(Old) Get To the Chopper! A Bastille Day MMP

I’ve been having some light issues as well. I understand it is normal, our optic nerves haven’t been exposed to that much light in decades and our brains get overstimulated at times. No swelling though, and it hasn’t happened for a while, so hopefully your light problems will go away soon too.

Sticky, I love your new ink, it is so uplifting!

I can always tell the homes where cats live. There is always at least one box on the floor!

That is SO cute!

If you were to look at the ingredients, you would learn that some cookie makers think that ground macadamia nuts add enough flavor that they don’t have to put in the lovely chunks we all adore.

So, I’ve read all…Doggio, back when I was in Okinawa in the early 70’s, Coke-hai was an extremely popular drink. Pepsi wasn’t as popular but because I kinda consider them to be the same, no it isn’t at all jarring to hear them ordered in Asian restaurants.

I’m not on for long, we are both worn out. Yesterday, Ronald (widower of cousin) called to tell Hubs that cousin had passed away. Ronald cannot drive and hubs heard traffic noises and asked Ronald where he was.

Ronald chased all of the family away a couple of days ago. He said he wanted some time alone to grieve and process. Before leaving, Gina (fellow pothead) double checked to be sure that he didn’t need anything at the store and he was positive he was fine.

Well, apparently this morning, Ronald thought he needed a few things and would walk to the store. Or their dog got out and he went after her, we still aren’t sure what happened, but we knew that he needed to be taken home.

Ronald didn’t know where he was and refused to call the police, so Hubs convinced him to knock on a door and ask whoever answered to talk to hubs. Happily the door opened and the woman who lived there was willing to talk to Hubs. He gave her the cliffnotes, asked that Ronald be allowed to sit on her porch until we got there and got her address.

Everything was settled until Hubs told her that we were a few hours away and asked if she could give Ronald some water while he waited and she thought that leaving a confused old man on her porch on such a hot day was the worse idea in the world, so she got Ronald’s address from Hubs and took him home.

We still needed to go and check up on Ronald so we could give his daughters an informed update, but weren’t as stressed when Ronald got home. Dog was in the yard with the gate closed.

I booked a room and called the neighbor to ask if her daughter could feed the fuzzbutts. Daughter sounded pretty happy to be making twenty bucks for opening a can and agreed to give them breakfast as well.

After we got Ronald settled (he had the things he could eat, he wanted to get some cream because his wife always wanted cream with her morning coffee), I took Hubs to our room and went to a farm stand I saw on our way and bought half a dozen ears of corn, some yellow tomatoes and pint of blueberries and a small rosemary plant, then went to the dollar store and bought a decorative serving bowl, tissue paper and a bow. I arranged the food into a gift basket, put a ribbon on it and took it to the nice lady who saved the day.

Of course she told me that “you didn’t need to do this!” and I agreed, but said I wanted to thank her for being so kind, and all of those words were said.

Hubs had all of the daughters in the loop and they were making plans (they had noticed that he wasn’t doing well, but had put it down to the stress and heartache). We watched some TV with Ronald - I had no idea that painting guy was still around - and then went to our room.

Today we checked in with Ronald again, he seemed to be doing better now that he had rested and one of the daughters (from Virginia) would be there by lunch, so we headed home.

Hubs wanted to take the scenic route and we stopped at The Secret Sandwich Society for lunch. The food was good (not great) the service was excellent and the drinks were tasty. (I had the Field Notes and he had the Birds of a Feather)

When next we are in the area, we will go the place with the best evah white garlic pizza instead. We stopped at the Kanawa Falls and listened to the water for a while and then came home. While we were following the river, I remembered shoe suggesting I buy some bait worms so we stopped at a convenience store and bought some very lucky nightcrawlers.

The worms are in the raised bed, the fuzzbutts have been fed and its time for me to go to head out to the shop and stitch. TTYL

Howdy Y’all! Doc and vampire went well. It was also pee in a cup time. I get to do that once a year. I went to BK cause it’s the closest thing to the office and snarfed down a bacon, aig and cheese croissant, hash rounds, and washed it down with a Diet Coke. Then it was back to da cave to take meds (won’t take ‘em on an empty tummy), get comfy and commence epic level RDOS sloth. We napped, day drank (watched a mahoosive rain on the back porch), and sup got fixed and et. Now I want rocky road ice cream. Good thing we have some.

