(Old) Getting back into your groove in the MMP

The aspirin is for the achy bones, smarty pants.

That’s clever, but it reads kind of masculine.

You’re not the first to think the name derives from “Chaim”, but it doesn’t. It’s from Lewis Carroll.

From The Hunting of the Snark: This also seems a fitting occasion to notice the other hard words in that poem. Humpty-Dumpty’s theory, of two meanings packed into one word like a portmanteau, seems to me the right explanation for all.

For instance, take the two words “fuming” and “furious.” Make up your mind that you will say both words, but leave it unsettled which you will first. Now open your mouth and speak. If your thoughts incline ever so little towards “fuming,” you will say “fuming-furious;” if they turn, by even a hair’s breadth, towards “furious,” you will say “furious-fuming;” but if you have the rarest of gifts, a perfectly balanced mind, you will say “frumious.”

Supposing that, when Pistol uttered the well-known words — “Under which king, Bezonian? Speak or die!” — Justice Shallow had felt certain that it was either William or Richard, but had not been able to settle which, so that he could not possibly say either name before the other, can it be doubted that, rather than die, he would have gasped out “Rilchiam!”

So, not Ril - Chaim, not Rich - anything, and not Rilch - I - Am. Just a bit of Dodgson wordplay that I couldn’t stop repeating under my breath, and decided to make my screen name. And that I still haven’t gotten tired of!

Howdy Y’all! Thanks for all the bday wishes! It’s been a pretty good one. Lunch was fun and the food was nummy. The cheesecake is soooooo good! OYKW makes a mean Noo Yawk style cheesecake especially for someone who loathes cookin’ otherwise. We had it with champagne cause we are all suave, couth and sophisticated like that. It looks stormy out, so hopefully there will be a big tstorm in the near future.

The hearin’ aids are kinda cool. When I got ‘em charged up and in my ears, they beeped and a little voice said “powered on.” I felt like some kind of super hero or villain. There are online tutorials as well as an instructional booklet, so I have ways to entertain myself as I learn. I could definitely hear better, but will need to get use to them over time. There’s a six week step suggested for this. Today I wore ‘em for two hours as suggested in the quiet (at home) mode. I will do this for a week. Then it’s gradually wear ‘em for longer periods and try out the other modes (outside/windy, restaurant/store, and movie/concert) and adjust volume as needed. There are six volume levels. Today I had the left one, the ear that has more hearin’ loss, on four and the right one on two. That seemed to work.

TL;DR I tried out my new hearin’ aids and think I’m gonna like ‘em.

MOOOOOOM I think next year might be when I give myself cataract surgery. I think sump’n like a hip replacement should be a gift for a milestone bday, so maybe for the seventy-fifth one. :face_with_tongue:

Evening all. Teeth have been cleaned, flossed, polished and examined and all is well. Then exercised awhile and after the usual 2sDay Mac-n-Cheese I went down to the soccer fields for a bit but they had more coaches than players out so I came home early. Sloth will be my major duty for the remainder of the day.

red, guess I just pass that airshopw by, it’s at a small airport about 20-25 miles from me and is usually on a soccer weekend, but since you mentioned it, maybe I’ll have a look-see. And what is it with Mumpers and malfunctioning cars? As for posting, I see a couple of changes but I appear able to quote. And I hope you finally got your tax needs across to Ijit.

FCM, you’re still looking pretty good. Best wishes to FCD feeling better soon. And yeah, re-stocking after a long trip is one of the (lesser) joys of travel. And I concur, it sounds like the on-board computer is having a bad day. Don’t spend the tax refund in one place!

Rilchaim, given your name is from a Lewis Carroll work and you are female, either Alice or Snarky come to mind as possible Mumper names. Others may freely chime in.

Cookie, road construction is the bane of my travels, they are building a new roundabout near me and traffic is definitely more confused than normal. But you did get pie, so not all is lost.

Lily, good news from the Doc always makes it a great day.

Poltergeist?

VanGo, again, sounds like the computer dropped a few files. Hope it stays corrected.

Swampy, a birthday spent with good friends and good food is a blessing. And regarding the hearing aids, after about 2-3 weeks it becomes automatic and you hardly know you have them on.

And onward into the evening. Have a good one all.

Tsunami warning in effect for my area, with waves of up to 3 meters (above 10 ft).

People in areas lower than us have been ordered to evacuate. We are high enough, but our previous apartment is only 1.5 meter above sea level.

Tsunami Watch issued here, even into Puget Sound. I’m far enough away from the water to be safe. Hopefully, it all peters out.

FCM, saw the pics of the new do and color. I like the cut and I did see the auburn. It’ll lighten up for sure.

Swampy, sounds like a nice day!

Helicopters flying over. Vehicles with sirens occasionally going by. Constant announcements telling people below us to flee. It’s hard to relax.

I hope you had the best birthday ever Swampy! You deserve some spoiling

We need Star Trek teleport beams. That would allow you to spend a nice lazy afternoon watching the forest with me and get home in time to take Harriet through the car wash on the way home from school.

I used to get a week or so every two years to stare at the forest and it was never enough. It changes daily and is always beautiful and full of song.

There aren’t really a bunch of kids in WV anymore. Young folks tend to move out for greener pastures and then come home when they are comfortably retired. There are seven young ones that might be there but four of them live out of state.

