They still have those, but the ones that are more recommended are single drum units. Essentially, they’re like a regular washer, but scaled down with the hose setup you described. The dryers come in either units that have their own ventilation or ones that you can vent out a window or buy an add on vent kit. Looking at YT and CR, Black and Decker models have good rating. I can get a pair for ~$600 delivered to my door. Truly, for the first time, I will go for new. Marketplace wouldn’t be of much use to me at this point in the game and I really don’t want to go without for very long once I move.
Race preparation day here. Today and tomorrow, then the races start the next day.
As the designated interpreter, then I get a lot of complaints from both sides. Actually, everything has been reasonable so far, but impossible things are impossible.
Part of my job entails, trying to understand why the requests are being made so that the other side can work around them. Races are conducted much differently in Japan than they are in the rest of the world so the Japanese side has one way of doing it in the world side wants something else.
Fortunately, people have been cooperative, although there are some things that just cannot be compromised.
SenGirl is volunteering as well, and everyone says what a sweet, hardworking girl she is. I presume she’s been possessed because it’s not the same person as at home. ha
Oh, and heavy rain today. Makes for an interesting event.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I wonder what TVCTPMO has in store for me today?

“I could have just been tortured and executed by Dad, but instead I’m being crushed with Farmer Ted, a second rate weed smuggler, and his overly aggressive Irish Setter.” - Princess Leia
Expect the unexpected.
Except for Ohio. A state so bad it’s over-represented in NASA, as the residents are compelled to leave the Earth.
I like!
Pilot - it’s not just Midwestern water. When we lived in Jax, FCD had some minions in Baker County (just west of Jax) who had never left the county and never intended to. Literally - they’d never even seen the Atlantic, and one guy threatened to quit if they made him travel for training.
Heck, my own sibs have always lived in the Baltimore Metro area. They’ve traveled, but refused any job opportunity that required relocation. I’m the only one who dared to live elsewhere. Tho now, I ain’t moving!
The threatened wild night ride apparently didn’t happen. I fell asleep pretty early, woke once to use the facilities, the slept tilly “take meds” alarm went off. It’s a wee bit bumpy this morning but nothing outrageous. First of 2 days at sea and we move our clocks ahead tonight as we continue east.
My big plan today is a garment inventory. With just over a week left, we can start packing dirties in our suitcases. No more rinsing unders in the sink! Of course, my first day home will be all laundry, all the time.
There are a couple of lectures I want to attend this afternoon, but mostly, chillage shall reign. I hope.
Happy Thursday
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 90 with maybe rain later today. I have a doc and vampire appt. at eight-thirty this mornin’. Hopefully I will be outta there within the hour. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS Inactivities. Sup will be steak ‘n shrimpies, scalloped N.O.T., sallit and garlic bread sticks.
Now I need more caffeine. Can’t feed rumbly tummy until after the vampire takes blood. There will be a McBreakfast soon after. Also need to purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. This is two days in a row for that. How awful!
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/70f with a predicted high of 25c/76f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Don’t you just fucking love the predictable greyness of everything? I fucking don’t.” I don’t mind it today, I have a 3-4hr drive so grey suits me fine. Also, there’s a predicted high of 26c/78f where we’re going, and a thunderstorm warning from today until late Saturday night.
Sticky Buns Love the new ink! What a positive message to yourself.
Red fingers crossed for the new place working out. I hope you can find a suitable alternative to having your own w/d hookup, and a portable unit works for you.
Pilot good to hear that GF is making progress with all her stuff and you’ll be reunited soon. Try not to wear her out, 'kay?
Cookie Sadie sounds like she might just be suffering from weather. My mogs are somewhat lethargic and not always interested in food when it’s hot and humid. They make up for it when the temperatures cool down a bit.
I went to the pub with my friends last night, it was pleasant enough to be outside all evening and I was home in bed just before midnight. Had a decent sleep and was woken up by both Cherry and Blossom stomping over the bed to tell me it was time for breakfast. I had to get up and do that, then cleaned the litter trays and had a cuppa before my shower. I’m washed, my hair’s dried, I’ve done some ironing and packed my stuff for the weekend. All I need to do now is make some food for us, give the cats their lunch, do a final tidy up of litter trays, empty the bins and load up the car. Quick stop at the cash machine once we’re on the move, and then we head south for a weekend of excellent music in a very nice park which will be fun.
Better get moving, I have things to do!
Mornin’ all - Gray and damp with intermittent dramatic breaks in the clouds. But nice and warm.
Sleeping was good and wonder of wonders GF had also gone to bed at a similar time so we awoke at almost the same time and had dueling good morning txts.
Need to shevel soon, then meet my former housemate for breakfast.
Terminology question: My “housemate” was actually a guy / friend of a friend who owned the house and rented me a room for 3+ months. He’s not normally in the biz of renting rooms, but has a long habit of taking in strays temporarily, be they 2- or 4-footed, be they friend or family or just well-recommended stranger. It worked well for both of us.
Anyhow what to call our connection during that arrangement? “Landlord and tenant” sounds waay too formal to describe that arrangement, but “housemate” sounds way too egalitarian. What’s a good word for that?
But nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!
Good to hear that FCM didn’t get rolled out of bed.
Funny how that works. Most days I diddledawdle around the house in the morning and finally eat breakfast between 10 and 11. On blood draw days (~4x/yr) I schedule the appointment for as close to their 0700 opening as possible to avoid the crowds. I’m usually in and out by 0730.