Pilot housemate seems perfectly fine to me.

JtC Ronald, and a good many other folks, are so very lucky to have hubs and you around. Glad he’s doin’ OK and that daughter is there with him now.

Sorry, not a mumper [officially - I don’t know the secret handshake] - but come on, shouldn’t that be, “Get to de choppa” ?

Please, we’re a very sophistimacated bunch and wouldn’t dream of failing to enunciate properly. But welcome!

Today, we’re cleaning for a family visit that will last almost a week. Tomorrow I’ll achieve mowage (probably). Off to Whole Foods soon to re-establish our vegetable and fruit population.

Those look like fun!

Yay!

JtC, I’m glad that you got Ronald settled and that his daughter will be with him. He lucked out at the house that he went to for help.

I found out this afternoon that one of my neighbors in the next building was killed a couple of days ago. He’s struggled with addiction for a long time. He had gotten clean and started a decent job a couple of months ago, then didn’t show for about a week. A couple of days ago, he was shot while trying to rob a drug dealer. I only knew him to say hi and to let Nelson and his boxers, Faith and Gracie sniff butts, but will drop a card off for his wife tomorrow. For all of his struggles, he was a good doggy daddy.

Sis talked to her friend who lives in the neighborhood of the apartment that I’m getting serious about and she loves the area. We also talked about how to set up the portable W/D. Gotta love a BIL who is a maintenance supe and loves to play with power tools. Once I get the set, he’s going to mount the washer on a dolly and build a custom table that will fit it underneath and the dryer on top. She will go to get better video and some still pics tomorrow. I’m starting to get excited. As soon as I get a lease, I’ll talk to the movers (I have two companies who are competing for a bid) and set things in motion. Shit’s gettin’ real!

That is so kind of you to say. Ronald is family and a very good man. He’s also a stubborn old man who won’t even consider letting one of his daughters move in with him.

That lady was the real star of the show! Folks here are usually kind, but many of them work and if she had not answered, I don’t think Ronald would have tried a different door. He was badly rattled by that time. Virginia daughter will be moving somewhere close, she is going to be starting her rental search tonight.

I’m glad yours is looking so hopeful. Does it come with a small yard? Is there a dog park somewhere close?

I really do hope it all works out even better than you are hoping!

God dammit Jane that story of Ronald is terrifying. Thank you for your part in helping the poor dude.

Congrats to @missred for the help & progress. It takes a village.

My day has been difficult is several directions but nothing worthy of mention compared to the challenges of the folks upthread.

And a good early evening all. Spent way to much time at the gym, most of the treadmills and bikes have TV’s so I was watching a woman’s soccer game (Sweden vs. England) that went into overtime and then penalty kicks, so I had to keep exercising so I could watch till the end. Totaled 1,500 calories burned, so should sleep good tonight. Have put about half those calories back on since I got home, more will be added later.

JtC, so many things could have gone wrong for Ronald, glad that you and hubs were there and that lady was so understanding and nice about it.

red, sounds like the big move is almost a go, hope everything works out as planned.
and sorry about the neighbor news, sounds like he needed help he either didn’t know how to get or refused to get it. Tragic.

Oopsie, nice pictures. Enjoy editing.

Just googled it out of curiosity and it brings up garbage disposals, which I guess is reasonable.

rocky, hope the eye settles down soon. Listen to JtC, sounds like she’s been there.

No problems, Cool Hand, it’s so secret nobody uses it.

And off to watch some TeeVee and probably grab a few more calories.

Aha! Cool Hand, you’ve been christened by metal mouse with a Mumper name. That makes you a Mumper for sure! Congratulations on passing the rigorous entry exam!

I was gonna go with Luke just cuz it’s shorter, and I’m lazy.

Getting really tired of the 90-ish degree weather here. I’m in upstate NY, it isn’t supposed to be like this for 2+ weeks on end. And no wind. I built a prototype of a wind harp, and we haven’t had any wind, except for near tornados, in weeks. I dunno if it works.

Good news, I actually have AC in my car for the first time in many years. My old, lamented Tacoma’s AC died during the pandemic. I miss having a truck, but I do like AC and an automatic transmission.

JtC Glad you and stranger lady were able to help Ronald.

Doctor was correct, things have settled a bit. I’m sure they will continue to improve.

