I’m in Illinois and have never heard a green pepper called a mango.
What?! You don’t share salmon with Spot?
By the time that real mangos arrived at most grocery stores in the midwest, most folks were calling the other bell peppers.
House is cleaneded, laundry done, tag sticker paid for and applied, groceries bought and supper et. It was just too stinkin’ hot to take Nelson to the dog park today (97F), so we’re chilling indoors under the AC. Once it cools a bit later, I may take a glass of tea, the tablet and Nelson out to the patio for fresh air. I hope the skeeters aren’t too bad.
Tomorrow, I need to harvest some sweet basil and some peppermint. That calls for caprese salad for tomorrow night’s supper, since I bought some fresh mozzarella today.
And lived to tell about it!!!
Daughter and the kids were gone by 6 - aaaaaah, blissful silence!! I’ve got the dishwasher running, and when it’s done, I’ll have a shower and get into bed. I’s tahred!!!
An RV caught fire a mile south of the Junction and it set the bone dry field on fire. The I17 is closed and helicopters are dropping water on the fire. As there is only one way in and out of the Junction, the folks with breathing issues can’t get away from the smoke.
With the exception of the last minute items, the house is packed. The movers and pods will be there Monday. The housekeeper will be over to do a good cleaning on Tuesday and the realtor’s camera guy will take the pics on Wednesday. Hubs will be leaving to come home Wednesday morning and our house should be listed this weekend.
Our furniture will be delivered on the third and we will visit the local pound on the fifth.
It’s all coming together
Evening all. It was a long day, up about 6am, out to the field about 8:15am and didn’t leave for the hotel until 3:30pm…did I mention it was 94F? Pretty well-cooked by the time I got inside and took a hour-long nap, then finally went out and browsed around trying to find a place to eat that appealed to me (why I was being fussy I do not know). Finally ended up at 5 Guys because damn the calories and fat, full speed ahead! Just got back to find my morning game has been cancelled, so I signed up for another afternoon game, so I have the day off until 1pm or so. May use it to visit the Knoxville Zoo, it’s close to the soccer park and any zoo can kill 2-3 hours with me. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow on awakening.
Now to wade through the mass of postings…52 as I start this…
Wheelie, boo fae, have heard about that Chicago tour from others, will look into it. And stay well.
shoe, sounds like you are getting a good exercise regime at the ovens and getting paid for it…double win!
BBBoo, I may have to look at my records and see how much they are taking out for dental every month. Might not be worth it…
nellie, keep records of the noise (heck, can you record it) and keep the manager notified (politely of course)…and I see from further postings that you are doing so; good luck.
Good luck with the washer, Sticky Buns.
FCM, sounds like you’re making up for MIL time this week, which is good for your mental state, hope FCD can get some time after his Mom passes on. He’ll need it then. Hope new phone is a winner.
rocky, thanks for the winken and nod story, it made a tired old bald guy smile.
talkie, good on overly girl for not getting overly tied to a sport that is no longer fun for her.
Taters, I was thinking I had a busy day until I read what you did. Whew!
Didn’t have coaches or parents screaming at me, so I’ll call that a win.
Pilot, quite a story; I expect some of the folks complained about the flight being delayed by a simple matter of just carting the body off…
doggio, I’m never quite sure I understand what going on in your work stories, but I sure do enjoy them.
Since I eat neither mangoes or peppers, I have no comment.
Hippo Birdie to you, Coppertone
JtC, haven’t had to parallel park in I don’t know how long. Hope it all comes back to you. And you mentioning sitting watching the river made me start humming “Old Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers. And glad the old house didn’t burn down.
red, enjoy the salad.
And I just realized that the new Razor I bought at Kroger (remembered to pack my spare blades but forgot the razor) is still in the car, so I need to re-garb and go out and get them. That should be a signal to stop and get ready for bed. Take care all.
This isn’t a given at this point in time. The Lakes just got the Set warning. How anyone is supposed to Go! when there is no way out is anyone’s guess.
Hubs and I went to every single planning meeting decades ago when they were planning the interchange. The one thing all of the residents asked for was TWO ways in and out. Every meeting ended with the planners assuring the residents that they had been heard and that there would be two ways in and out. Lying fucks.
I don’t care about the house. It is insured for market value. I don’t care about the stuff. It is insured and can be replaced. I care about the man inside of the house who can’t be replaced.
The slurry bombers seem to have managed to get the fire under control. They are still at Set but hubs says all of the smoke he can see is black now. He says it doesn’t stink too much inside and has promised to hose all of the plants and trees off tomorrow. Falling ash can suffocate plants.
Hooray for the crisis subsiding!
The Junction: delivering one last giant FU!!! as you both head off for greener pastures.
Glad it seems you’ve dodged that one.
Mrs. L.A. had a tuna-and-egg-salad-w/tarragon on sourdough sandwich, and the last Trader Joe’s kosher dill pickle spear (from the refrigerated section) for dinner. I had leftover pot roast, carrots, and mushrooms. For dessert, I had a tin of anchovies. Yum.
Thanks. If not for Hubs being trapped there, I wouldn’t have cared if it had all burned to the ground. It would have been a PITA to deal with the insurance and all, but nothing insurmountable.
My evening at home was quiet; I’m missing BB as she works through her family crisis. Wish I could add a hug in person to the supportive words over the phone.
Anyhow, walked to Biergarten for late dinner & live music. Reuben on dark rye w German kraut and an Erdinger Dunkel. Now enjoying an Angel’s Envy bourbon on a big rock and a stogie at Strikes nearby. Toddling home and to bed is next. Meanwhile it’s a warm dry cozy evening outdoors.
