Back from Chicago, actually got back last evening.
After work today I worked out on the NuStep then have been trying to catch up on 65 new posts in last week’s MMP.
So, I’m commenting on a few of those before I tackle the 200 posts in this week’s MMP:
hah, now you know what we plebes have to go through.
I’m posting from under the table as I took a shot at each ‘some’.
You’re dangerously close to losing your Polish card.
To us when growing up, supper was the normal evening meal while dinner was a fancy evening meal, generally holidays, birthdays.
Took daughter and dog back to Chicago Sunday night.
On Monday I did a little WFH and walked Bella a long ways then took the opportunity to sloth. We went to a Taquiera for dinner. I had Enchiladas en Mole with steak. Oh my gosh was that good!
On Tuesday I WFH again then Bella and I went to the dog beach. Lake Michigan has not warmed up enough to actually go in so just walked along the shore then sat on the beach and read. Bella is very territorial toward me and was quite aggressive toward any dog that tried to come in for a pet.
Yesterday I took daughter to her MRI appt, dug up some mint to bring home, then made the drive home. Stopped in PawPaw to get one of the world’s best blueberry pies.
Made me snort laugh right out loud. Scared my overpriced pedigreed feline off my lap. Now there are two Mumper kitties who no longer think home is safe.
Good! More skritches to Misiu (and the rest of the pack too).
Feel better soonest shady.
Poor GG! I’ll bet he’ll be glad when you get your catio built.
TGIT! Irked, came home, picked up Nelson to go to the dog park (he was the only one on the small dog side this afternoon, but he still likes getting out off leash and checking the pee-mail), swung through Popeye’s (Nelson’s favorite guy was in the drive thru window, so’s he got his tender) and came home. I need to put away some things in the studio before starting the next round of projects (I tend to work on a rotation when not doing specific projects so I don’t get in a rut).
Ms. Dog thanks you for the compliments. That’s really not a great photo of her. Her muzzle is about the same color (black) as the rest of her fur. We were supposed to go for a walk today, but I never heard back from her person.
Yesterday was shot day, after which I walked errands, and then when I got home, my brother called. The new docs are much more hopeful about my SIL’s eye situation than the old docs in NC were, so that’s good.
Last night the stomping was the worst yet. I think the kids were also jumping off the furniture. This went on until after 11 p.m. I finally decided to go to the manager. She said she’d call them and tell them nicely that they need to quiet it down, and she’ll suggest taking them to the park. I hope this doesn’t cause friction, but I reached the end of my rope, and it’s made of Teflon.
A Belated Happy Birthday, flyboy! pilot, it’s so much fun to read casual lines like “Hi from Panama.” I like the way you can zip to a different country with little notice. I know you’re used to that from your piloting days, but now you get to do it without having to do the pre-flight checklist.
For some reason, orange gets a lot of hate. I’m like you. I find it cheerful.
That used to be my dream, but when the kids were growing up, I’d find that the ample apples we had when i made the weekly list were gone two days later, or I’d hear, “Do we have any plantains and mangos? We’re making food from Guatemala tomorrow, and that’s what I have to bring.” Luckily I like grocery shopping.
FCM, I know empathy is no help, but I know how stuck you can feel when you can’t drive.
Same! You need a fridge! Also, some states have refrigerator replacement programs for low-income folks. Worth checking into?
JtC, I’m impressed you got the inspection company to knuckle under. Would you consider running for president? Your country needs you, and I can envision billboards of you wielding your PowerCane 500 with your slogan, “What this country needs is a good spanking!”
MetalMouse, hope the Knoxville trip is smooth, fun, and not too tiring.
Sari, it sounds like Misiu is on the mend. Yay! Does he have to wear the cone of shame so he doesn’t lick off the topical antibiotic?
WetOne, glad Ursula is starting to feel better.
I recently heard about a woman who chased her cheating husband down the block with a kiddie pool folded like a taco. I mean, necessity is the mother of some very strange inventions.
You bears really do seem to eat a lot of ‘skettie’.
