night it banged against the chair and the door. FCD tried to secure it, but it was dark and rough and rainy. We’ll let our steward know when he gets here. I might have gotten 2 hours of sleep, maybe.

But we’re moored at Qaqortoq and the tenders are moving lots faster than yesterday, so we’ll go to town, if only to say we stepped on Greenland soil. It’s dreary and windy and rain is forecast, so it’ll be a quick stop.

We found out yesterday by bitter experience that the buffet closes at 10AM, so all we could get was a bagel. Today we’ll get there eariler. So far, that’s all our plans - breakfast and step on Greenland. Maybe buy a t-shirt. And probably nap.

Happy Wednesday!

I got all excited when I saw that it came in purple, but then I saw that purple wasn’t available.

Feeling ok this morning except for the general frustration of having to pay a ridiculous amount of money for the root canal. It was $1900 and my max dental benefits are $1000 for the year and I’d already had several things done. So, now when I get the crown done I’ll have to end up paying more out of pocket. Ugh.

Today I’m going to get a new tattoo with my birthday money from my mom. And meanwhile I’ll continue to obsess about the show and what I need to do to get ready.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is fucking boring. Let’s talk about all the things we can make with fucking kale.” Or, perhaps not.

Moooom sorry to hear you had a bad night, I hope the steward can get the balcony doors secured properly so you can have a peaceful nap later.

Sticky Buns I’m glad the dental appointment went better than expected, I hope you’re feeling better today!

I had a reasonable day yesterday, I was irking from home so some stuff got done and I had a meeting with one of my minions who has just been diagnosed with ADHD so we had a talk about how he’s dealing with that, and what we can do to help him. I sent my manager a brief round-up of what needs to be looked at while I’m off, and of course the one big thing I was waiting for arrived just as I was about to log off. Fortunately, she is able to deal with that for me and I have much more confidence in her abilities than the ADHD Squirrel in the same situation.

Dinner was leftover chilli that I pulled out of the fridge in the morning, laundry was done during the day, and there was some chillage too. I had a much better sleep as it was a lot cooler, and was up around 7.30am to feed the cats and tend to litter trays. I’m off work today, and tomorrow we are heading south for a music festival that starts on Friday afternoon. So today I’ll be grocery shopping as I need some stuff to take with us, also need to stock up on generic moggy kibble and make sure we have adequate treats. I also need to get petrol as the tank’s nearly empty but might do that tomorrow when we leave.

It’s pub day, I’m just waiting for my friends to get in touch to let me know if they’re ok to be out tonight, I need to email them anyway with instructions as they’re feeding the cats tomorrow evening (catsitters were fully booked and not able to add an extra visit to my booking).

I should probably run the rollsuck over the carpets on the stairs and landing but that’s going to be the extent of the cleaning today. Onwards!

Mornin’ all - Up a bit early at 0530 & now balconatin’ & caffinatin’ as the sky slowly lightens. Venus looking big and bright, and a line of puffy clouds a mile or three offshore. Almost too breezy to be comfy, but all else is sooo nice. NWS sez 81/27 on the way to 91/33 with scattered t-storms later.

Had finished my laundry activities yesterday, so ready for housekeepers today. Went out to a seafood place I’d heard of that proved to be scruffier than expected. Evidently more locally famous for being famous than actually famous for merit. Oh well.

But had a good set of raw oysters & a very cheap NZ Sauv Blanc then moved to a nicer white-tablecloth Italian place with a great happy hour for round 2: A big salsiccia w roasted peppers washed down with a couple good Amarones.

As to y’all:

Sensei: Hooray for raisin’ 'em up right! You’re obviously the best sort of Dad. Even if you do lose chargers now and again.

oopsie & JtC: Despite the vast choice of state plates on cars around here I gotta say Maryland drivers seem pretty rare. I have impression of what their plates even look like. The state has such a small population they can’t have much of a diaspora. But folks driving as if there are no other cars than their own are sure common regardless of plate.