I napped. Spot sneezed on my head. I’m having an Aviation, salad, rice, and baked salmon for dinner. I need to inflate my Stanley cup, since the Panthers are up 3-0 in the series. Also, bit of a plot twist on Doctor Who
He’s weird about people food. He’s also weird about dry, flavorless bits.
Happy Friday!
Happy Birthday Coppertone
I’s tired.
I was hoping my son didn’t have to irk tonight, but he does. He was loopy this morning, the tired is catching up with him. If he works the full night, it’ll be a 60-hour week. That will make for a nice paycheck.
A few people walked off the job the other night and there were equipment failures last night.
I saw Lily mom this morning. Usually, she stops to talk and gives Echo some loving, but she was rushing to get into the office. I’m sure she had a mess on her hands.
I saw some dog park friends when we dropped off Echo and Rayleigh at daycare.
Jackson was there and Echo went berserk because she and Jackson do not get along.
Nelson was there, but she ignored him. They got along okay, but he is a bit prickly and he and Echo have had words.
I think the daycare should give me some free days. I have told so many people about them, and have gotten them quite a few clients.
JtC, the last time I drove on WV I spent half the drive apologizing to the people behind me. The natives drive like it’s a speedway. My father drove like a native and it’s no wonder I got carsick all the time. It was like being on a roller coaster for hours.
Once my mother was driving up to Aunt Teeny’s, and she got half way around a turn and all she could see was sky. My other aunt had to get out and guide her around the turn. It was a dirt road with a rock wall on one side and a sheer drop-off on the other, and of course there was no guardrail.
I’m happy for you that your house didn’t burn down and your hubby is safe.
And that all is coming together.
The deer around here are everywhere.
I hate when there are some on both sides of the road because you have no idea which way they are going to run.
There are some other birds out by the road lately, I think they may be wild turkeys.
I should know what they are.
The geese are a mess too. The babies like to lay in the road.
I saw, what I am pretty sure was an eagle, swoop down to get a goose and try to carry it off.
Sticky, the last time I checked out pet insurance, I’m pretty sure it didn’t cover anything routine. If I had to get it for all three dogs, that would be $195/month. Too much money for me, I think.
One of my co-workers made me feel really disrespected, to the point where I was nearly in tears - ** S.M.** told me not to let her get under my skin, and I was like, “Too late!” - and another one gave away a pizza for free at the very end of the night, knowing exactly which customer it was for, without any decent explanation (S.M. had already left for the night; someone else was in charge) and I am just so fucking done with tonight right now.
I know I owe some of y’all a more detailed response, but I just cannot right now.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday, so I just have to survive the insanity at work.
JtC, people in eastern Kentucky drive the same way. Something about Appalachia makes people drive like lemmings near a cliff.
For a second I thought that was red’s Nelson: “Imma gonna bite you in the face! As soon as Mom brings me a stepladder.”

I had an aunt who lived in Wheeling. Their lot (or an adjacent one - I don’t recall) was high with a big looping curve around it so it was impossible to see oncoming traffic. I remember visiting her as a kid and hearing cars honking all the time - AuntR said they were warning cars around the bend that they were there. Why slow down and drive carefully when you can toot and zoom along?? smh
Weird night last night. It was supposed to drop into the 60s and we were promised rain. By 10:30-ish, still no rain, and it was 82° in the house. I was lying in bed with my tablet, ceiling fan going, having had a cool shower, and I was still sweating, so I had to get up, close the house, and turn on the air. Dammit. But the sweating stopped, so there’s that.
And of course, once I was comfy and on the verge of sleep, Ziva jumped up on the bed, then climbed on me, demanding skritches. I wasn’t in the mood, and I had to push her away 3 times before she got the message. Then, at last, I fell asleep - not sure what time it was, tho I know it was after 11. I managed to get about 6 hours of sleep, all told.
Busy day planned today. I need to scrub the greasy shop-vac and some greasy buckets. I want to clean the family room carpet and the area rug in the living room. I also need to clean the dining room carpet, but I’m thinking I’ll just do the traffic area there - I’m not up to moving the table myself. I also need to run the sprinkler for my veggies since the rain never materialized, dammit.
That’s the plan. We’ll see what actually gets done. Onward!
Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. JDD and Partner are comin’ over later this mornin’ to hang at the cee-mint pond. Much silliness shall ensue. We have sammich makin’s, chips, onion dip, and guacamole to munch upon when the need to feed hits. 'Twill be a nice chill day.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Morning all. Up and more or less awake, need to shave and wash up, then get some free breakfast before heading out. Probably will go to the zoo this morning and then referee at 2:15 and 4:30pm, so that should take care of the day. Another hot one in Knoxville, 94F predicted, so sweat is on the agenda. Do two more games tomorrow morning and then head back home on Father’s Day.
Have read all but not comprehending much, so take good care of yourselves and I’ll try to catch up later.

That’s Peak White People Food lingo.
[/quote]
Huh. I am a White person who is well acquainted with food.
Thanks for the info!
So are mangoes, but neither seems quite worth all of the hype…
Ok, I have been up since about 4 or so. I have worked for a bit, did some dishes, I’m working on some laundry, and now I’m sitting here in the peace and quiet of the kitchen with my lovely poodle girl sitting quietly next to me on the table.
I’ve been trying to work on our monthly budget, but it’s always more challenging than I hope it will be. Even since I started using Simplifi it still finds ways to confound me. But, let’s face it, the thing that I’m putting off is having the conversation with my mother and MusicMan about how we all need to work to get along a little better. I talked to my therapist about it and she gave me suggestions, but I’m a big chicken. I will get it done, and hopefully today, but… maybe a little later.
Well, I guess I’ll get back to some more paid task avoidance until I grow some more courage.