When I got home last night, Hubs gave me the first postcard that arrived from daughter’s trip to Italy. One thing she wrote was “I’m going to be a huge pasta snob when I get home.” Boy, am I glad I didn’t serve any pasta when she was home over the weekend.
oh, and one other thing I forgot to comment on from last week’s MMP:
Wondering if the person who thinks onions are evil is a dog. Daughter says they are toxic to dogs.
What do you plan to do in Chi-town?
BBB I admire your volunteerism! It’s so great that you are helping the female immigrants to be able to communicate in their new adopted country; a very important skill.
I love having 4 seasons!!! I’m glad you’re here to enjoy it also! Have you done any cross-country skiing? Hoffmaster would be a great place to do so…or Muskegon State Park - where they also have a luge track. I bet you’d like trying that.
He really has been very good about all of this, but the rubber band was just the last straw. At least he’s on the bed instead of under it, I can go in and give him scritches. He’ll get better.
Thank you for that. Hubs called it the House of Biscuits so I didn’t read the sign. I also didn’t know that they served samwiches, cause I was so focused on the B&G part.
The biskits were BIG and the gravy had much sausage. T’was good.
Has a sad for our silly fuzzbutts. Then laughs with you
Pellet or crushed ice. Out AZ way, when you saw a Convenience Store with a Good Ice sign you knew you could get crushed ice instead of small cubes if you wanted it. I think I remember our @dogbutler threatening to strike if the Good Ice machine at work wasn’t fixed post haste.
Wearing natural fur always helps make casual shots look like glamour shots!
A couple of years ago I went to a class about colors and how people react to it. According to that teacher, orange is associated with working class people because it is Home Dept colors.
I don’t hate orange, I just like other colors better. Peach is wonderful, pink is not. I’m very picky.
A generational nesting site is hard to ignore! I am polite but persistent AND I am retired so I have lots of free time to complain.
Honestly…the inspection company folks seemed pretty upset over everything. They have a reputation to protect and didn’t want me to tell our realtor about the mistakes. I have the feeling I cost a drinkin’ man his job, but that’s not really my problem.
I once read a story about someone who was watching the elections and suddenly jumped up and started running away. There were many exciting descriptions of him trying to escape, but he was finally caught and forced to be President. The reasoning was that people who wanted the job were just in it for the rewards, the people who ran away knew how much responsibility they would be taking on and wanted nothing to do with it.
There is a pizza place downtown that makes baked skettie. Imma gonna have some of that next time I feel like eating out.
So much for losing weight. I was going to a womens group at my church and a friend on the bus asked me to go to the dinner for the homeless. Ok. Then I get home, go to my church where they have wraps, sliders and fruit.
Then there was tent revival nearby. So I went, saw my neighbor who doesn’t want God, but shes there cause theres a raffle and they’re giving away gift cards. She didn’t win.
They then gave out a meal afterwards so miss tubby here!
Sad she sits through preaching in hopes of getting money. She wants to cut her long hair but instead of giving it to locks of love, she wants to find someone to pay her for it.
Evening all. Made it over to the soccer fields, due to bad planning on my part it’s a 20-mile drive to the other side of Knoxville, took about 30 minutes going due to traffic and 20 minutes return since I could maintain freeway speed. Refereed for about 90 minutes, this was some preliminary playing, the real tournament starts tomorrow. I have three games scheduled and unlike other tournaments in the past, the referee slots are pretty much filled up, so that looks like all the work for Friday. Temperatures are due to reach 90F so need to stay hydrated.
Cookie, I have my insurance via the US Government (carryover from work) and I know I am not paying that much. Never occurred to me it was that expensive.
Pilot, welcome home, will await your next adventure (be it travel or BB).
I am suitably damned impressed.
JtC, poor GG, life is just not treating him fairly (at least in GG’s opinion). Once things settle down he’ll be ok (I hope). And the house builder’s story was a nice laugh after a tiring day. And yea! for the refrigerator.
nellie, patience is a virtue, but 11PM is ridiculous. Hope the manager got through to them.
Still haven’t decided yet, Museum of Science and Industry, Natural History Museum, maybe Lincoln Park Zoo…kinda up in the air right now.