As to ramadas and various regional terms: I think that thar in West Virginnie they might just a call it the “wood tent” but pronounced more like “wud tint”. So like the ceemint pond, but sticks up, not down.

Seriously, another vote that “pavilion” is the term from much of the Midwest, so that’s got some hope of being recognizable to your locals.

There are as many recipes as there are folks with knives in kitchens. Some are mostly onion, some are barely onion. But yeah, it’s easy for fresh sharp onions to overwhelm the flavor. IMO the stuff is tastier after it sits for a few hours.

Congrats on finding a good dentist / oral surgeon. Here’s to a speedy and complication-free recovery. During the soft food / chew gently phase of recovery it’s a great excuse to eat lots of ice cream. Even if you need to let it sit out to nearly room temp first. Just sayin’

There’s not a button somewhere inside the car that opens the trunk? Color me surprised if so. Or is that button broken on your car?

Sounds like the whole thing was an exercise in well-handled vexation. I have a few dollars parked in an envelope tucked in my car just for the occasions where I need to buy something and have forgotten my wallet or whatever. Also is a way to buy gas if away from home and my card or their reader are broken. Avoids the extra round trip to retrieve wallet / purse or worse yet, getting stranded someplace w no gas and no way to pay.

Yikes about your standoff. The closest I came to that scenario was while I was at the oyster place last night the paramedics, cops, and a firetruck noisily arrived at the Pubic sto’ in the same center. Seems to have been a medical event, not a criminal one. But all the noise & commotion did stop convo for awhile in the fish joint.

Great typo. I’ve heard of bear claws so named because they resemble, well, the foot & claws of a bear. I wonder what a cinnamon bum resembles? How do they make those?

As to me and today:

No clue whatsoever. Later today will need to knock out the laundry the housekeepers will soon create, but other than that and food and drink, there’s naught needs doin’, and all day to do it in.

Cheers and best fishes as Hump Day unfolds!

Mornin’ all.

It is 65°F and sunny. Yet more sunshine all day, and the expected high is 96°F. That’s just ridiculous. This will be the hottest day of the year, so far. I expect we’ll be working to keep the pups (and ourselves) cool.

Sticky, I’m glad the appointment went well. I understand the frustration with out-of-pocket costs.

I live 20 miles from a very large military installation, and there are several other military installations in this area as well. Therefore, we have many, MANY out-of-state plates cruising the area. As far as I’m concerned, many can’t drive to save their lives and do not seem to understand that the passing lane is for passing, not holding up traffic.

Frankly, there is just too much traffic here in my little corner of the PNW now, and I miss the clearer roads of the 70s and early 80s. We’ve now transitioned to timed entries at Mount Rainier National Park, and our hiking trails, including the wilderness areas, are overrun by Instagram Idiots who blast music and leave behind trash. Ugh. I used to be able to drive up to Mount Rainier and not run into crowds on less touristy trails. That’s no longer the case. The same goes for areas in the central and North Cascades, as well as the Olympic Mountains.

My beautiful state has become far too full of people.

Excuse the rant.

Alrighty, time for more coffee. I need to water the posies.

How cute that you think I am past that stage! Mine are 41, 37 and 34. I just hafta wait for them to respond because now they pay for their own phones and I have no leverage. Plus they have the grandbabies so I am at their mercy.

‘‘Tis true. You’ve not been ignored until a Siamese ignores you.

I feel your pain. My situation is the same and I have 4 (!!!) cracked teeth in my mouth now that my dentist says need crowns before they also need root canals. I’m having to to stare those teeth down, play dental chicken with them and hope I can do one when my new benefit year starts next January.

It’s like dentists live in a different world than most of us.

A third vote. Picnic shelter is the other common Midwestern term. In Iowa and Nebraska shelter is marginally more common but pavilion wouldd also always be understood.