Still and all, us old folks get snacky pretty often as well. And it will be hot. We will be in a church hall with the AC running but you just know that the doors will be open half the time and the AC will be struggling to keep it down to 80F.

Last year someone suggested buying a batch of ice cream cups and I think we will do that as well as buying a bunch of those expensive gourmet fruit bars. We can order them for pick up and put them in an ice chest over a layer of dry ice. If any of the littles show up, I’ll let them have some of the ice to put in juice or water for the spooky steam.

I really worry too much about carrying cold or hot food that far, I didn’t really like bring hot food to office potlucks that were only half an hour away. (I also didn’t eat at said potlucks because I didn’t trust anyone else to be as food safe as me.)

I think the sauce splits but that’s probably just me being overly judgemental.

From what you have mentioned, daughter isn’t much for cleaning either so she has different standards  At least you got clean sheets!

You paid her, that’s what really matters.

I think your hair looks nice. I’ve thought about playing with my hair color, but the lazy always rules out.

I am so happy you did that. I could tell that Hubs and Mom were isolated by their hearing loss and I could also instantly tell when they got theirs dialed in. They are going to change your world for the better, Happy Birthday!!!

Oh gosh, I love those sort of surprises. NOT, I always know that if they can’t tell me how much it will cost, it is because they don’t want to have to call 911 while I fall over clutching my heart.

Kinda like my cataracts. I didn’t know how bad they were because the loss was so gradual.

I’m old enough to not be embarrassed if I bail on something. I’m fairly sure the sniks will have been well fed before being handed around to untrained people but I’ve already handled pit vipers so won’t be up front with my hands out.

How long is she going to be with you? A month is what I remember you saying. I’d buy those things but would also expect that she would come with her preferred supplies for those days.

I hope you all have just the best time together. Do remember that she has never had a pepperoni roll in her life before. Paw-paws are coming into season, do you have a tree or neighbors with trees?

We saw so many secondary accidents on the I17 between Phx and Cordes. People just refuse to slow down when things get dicey because they left the house late.

I’d glad Sadie isn’t sitting at home alone wondering why you are still waiting for a tow truck in a different state.

Good on you! I’m so happy you are doing so well, you seemed to be not so happy last year.

Have I mentioned recently how much I love her? Do tell her that for me, please.

And humid. Don’t mow your back yard, the fireflies are almost done making whoopy and are borrowing underground right about now.

Hubs suggested unhooking your battery and letting your car sit for few minutes before hooking it back up again. He says modern cars are basically computers on wheels and all comps need a hard start once again.

I have a lot of success by reporting my own post and then highlighting the issue. Our dear BrightTree does their best, but it won’t hurt to highlight the issue.

I love it, Alice! It’s great and perfect.

Great minds and all. I like Snarky better, but Rilchiam doesn’t seem to be as rude as me.

So my day was a day. I went to PT and got told that I’ve probably got a tear in my rotator cuff. It would take an MRI to be sure but I’m really hoping that the proper stretching and resistance movements will stop any more damage.

I promised the PT folks that I would start setting a timer when I stitched (cause that’s more than likely the repetitive motion that is causing the damage) but I’m pretty good about ignoring timers when I’m focused on something, so that didn’t really help a whole lot.

They gave me some exercises to do at home and the training PT person suggested I go to Charleston for Tai-chi classes. I think I need to rearrange my room and move the TV in here so I can watch classes and have room to work out alone cause the local gym keeps promising them but never delivers.

Japanese people do seem to take such things more seriously than is done in the US. I can promise you that all of the beaches in Hawaii are filled with people holding up their cell phones.

Yeah, a tsunami is a great way to get clicks.

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and Redneck Stirfry.

True, but i still prefer beagles.

90% of tech support is “turn it off, then turn it back on again”.

They need an “ignore” mode, too.

A tsunami off of an 8.7 is no time to relax. You and Taters stay safe.

Oooo. then I could help babysit and pet assorted Mumpers pets, and show up drunk on disheveled on assorted Mumper doorsteps.

Thank you. The switch from Ozempic to Mounjaro seems to have worked.

ETA: tsunami advisory pretty much all the way up the west coast.

Because the quote function is currently a mess, I’m only going to quote your post and not try to nest red’s, too.

There are some real issues with formatting going on, particularly with respect to the quote function. There are threads in both ATMB and Site Feedback outlining the concerns if you want more information about them. The Discourse team is aware and working away. It may take some time, but I’m confident they’ll get things resolved as fast as they can.

Thanks for the update. I can’t get spoiler tags to work or see a preview.

Yes, they are aware of those, too. We’re just kind of limping along at the moment. Thanks for your patience!

There aren’t as many kids in rural Japan either. Fewer jobs and most are in the cities now.

Lots of helicopers. They fly over every 10 minutes or so and the announcement for people in lower areas to seek shelter is being constantly repeated.

Happy Cake Day!

And thanks, I know you are always here for us, it is much appreciated.

That really seems to be the problem all over.

I hope you stay dry and hope folks stay off the beaches.

Aww, thanks. Love you all!

Thank you so much, bright tree.

Wish I could do more! I won’t jinx it by saying I’m sure it will be resolved quickly.
