(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the afternoon. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I again have verger duty. It’s Trinity Sunday for those keepin’ score. There will be incense cause apparently BP will use any excuse to have incense. The man loves him some pomp! It’s also Fathers Day. We’ll head back to da cave afterward for sammiches and nappage. There will be a big Sunday dinner of ham steak, collard greens, mac ‘n cheese, squishes, field peas with snaps and cornbread muffins. Since tomorrow is men’s night, this will give us leftovers for Tuesday.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Fathers Day to all the Mumper dads of humans and critters!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon race watching are on tap. It’s 75 degrees Ferret Height(23.p Centipedes), cloudy and humid. Afternoon Tstorms are on tap.

Happy Fathers Day!

Got me some good sleepage, and I’m sure the No Kings event helped, as did treading the mill. FCD and I have been going downstairs together - he uses the bike and I’m on the treadmill. We watch a program that runs about 45 minutes, so we do about 35 minutes of cardio, then cool down watching the last 10 minutes or so. We’ll see if it continues on the cruise…

No plans for today, yet. Forecast is for showers and t-boomers, so not an ideal day for venturing forth. I looked up the movies playing locally - ugh. I can’t recall the last time there was a movie in the theaters that I wanted to see. They all sound so stupid, and I can’t stand the ones based on comic book characters. Even the theater farther away has nothing appealing - mostly the same stuff playing locally. Alas.

So I suppose a nothing day ahead. Definitely not an eat-out day. I know Father’s day isn’t as stoopit crowded as Mother’s day, but I expect most restaurants will be busy anyway.

Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s day as applies!

Morning all. Up early, need to do a few things before heading out to work on my last two soccer games of the tournament (will have done 8 games total this weekend, so a good workout). Then change for dinner at Longhorn and do the packing for my trip (finally made my list out last night and arranged an Uber pickup). Was going to mow but unless the rain forbears I’ll come home to a jungle I am afraid. At least the soccer games should be dry (crosses fingers)

Pilot, sounds like life remains…interesting.

In other words, he can sow his wild oats but does not have to pray for crop failure…

J-Bats, I have to admit, when I first read the words ‘mouse balls’, my first thought was not the one on my desk…

And time to get organized and start off a busy morning. Take care all.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “I don’t really have anything fucking significant to tell you right now. It’s like I fucking forgot what I was going to say.” Fair enough, keep quiet then!

The usual - single, double, queen and king  A lot of hotels have moved to king- or queen-size beds now, but some of the smaller boutique hotels still stick to the standard double size because of space. Normally the room descriptor will give you an indication of the bed size and will tell you if it’s a king or queen room, otherwise I’m afraid it will be standard double size (4’ 6"/135cm wide).

I hope you enjoyed the food, you deserve a treat after putting in all that work!

You are such a good person, the world needs more people like you  I also hate to see food go to waste, which means I am always conscious of my grocery shopping so I am not buying things I don’t need or won’t use. I plan meals for the week, especially since I’m only cooking for myself for four days out of seven, so I know that stuff not going to be wasted.

Pilot The mango mojito sounds like it would be nice, I’m very fond of mangoes and am looking forward to scoffing the little tub of sliced mango that’s sitting in my fridge.

Yesterday was busy but fun - went to the gym in the morning, came home for a cuppa and shower, then we went out for lunch at Jack’s Café because I needed to go to the pet store on the retail park, and Jack’s is conveniently across the street from there. Had yummy chicken curry and chapatis, then went to get cat litter, food for Muffin, and some dry, flavourless bits that are supposed to help with hairballs.

After that, I went to the big supermarket for petrol, and we went into the store for some essentials, and then back home. Had a cuppa and decided as it was a nice afternoon (and the idiot neighbour across the road was blasting out some awful music) it would be a good idea to do some day-drinking. We considered our options, and got an Uber into town as our starting point. We sat in the Posada’s secret courtyard before moving on to the Lych Gate which also has a nice outside space, then decided to call in at the Giffard.

We had thought to walk back towards home via the Clarendon and then the Turkish Delight pizza place but instead, we phoned in an order to the pizza place near home (Papa’s Pizza), and got an Uber back that way. 'im indoors got out at the pizza place to pick up our order, and the cab dropped me outside our house so by the time he got back with food, I’d fed the cats and made us a cup of tea.

No big plans for today, apart from looking through pics of yesterday’s big parade where I will sniggering at the lack of attendance, and grinning at the massive numbers of people at the No Kings protests.

Happy Father’s day!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and will do a bit more internettin’ before KP and calling Dad.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Off to church. Right after service there is a cookout!

Happy Father’s Day!

Lunch with my “nephew” and his GF was great: I genuinely like them as people, and it was really nice to get to spend some quality time with them. They were super appreciative of the chunk-o-cash, and told me that now they won’t have to sleep on an air mattress until GF’s sign-on bonus/first paycheck arrives. I had no idea, but am so happy about that: not only do I want them to be comfortable, but GF needs to sleep in a real bed so she’s well-rested for her first job! There’s a big mall across the street from the restaurant: after we ate they told me they were planning to go check out the grand reopening of the Barnes & Noble, and asked if I wanted to go. I did. But I didn’t want baked goods sitting in a hot car, so I skipped the restaurant-adjacent bakery and figured I’d stop in on my way back home (I’d have to pass it). OMG there was so much traffic – just getting across the street and around the mall took forever – and the mall itself was packed! I only go there once or twice a year; usually for clothes, and I only go to 2-3 stores that are all near each other. I hadn’t walked around the place on a Saturday afternoon in quite some time, and I won’t again any time soon…wow was it crowded.