And am utterly famished, famished I say!, as I head to the nearby better-than-Denny’s for my morning feed. One that gets scarfed in record time. Brains be weird. Or at least mine is.
Boofae, you’re no sooner back from Belgium than off for a weekend of music. That is such a cool life you have. Go you!!
I’d love to have a life so full of activity. But that’d interfere w slothing. But mostly that’d require somebody available full time to do it all with. Here’s hoping.
Shevelment beckons … Cheers all!
Well, poo! I was looking for a vacant place to sit on decks 9, 10, and 12. Unless I want to sit at a table (ick) so I’m back in our room. I swear, the entirety of the Japanese passengers take over all the deck 10 seating and lounges and both ping pong tables. So unless I stake my claim before dawn on a sea day, I need to find another place for a quiet seat. Wonder if the library has comfy seats… and where the library is…
It’s a cool, sunny day but too cool to sit outside. Stoopit sea days.
Yeah, first world problems. And I’m not anti-Japanese - it was just an observation. Along with the number of Aussies on this trip. I didn’t expect so many folks from the other side of the world.
Morning all. Up about 6am for pill-taking and micturation, now waiting the prescribed time before my big bowl O’Cereal. Made two big payments (one for credit card, one for savings deposit), so checking account is much depleted. Need to stop by Target today my griddle has given up the ghost so it is out in the garbage and I need to acquire an new one. Another hot one (94F is the predicted high), so lots of time indoors I think.
Pilot, I’m from around Akron, my parents never lived (outside of a couple years in Indiana) more than 30 miles from where they were born; OTOH, both brother and I have moved hundreds (and for a few years, thousands) of miles from home. Guess it depends on your job in most cases; if you’ve been doing the same thing in one locale all your life, the inertia is great. As for your stay with your friend, ‘roomie’ or ‘temp roomies’ may work, but will be interested if others come up with a better term.
Sensei, been there for soccer tournaments (no interpreter needed, except for deep southern accents…) and yeah, everyone tends to do things their way and occasionally think that is the only way. Glad folks are being reasonable, especially SenGirl…
FCM, enjoy cruising along today. And hope you can find a seat.
swampy, hope the vampire visit is relatively easy and the breakfast is good.
boo fae, safe drive and enjoy the music.
And in-between typing I’ve finished my cereal and apple so ready to face the new day. Take care all.
MetalMouse - speaking of soccer, I vaguely recall reading something about heading the ball being forbidden in certain age groups. Is that accurate or did I imagine what I heard?
We ended up at a table near the buffet because the library didn’t have tables and the bars just had low cocktail tables. FCD wanted to work on his laptop, so here we are. Just in time for lunch…
Good morning.
It’s 60°F and sunny outside. The sunshine will continue throughout the day, with an expected high temperature of 90°F. We did in fact reach 96 degrees yesterday, which is too dang hot for me.
Yesterday, we cut down two ginormous arborvitae bushes, and today we’ll cut the final one down. We’ll have to rent a trailer or truck to haul the debris away, because my bin is full. It’s made a huge difference for the front porch, but on the other hand, I’ve lost a sense of privacy at the front. The one shrub did a good job of hiding the fact there were packages on my porch.
I plan to put up tall planter boxes to fix that issue. Maybe something like this: [Tall planter] (Amazon.com : Toriexon Metal Planter 36” x 12” x 24”, Heavy Duty Tall Rectangle Planter Box with Removable Insert Shelves for Porch, Garden, Patio, Yard : Patio, Lawn & Garden) One at least.
The roofing company has to come back today to take more pictures, which is…odd, but okay. The rep plans to arrive between 9:00 and 10:00. I think this guy is the work crew lead, actually. Anyway, I hope they’re not trying to get more money out of us. We’ll see.
Besides chopping down the huge shrub and lopping off branches for the neighbor’s overhanging trees, I don’t have much else on the agenda. Maybe some other minor chores, and probably giving the at least the potted posies a drink since it was so hot yesterday and will be hot again today. I gave all the plants a deep drink yesterday morning, so we shall see. Those in pots will definitely need another drink.
Okay, on with the day.
Actually, housemate pretty much has it covered.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll get sheveled and take some electronics to Staples for recycling.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
“The guy who owns the house.” I believe is the legal term.
The problem with large events is that there are so many things that can and will go wrong.
Because I’m the one Western person on the Japanese side, everyone wants to complain to me, expecting I’ll be more sympathetic to them.
Ain’t going to happen. Not my fault you didn’t (follow procedures). I’m good at smiling, nodding and saying I understand but we aren’t changing the rules.
The Japanese side is making more than its share of mistakes so who does everyone come to?
It poured today. Fortunately today was a prep day but damn it was coming down.
It looks like we’ll have better weather the rest of the time.
Can’t speak for all leagues, but in the one I participate in (American Youth Soccer Organization or AYSO), heading is not allow until after U12’s, so a player will be at least 12 years old before they can head the ball. And happy Buffeting!!
Happy yardwork, Taters.
Stay dry (and calm) Sensei
Shopping and Banking are done, so will ease into the afternoon. Already 87F at 10:15am…
One more buffet item of interest (as if anything is more interesting than stale popcorn garnish) comes from the cookie shelf. Nothing noteworthy about the oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip cookies. But, I ask you, wouldn’t you expect macadamia cookies to have nuts in them? Not here. They have white chocolate chips. They’re tasty, but not macadamia…
The afternoon presentations are done. FCD is snoozing. I may go in search of a vacated lounge chair.
Ok, stoopit autocorrect decided that instead of “I may go in” that I wanted “imagine”. I think my autocorrupt is drunk. OK, off to find a seat.