I’m aware of the duck duck jeep but was recently introduced to moo moo Subaru by a random guy tapping on my Subaru in a parking lot down in Fl. That was bold of him and stupid on my part for rolling down my window but he offered a moo moo cow and a small pouch with stickers and his moms business card if I wanted to buy more moo moos.

I haven’t jumped in on the trend yet.

Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero search on eBay.

I see two with a purple crowns and a grey brim, one with a grey crown and a purple brim, two with Black crowns and purple brims… I’m just quickly scrolling. Check out the link, and you can find them, plus a bunch of other colours.

It’s more like dental insurers live in a different world.

Dental insurance is really more like a prepaid cleaning plan. Not too unlike vision insurance is a prepaid spectacles plan.

Both do offer some degree of financial help for bigger problems, but cap out waayyy early compared to any serious need for care. Of course the fact a LOT of dentists and dental work is both functional and cosmetic gives the insurers a very legit reason to limit coverage.

e.g. my MetLife dental coverage is $80/quarter or $320/year. They can’t make money if they’re handing out $10K of repairs every year. Especially not from oldsters whose teeth are generally hitting end-of-life before their person is.

Of course said the other way, if the insurance did have an e.g. $10K annual max, the premiums would be a good deal bigger than $320/year.

But boy howdy do I understand the frustration.

Morning all. Slept until 7am so should have sufficient rest to do very little today. It’s 85F already at 9am and heading to 94F so will head out of doors only if necessary. Nothing much on the agenda anyways, did most of my stuff yesterday and shopping isn’t till Friday, so taking it easy sounds like a plan. Do need to get the garbage and recycle bins out to the curb tonight.

Cupcakes, hope the experiment pays off for your hands and knitting.

red, glad the fobs are back in operation.

FCM, surprised you didn’t try to contact Guest Services during the night, they surely could have gotten someone up there to fix it for you, I would think. Enjoy our prospective 51st state!

flyboy, enjoy the Sombero.

boo fae, happy shopping day.

That…is something I have never thought of but on hearing it is not a bad idea…may do that thing.

Taters, that’s the curse in living somewhere great, pretty soon everyone wants too live there too.

Been lucky with the dentist, only checkups for the past 6-7 years, but the day will be coming and I’ll probably have the same issues as Sticky Buns, Pilot, and BBBoo.

And need to finish my morning internetting and then provide my body some sustenance. Take care all.

ack! the dreaded buns/bums embarrassment.

the 7 days of eye drops made it very easy to keep track of restriction time.

today being day 8, restrictions are lifted, and the first thing i do is accidently squirt water in my eye, clearing and rinsing the kitchen sink this morning. oy!

thankfully it was the eye that was done 3 weeks ago, not the recent one. i remembered to take the maple syrup and marmalade to the office today.

i have no prescription glasses at all now. i donated the last pair yest.. i reckon i may get some sort of prescription when i have my next appt. in august. like jtc i’m looking forward to getting frames that i ordinarily would not be able to have. i always wanted wireframes and due to the prescription i couldn’t get them.

we are in the tropics in philly. the humidity is higher than the temperature and the lanternflies are out in force. the building where we do the office deposit is a hang out spot for them. on monday i saw one, today, they were out in force! they were lining the side of the building.

that building is rather odd. the management is not concerned with keeping the building tidy. the building i’m in has constant tidying. they patrol the pavements and sweep and wipe the lobbies. as near to spotless as it can be. the building next door… oy! in the lobby there were dead and live laternfles. it is a gauntlet walking on the pavement and lobby. just not well maintained. nothing gets done there unless there is an incident.

Yeah? Well, they need to get off my lawn and mountains! :shakesfistgrannystyle:

Just got done perusing and mocking real estate. Time to go.

I don’t miss my real teeth. I had a lot of dental problems. Now if I have an issue I can drop them off to be repaired and pick them up later