Anyway, it turned out the B&N doesn’t actually open until Wednesday…but we salvaged the trip by visiting the Lego store. I bought them each an inexpensive set, and got the Disney Pixar Luxo Jr. set for myself. I’d been thinking I might take advantage of being at the mall and do some shopping at my clothing go-tos, then pop down the road to the next traffic light and go to PetSmart, but by the time we got out of the Lego store I decided there were too many people and cars and everything for my taste. I skipped clothes and PetSmart and the bakery – again – and went straight home.

The Luxo Jr. set doesn’t have many pieces, and was a quick build:

It’s really cute (less than 12" tall), and includes some fun easter eggs. I’m generally not inclined to display Lego at work, but I might actually put this one on my desk. Partly because there isn’t really anywhere in my house it can go. :joy:

It’s overcast and rainy and a little humid despite recent storms and the current temp of just 65°F, but I really do need Bailey food and PetSmart is my best bet for the stuff she’s willing to eat right now (and I waited too long to order from Chewy). It’s all of 2 miles away, and on the way back I can top off my gas tank and maybe finally go to that bakery. So, I think I’ll get my butt in gear soon and head out before the lunchtime crowd hits.

Thanks! Not only do I feel like a unicorn demographically, but yeah: I’m an agnostic left-leaning centrist who doesn’t really drink, isn’t anti-men/romance (despite being quite single), and loves kids (despite being childless), and it seems like at least one of those traits is contrary to most groups and activities I’m finding. This is encouraging, though; I’ll keep looking.

This nearly made me spit out my Gatorade Zero…what in the world makes you think pilot is limiting himself to post-menopausal women? :joy:

Mornin’ all - 'Tis a bit after 10am as I start driveling. Awoke about 730, so almost an hour post-sunrise. Must’ve stayed up too late last night.

Took a quick nap outside on the balcony in the blazing sun & warmth, then got sheveled and headed out to breakfast at a French-style cafe. They opened just as I got there, and the choice was sit inside in a place where the air conditioner had been blasting overnight & you could hang meat in there, or sit outside in the blazing sun. I chose sun. After a few minutes the sun had moved enough to create some shade from trees and buildings and that was better. Enjoyed a shakshuka and more fresh-baked brioche than my pancreas would have preferred.

GF is not yet answering her morning texts, so I expect her night ran even later than mine. Beyond that, a day of high RDOS awaits. I’m still mentally milling about on traveling or staying around here.

Cheers all and happy Fathers Day to those in the club!!

I use meet up for walking and writing groups in my community. I’ve known people to have some success meeting potential partners with meet up discussion groups, for what it’s worth.

My father died some years ago, but I have called my mother’s husband to wish him happy Father’s Day. He liked the gifts my lovely wife and I sent him, including a mug from Hobbiton in New Zealand and a donation to a charity that he regularly supports.

Had a good visit with eldest son and his family yesterday. His youngest son, who is about 12, was in town to audition on French horn for the St. Paul youth symphony orchestra. The kid also plays sax and is taking piano lessons.

Today will be quiet. We’re still in a bit of shock about the assassinations that took place not far from here yesterday. They still haven’t caught the SOB, but at least they know who he is and his photo is everywhere. Whatever the faults of the FBI might be, they’re very good at hunting people down, so here’s hoping they catch the fucker soon. Hopefully, he won’t sneak across the border into Canada, but I’m betting that’s his plan.

My girls took me to Texas Roadhouse for lunch today. It was packed solid and a line out the door. We had a family in the next booth. It looked like the Dad, a son and his wife and a second son. They were having a very nasty argument. The crowded restaurant was pretty loud so we could not hear any details but the F-Bombs were flying loud and fast.

Life is too short…

Remember once upon a time when movie matinee prices were a buck or two? Today we paid $9 each, plus a 54¢ fee for using the credit card. Guess there’s no such thing as a cheapie matinee.

We went to see The Unholy Trinity - lots of shooting, but not overly gory. I’m easily grossed out by splattering brains and such, but this didn’t go much farther than red splotches on shirts. It was pretty good - it took till the very end to figure out who the good guys and bad guys were. And I’m glad I took a hoodie with me - it was a tad cool in the theater.

Back home, trying to decide what to do for supper. FCD said he doesn’t want anything, which means he’ll have some cereal later. It’s still early, but I’s hongree, so I’ll forage for leftovers shortly.

I opened a window treatment store in Richmond because Virginia is for louvers.

I cleaned, I did a load of towels, I took out the trash. Spot has napped in various places.

I like it

Happy Fathers Day, I hope it is an enjoyable one.