First things first: Lego pictures!
I finished the Star Wars trash compactor diorama last night:

The fact that the walls move makes me unreasonably happy.
I also love the little scene on the back:

Last but not least, here’s a shot of the Keith Haring Dancing Figures on display:

Not much else is going on with me. Despite being happy with my new desk at the office, I’m very glad to be working from home today (and tomorrow). Not least because it’s a scorcher: it’s currently sunny and 90°F with a heat index of 101, and it’ll get a few degrees hotter before topping out. An excellent day to stay inside with the blinds drawn and front door closed (much to Bailey’s dismay) against the sun.
I have a proposal-related meeting at 3pm; we’re getting the results of yesterday’s final review. The proposal manager has already reached out to me, and I agreed to handle the updates for all five resumes – partly because I’m a masochist, but largely because most of the reviewer feedback is just saying that the resumes need a “one voice” edit. All of the heavy lifting (i.e., interviewing) is done, I enjoy editing, and I agree that at this point the resumes could benefit from just one person making the finishing touches. Plus, the masochist thing. I’ll also need to confirm some clearance info with our security folks, and standardize how we caculate the elapsed time between dates. I have until Monday night, but I’m hoping to get everything done before COB tomorrow.
That’s awesome!
OMG I need to remember “waste disposal units”!!
I’m the same: whenever I have a long drive, cloudy-but-not-dark conditions are ideal. Visibility is good, but there’s no need to break out sunglasses (which make it harder to see displays) or turn on/crank the car’s air conditioning.
This.
“Housemate” carries no connotations about ownership, how the rent is split, etc. It’s simply an alternative to “roommate,” which honestly could also apply – but, to me, implies sharing an apartment (or dorm). When you’re platonically sharing a townhouse or single-family home with someone, you’re housemates. Simple as that. The details would be a separate conversation.

wouldn’t you expect macadamia cookies to have nuts in them? Not here. They have white chocolate chips.
I would definitely expect white chocolate chips…but, yes, also bits of macadamia nuts!
Late yesterday my left eye got light sensitive. This morning it felt swollen and a bit painful near the eyebrow side.
Put a call in to the eye doctor and headed to wills eye. Dr. called while I was on the way and told me where to get seen. Today was my original surgery date, so I knew he would be in surgery. He called ahead and I was seen right away.
Eye is a bit upset, healed well, and the vision is improved since a week ago. Back to eye drops for another week, then back for a check. Just a blip. They said it should feel better after a few rounds of drops.
I grabbed breakfast and came home, applied eye drop, and a cat (lap, not eye). Going with dimmed lighting today.
They didn’t seem very worried, so neither am I. I’m going to enjoy my day at home.
I’m making roast beef for dinner (top round). It’s just over two pounds, so after 15 minutes of searing at 450ºF, it should only take an hour after I turn the oven down to 325ºF to make it come out rare. Here’s the problem…
We’re looking at a high of 76º Ferret Height today. Not bad after the last couple of days, but still what we consider ‘warm’. SWMBO doesn’t want me to heat up the house with the oven. So she ‘suggested’ I cook it ‘before noon’ and we can heat it up for dinner. Not really thrilled by that, but She Must Be Obeyed. At least I can cook early and not have to cook later.
Not much to report here.
Oh @LSLGuy thank you for the advice and info, it was very helpful and I am in possession of my property again.
Otherwise, just workin’ my tail off, and trying - and failing - to keep up with housework.
I ordered a buncha stuff off Da Jungle and have been inundated with boxes.
Monkey likes playing in them; that’s my excuse for the mess. Yeah, that’s it.
I have been having a rather blah / uggh day for reasons that aren’t worth the keystrokes.

Oh @LSLGuy thank you for the advice and info, it was very helpful and I am in possession of my property again.
But this bit totally made my day and now it’s the best day of my week. Hooray for you!!!
