We’re the opposite. FCD has minimal sense of direction. I try to have at least a general idea of where we are and where we’re going. Even in this county where we’ve lived for 21 years, I have a really good feel for where roads lead and how to get around traffic jams/accidents/whatever with minimal bother. He, on the other hand, will just sit and wait for the mess to clear if he’s alone. I guess it’s my superpower!
The corn was pretty good, tho I had to toss one ear - when I pulled back the husks, a number of the kernels were brownish, and they were spread throughout. Had they just been on the end, I’d have cut it off. The chickie/grape/apple/pecan salad was mega-yum. I could have eaten 4 times as much as I did. But I’m making a concerted effort to shed the cruise pounds and continue where I left off before vacation. So just one serving for me. Dammit.
It’s clouded over and I heard some rumbles in the distance. They’re not calling for the scary high winds - just a chance of a lot of rain in places. So minimal chances of power loss. Chillage shall continue till bedtime.
The heat advisory expired last night, but now we have a flood watch until 0800 tomorrow. Currently 81 ferrets/27 centipedes, heat index 88/31, predicted high 84/29. 70% chance of rain, but haven’t seen any yet.
Got hearing aids shortly before I retired from the Navy, but quit wearing them – there was something about my daughter’s voice that made them buzz loudly. That was twenty years ago, and I could really use them, but I haven’t seen them since we moved a few years later. Need to call Medical and see if I can get a free set from the Navy. (When I first retired I could have my eyes checked on base and get two free pair of glasses every year, but that’s been changed to just one pair and I have to get a new script from a doctor out in town first.)
Took a nap, but forgot to hit “Reply” first. Oops. Now there are almost thirty posts to read, instead of the few that I hadn’t gotten to before deciding I needed the nap.
I have plenty of morning glories you could practice on…
Make sure you copy-and-paste the URL for the picture, not for the album it’s filed in.
Still no sign of the “heavy rain” we’re supposed to be getting.
I’m not eligible for TriCare and, although eligible in principle for VA, I’m in VA priority group 8. They only have funding to provide care to groups 1-4.
Disgraceful. Not because I’m not covered; I don’t need it. But because millions of vets who do need it don’t / can’t get it. Because, despite all the flag-waving, America’s government and America’s people are too cheap to prioritize veterans’ issues.
Howdy Y’all! Well, we did not venture out today. It was nice out and TWPTB say we are in for several days of rain, so we decided to have some quality cee-mint pond time that included some mornin’ time day drinkin’ just cause we could. Then we showered and achieved nappage. We et the rest of the rotisserie chikin along with sallit for sup. We’ll do Eggs Up, candle duty and a trip to a produce market a few miles up the road from the church house tomorrow. Folks have bragged on the quality of the produce there so we shall see for ourselves.
Yeah, dried herbs weigh next to nothing. You can be making Italian or Provencal dressings for a while with that.
Mais non! You just think you got rid of the kudzu.
I got a few things accomplished today, including a run to the grocery outlet for microwaveable / cold stuff groceries. Likely the only groceries that I’ll need to pick up before moving are milk for coffee and tortillas.
That sounds awesome! A negroni is a fine accompaniment to good fish. Rockfish is rare down here; I miss it.
My main was a pan roasted duck breast on a bed of browned butter carrot + mushroom puree(¡incredible!) with garlic roast new potatoes & Brussels sprouts (good). Stupid good overall.
And a nice California Cab.
Contemplating dessert soon.
[Narrator: … time passes …]
Dessert shall be a creme brulee and an espresso liqueur.
I did have the rockfish ‘sandwich’ (no bun), with salad instead of fries. The Spousal Unit had pan-seared halibut on pork belly, snap peas, and strawberries. She had Hemingway daiquiris, and I had negronis. And she paid. (She said, ‘Since I ordered a $34 meal…’ The rockfish was $18.)
The rockfish had Cajun seasoning. I have Cajun seasoning! Maybe I made it a little on the hotter side, but still… There was a simple sauce made from yoghurt and fresh dill. Very nice.
Bay Breeze is a nice place, and it’s the only structure on the water. Maybe it’s just because we eat early, but it’s never crowded. We noticed CJ’s Beach House looked packed. As much as I like the fish tacos at the Mexican place, I really like Bay Breeze’s rockfish. (Also, their house-made Caesar dressing has actual anchovy filets in it.)
Isn’t it great that you two found each other? We never got lost when Hubs was in charge of directions, even in the bad old days of paper road maps. (I do miss them, it was really handy to be able to buy one at gas stations because the ones in our glove boxes were almost always out of date.)
I looked at corn today and it wasn’t nearly as nice as the stuff we bought a few days ago, but tomorrow we will be going to Madison for my hi-tech not-boob squishing and I hope to get some nice produce there. I was expecting to go alone, I’ve never needed hand-holding for a boob squishing, but Hubs thinks he wants to come with so we can go to supper at our second fav Mexican place.
None of which got poked with bare hands! (Honestly, the maggots looked really happy at the sudden infusion of oxygen and were kinda cute in their own way.)
We got rebates and bragging rights for them back in the desert. Our last place only had a rain water reclamation system with just one holding tank, but our other places had the grey water directed into a set of three settling and filtering systems. This was partly because I’ve always been a tree hugger and partly because I wanted flowers and trees and Hubs bitched about the water bill every summer.
We are currently under a flood watch. No rain so far but the night is young.
ARGGHHHH!!!
Hubs got his hearing aids from the VA and he really likes them. He can hear all of his tech toys through them instead of being required to wear headphones while killing monsters. He can also turn them off when I’m bitching about hornworms (another annoying squishy thing) on my tomatoes.
Wise bears always trust but verify.
See…the thing is…it is green and it is growing and sometimes has pretty flowers. Plus, it does it all for free, no effort or watering involved. It’s going to take a long time for me to learn the proper mindset to live where the plants want to take over my yard an house. And this is despite me seeing semi-truck fenders under the kudzu in places.
(Here’s hoping the drivers didn’t oversleep.)
So, counting the days until the move. Such a strange way to live, it’s still your home, but it isn’t and everything is unsettled and habits are all out of wack. I hope Nelson stops trying to eat his belly once he’s settled and has his things again.
We paid far too much to move GG’s ratty old kitty tree, but it was worth it to see him relax once he had it again.
The last paper map that I got came with a tourism package of Texas a few years ago. I eventually cut it up for use on cards featuring cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Rocky Raccoon, Nelson’s lovey will travel in the car with us.
How long do you think the drive will be? I made WV from AZ in four days, but I didn’t need to stop and walk GG on a regular basis and you can drive after dark.
And because something is also flaky with the IM’s @BippityBoppityBoo Thank you so very much for the very adorable baskets. The small Amish basket is too big for my harvest, but the Dorothy (wiz of oz) basket is too small for GG no matter how often he tries! I keep trying to get a pic of his struggles, but you know how cats and cameras can be.
It’s apple butter season, is that something you would like on your morning toast? I’m also experimenting with fruit (cranberries or cherries) in spiced rum and could use a guinea pig if that’s the sort of thing that might rock your boat.
Less than 2,000 miles. It would take me two days. (FWIW, I’ve driven the 1,200 miles from L.A. to Bellingham, WA in as few as 19 hours. Usually 20 hours.)
[lookee pilot, I used your superb tech advice and toggled over to M with the down arrow thingy and it worked!! You are a IT problem solving tutoring the tech peasants rock star! Thank you.]