I hope things get better for Ronald. Such a difficult time.

There are grill and picnic areas in the yard and a dog park near by, so Nelson should be able to make some new friends.

Do you find yourself still going for the clutch once in a while?

That’s sounding better and better!

That is certainly a problem I’ve never had. Do you have any pics you can share, us Mumpers would probably be very long winded while discussing your lack of wind issues.

You just didn’t hear me worrying about it because I had already called the doctor or knew from my past life when I worked in an eye surgury clinic.

It really is. His back gate leads right into the forest, if he had gone that way instead of towards the road, things would have gone so much worse.

Dementia steals everything a person has and can often do it unnoticed because their partner just learns to adjust and doesn’t complain.

Dad didn’t know who I was at the end. He called Mom “the woman with the car”. None of the neighbors knew, he was just a quiet old man who waved and said Hi if they were outside at the same time.

It looks like Ronald needs more support than his daughters thought, but they are all busy making plans now. They know they can count on us, but also know that we are hours away.

Happily, finding a place for his daughter to rent will be easier than finding a place in Houston. There’s a comp’ny house for sale a block over. It has a fenced yard (Gina has a small dawg) and also has a mobility ramp and the bathroom has been updated with mobility aids as well.

More people leave WV than move in, housing is dirt cheap compared to the rest of the country so it is a buyer’s market.

You are so right, things could have gone south at any moment. I was really proud of hubs when he had the idea to ask Ronald to describe the houses and tell him to go to the one with the flowers on the porch.

And welcome Luke! It’s great to have you here. While we don’t have a secret handshake, there is a goat around here somewhere. Want us to feed him up for ya?

Someone posted a picture of Pat Priest posing in front of the Munster Koach (Farcebook image, so I’m not linking). Now I feel the urge to find my The Munsters boxed set of DVDs.

I bought a 2.12-pound top round roast from the BIBIR bin a while back. After thawing for several days, I made it for dinner tonight. (I made it on my lunch break, put it in the fridge after it cooled, and the put it in the oven to warm up until Wifey. RN got home.) Well… It wasn’t prime rib (which I usually cook). It didn’t have as much flavour as chuck roast. And it was not as tender as PR or chuck. But it was still good, and nicely rare. I made creamed spinach with creamed cheese and feta. I gave Goo her tribute.

GF just had dinner w 92yo dad & 90ish stepmom. Dad mostly knew who she was.

Such a cruel way to exit this world.

JtC I’m sorry for all of you and yours.

A cut which almost always promises more than it delivers.

Congrats on a successful outcome despite timing challenges.

I didn’t expect much.

Evening all. Late night final time, all my exercising is catching up with me so a early bedtime is expected. I did manage to finish the Sunday NY Times reading so I’ll be ready for next week’s issue (still have about 8-10 words to solve in the crossword). Need to make up the Firday shopping list and get the digital coupons clicked, but that will be my last constructive act of the day.

I’m good with Luke, just was being a little creative.

VanGo, glad you have AC, I remember summers in the 1950’s/60’s with AC in the car and it was not fun.

red, the place is sounding better and better.

I know and it scares me more than most anything. I’m hoping I take after my Mom’s side of the family (my hairline does), many lived well into their 80’s and while they had health problems they did stay lucid until right near the end.

And heading to 10pm here, so need to finish up and head off to slumberland. Catch y’all tomorrow.

So the other clerk is on vacation for two weeks, and that leaves me as the only damage clerk on Preload. So naturally, TPTB put me on the sort table, then pulling cages for the sort. Oh, and somebody ran into our last Next Day Air truck on the way from the airport, so that didn’t go out today. Plus heavy volume, heavy damages, including a 118lbs. iron monstrosity that needed reboxing, so I got out at noon. I did my Senior Day shopping. But it being Senior Day, noon-ish, and a quarter of the parking lot being repaved, so I was parked closer to home that the Teeter. So a short nap today. Pizza tonight < waves at shoe >, since the oven is still down.

Well for the Left hemisphere, Scandinavia is “exotic” culture. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Cool!

Good. We don’t need to raise possible bail money, do we?

Yup, and I find myself going the wrong way to get into reverse too. 20 years is one vehicle puts in a lot of muscle memory. Still occasionally reach for the shifter when going around a corner too.