OK, tired and with the added hour in the East, it’s getting close to 10pm, so I need to organize for tomorrow and get some shuteye. Take care all.
well this what ever it is hasn’t killed me yet but my aunt just might and yeah its my fault …
ok remember last years moving saga? well when I electronically signed the lease i just skimmed it and no one else mentioned it but apparently we were supposed to have renters insurance …I didn’t know this until the reality lady mentioned it today before i signed the lease … so we paid an unexpected 165 for the year …
Mitch Hedberg had a bit about getting into an argument while camping in a tent.
“What are you gonna do, slam the … flap?”
They’re brownies; I’m sure they’ll be at least edible.
That’s heartwarming.
You’re gonna lurve autumn.
I know you’re all about the lush emerald green - who wouldn’t be, after desert life - but as observant as you are, you are in for a treat as the seasons progress.
Oh, bless his sweet little heart.
Seemed to capture her happy spirit, though … I can see why you’re fond of her!
That’s actually why The Behemoth is sitting in the driveway instead of being hauled all the way off. The electric co. has a rebate program, to incentivize replacing older appliances with more energy efficient models, so they are supposed to take it off for recycling in a cpl weeks for a modest rebate check.
The whole problem was that the electric co. folks aren’t authorized to do, well, light demolition work. Which is what was required to yeet this thing outta the house in the 1st place.
Ya make do with what ya got at hand.
We had that at Dickey’s. During summer months, plenty of people came through just for cupfuls of our ice.
One lady would come every few days, for four (4) big cups of ice. That was all she wanted.
Sonic has “good ice,” too.
Ran the ovens a bunch tonight, until my hands, wrists, and shoulder physically crapped out on me.
Caught a short break, then went back for more.
I did pretty good - okay, one pizza got totally away from me & had to be re-made (e.g. burned it … really not that badly - it disappeared pretty quickly off the break table, thankyouverymuch) but considering I rarely get oven practice anymore, I was pretty pleased with myself & overall performance.
Didn’t burn myself, but the tiny little muscles & tendons around my thumb joint are feelin’ it now.
What happened was, Car(e)less Co-worker was supposed to take over the ovens to give whoever was running them a break, but he was having a Very Bad Day (it was obvs. he was upset about something personal) and he just … noped the fuck outta that nonsense.
So I just … grabbed a glove & sword, and got to it.
One of the other guys was like, “Are you sure, shoe?” (b.c. the ovens were FULL and they know I don’t usually handle that many pizzas at once) but I just felt like, “Well, somebody’s gotta do it; might as well be me” and other than checking in with me once in a while, to make sure I was still on top of things, everyone gave me space to do my thang and get some practice in.
… stopped for a TV dinner on my way home, though, cuz no way in fucking hell I’m cooking anything more involved than poking a few buttons and fishing out a plastic fork.
My monthly premium for my BC/BS dental insurance is $49.00 more or less. It is an add on to my Medicare BC/BS supplemental, the monthly cost of which gives me the vapors. After a few nasty surprises following root canals I stopped thinking about it as insurance and realized that is more of a forced savings plan. It pays for two cleanings a year, with no co-pay, which is $500 dollars right there. As long as I get at least $100 of a filling paid for during the year, we’re even. I have so much more needed work done that I always get more covered than my annual $600 in premiums. Not a lot, mind you, but every couple years they pay for 80% of a crown.
I know that reality lady was an autocorrect snafu but it ended up being pretty on point. Reality like that is unpleasant when it’s unexpected.
The in-house name for the metal spatulas we use to wrangle pizzas. About a foot anna half long (thin, flexible steel) with a notch on each side to “grab” the edge of a hot pan, attached to another approx. 3/4 foot handle.
As with everything else used daily by semi-professionals, we’ve got our favorites. There’s a few I simply refuse to use, and will stomp cheerfully back to the kitchen to retrieve a “better” one from the drawer.
ETA looked online but probably am not using the right search terms.
Will try to remember to grab a pic for those who might be interested and/or ask S.M. what item name they’re under for inventory/re-order.