It’s been a crazy busy couple of weeks here but got my sister successfully married off! :tada: I told the groom no take-backs  But seriously, it is a bit of a relief to know that she’s officially got someone in her corner and it’s one less person that will rely on me for help first. And health insurance - she is self-employed, so also getting that is huge.

And speaking of my newly minted BIL, he is (well, we both are) getting quite the treat tomorrow evening. The company I work for has a suite at the arena and I was able to get two tickets to Game 5 of the Thunder vs Pacers NBA Finals! Things will be loud and rowdy and I expect the crowd will be on its feet just about the entire time. I will probably take Tuesday off - I’m too old to stay out until midnight and still be able to roll into the office at 7am :joy:

Happy Father’s Day to all!

It has been raining on and off all day and there was flooding up north. People dead sort of flooding, not just a couple of bridges washing out :frowning:

I’ve been very lazy today, but I have an excuse. I’m back on the no lifting, no bending restrictions again. I’ve only now noticed how icky our bathroom baseboards look, new paint will be happening this year.

We have 12ft ceilings here, with the exception of taping we can do everything from the floor. Or we can pay someone else to do it, but if I do it, I can work wall by wall and we won’t have to move the furniture out of the rooms. That’s how I did it last time I painted, but I was also thirty years younger. Hmmmm.

They got his wife who was holding the passports and cash. Here’s hoping that put a serious damper on his plans.

Excellent point! We all know what happens when we assume, right!

That is one of my many peeves. 'merikans love plastic packaging. It is often less expensive to buy a five lb bag of taters than it is to buy the same poundage individually. That happened during the plague years and never went back. I can buy some things individually at the produce store or the roadside stands, but that’s limited by what is grown locally. If I want tangerines, I have to buy a five lb bag.

So, it really is very self serving to give my extra food to someone less fortunate. I don’t have to get upset over throwing it in the garbage, we don’t have to pay to have it hauled away and her child gets more fresh food in her diet.

Once I got Walking Lady in the habit of thinking that we are buying extra because it is cheaper, it was easy enough to tell her that I bought too many roasting chickens because of packaging. She’s never been in Aldi’s (no car) and I’ve gotten really good at lying about that sort of thing.

The squeaky tank makes me laugh every time I see/hear it.

Oh, that sounds like a great time for both of you. I’ve seen pics of the suites and wow, some of them are soooo lux!

About 5 years ago, we hired painters to do the interior of the entire upstairs. Over the years, I’ve noticed that they did a less-than-quality job. And this was an actual business recommended by a realtor, not some guy with some cans of paint in his pickup. I’m thinking I want to re-do it myself as I’d done when we moved in here, one room at a time at my leisure. We’ll see how I feel after vacation.

CVS has filled the order for my seizure meds. I’ll go over tomorrow morning to pick them up, after ascertaining it’s more than a 30 day supply. Not saying I don’t trust the doctor, but I don’t know how many hands the note went thru before getting to her. So while I still have time to correct it…

Next week, FCD has to go talk to them about one of his meds - the refill date is 2 days after we leave, so he needs to get them to do insurance magic. And speaking of meds, it’s recommended that we take our meds in their original containers in our carry-on. That’s a bit more crap than I’d planned on. So I’ll put my non-prescription stuff in baggies in my checked luggage - it won’t be a huge deal if that bag gets lost :scream: but the other 3 meds need to be close. Always something.

I’m itching to start packing the big bag, but 10 days is still a tad too soon. Still, I can gather some items and get them ready. I’m ready to be gone!

Afternoon all. Fairly busy day, did my refereeing early then came home, changed and went to eat a Longhorn Steakhouse, then stopped at Wal-Mart for a carry-on bag for tomorrow and gassed up my car to use my Kroger Gas points, and then since the predicted rain never showed up, got the lawn mowed and a load of last-minute laundry done. Am catching my breath now before doing the grand packing for my trip, have checked in for my flight(s) to New York, will be later this evening before I can do so for the London leg. Any rain we’re going to have won’t show up until 8pm or so. Weather report for tomorrow says cloudy but no rain at any of the places I’m flying out of.

Oopsie, sounds like you had a good day out, except for the crowds.

Cookie, best of luck to the young musician.

Hippie, regarding your Roadhouse neighbors.not exactly the Father’s Day one would conceive of…

FCM, I agree that tickets are more expensive these days, and the concessions…

52, glad your sister is hitched and you can play in-law now. And enjoy the game, would love to see something like that one of these days.

JtC, I try to do things as needed,. like apples, bananas and tomatoes, probably will have to toss some lettuce out but used about 80% of it so not too bad.

And the bag won’t pack itself, so guess I need to get started on it.

That is just one of the things I hate about Aldi produce. Rarely is it available by the piece. The other is that it isn’t often quality produce. I do like their cheese selection though.

There may be legal issues if it’s a Schedule II scrip.

Talked to Dad for about an hour, then packed Nelson up for a dog park trip, where he got to hang out with a sweet Shih Tzu and his dachshund buddy, Gunter. A good time was had by all.

I had 2 hamburgers and I am stuffed 3 hours later.
I may skip supper tonight.
Job interview tomorrow, not getting my hopes up.
